Don't see this dentist. After very nearly drilling into the wrong tooth, they installed an over-contoured crown in my mouth -- basically a crown that is too big -- and then blamed me for "clenching" at night when I developed tooth pain and became unable to chew on the left side of my mouth. Then they prescribed me a mouthguard that was so tight, I could hardly remove it when pulling with both hands. Instead of acknowledging that the mouthguard was faulty, Dr. Diana put her hand on top of mine and pulled on the mouthguard with me until we were finally able to remove it with our combined strength. Predictably, the mouthguard didn't help me and gave me severe headaches. The dental assistants at Friendly Smiles say they all wear mouthguards every night, which suggests they've all had the same shoddy dental work and ill-fitted crowns. Dr. John D. Aspros identified the source of my tooth pain -- the over-contoured crown -- and informed me that I was basically scammed by this dentist. He also feels the expensive root canals I had here may have been unnecessary. Don't go here under any circumstances. They will take your money, ruin your teeth, and blame you for the consequences. read more

I asked if I could make a new patient appointment and she said they aren't taking new patients until next year. Not exactly "new", is it. I thanked her and hung up. read more

I highly recommend this Doctor and his staff for any dental work that you need. Dr. Lee is mellow and stays completely aware of how you (the patient) are reacting to the work that is being done on your teeth. I've always had a horrible fear of dentists. Not here! I've been going here for over a year now. This is the only place I've ever felt genuinely comfortable! I've dealt with both drs personally, and they've been SO sweet, understanding, and thorough! They've even fixed crummy work from other dentists I've been to. The other day I had a root canal and it was one of the most pleasant days I've had in a while ! Side note just to say that Mischelle that works the front desk is the friendliest and most helpful person you'll ever meet! She is just the best! And they actually give you great estimates as to what everything will ACTUALLY cost, it's always reasonable (I have pretty mediocre dental insurance, and I usually pay pretty little out of pocket). I just had my first visit to Friendly Smiles and despite dental anxiety, it was a great appointment! Once I have a dental team I know and trust, I am good about keeping up with check-ups but since moving to PDX a few years ago, I hadn't gotten up the courage to find a new dentist! After hearing good things about this team, I finally made the call and was relieved to hear they were able to get me in within a week. Shanda was my awesome hygienist and she walked me through the process from the start, gave me zero shaming about how many years I had gone without seeing a dentist, was super easy to talk to and did a fantastic job getting my teeth whipped back into shape! Dr. Brandon Lee did my exam, reviewed my x-rays and figured out what my ghost pain was (not cavities! Yay!! Clenching teeth while sleeping! Boo!). He was really easy-going, friendly and knowledgeable! The staff had full PPE and made me feel safe during my way long overdue visit! Nice people but I would not recommend this dentistry. I had work done between 2019 and 2021. They tried to fix my tooth with a root canal twice, I complained a few months after that there was still pain and was told it was normal. A year later and my tooth is worse than it has ever been. I ended up leaving with more mouth pain than I did before coming in after each visit. Before this I had the same dentist for 27+ years and I never once had issues like I had at Friendly Smiles. read more

