They moved me to KC and forgot furniture. I got in touch with rhe new occupants and talked them into letting them back in to get the items. They promised to bring the items here on next trip back to KC. I tried to contact them multiple time over several months and kept promising. I called Powerhouse on a Sunday. Got a return call and an on-site estimate on Monday. They came out on Thursday and got it done. Even helped move some items out of a POD at the new location. QUALITY: FIVE STARS for the three men who performed the move. They were friendly, professional and completed the work in a very timely manner. We were moving our mother from a small assisted living apt with an elevator. All items were packed, ready to be moved, and furniture was very minimal, no appliances other than a microwave. We were moving her items to a storage unit about 3 miles away. Took the men about 30 min to load, at best. They also moved a smaller storage unit of her items into a larger unit with the items from the apartment, all on same level of storage facility. Total time from start to finish was 2 hours. PRICE/BUSINESS PRACTICE OF OWNER: ZERO STARS!!!! My problem is with the owner, Tom. I had talked with him twice, in detail, regarding the move. I provided a detailed list of what was being moved, including the number of totes, and he even offered to move contents of her smaller unit into the larger unit since it was on same level of storage facility. He quoted $615 for 3 men for 3 hours, the first time, then second time quoted $625 for 3 men for 3 hours, each time stating the price included everything. I inquired about extra fees on top of this charge. (I'd moved my parents twice already within the last 14 mos plus have two cross-country moves as well as a handful of local moves under my belt so I'm well aware of additional fees - fuel, mileage, etc). Each time I was reassured there would be no additional cost. I made a point to ask him about this since I'd read reviews of him overcharging others. I should have known better, but a friend of my mothers recommended and this is who she wanted to go with. Honestly, my dad had just died a month earlier and my mom was being uprooted for the 3rd time in 14 months due to their failing health and I was just ready to have the move over with. When the job was complete, I was presented with a bill for $715.00. I called Tom on the spot and he was rude and kept saying the quote didn't include certain charges - a contradiction from what he quoted me TWICE earlier! When he spoke to the young man taking my payment, I overheard him saying, "charge her this way since she's freaking out about the charge", which ended up being the same amount. Poor Tom, you are just the type of business person that gives decent folks a bad name. When you have someone standing up for themselves regarding what you quoted earlier on two occasions, a person who has moving experience and knows the right questions to ask, your response is to name-call and belittle them to your employees?? Tony who presented the bill and was one of the three men moving, was apologetic. I explained I was a very detail and organized business person and I didn't appreciate the owner's lying and name-calling. Tony apologized again and said this is a frequent complaint he hears from their customers. As someone who works in a career field who has the opportunity to recommend moving services to clients, you will NEVER get a recommendation from myself, my family or friends. BEWARE: If you use this moving service, PLEASE GET A WRITTEN QUOTE OUTLINING ALL FEES UP FRONT SO YOU AREN'T SURPRISED AT TIME TO PAY THE BILL. Nope, no way. Never. Short version: They charged a 94-year-old man $400 more than the highest end of their quote and didn't even complete the job. Long version: At first, Tom, the owner was very nice on the phone and sounded accommodating. However, the movers were not, and they didn't complete the job. I realize that moving during COVID-19 is difficult, but it has been going on long enough that they should be able to predict some of the complications that come along with it. (Having to get temperature checks at the facility, only two people allowed inside.) I spoke with Tom about moving my uncle out of his one-bedroom apartment at John Knox Village into a one-bedroom home in an assisted living facility. We made a verbal agreement. He said it should take about five hours and be between $900 and $1,200. My uncle is a 94-year-old veteran of WWII and the Korean War on a fixed income. This was not affordable for him, but we had to get him moved. The deal was they would pack his home up, move him and unpack him. However, while I was checking him into the new assisted living facility, I got a call from Tom asking why I wasn't at the facility as I had said. I was there, just upstairs. He said his guys were done and I needed to go pay them. I went down to my uncle's room while he was upstairs checking in and found they were nowhere near being done. They just had stacked boxes and left furniture all over the place. I said you aren't done, the agreement was that you would unpack him. I am not supposed to be down here. They said they had booked another