Like many I am interested in the possibility of getting solar panels installed to reduce monthly energy costs and increase the value of my home. I was looking for a local company and found PowerHome Solar (Mooresville, NC). Gave them a call and was connected to one of their sales reps "Joey". He was going through his sales pitch and everything was sounding great. That is until I started asking questions. Many of which Joey couldn't answer. So he decided he was going to transfer me to the Finance Manager. Maurice picked up the call and answered some of my financial questions to the point I was feeling a little more comfortable. He then emailed me the contract agreement which I read over carefully. None of the numbers added up to what we discussed on the phone. He danced around with federal, state & company rebates that would bring my monthly payment down to 1/2 of what I'm currently paying to my electric company. Yet, that's not what the contract was saying. Did I forget to mention that Maurice's job title is Assistant Manager of Quality Control, not Finance Manager? (Dude, at least get your story straight) So, I told him I need a few days to consult with my accountant on the rebates and needed time to do some research. He tried the old "I may not be able to offer you the same deal tomorrow" line. I told him I'm 53, not 23. Nice try. Glad I checked reviews on Yelp & Consumer Affairs. Horrible horrible reviews. I wish I could give less than 1 star! We have had issue after issue with this company and are currently looking to replace them. On install they severed the power cable going from the outside breaker box to my detached garage and tried to hide it and denied they even did it. A licensed electrician wasn't at the house when they did the electrical work and we are currently trying to get all that repaired properly. more recently we started to notice the panels weren't working. Though it is all "monitored " with the website, Powerhome Solar never notified us of anything. As you will see in the attached pictures our house has damage to it from you crew. 1. There are squares cut in our siding and left with no repair. 2. There are SEVERAL holes where the crew has drilled into our siding and now is a major eye sore. 3. They have left this large silver bracket that runs far past our battery box. This is a major eye sore. 4. There is a copper wire laying on the concrete and the ground rode is several inches from the house. All this is a major eye sore. 5. They have cut a large section out of the carport roof and the wood leaving it open allowing water to come through it. And, it probably will not be that long until the exposed wood will start breaking down causing more damage and repair. And we still do not have solar. ________Update : We Received a call stating that there will be a crew the fix everything on 11/6/21 at 11:00 we were very relieved to get this call. WELL NO SHOW. We canceled plans for this appointment the we lost money on! We did have a couple of guys come out Friday 11/5/21 to do some repair but there repairs made this worse ! They replace the edging of our siding that had been cut . Well in the process they knocked out grout and pasted together some type of tin strip. It's looks horrible ! It not even flat and it looks like it's been painted over several times. Oh they filed the holes in the siding with caulk. See pictures below. And I told them we did not want this yellow pole taking up our carport but see the picture below . This is what we came home to! And we are left to pick up nails once again! ________ Its now 12/7/21 we had to have the electrician out because when they hooked up our box and the wiring was lose. Tomorrow is March 1st 2022 and still in hell. we have developed a leak in our roof over a month ago and we have begged and begged for them to come out and repair it but now another thing messed up. I had an appointment 3 days ago for an estimate on solar energy. Guy Joseph came out and seemed rather unconfident in his product and company. While trying to get all my information put into his computer he spent most of the time on his phone talking to his supervisor, Tia James, about how to proceed. While looking in my attic, Guy Joseph put his foot through my ceiling. When he came down he offered no apology but he did offer to clean up his mess. The lead on install wouldn't wear a mask. That's not even half the issue. They left me uninformed most of the way. They dragged their feet with the design and meeting requirements of my power company. On install they tried to leave a large ugly plywood wall in my front yard. I had to fight to get it down and the meter etc in back of my house where it isn't noticeable. Almost a month after install I haven't received my sign on incentive that was supposed to come 2 weeks post install. I also have received the referral credit for the person I referred after I signed on who somehow has been up and running 4 months ahead of me. The people that referred me haven't gotten their sign on bonus. At the 4 week mark they came back with my power company for inspection to turn it on and they had wired it incorrectly so it wasn't approved. Not only that but my power company found their meter's seal was stripped so they invoiced power home and won't schedule another inspection till it's paid. At this point I will start paying my loan on my panels in 1 month and I won't have any solar banked to offset my electric bill prior to then. I wouldn't recommend this company at all! read more

