After posting my issue I was contacted by the manager who offered to complete the work and charge only for the parts. I brought the saw back, the tuned it up, charged for the parts and all was good. I made the mistake to buy a Billy Goat leaf vacuum from someone else and was severely disappointed in the effort that shop put into prepping this expensive, complex machine. Finally, after many frustrating months trying to make the vacuum functional, I brought it here and - like magic - they found what was wrong and then fixed it. Wow! Since then, I have bought a Stihl leaf blower and spare parts for my lawn tractor. Good, smart people behind the counter and on the sales floor. Good mechanics off site at their other location to do repair and prep work. Give this local shop a try - much safer than taking a shot at a big box store. read more

I am happy to say I was totally satisfied after visiting the Power Place last week w/ my troubled chain saw. Ryan Sutherland, parts and service advisor, assisted and served me. His level of knowledge, attention to detail and professional manner was truly amazing, and utterly refreshing. I was expecting the short shrift treatment before I put foot in the door. One star is too much! Went to get chainsaw fixed, paid deposit, was told to come back in 3 days because it needed a new carborator. One week later, I went back to and opened up my saw and found out the gas line was leaking and the saw was never looked at, He lied right to my face. I purchased my own parts and did it myself. I will never use this place again. They have no integrity and poor customer service. read more

UPDATE 6/24: The owner called me personally about this situation to make good on it and sent Josh over to my home to take a look. Josh agreed to take it back and they replaced my deck with a new one and put on new tires, and wiped everything down to maintain/service it appropriately. Power Place is a company that truly possesses exceptional knowledge and experience, easily seen in the results achieved as a full-service outdoor power equipment repair shop. However, what truly makes them unique is that have found a way to blend these ultra-modern abilities with some old-fashioned business values, an achievement that not many organizations can duplicate. I learned of Power Place in Rockaway from my father who once told me simply that "you can trust them", an endorsement he rarely gives. Though I know in today's economy it is not uncommon to try to elevate billings with unnecessary repairs to compensate for lower sales, I am pleased to report that Power Place in Rockaway does not believe in such practices. When they advertise as being client-oriented as a focus, they truly mean it, preferring to build business relationships with the customer as opposed to inflating a bill. The process of scheduling an appointment is seamless whether completed online or by phone, with the "at residence pick up" a great option. The individual who loaded my mower on the flatbed (Mike) was an incredibly positive individual who was not only very personable but patient with my questions. After the inspection, I received a call within very reasonable timeframes, confirming the completed work, along with recommendations on additional recommended repairs. What was different was that Power Place helped map out dates in the future taking my financial situation into consideration. Finally, it must be noted that the manager Mark Mertes went way above and beyond in his interactions and assistance to ensure my experience exceeded expectations. As I am limited with space in this review, I plan on authoring a letter to the owners to provide all the specifics. As an individual forced on disability due to unanticipated "difficulties" during surgery, I have had to become reliant on the honesty/integrity of others. Fortunately, Mark and his staff understand that integrity and great workmanship develop trust, which builds a key cornerstone in any relationship. Now they have a customer for life. read more

I bought a Stihl powerhead from them in June of 2022. 2 weeks ago it stopped working. I brought it over there and they charged me a $50 diagnostic fee to even look at it. The next day Mark the manager called me to tell me the carburetor needs to be replaced and it will cost an additional $139. I said I used this piece of equipment 6 or 7 times and its not under any sort of warantee? I asked if he would talk to the manufacturer and his response was I don't know what you expect me to do?? Great customer service. Then he tells me they don't have the carburetor in stock and that it would take 4 days to get it. Over a week later he calls and tells me its in. I picked the unit up, no apology no offering of anything from these guys to try to make the situation better. i will never buy from them again; I'm sure they don't care even though over the past 2 years I've given them nearly $4,000 in business. read more

Sure, mom and pop can buy a top notch piece of gear that they'll use once a season. Whoop dee doo. When I spend an average of $1000 per year there, I expect service over some old fart asking basic questions like, "What do I use a weed whacker for?" Writing this post on my father's behalf. The quality of the workmanship has tremendously deteriorated over the past few years. Over the winter, they changed the mower deck into the snowblower which took 3 weeks, then when my dad picked it up, the battery was dead. They've serviced my father's John Deere lawn tractor doing unnecessary work, charging him nearly $1500 to bring it in once in the spring, once in the winter. This does not include the $90 delivery charge. Power Place preaches customer service to all but it seems all their focus and attention lends to commercial contractors, not "small" people like my father, who has 6 acres of grass to cut and a very long and steep driveway to clear of snow. This has been an ongoing battle and my father has finally had enough. He'll be switching to another store with better customer service. read more