This business is open T-TH as shown, but alternates weeks between being open on Monday and being open on Friday, so they always have a 3-day weekend but alternate whether that 3rd day is a Friday or a Monday. They returned my "new patient inquiry" call and made an appointment *fast* -- I was really impressed, as in some places dentists with good reviews accepting new patients are scarce as ... um, hens' teeth? I must admit - I hate going to the dentist. However, if I have to go, this is the friendliest group of folks I could ask for. We've never had to wait for more than five minutes. Every single staff member seems genuinely happy to be there. Plus, Dr. Lee is great a what he does! My husband had a fairly complex procedure in 2015, and Dr. Lee worked closely with our schedule/budget constraints. I hate going to dentist. I don't like the drilling noise in my ears. I don't like the ouchy in my mouth. I especially don't like paying the expensive bills even after insurance. Now, this part is going to sound cheesy like those local tv commercials, but I honestly don't mind it at all going to dentist since I found Dr Brandon Lee. First, making appointment is easy. Michelle is the front desk superstar. Not only that, if you told her the detail of your insurance, she will be in touch with your insurance companies to get an estimate for your treatments. There will be waiting period for this because insurance companies usually take their sweet time. After that, she will tell you how much out of pocket cost you have to pay on the day of your treatment. I think that's the number one reason why I like this dentist because I like to know how much I will need to pay out of pocket. No hidden or high charges = a good thing for Olivia T. Dr Lee is pretty damn cool for a dentist. He's funny, friendly, knows what he's doing, and he always wants you to be comfortable. The rest of his staff are the same. When I called my dentist to schedule my upcoming cleaning, I was surprised to find that my insurance had changed and I needed to find a new dentist. A friend recommended Dr. Lee to me and I am so happy she did. Dr. Lee is very friendly, relaxed, and professional, tells you exactly what is going on as he finds things, and is very thorough about different plans and approaches to fix things. His staff is small, and that makes it even more welcoming whenever I walk in. The two ladies who work for him are very friendly, very good at what they do, and always make me feel completely relaxed and at ease. Dr. Lee and his staff have also been very helpful in assisting me in the search a few different specialist (since I had to find new ones when my insurance changed). They know many different specialists in the area, from orthodontists to periodontists. This place is exactly how every dentist should be. Here's a list of attributes that this dentist has that all dentist should also have: -Had a 4 o clock appt, Started at 4 o clock. -Wasn't made to feel bad about not flossing enough (They of course told me the benefits of flossing and said I need to floss more, but I didn't feel lectured) -Had newer technology - no fancy gizmos, but I could tell that they were using new updated equipment such as x-ray equipment, digital screens and a sonic blaster thingy. Went to Dr. Lee for a whole lot of dental work, and he did a great job each time! The only discomfort I experienced was jaw pain that lasted several days after my wisdom tooth extraction, but that was because he had no choice but to saw off part of the bone to get the tooth out... something that happens the longer you wait to have your wisdom teeth removed (I'm 33). Other than that, I felt very little discomfort. Also, another mention I wanted to make was about Michelle, their front office person. She does an amazing job communicating with you in regards to procedures, cost, insurance etc. Really nice person! read more

I hadn't gone to the dentist in a year for my routine cleaning, so I was a bit hesitant to find a dentist that a) wouldn't ridicule me for not doing the 2x a year cleaning and b) not torture me with their devices. I'm not afraid of going to the dentist, but when you're lying down with your month open and see a person in a mask coming at you with with a sharp object, you suck it up and hope that at least it's quick as possible. When I came to the office, the staff was super friendly and filling out paperwork was a breeze. Then it was showtime: I met the dentist assistant and they took some x-rays: No cavities (yay!), but there was some scraping that needed to be done (no!). So we began. Not gonna lie it was awkward, but it wasn't that super painful. The 80's music in the background made me relax and I let them do their thing. She was super patient and explained every step she was doing to make sure I was prepared. The whole process took about 45 minutes and I got a goody bag at the end! Dr. Brandon Lee is an exceptional 'master of the craft' dentist. In addition to having a phenomenal staff (i.e. Michelle), he brings a realness about my entire mouth condition. I have been with him for at least 2 years now. While dealing with the ongoing root canal these past few months, I can depend on Dr. Lee to fit me in for last minute appointments as needed. He has gotten to the root of the issue (no pun intended), which is my TMJ condition. Also, he was able to see my nephew in from out of town with not one, but two a abscesses. The previous dentist told my nephew that his tooth was alive and Dr. Lee found that it was dead. I am skeptical about dentists, but they're a necessary evil. I scheduled a cleaning and exam with Friendly Smiles on a weekday. Right from the moment I stepped into the Friendly Smiles office, my doubts were disarmed and I knew this wouldn't be the end. The environment was pleasant, the woman at the front desk was extremely bubbly, and I didn't have to wait long until I was called back for my appointment. The hygienist was the best I have ever dealt with: careful, calm, and considerate. She warned me before every single moment that would have an ounce of discomfort. She made conversation with me, which distracted me from the overall dental experience. I only met briefly with Dr Lee because I just had a cleaning done, but he was very nice, professional, and informative. I will continue coming back to this office as long as I live in Portland. Update: I shamefully chipped my tooth while trying to drink from a glass water bottle...and I came in to this office really anxious. They fixed it for free! I rarely need serious dental work (thank you, grandma, for your genetics!), so what matters to me is that the admins have it together and the hygienist is solid. And Friendly gets A+ on both. I've been going here for like a year and a half and it's ultra consistent. They're super organized. You get like 5 reminders for your appointment... texts, emails, whatever you want. They call you over a month in advance when it's time to book your next one. If your appointment is at noon, they take you back exactly at noon. When it's time to see the dentist (Dr. Lee, also A+) after the cleaning he's there, like magic. I always get the same hygienist every time and she's super friendly and sweet (although I'm a jerk and can never remember her name). My teeth are now like little polished gemstones and even though I'm a little baby and wince at everything , she was as gentle as possible so it was worth it. Everyone there from the admin to hygienists to dentists are just reaaaaalllly positive and upbeat and nice. And they never try to upsell me on whitening or any unnecessary dental work like every. other. dentist. Seriously, every one I've ever had, even my childhood dentist wanted my money, and I was an unemployed 9 year old. So these guys are saints in my book, and I think you should go here if you like happiness and organization. read more