After 1.5 years of the terrible install experience, we found a leak in our closet. Install experience included failing inspection 3 times and techs coming to the house asking "what needs to be fixed here?". Its your job to know why you failed inspection, not mine! They also dropped the attic fan through the ceiling of another closet and didn't say anything until i found the huge hole the next day! Since then, we have had issues with PV link and even needed the Inverter switched out. That took from August u til December 28 to complete that job. May 2022, we called them for another PV link issue. 4 days after that, is when we found the leak. May 22 was when they were notified of the leak, they were not going to send anyone until June 23 to even look at the leak and mitigate the damage of our 4 yrs old house. We pushed for 2 weeks to escalate and finally got someone out to remove the panels on June 6. We had our own roofer repair the house and have now been waiting for weeks for the reimbursement. Panels are sitting in our garage. Pink energy says our situation does not warrant the contract to be rescinded as they want to put the panels back on our roof. They will never touch our roof again. So now we are paying on a $45k loan for a shoddy installation job in which zero manufacturer instructions were followed. This company had complete disregard for our roof, ripped shingles, did not seal any holes and my house was only 2 yrs old when Installed and they have the worst customer service. This has been a nightmare and i have contacted a lawyer to help us get out of this situation as this was a breach of contract. We were lied to be the sales rep to make the sale. Once install (after much damage was done during 2 day install) was done, we had an outage about a month or so after. Realizing this was not what we were supposed to have, we began reaching out. We were tossed from one person to the next. Ending up in talks with potential resolution between the "VIP" assistant director and the CEO's wife, we spent weeks going back and forth. Finally at an agreeable resolution, the rescinded the offer and gave the explanation that I had slandered them on social media and because my husband had reached out to a new reporter. Since then we have been bumped back down to the regular dealings of getting the existing system up to operation. They are avoiding the questions being asked and at this point we are still not up and running. My roof is still leaking. It's become clear that they are not going to make things right but rather keep telling us "we are going to make you contractually whole". Repairs for some things have been scheduled while there are other repairs needed that have not been scheduled after 3 or 4 days since the last "specialist" called me. The last email I sent was also not responded to. The group that was created to "help customers who want help" , is a joke. Not sure about this business. They have an A+ rating with the BBB but some questionable business practices. My husband and I were very interested in going solar and were ready to go with this company. I even had the check for the deposit written. Then we got the contract. It was 44 pages long! I told the rep and the woman on the phone (who at as at corporate) that I needed some time to read it. Truthfully, I did not read the entire thing, but by page 10 found eight things that were not as represented, so it became a "no-go". Now, I have had 3 different calls from their quality assurance department to ask why. The one today said they could give a larger rebate. Really? Then why didn't you give me the best price to begin with? That is what used car salesmen do.... "Let me check with my manager." Having trouble with this company they crew rewire my 220 watts line to my dyer and now I can't dry my laundry. They first response was immediate but the crew they sent had no experience in electrical wire because they were constantly on the phone being instructed on what to do. Now days later from my last contact no one has fix this problem. Costumer service was contacted and informed of my dissatisfaction with the problem. Unfortunately I did not research this company enough before doing business with them. There are lawsuits out, there were 176 complaints filed with the BBB in the last 12 months The crew was friendly and that about the only positive thing I can say. The install was sloppy, which was told to me by the inspector who failed or first inspection. They put a hole in my roof that cause water damage to my ceiling which they still have not fixed 2 months after the fact. They had to come back and fix some of the sloppy work they did on the panels to the rear of the house and some of the wiring ( which still looks like a rats nest and they didn't put my panels back on correctly.) The communication is aggravatingly terrible. I don't think a single time someone showed up on the time they stated they would be at my house. I've called so many times I've lost count trying to get my ceiling repaired. I finally got through to a manager and he put me in contact with a contractor that said he would be able to get to me in a month and then never called back and I can not reach him. I am still in the process of trying to get my ceiling repair and hopefully I can somehow get them to fix the water damage. My neighbors hired this company, when they pulled up they made so much noise you would have thought they were at a football game. When I came out to my car I noticed they were parked on my grass in my front yard. I asked the guys nicely to move there van off my gras and to park at the home they were working at. One of the guy got very rude and yelled I didn't have any grass to park on. I replied it's my property so please move to the home you are working. Run the other direction! In the last 12 months there have been 272 BBB complaints. I wish I had done more research. The sales people know how to get you to sign quickly. Thank God I paid cash and didn't take out a loan. Although I'm still wasting a ton of money, at least I'm not paying interest on it! They sold me a system with a battery that "can get the average family of 4 through the night." Ummm, no, it lasts about 2.5 hours because it only holds about 6kWh! The sales guys don't have solar at home. Just ask them specific questions about the system and you'll find out they don't know the answers. They promised me a home energy saving package. I got a Google nest. I assumed, that this would work with my system which is why they gave it to me... my fault, should have looked into it more. Cost me $250 for the emergency thermostat repair. My system was incorrectly wired on the first day. I had to have a second crew come out for