Been a client for a dozen years as they service on and off my Deere Mower. I alternate because the tune up costs more then my cars and I do it for $15 dollars myself albeit not as well as they do it, always comes back in good shape. Just bought a large snow blower, had some issue and they took care of it without a question and returned it promptly. I can understand some reviews concerning attitude since the general store staff can seem indifferent sometimes, however, the big guy, Gus, is the man to see with any issue. A perfect gentleman and honest businessman. Well worth the 20 mile trip without the hassle of dealing with the big box guys where service is practically non existent. Use this company at your own risk. Recently had them pick up a relatively new snowblower they serviced 9 months ago and was told it needed new paddles, scraper bars, a new carburetor among other things... Bill was going to almost $500. When I pointed out that the carburetor was the one they had just put this one on 9 months ago he said "oh well" this stuff happens. No warranty To make matters worse since repair cost would exceed the value of a new one the guy explained that if I didn't pick it up he would be owed $40 for a service fee and it would be $130 to bring it back to me. I decided I wasnt going to allow them to keep it and called my landscaper and told him if he wanted it he could have it, just go get it. Ran across him today and his words were "I saw their invoice... they were going to rob you". "Your paddles are perfect and the scraper looks like it had never been used". The carburator was just dirty and all it needed was a filter to avoid the problem. I was happy to hear he gave it to his father and that someone would be enjoying it not the crooks at power place. I wanted to share this and hopefully help someone else avoid paying too much for work that might not even need to be done. Asked for them to evaluate the deck height (lever wasn't rising the deck properly) and to look at the right ZTR arm. Took over a week for them to call me after receiving the ZTR mower. Gave me a list of repairs (cost of a new ZTR $2500) for unrelated items but didn't really address my concerns on a 3-4 year old machine. Last time I will do business with any of the Power Place establishments in the area -- they all send the equipment to White House, NJ and lied regarding turnaround and took their time to return the equipment (over a week) after I asked for the equipment back. Learning more and more everyday on Youtube while looking for a reputable and customer oriented shop to service my equipment. read more

Avoid Service Department!! Dropped off 36" commercial mower to get PTO replaced/fixed. They said they fix my brand of lawn mowers. So a week goes by and I get a phone call saying they cant start machine. Well it started when I dropped off , I drove it up into back of my pickup truck using ramps, I sure didn't lift machine it weighs over 400lbs. They need to take cylinder head off to investigate further!! 2 more weeks with no phone calls, so I call them. They say just about everything is wrong inside the engine and your looking at $2,000 to get running. No thanks, tell them to put machine back together the way I dropped off and I'll fix myself. Few days go by and have message on phone that machine is ready for pick up, so I go there next day and I'm greeted with a $130 bill for labor and machine still not starting. Argued for a few minutes on phone with service dept( not sure where they are located) about breaking my mower and charging me for it. I reluctantly pay just to get my mower back. Few minutes go by and the guys bring it around to load in my truck with a bag of parts hanging off the side, Air filter not secured and loose wires hanging off the side of mower.(i took pictures to document). Get home and I smell gas, well fuel is dripping out of the carb(took video to document even more). I called my visa company to dispute charges, see how that goes. Also want to talk to friend of mine who's a attorney, see if its worth going to small claims court. Will post results when available. read more

This is my second review of the Power Place and I am still just as satisfied! I just purchased a RedMax backpack blower from them. I spoke to Ian in the White House Station store and ended up picking the unit up in Rockaway. Ian was extremely helpful and spent some time with me discussing the different units and I decided to get one. Ian arranged for me to pick it up in Rockaway where it was gassed up and tested prior to my arrival. Great price and great service! Thanks guys. read more

I haven't had the experience of requesting any repair work; however, I did use them to order parts once I got expert adivce from repair clinic dot com. Their price for the parts were the same as repair clinic dot com and didn't have to wait for, or pay for shipping. One piece had to be ordered and was due in 3 business days after the order. This was fine since I'm a typical weekend shade tree guy... They didn't call to tell me the part in and I finally called them on the 5th day and found the part had arrived. With sites like repair clinc dot com out there repairing equipment and appliances is pretty simple. Follow their videos and get' er dun! My John Deere mower was fixed for $14. I changed out the crank shaft shear pin and saved big bucks over this organization's service fee and Lord knows what else they would have tacked on to this simple repair. read more

They screwed up a routine maintenance of my John Deere tractor: the mower deck was so badly out of alignment that it chewed up the drive belt. And don't depend on the parts department. They couldn't find the replacement belt in three tries. Everything is the customer's fault. Absolutely the worst service department ever. read more
