Next, let me state that I have known the two main dentists here for many years, and they are exceptional people. Very kind, warm, friendly, and honest. I have trust in them as people as much as I have trust in them as my providers. Drs Kevin and Jodie Morich are amazing humans! The clinic itself is located in a historic building called the water tower. They recently updated their space and it is very modern and clean. There are murals close to the ceiling that are absolutely spectacular. As you would expect, the space looks very sterile and intentional about Keeping things as sanitary as possible. One of the best parts about this clinic is that they have three therapy dogs and a therapy tortoise. If you want, they will have one of the dogs sit in your lap during your exam with the dentist. It's another layer of amazing on top of an already outstanding experience for your general dental needs. Check it out!

We had a small procedure done on my child, and I didn't like how it was handled. They didn't properly prepare my child for what would be done, which caused fear and tears during the procedure. Afterwards, they sent me a survey asking about my experience. I was honest and said things could have been handled better. As a result, the dentist called me herself and "invited" me to find a new dentist. I found that pretty shocking and rude.

I cannot speak highly enough of Dr Wages and her team. Both our children have been seeing her for a…read morefew years. I wish we had found her years before. We tried many dentists and she is by far our favorite. Quality of care is excellent, she is kind to her patient's and treats them really well! In my experience you don't find that care as often as you would hope for or expect. I appreciate the experience she creates for the kids and their families. Our experience in her care has been cleanings, preventative care, she has given helpful feedback on good oral care habits, and she placed caps on our oldest childs front teeth which turned out amazing! And boosted his confidence no one knows they are not his real teeth. Our youngest had surgery with Dr Wages when she was around two. Surgery is hard to walk into and not be concerned. Dr. Wages took time to explain everything and answer any questions or concerns we had. That led me to trust her, most care providers get frustrated if you ask to many questions. I was still terrified of what the risks were however everything went excellent and just as Dr Wages said it would. Within a day our child was eating and drinking as if she never had surgery that still amazes us. The world is a better place because of her sincere care for children and the care and quality of care she provides them. Today we had an emergency I reached out to Dr Wages office. They fit us in for an emergency appointment right at closing, in my panic its a bit of a blur what I do remember is Dr Wages calling to find out what was the best care option and helping me access the situation based on what I saw. Her questions helped me look at all the risks and make a good decision. She and her team had already worked all day and they were kind enough to stay and help. I sat there and just thought what would we do without each of you? It's beyond comforting to know that your child is in good hands, with people who care and know what they are doing! Life is busy we all are tired and when people set aside going home and take care of another human you can't help feeling extremely grateful that they care enough to do so. I want to add after leaving Dr Wages we went to an urgent care and were turned away because everyone was scheduled to end their shift and we had no appointment. I wanted to share because it is so rare to find care like the care Dr Wages and her team provide. And I would like to add one final thought on my experience with the receptionist. In my experience its very hard to find dependable people who are good at what they do, medical receptionist have to be efficient and be able to work with and understand insurance policies and deal with those insurance companies. Its hard to find any human that can do all the things required for a job and balance relationships with clients. I feel like it is two separate worlds. And if we can grasp what another person does behind the scenes it isn't so personal. I like her, she is good at her job, she is blunt by nature which probably makes her really good at dealing with insurance companies. Blunt people are often misunderstood at least from my experience. I would urge you to decide on quality of care and how your child is treated over a how friendly the receptionist is. Friendly people aren't always good at their jobs because they are so busy being social. Just my honest thoughts after working with many different personality types I would take serious and to the point every time even if they ruffle feathers occasionally. Also with so much AI and in our recent emergency we couldn't get ahold of a human who could answer our questions about which urgent cares were open and if they were did we have to have an appointment. I just want to point out humans have such value and if we are kind and ask questions it can prevent alot of misunderstandings wait and try to understand their job or what they are going through. The concept of two truths can apply here, clients can be right and so can the receptionist. But that has never changed the quality of care and for us that is our highest priority, our kids are treated well and the work lasts. For me I had a dentist as a kid who did poor quality work and I have had that show up as an adult. Not every person is good at what they do, and that really matters. If there are any parents who's child absolutely hates having their teeth brushed like our kids hated brushing their teeth, we found the song "Brush your teeth" by Charlie Hope helped them look forward to listening while we brushed their teeth and it helped us brush them long enough to! Play and connection really do make a world of difference for both the child and the parent or caregivers. I felt so overwhelmed that I reached out to a JAI certified parent coach and it's been a tremendous help in so many ways including the once dreaded teeth brushing. Make things fun and playful any chance you can and those memories will last a lifetime for the child and the parent.