repairs. It is still not working. I can't get anyone to return my phone calls or the dozen emails I've sent and instead I get a past due notice of 61-90 days! The crew was just here repairing my system 3 days ago and it hasn't even passed inspection through the county or my electric company yet! I signed my contract only 77 days ago. That's just signing it, not even having the work or anything done.... To top it off, there are bits and pieces of stuff falling off my roof. Everything from screws, wires, zip ties.... we even had a box come off the roof. I hope no one wants the water bottle that came flying off and hit my car, I threw that away! If people don't start responding to my phone calls or emails for help, I'll start including first and last names of the employees failing to help me. This is incredibly insane! In November, 2021, I was looking to install a solar power system. PowerHome Solar with an A+ rating with the BBB was entering the Texas market. After a five hour sales pitch, I decided on a solar array on my stable and a Generec battery in my garage. For the next three months I experienced the most unprofessional dealings I've ever experienced with any company. For perspective, I have been in business in Texas since 1964. Over those years, our company provided services to Texas universities, major Texas corporations and non-profit organizations with multi-decade contracts. I have never received a bad BBB review, I have never failed to do exactly what I was contracted to do and I have consistently operated with integrity, honesty and transparency. How does PowerHome screw up an almost $100,000 contract? Keep in mind I continually acted in good faith and strived to make this PowerHome solar installation work. The number of non responses, disappearing PowerHome representatives and miss-communications should have been red flag warnings. The PowerHome salesman pressured me into agreeing to a loan through their affiliated entity in order to "lock in" the prices in November, 2021, even though I would be able to pay cash for the system and installation in January of 2022.  The salesman said that when January came around, the loan could be canceled and it would become a cash contract. In January 2022, PowerHome's management said they had no records about this change from a financed contract to a cash contract. I received no responses from PowerHome as I attempted to hold up my part of this arrangement. After several days, I cancelled the loan myself, as I did not trust PowerHome to follow through. My accountant said the PowerHome salesman was off by thousands of dollars regarding the discounts and rebates that he had promised. The PowerHome salesman stopped responding to my phone and email requests for information and was never to be heard from again after November 2021. PowerHome's "concierge" was to give weekly updates. We never heard from her again after her initial November, 2021 email. Strangely PowerHome employees did not want to provide their names in voicemail messages and my call backs went to phones which answered with "this voice mail box has not been set up." I recorded and documented all our PowerHome transactions. After I had cancelled the loan, PowerHome failed to provide a new cash contract until January 19, 2022. I'd already paid their 30% cash deposit. Even before that cash contract was signed, the PowerHome installation staff began inappropriately trying schedule my installation, always wanting to begin the next day. At that time no underground line detection had been completed, nor was the electric company scheduled for the install. There were seven of these erroneous scheduling attempts. PowerHome's internal communication was totally disjointed. The final straw was PowerHome's misrepresentation of our electricity cutoff information. I'm in business. The initial PowerHome salesman in November 2021 assured me that during my installation, my electricity would be off at the most, six to eight hours for one day. On January 31, 2022, PowerHome messaged me asking to have the electricity cut off for three full days for their installation. Three days without electricity during the middle of winter was unacceptable to me. If the PowerHome salesman had had been honest with me about the need for three days without electricity, I would have ended the interview and there would have been no contract and no further discussions. PowerHome staff continued the misrepresentation of the "one day" cut off just days prior to the January 31, 2022 scheduling of the February 2022 installation. On January 31, 2022 PowerHome changed it to three days. On January 31, 2022, I cancelled the PowerHome contract by phone and in writing to all the PowerHome contacts I'd acquired. My attorney immediately sent a written contract cancellation notice to PowerHome's headquarters. Our attorney was not surprised, nor was I, that PowerHome's attorney failed to meet his own deadline to provide PowerHome's response to our communications. In all my experience, I have never been so angered, frustrated or amazed at a company's mishandling and unprofessionalism as that of PowerHome Solar. While the install went well at least everything is installed. The follow through has been poor to say the least. I have had to contact them repeatedly trying to get the ball rolling for inspections and have the system turned on. There is a third party inspection which was to be done, then the building inspector was to come back. Finally if all goes well the meter needs to be changed out so I can turn the system on. In my opinion all this should have been scheduled prior to the install even being started. With the cost of this sitting on the roof and not able to put it online, is like having a new car and not being able to drive it. Get your act together. read more

