This is hands down the best dentist office I have ever been to. Amazing, friendly staff, clean and comfortable clinic, new technology, and best of all, a dentist who really knows what he is doing and is such a friendly and caring guy. I have a lot of dental anxiety and chronic illness, and he and his team made me feel so comfortable, and were so accommodating with my disabilities. I came here for help after a horrible experience at another local dentist -- I had been in pain for months despite my former dentist continuing to gaslight me and tell nothing was wrong after she did a filling. Dr. Blair very quickly was able to see from a 3D model he took, that the filling had been done wrong, that the first dentist had left a gap at the bottom exposing the nerve and letting food get trapped underneath, where it had caused an infection. I wound up needing antibiotics. Dr. Blair found the problem in just a few minutes and he fixed it in maybe 15-20 minutes. No pain or discomfort since. After all that needless suffering because of the previous dentist. To finally have relief from the agonizing tooth pain and to be able to chew food again is life changing, especially as someone who is in chronic body pain 24/7, every bit of relief is massive help. I am so grateful to Dr. Blair and his amazing staff, including the techs and reception and billing staff. Everyone has been so wonderful and it feels so nice to finally feel confident that I am in good hands, and they care about my wellbeing. This clinic takes care of my entire family. My youngest has been coming here since she was 3, and the staff and Dr. Blair have always made her feel comfortable. We've had some rough experiences with other clinics with our older children who are now teenagers. They now look forward to their dental appointments rather than dreading the awkward encounters. The hygienists and assistants are all friendly and communicative. The kids appreciate how much effort they all put forth to make them feel included in the discussions and work done. The scheduling staff is friendly and accommodating. And lastly bit definitely not least, April is a pure gem! She works with the insurance and payment plans to ensure you're getting the most with what you have available, and she is very understanding and accommodating as well. I've been a patient here for the past few (3?) years and have usually had good experiences although admittedly one receptionist always seems perturbed at all times. Long story short between a death in the family and my own emergency surgery and hospitalization my family has fallen on hard times. I have also fallen a little behind on cleanings and was overdue. (It had been one year since my cleaning and two years since xrays.) When I showed up at a recent appointment. I asked to skip the xrays for financial reasons. The dentist explained to me the importance of regular xrays and I agreed and said I still could not afford them at this time. He said it was up to the hygienist if she wanted to clean my teeth. She measured my gums and said they were worse than before, which I think makes sense since I had missed a cleaning, though frankly I know they aren't "bad." I'm a regular brusher and flosser. (The gums mostly measured 3-4, with one area of 7, because i have always had a deep "pocket" there.) She said without xrays she wasn't comfortable cleaning my teeth and that I should come back when I could afford xrays. She said they could lose their license for cleaning my teeth. She indicated it was unethical to clean my teeth without this routine xray. So instead, she thought it was ethical to send a patient away with teeth in need of a good cleaning. The whole situation was surprising and humiliating. Needless to say, I won't be going back despite previously giving them my business over the years. I called another dental office and explained the situation and they had a very kind response, got me scheduled at the beginning of next week. read more

Don't waste your time. I recently moved to Portland and chose this dentist because they're in-plan and close to where I live. I went in for a check-up and routine cleaning. The staff were friendly enough. After they took some X-rays, I spoke to a dentist, who seemed reasonable and knowledgeable. We talked through a few minor issues that might need attention in the near future. He was not pushy and seemed sympathetic to concerns about cost. I have no complaints about him. About an hour after my appointment started, a hygienist came in to (in theory) start the cleaning. After poking my mouth for fifteen minutes or so, she told me that I had advanced periodontitis and would require a special "deep cleaning." The dentist notably said nothing about gum disease. A deep cleaning would require several follow-up appointments and cost over $300 after insurance (I believe it would be around $2000 without). I asked if I could go forward with a normal cleaning; she told me that was not possible. I left. After an hour and a half at this office, I did not get a single tooth cleaned. It is perfectly bizarre to me that a hygienist would prescribe advanced gum disease intervention after a dentist (who spent considerable time looking at my mouth and went over my X-rays with me in detail) said nothing about it. When I pointed this out to the billing person, I was told that the dentist does not check for periodontitis, which I find very hard to believe. Either the dentist is not paying attention or (as seems more likely to me) the hygienist is going rogue here. If you'd like to spend an hour and a half of your busy day at a dentist office and not get your teeth cleaned, by all means book an appointment here. Otherwise, look elsewhere. read more

I went to Dr Blair about a bad cavity in a tooth. he took xrays and at first said I needed to have two teeth pulled and put in implants. I told him I didn't want both teeth pulled. He then said he would pull the one (cause the cavity was so large) and do a root canal in the other. Well, I went for a second opinion. The new dentist was able to save the one tooth (the cavity was as big as the xray showed) and there was NO decay in the tooth Dr. Blair wanted to do a root canal in. (He examined the one tooth, and said the shadow in the xray was due to the crown not fitting correctly, and he can fix it.) My new dentist was wonderful to work with and treated me as an adult taking my opinions seriously. He didn't just go from the xray and waited until he could see the tooth under the crown, then give me a treatment plan. Dr. Blair was in a hurry and didn't take time to really do a thorough analysis nor to take my opinion seriously. Always get a second or third opinion, if you are suspicious of a treatment plan. read more

