This shop also sells on Whatnot which is where I bought a brand new, sealed, copy of Master of Reality. It arrived quickly and I put it on my shelf. A few months later I finally opened it, only to find a gash on side 2 of the record. This must've been a faulty press since there are no other signs of damage. I reached out via Whatnot over the course of 4 days and then gave them another 4 days to reply. They unfortunately just ghosted me; no reply whatsoever, so, I unfortunately can't recommend this business to anyone. read more

Found this gem while picking up food nearby. Nothing cooler than finding a music store that still sells vinyl, and a very wide selection. We bought about 6 cool old albums from the sidewalk sale for under $20, and tempted to buy more. The store itself is nice and looks like a really cool place for music lessons (lucky for the locals). A sizable and respectable collection of vinyl heaters, slappers, and boppers can be found at the Power Plant on any given day of the week. I have been to the plant to power up a few times now, and this music spot never ever lets me down. The New Wave section is particularly good. I saw plenty of essential New Wave LP such as The Cure, Depeche Mode, The B-52s, and Bananarama. The Soul/Funk section featured some solid/original James Brown LPS, Herbie Hancock, WAR, and LTD. The prices here are fair. Not the most absolutely fabulous prices ever, but the shrewd crate digger can certainly come away with a good record at a decent price at this location. I think most of the sought after contemporary LPS are around 20 to 30 dollars. No absurd or exorbitant price points here. This place does appear to know that it can sell essential classic rock, New Wave, and Hip Hop to its local customer base. The staff manifested a markedly friendly demeanor. The woman working the front took all of my questions about the inventory, and she traded a few one liners and observations with my about some truck driver who went out of his way to toot his horn at the store; I guess it is some kind of inside joke between the owner and the truck driver. In any case, she found the honking mildly jarring. Geese, one never knows what behavior will fly at a record store. Power to the plant; not to to the weird truckers. read more

I just happened to be in the area and decided to stop by Power Plant Records. To start off, I want to say that the staff is very friendly. However I was disappointed to find out that two albums that I purchased were both missing an LP. I would have appreciated if the associate would have informed me that there was missing LP's or that the condition of the record was poor. I was unhappy because it is not a local shop to me. As an added note, the stickers that were on the albums did not mention about missing LP's or condition of the records. The albums I had purchased were the Marvin Gaye Anthology album and The Song Remains the Same (Live). Don't know if I will return. read more

Most record stores employ pretentious hipsters who only work there to check in "back to the grind" on their Facebook & foursquare status updates, so they can try to convince social media to forget about two years ago when they didn't have their beard or tattoos, because now they work at a god damn record store. But then give you a blank stare if you ask them about burger records. I'm stoked these guys know their tunes and make awesome recommendations. Not impressed. A small stock, 80% overpriced, obviously curated by someone to sell the "coolest", most sought records. If you find a gem in there, (mostly on the wall), it's going to be priced about $3-$5 high than the best Internet price. The only reason I even gave two stars is if I wanted a hard to find album in a hurry that I know I'll be overpaying for somewhere, I know I could possibly find it there. The couple employees busy hanging out with friends (a couple off duty employees), gossiping about drama, dropping F bombs and smoking outside. I was the only paying customer in the store and no one cared. (Duh). Won't be back. read more

New location up and running! Shop owner Ian is a McGreat dude. First bought from him on eBay last year and been a regular at his shop ever since. He specialises in punk, but has metal and classic rock for me and pop and jazz for others as well. Also sells shirts, back patches, posters and stickers. Go browse and pick up some music. A year later and this place keeps getting better. Ian is cool as heck. There are always great scores. Prices are always reasonable and the $1 bins can't be beat. I brought in many records to trade on a about five high-priced used records. Have been a customer for a long time and have spent a considerable amount of money there. No more, because... I spent $13 for a "remastered" Beatles Abbey Road in shrink wrap - looked fairly new but sounded awful - so much noise it was unlistenable. I called to see if I could return the defective record for something that was listenable and was told "we don't except returns." I guess that's why I was not given a receipt either. $13 down the drain. Might have been an acceptable policy for a two-dollar record, but not at $13. I said, "I probably won't be back because of that". The reply: "That's ridiculous". I agree - "ridiculous" return policy indeed. Almost all used record stores and even eBay sellers stand behind their products to retain loyal customers - because they know those repeat customers consistently buy records from them and are not taking advantage - they just want coverage on the rare, occasional defect. Plenty of other used record sources out there with that kind of service - Power Plant Records is not one of them and off my "I'll be back" list. read more

I went day one when this place opened to grab some guitar strings and Biff, the music shop owner, was very inviting and informative. Ever since that day I've been going to the record store to check out their live shows and rare inventory. Unlike other record stores, Powerplant will trade and bargain with records, tapes, cloths and just about anything Retro and out of the ordinary. The Music school is always packed and every night there is a live radio show. Sometimes they have events, bbq's and fundraisers.