I am an OHP (CareOregon) dental patient and goodness gracious it has been an absolute nightmare…read morefinding quality dental work/dentists that take OHP at all or can even get you in for an appointment in a timely manner at all. After having a terrible experience with another dentist in Portland I searched for months for a new dentist until I got to the point of experiencing a fall that resulted in a couple of broken teeth and desperately needed to get in somewhere. This dentist office doesn't pop up right away in the search options for OHP accepting dentists but after some referrals to really scarrrrry looking establishments I dug a little bit deeper and I am SO glad I did!!! Not only did Southwest Hills get me in the very next week! But they were so easy to communicate with via email and text because my mouth was in pain so speaking on the phone wasn't very fun at that moment. The 2 receptionists I dealt with were extremely friendly and efficient, and their intake paperwork is very simple and fully able to be done online before your appointment. Upon getting to the location some people in the comments here seem to be judgmental about the building alone, which is already rude in my opinion, but it's located in what you could say is akin to an older small business building how a lot of doctor's offices were in the 90's. It's older "looking" but very well unkept on the inside and actually pretty charming, very clean and cutesy retro. Staff again was very friendly upon my arrival at the appointment and I did not have to wait long to be called back. The hygienist who took care of me was absolutely lovely and was so fun to talk with we really got to chatting and it calmed my nerves so much! She also had a really cool handheld camera-like device to do the X-rays which made it extremely quick and painless with none of that running out of the room between every click business. She was so gentle in her exam and very educational on what I should and could be doing for my teeth! Next was the dentist himself Christopher Hill. What an absolute gem. I told him some of my bad experiences from other dentists and the judgements I have faced being on OHP and he sincerely apologized that I had to go through that and told me he does not care at all what insurance I have, that he's just happy to have me in his chair taking care of my teeth. So kind. He also gives very good discounts on things like crowns to his OHP patients which is a huge blessing. He conducted his exam which was also very gentle and painless, even giving me a screening for oral cancer which I have never had a dentist do which I thought was pretty neat, and came up with a great game plan for getting my teeth all fixed up! Within a month I have 2 returning appointments already booked and was offered anxiety medication when I expressed some fears I have. Overall absolute 10/10 experience here and I can't wait to come back for the rest of my appointments and get my teeth back to beautiful again, and if you are hesitant about dentists or have OHP this is the place for you! I was not paid or persuaded in any way to leave this review and honestly I've never left an online review of any service like this before, but I thought it was important for anyone struggling like I was to see this and get the help they need. Thank you Southwest Hills! -Kelsey Fierro

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at SW Hills Dentistry. From my appointment with Dr…read more Hill to the follow up communication afterward, I consistently felt dismissed rather than cared for. My case required a referral to OHSU, which was submitted in April. After waiting nearly nine weeks without hearing anything and making multiple attempts to follow up, I reached back out to SW Hills Dentistry hoping they would advocate for me or help move my care forward. Instead, I was repeatedly told to call someone else and essentially left to navigate the situation on my own. What was most upsetting was not the delay itself, but the complete lack of empathy and professionalism shown throughout the process. Several email responses came across as rude, dismissive, and unnecessarily defensive. Rather than acknowledging my concerns or attempting to provide compassionate support, I was told there was nothing they could do and, after expressing my disappointment with my experience and with Dr. Hill's demeanor, I was effectively told to find another dentist and sent a records release form. The email stating, "Since you think Dr. Hill is rude and unpleasant this isn't a good fit," was particularly unprofessional and felt more like a personal reaction than a response from a healthcare provider. Patients should be able to provide honest feedback without being met with defensiveness. I understand specialists and insurance networks are outside of their control. However, kindness, empathy, and professionalism are entirely within their control, and unfortunately those qualities were lacking in my experience. I never expected miracles, only compassion and some level of advocacy. Instead, I was made to feel like an inconvenience. I would not recommend this office to anyone looking for a provider who values communication, patient support, and professionalism.

That's what he did with me. When the root canal was finished, I told him, "It would've been nice if there had been a LITTLE less chit chat during it" ( he chit chatted with his assistant nearly constantly during the root canal ). Instead of accepting the constructive criticism, and maybe learning from it, he got defensive. Then I mentioned how I didn't have much anxiety coming in, until he said, "Let's get this nightmare over." He got MORE defensive. "We have anesthesia available," he said. I don't know, simply not referring to the procedure as a "nightmare," right before performing it, seems a lot easier than doing anesthesia. On a side note, but worth mentioning, before the surgery, something in our conversation led me to joke, "My dad didn't tell me about sex growing up. One day my dad said, 'You know about the birds and the bees, right?' I said, 'Yeah.' And he said, 'Good, I'm glad we had this discussion'.... That was a joke." Dr. Bayat said, "Well, here's something that's NOT a joke. The only time my dad mentioned sex was he said, 'Don't get AIDS.'" I think he also said that his dad said, "Don't be gay." So, again, words that might not put certain patients at ease. Dr. Bayat seemed alright when I first met him, a week ago.