I had a nagging toothache, and just kept ignoring. With the onset of the pandemic, I ignored it even more. However, I had to travel out of town and wanted badly to resolve my tooth. It was a bad filling from another dentist, and Dr. Deanna Lee fixed me up right then and there. She and the assistant were fully covered from head to toe in PPE; I was amazed that Dr. Lee could even see through everything covering her face. As she said though, "Laser focus!" I am glad I got that tooth fixed. It has not bothered me once since getting it filled. I have since gotten a cleaning, and that was a painless, safe, and clean experience as well. I started with Friendly Smiles in April 2021 when I moved back to Portland. They have been great and took care of some surprise issues that come with age. Unfortunately, when I went for my semi-annual cleaning in November, they wanted my social security. This came as a shock as I have not had to provide a social security number for medical and dental visits since the early 1970's. I was given the option to provide my social security number and they would bill my insurance (remember, I have been with them for over a year) or pay out-of-pocket and send my bill to the insurance company for reimbursement. This sudden change in the treatment of patients by the front staff just made a day that had not been going well, even more upsetting, I took a third option and walked out. During subsequent email exchanges with the office manager, I found out that since SOME of their patients use their social security number for insurance purposes, they were collecting them from all their patients. Bottom line, if your do not mind giving out your social security number when not needed, Friendly Smiles is for you. A side note: data breaches leading to identity theft has a higher percentage of originating from medical/dental offices. read more

Least amount of pain I have encountered, best customer service I have dealt with, and always professional from beginning to end. Lastly, Michelle in reception is on another level. Dr. Lee and all of his staff at Friendly Smiles are fantastic! It was very easy to become a new patient, get answers about insurance questions, and make appointments. It was only a short wait in the lobby before my appointment, too. The receptionist was very kind, helpful and knowledgeable about billing. The hygienist who saw me was friendly and communicated very well about the cleaning procedure. Dr. Lee himself was also very friendly and held nice, genuine conversation with me. I really felt I developed a good patient-provider relationship, and received a great cleaning! I have never had a bad dentist in the past, but I guess I just didn't feel any relationship with the staff in other dental offices. Dental care is a part of health care, so it's important to feel you can trust your provider. I am so glad to have found a great dentist on the first try in my new city of Portland! Fantastic place! I came here because of the great rating and this place really deserves 5 stars :) Michelle at reception is wonderful, the dental assistant is bubbly and oh so friendly, and of course Dr. Lee is easy-going, friendly and does great work. As a recent US resident, I needed a little help with understanding health insurance which Michelle patiently talked me through. It's refreshing to receive help rather than having someone lazily describe how insurance works and me still be none the wiser. I had an extraction/bone graft performed here. So far so good. Dr Brandon was very easy going but professional as you'd want someone to be who's working in your mouth. I heard him firmly tell at assistant that the tool they brought was substandard for some reason I couldn't understand, so I got the feeling he runs a tight ship, also something I appreciate in a dentist.