I came in a while ago. Everyone seemed friendly, the routine cleaning went well. Then I was ushered into April's office (the finance person). That's when she went over my "care plan" and wanted to know when we could get started on over $4,000 of work that was recommended by Dr. Blair. This was shocking, I was just coming in for a cleaning and exam. April said that's what happens when people don't regularly see dentists sometimes. I visited my previous dentist twice a year for 20 yrs and had no issues like this. When my former dentist retired, I started looking for a new dentist closer to my home. April said "don't worry, you have good insurance and they'll pay most of this", I realized what was happening. They're just out to bill the maximum they can. I decided not to come back but apparently I'm on their mailing list. I just got this: "Starting May 26th there is a COVID-19 surcharge of $15 that will be applied to all billable appointments." I'm all for the safety of hygienists and customers. Of course they're going to grab a few more dollars from everyone while they can. read more

I needed a new dentist because of insurance changes, so made an appt with Dr Blair. I didn't even get to see Dr Blair, but rather a different dentist (who didn't even tell me her name and was being somewhat patronizing) proceeded to tell me I had to have a tooth pulled or get a gum graft ("If I wanted to save it"). A follow up appt with an actual periodontist indicated neither, and he was a little shocked that those were the options told to me. Found a different dental office which is great. Never heard anything from the Powell dental office again (despite having my X-rays etc transferred to the new office). Wouldn't the main Dentist want to know why someone left after one appt? Im sure this place works for some people but not a good experience for me, just don't go. read more

I highly recommend Dr. Vashti Bueso. I have had a change of about 7 Dentists over the past 3 years with a particular Dental company. I will refrain from naming them here. I have been wanting to get away from them for some time but kept needing them for warranty work. I finally came across Dr. Vashti Bueso. She seems to take great pride in what she is doing and seems to honestly care for her patient. As far as Powell Dental, the office is very clean, looks like they have modern equipment and the others in the office were very friendly. My hygentist (forgot her name) was very thorough and seemed to know what she was doing. I wish the $15,000.00 in dental work I spent at my last location went to this Dental office. read more

Staff was helpful at first, dental work seemed to go ok overall. So I then recommended Powell Dental to my wife, who unfortunately had a really bad experience with them. She went in for a cleaning, and they tried to talk her into having an expensive procedure done - which she did not need - so they then refused to clean her teeth. She then saw another dentist who cleaned her teeth, and confirmed that she did not need the procedure that Powell Dental was pushing for. After my work was done, they told me they had over-billed me by $40, and would send me a check. Over the next couple months I contacted them multiple times, and let them know I hadn't received the check. They kept asking if I had moved, I let them know I had not. I asked if they could confirm whether they mailed the refund to me, but they could not. I never received the refund, and have stopped trying to get it. How will they balance their books? I've taken my business elsewhere. read more

I went to this dentist because it was near to home and on my insurance company's website. I experienced extreme sticker shock. For the last several years under Kaiser they said I was doing good, but here I was given a $2000 list of work to be done. Furthermore, I didn't get my basic cleaning because the exam and xrays took so long. Staff was very friendly and the office is clean and welcoming. However, this is a dentist who is very aggressive in treatment and who chooses the most expensive treatment options. If that's what you like, go for it. If you are on a budget, look elsewhere. Me teeth don't even feel straight anymore or when they took off my braces. It's kinda like going to an underground Russian dentist. They'll take your money, but won't care about how they work on your teeth. Kinda sloppy at times. Front desk people aren't so friendly either. I'm giving an extra star for dr. Blair and his kindness to work with me for follow ups and a few little price adjustments. He also has great bedside manners. The rest of my experience there was that the reception and billing staff were confusing and even harsh to me at times. A big complaint was that with all the fillings I got, I can live with a metal mouth but prefer the natural looking white fillings but couldn't afford them. Then, they told me later that I could have gotten them because they were in fact covered on my insurance. I'm not only stuck with those, yet after my first bit of work, one of my gums started receding very badly, I can feel it all the time. Then, the more work I got, the more gums were exposed but I've never had this issue before. Update I got a second opinion and changed my rating It took a very long time, months to recover from my fillings I never did find out why my gum problem started when I began working with this dentist read more

I love these folks. Everyone is always smiling and pleasant and extremely competent, in years having my teeth taken care of here I have had zero unpleasant experiences. Even more importantly, there is no hard sell. I appreciate the "watch and see" approach to old fillings and crowns that don't look so great but also don't really need to be fixed or replaced just yet. When a jagged spot is bugging me, Dr Blair smooths it down. When a filling needs to be replaced, it's done quickly and as pleasantly as possible. Never any problems getting seen when there's a problem, and they are wonderful about sending text reminders for appointments. I send my partner and my friends here. read more

