During this time, there were two executive directors who came and went. The more recent one lasted over 2.5 years. She was a pathological liar who stopped showing up to work on a regular basis about half way into her tenure. Everybody she hired was either related to her or a friend of hers, so there was no accountability. Residents were regularly neglected, physically as well as emotionally. I informed her boss about it in January '24, and her boss' boss (!) in October '24, but she lasted all the way through December '24. In between January '24 and October '24, when my mom left, there were numerous phone calls, Zoom meetings, and in person meetings with the Executive director's boss and other concerned family members. We were always promised that things will improve, but they never did. It's worth noting that the place is particularly awful for wheelchair bound residents, as I found out during my mom's last 5 weeks there. Nobody ever wheels them around the beautiful garden, as grossly misrepresented in the video on the main page of the Summerfield website. If they're lucky, they will be taken to the activity room, but often they are just left behind. Many families hire a private caregiver for their loved ones in Summerfield, but even those have all left in disgust. As the saying goes, "a fish rots from the head down". ALSO, VERY IMPORTANT IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING PLACING YOUR LOVED ONE IN SUMMERFIELD: Be aware that many of the reviews are written by Summerfield Employees and folks who just came in for a visit.

She has been here since August of 2023 and our family has been very pleased with her care. The facility is relatively small, secure (locking gates and door to public areas), and I am not worried at all about Mom wandering out. The staff is very loving, caring, and attentive to mom's needs. I've also had the pleasure to dine with her several times and the food is always very very good! The facilities are clean and well maintained, and there is a lovely activities room and backyard/patio area. I can't say enough about how kind and accommodating the staff and management have been. I have an uncle who spent a lot of time with her daily, into the evenings, and he also raved about how wonderful my mom is cared for. As her care and medical needs have increased, we recently brought in hospice. They also commented on how much the med tech knows about my mom, and were impressed. Hospice and Summerfield are now working together to make the rest of mom's days as comfortable as possible. Is it perfect? No assisted living facility is ever perfect. But when there are issues (room needs cleaning, for example) it has always been addressed quickly. The staff is prompt at calling me when there is an issue with mom. The med techs and caregivers usually know off the top of their heads, what kind of day my mom is having. If there's been a shift change, whomever I ask always looks up the med tech notes and lets me know how she's been that day. We have many family members visit Mom, and they are always welcomed and never rushed out or made to feel obtrusive or in the way. In fact, lots of love and visits are strongly encouraged, and the staff is always so accommodating! There are many different types of facilities in San Diego area, and I recommend that Summerfield be on your list to check out if you have the need for memory care assisted living for a loved one. They are very competitively priced, and with the wonderful care, good food, activities, and kind people, this place is definitely worth a look.

We found impressive buildings surrounded by gorgeous landscapes with multiple types of flowers, shrubs and trees all perfectly maintained. The interior of the structures were equally impressive, decorated with high quality furniture, lovely artwork and interesting artifacts everywhere. The use of water features, (bridges over streams, babbling brooks, coy ponds and fountains), created welcoming areas that made one want to sit and stay awhile. All of the staff members we encountered were friendly and kind. One that stood out among the rest was Seth Limon-Residency Counselor. He was extremely professional, knowledgeable, organized, personal and had a great sense of humor! Seth had prepared and excellent presentation for us that gave us a sense that we truly knew all that The Glen had to offer. All four of us visited and toured several facilities both in Northern and Southern CA. We wanted to find a place for dad that we felt comfortable live in ourselves. Dad had been living in Northern CA for most of his life, so when my husband and I visited Cloisters (several times), and had met with Tia and other staff members, we felt that it would be the best fit for him, it was still a big leap of faith as it was major move for dad at such an advanced age. Now it has been 3+months and dad has fully adjusted to the facility, met new friends and very much enjoying his new home. Always greeting you with warm smile, Tia is the driving force that keeps everything going the right direction, but each and every person that we have had the pleasure of meeting so far have been caring, attentive and a joy to know. We usually visit dad twice a day every day, so we don't miss much. We would like to specially recognize Marlene who has been exceptionally careful when she is showering dad who had a foot surgery recently. Just last week we celebrated dad's 98th birthday with a cake for everyone at Cloisters. My favorite aspect of the facility is that every room has a view, and most rooms have a private patio access to an immaculately maintain garden brimming with roses, cannas, bougainvillea, many shady trees, hummingbirds and butterflies and many pollinators flitting about, that would cheer up the gloomiest of moods. This is my second review. It has been 6 months since my…read moresister has been a resident here. I'm there everyday from 2:45 to 7:00pm. I had to buy a new mattress because the old one was severely stained. When replacing the mattress I saw that the frame was infested with spiders. I cleaned and eliminated all the spiders. Out side of my sisters room is an area with an umbrella and some chairs. The cushions are worn and weathered. The old mattress with others are leaning against the outside walls of the other residence. Not a pretty sight. They are covered with blue tarps. There is a Hugh lack of communication when you don't understand the aids who (some only speak Spanish). Some do speak English. I've used my translator app to translate this to them. Doesn't work apparently when this happens day in and day out. My sister becomes very upset when she isn't able to communicate same as anyone who you depend on for your support. I've hired two full time caregivers and I'm there 28 hours a week. So my review has accurate information. If no one is at the front desk to let you enter or exit you have to wait until someone comes. Last night my caregiver waited ten minutes before she entered the facility. You need a code to unlock the doors. The understaffing (3) employees to serve the needs of 39 residents give or take 2 or three is an impossible task. My sister developed a rash on her chest from a lack of showers. One of My caregivers noticed this and it is being taken care of by them. The towels that are used are worn out and should be replaced. From holes to torn ends. I always have to ask for them because they don't replace them after my sister has showered. The dinner meals are pasta based. Some fish with overcooked vegetables. And a scoop of white rice. Turkey or egg salad Sandwiches have been served multiple times for dinner with a glass of juice and water always given. The two ladies who do laundry for all the 39 residents also clean the hallway and the residents Rooms. Way to much for two people to do a good job. I feel for them. The Mercedes Benz van that sits out front of the place does just that. Sits. No one who works there full time can drive it!!. The maintenance man is there two days a week and he is the only one I ever saw drive it to renew the registration. So don't plan on doing any sightseeing. Or keeping a doctors appointment unless you have transportation. The only reason my sister is there because I've had to hire two full time caregivers as I stated earlier and I live close by. I've asked the Administrator to have the cable company come and find out why more than a few channels are not getting good signals. The maintenance person tried but still not good. The blinds in my sisters room are in need of replacement not repair which has been tried more times than I can count. (I even tried). Leaving no privacy when one or more are missing. Harborview Senior Assisted Living exceeded my expectations…read more After an increasing number of falls and associated hospitalizations, I was no longer able to care for my 91 year old mother at my home. She didn't want to have to move into an institution and I didn't want her in one either. However I also didn't want her in a place so small there wasn't activities and stimulation. I'm so happy that with the help of a placement guide we found HarborView. It's a beautiful mansion with manicured gardens set on a hill overlooking the stunning San Diego Bay that has 30 residents, a full staff and daily activities. After moving in we quickly found out that the staff is what really makes this place special. They are loving, attentive, respectful, courteous, caring and fun. There are always lots of smiles, laughter and music to enjoy as well as good food and the highest quality of care. I cannot recommend this place more. HarborView Senior Assisted Living was truly an answer to our prayers. It was the perfect place for my beloved mother's final days. It is a beautiful loving caring home, not an institution. She has left us now, but she was both blessed and enriched by the love and care she received from their wonderful staff. I, and all of our family, was blessed by them as well. Thank you HarborView.