This is why the marks are where they are at. Powerhouse Solar needs to figure out their customer service issues and how to fix them. However, I got a new guy that promptly blamed the old office manager but knowing how she had operated, I do feel a bit like the new guy was on point. Not good at all... First of all it took from October -April for installation and that was with multiple trips of technicians that always said the last one didnt know what they were doing. Then when it was finished it failed inspection from Power homes district guy. What a mess! Customer svc and tech do not communicate and to top it all off.. . We still have an electric bill and a solar payment that is about 60 dollars more than the salesman told us it would be. Also after talking to our electric company we found out that they only pay wholesale to you when it the solar power goes back to the grid. They charge you retail for it though. I wish we would have never trusted what they were telling us. I have recently talked to Powerhome and they said that system was working fine and there wasnt anything they could do. I bet if it was them paying for a $68000 system something would be done. I wish they could come and get the solar panels and we didnt have to continue to waste our money. They came out and wanted $68,000 for solar panels. They said we could pick 3 things to power during an outage; fridge, sump pump, and power in the living room. (As of right now no power cell can power an a/c during an outage.) Another company called us because they saw we were getting ready to get ripped off. We met with the other solar company and they have a much better product, can power our entire house (minus the a/c) during an outage, and it only costs us $32,000. We let PowerHome know and asked why the drastic difference. We were told that it's because they are insulating the attic and putting a tint in. I'm not sure how doing that would make up the $36,000 difference because a contractor only charges $5000 for it. We got our solar through Power Home Solar and since they have claimed bankruptcy we are having problems. The lights on the Generac box is blinking red and yellow which I know means there is a problem. I don't know who to get in touch with to service them. These panels cost us $45,000 when we got them as we were not lucky enough to get them when you could get them for free. We are elderly folks and cannot afford for this to happen. My husband just has a stoke about 5 weeks ago and wrecked, totaled his truck, and only has 10-15% of his heart. All of this put on me his wife, and I need some advice or help please. Just had Power Home solar install 16 panels on our roof and for the past 3 weeks they have not been able to get the system running. First we were told it was the power cell and it needed a new one. Waited a week for it. They came out and replaced it. It still didn't work. The repair person said all the panels needed to be grounded and needed another PV link. They came out today with the part but it still didn't work and the repair person said the system was installed wrong. The repair person also had to call his company on how to work on a Generac system because he didn't know how to work on it. Now we have to wait another week for them to come back out and try and repair it again. Definitely not worth all the money and hassle. read more

I honestly liked my job at powerhome not because I felt like the company was doing the right thing by customers but because I knew I actually was helping customers and not just streaming them along to just call back the following week. I provided customers with solutions because I understood and knew the product. Most people in the company do not. I honestly valued the CEO Jason Waller based off following him on social platforms. Literally nothing he put out I was out of the loop on because that's how invested i was in the company. However if your BLACK and not favored by sister and friends your getting no where here. A part of me believes he has no idea what is happening in his billion dollar company or he's making billions and can care less. One or the other. Not sure honestly. This company is literally filled with people in position because they are favored friend/family who literally do not care about customers nor do they know or understand the product. Company has NO diversity and inclusion AT ALL except in the break room, no one that makes decisions will EVER be in position here. Managers are so scared that someone beneath them is full of knowledge of product/company that they do anything to sabotage instead of positioning them to improve the company. My system installed back in Sep 14 and it is not interconnected yet. My electric company crew came out for inspection, but Power home solar didn't completed paperwork, so called 'Certificate of Completion', my system is not even activated yet. Excuse from Powerhome solar is they need more pictures to complete paperwork, but they can't reach to the 'Project manager'. This is real nonsense. They said Project manager is not responding and all I can do is waiting. Meanwhile, even before system activation, I need to pay my monthly payment AND electric bill. My husband had a pre- planned appointment with their Rep. We were home all day today Saturday and he looked forward to their visit and to learn of their product on Solar panels. 3pm came and went, no phone call to confirm or cancel our appointment with them. First impressions are the most important and they flunked that one. It really does not make me have good vibes on this company or any service they provide. Reading the review's does nothing for me either. Both me and my husband find this unexceplible business service. To many other solar companies that we can chose from. Glad we did not get involved, so maybe it was our Blessing that they did not show. They made the choice for us. It's a NO GO! read more

Completely misrepresented what the panels are capable of! I was told that 21 panels would more than give me enough power to offset my power bill and now I am stuck paying for their system for 20 years and my power bill is only about half of what I was paying prior to the installation of their system. Be warned, they are out to sell to you and provide no customer service after that, one of my panels is failing within the first year and I have not been able to get anyone to return my calls for weeks! read more