I've been going to Powell Dental for about 6 months now. I have adult braces, so I see the staff and Dr. Blair at least once a month. The staff is friendly and attentive to my needs. Services I have had done by them, so far: 2 cleanings, 3 filings, and my braces. I must say, they do a fantastic job and I am very pleased with the results I'm getting with my braces. The facility is very neat, clean, up-to-date and you can even watch tv while you are getting you teeth done, that's actually a plus for me. read more

Three years ago I had a root canal done improperly by Dr. Blair. As x-rays at an endodontist would show, the root was very clearly not filled all the way. After waiting in pain through a 4-day weekend, I came in, waited 20 minutes before Dr. Blair did a quick check and said everything was fine. I asked if he could double check in some way and he insisted it was just inflamed and just needed time to heal. Then, AFTER I left, he checked my x-ray and realized he made what later revealed itself to be an obvious mistake, and asked me to come back. I had learned my lesson in dealing with his arrogance. I ended up paying a specialist to do another root canal and have never been back. My tooth has never been the same since undergoing two root canals in one week. Dr. Blair caused harm as a result of not double checking his own shoddy work and having unprofessional approach to hearing patient feedback. read more

Let me preface this review by saying that I've had really bad dental luck and many bad dental experiences in the past. MANY! So I had my guard way up going into my first appointment. By the time I had walked into Dr. Blair's office, I was completely terrified by the thought of yet another person touching my teeth. However, to my pleasant surprise, that visit (and all my subsequent visits) did not at all live down to my poor expectations. First stop, the waiting room: clean and comfortable with very inviting front-desk staff. Hardly any wait time at all. Within just a few moments I was escorted to a well-lit room that had a flat screen TV broadcasting cable. I get to watch HGTV while you probe my mouth? I can dig it. The exam itself was streamlined and thorough thanks to some nifty technology that they use, and Dr. Blair explained results/recommendations in a way that didn't make me feel like an awful person with awful eating and hygiene habits (which is not the case btw!). Did I mention that the dental hygienists were nice too? Really nice! They smiled at me and made me feel at ease. Everyone in that office smiles. I love it. I will admit that I was a little overwhelmed by all of the treatment that I needed, but they broke it up into phases that made it physically and financially more manageable. They gave me complete say-so in how/when I wanted to do everything, and they also offered suggestions that would help me take the fullest advantage of my insurance benefits. I like options, and I like saving money. I'm pleased to announce that I've officially completed my first treatment phase, and the amount of pain that I did not have to endure (in relation to my previous experiences) was phenomenal. Preciate it! Dr. Blair was really concerned with my concerns and took extra caution to make sure there was as little discomfort as possible. I did have two hiccups with the same tooth, but both of those issues were remedied very quickly and efficiently with follow-up visits. The tooth in question looks and feels much better than it did before. I'm looking forward to replacing the rest of the archaic silver in my mouth with more aesthetically appealing white fillings. Yes there is an up-charge, but in my opinion it's worth it cosmetically. You can decline them and stick with amalgam if you'd like though. Dr. Blair is the best and most affordable dentist I've ever had, hands down. I'm no longer living in fear of the drill. I had the same dentist since I was a child up until a few years ago when he retired. I have seen a few other dentists since then and no one compares to Dr. Blair! He is extremely kind and remembers things about you that you told him a year ago that you wouldn't imagine he'd remember. He always asks how you're doing during your appointment and makes sure if anything is causing pain or bothers you to let him know. He asks multiple times. He's quick and thorough. The rest of his staff are also great with the exception of the front desk. Though not rude or unpleasant, they lack friendliness and do not provide the most welcoming atmosphere. Dr. Blair was recommended to me by my former hygienist (who has since retired) because she believed he was a great dentist. I found Dr. Blair to be extremely knowledgeable, low pressure, and in general a nice person. I have had fillings and crowns and the procedures were flawless. Heidi is my current hygienist and I find her to be extremely hard working, thorough, gentle, and personable. She has been very accommodating and is as good a hygienist as I have ever had. My husband and I both came in to see the dentist for a routine check today. The staff was very nice and got both of us in in a days notice. I spent a good amount of time talking to the hygienist Lily just making conversation until the doctor was ready which I really enjoyed. They seem to have really top of the line technology. They snapped photos of different areas of concern and were able to show me what they were seeing on the spot. All in all we both had really enjoyable visits and will definitely continue coming to Powell dental read more

Its always difficult finding, and then working with, a new dentist. Powell Dental was the first place I tried that was nearby and in my insurance group. And I've not looked back. The office staff have been so generous and helpful dealing with several insurance issues and with rescheduling appointments. All of the hygienists I've worked with were terrific. Professional, friendly and providing high quality service. Recently I needed a filling replaced in a front tooth which is never much fun. However, Dr. Ryan made it very easy being quick and efficient as well as excellent at what he does. The enamel color match is absolutely perfect. I was in and out in less than an hour and by the end of the day I could have easily forgotten it had ever even happened at all! I was also really happy with the ability to make monthly payments to take care of the balance that insurance would not cover. My experience has been very good. read more

I have only had possitive experiences with Dr. Blair and staff. the front desk getting my insurance info and dental plan figured out in order to best utilize ins money for the yr. the cleanings have been thorough and the hygenists great at their work.