job and didn't have time to finish. And they were not nice about it. Then, a third guy came in who hadn't even gone through the health screening and said he wasn't supposed to be in the facility, but Tom told him to go in to talk to me. He brought in bedding and said, "I guess I will make the bed, but we don't normally make beds." MAKE THE BED?! This is a 94-year-old man who just had hip replacement. You have the entire apartment covered in boxes and furniture. He doesn't even have a toothbrush accessible and can't walk through the apartment. No, don't make the bed. Unpack him, please, like we agreed. And one of the other movers said that they had another home they were supposed to be moving and that the family had to be out of their apartment that day, so they had to leave now. I said but you haven't finished! I called Tom, and he said if I wanted to, they'd come out tomorrow to finish, but they would charge me again for that. I also told him they didn't clean out his storage area at his old place. He said they could get that too, but they would also charge me. The mover came in with a bill. It was for $1,620. That is $420 higher than the highest quote! What 94-year-old on a fixed income can just pay $420 without the blink of an eye? The mover didn't care. He blamed it on COVID and said they weren't planning on temperature checks at each place and being stuck using the back entrance. (To avoid getting the assisted living residents sick.) I told them not to come back the next day. I spent the evening unpacking my uncle even thought I wasn't supposed to be in there. He couldn't be left like that. It was dangerous. I then drove to his old place and filled my vehicle up with items from his storage and moved those myself too. Also, my uncle had a stained glass hobby. They DESTROYED a clock he has had hanging in his home more than 50 years. It was smashed at the bottom of a big box. Who puts a stained glass clock at the bottom of a full box?? He also has the top to a glass table that we still haven't found. Then, the employees at the facility wanted to warn me about the bad attitude of the movers. They said they were aggressive and angry that they had to use a key code. He told them they could disable the key code and they said, "Well, that would have been nice of you to tell us earlier." Just unprofessional. He said they also spilled milk everywhere. I don't understand that as they didn't even move the contents of his refrigerator. I would absolutely NOT recommend this company. We are also dealing with the Better Business Bureau to get my uncle's $420 back. He actually should get more than that since they didn't fulfill heir end of the deal -- unpacking him. We would never have hired them had we known they would smash his things and not finish the job. It's completely unacceptable. read more

I had a small (no big furniture or awkward pieces) move last winter that went SO smooth and fast. I'm sorry it took me this long to review!! I used to work in the moving industry; I would've expected my move to take way longer than it did with Powerhouse. I had multiple stairs at origin and destination. None of the 3 guys ever complained or acted like that was a big deal!! (and that IS a big deal to movers bodies!) They were all sweet, funny, and hard workers!! They arrived perfectly on time. They were respectful of my needs for locations of boxes and my nit-pick-ing. They were even so early arriving at destination that they had to wait for a few minutes for me to get the keys. If you need a moving company these are the guys you want to call. This was the first time my dad and I used a moving company. Tom the owner was patient and understanding with me checking and double checking the date and time of the move. We couldn't have asked for a better group of guys to move us. Lowell, Shawn and Chris were on time, well organized, freaky fast, friendly and accommodating. They really went above and beyond. We had a stack of cd's holding up one side of the tv when they picked it up and when it made it to our destination it was fixed! Also my dad has bad knees and it can be painful for him to stand for long periods of time. The guys made sure his electric recliner was the last thing they put in the truck and the first thing they took out. They took all the stress out of moving. Definitely recommend! read more

They had my entire move done in less than 2 hours, and were nice enough to not only disassemble multiple pieces of furniture, but reassemble them as well! SHADY BUSINESS PRACTICE!!! These guys showed up on time & we're very fast, helpful & polite. The actual movers ROCKED!! My Problem is with the Owner of the company & Supervisor of our move. We were QUOTED the standard $400 for the first hour & $125 for each hour after that. THERE WAS NOTHING SPECIAL ABOUT OUR MOVE!!! We moved out of a two bedroom town home, into a 4 bedroom home. On the day of our move 5 guys showed up. WE NEVER THOUGHT TO ASK IF WE WOULD BE CHARGED FOR 5 GUYS, our budget allowed for a certain dollar amount, as moving into a new home wiped out our savings. I was shocked at the conclusion of our move, when "Lowell" handed my husband a bill for $1055.00. I was NOT Prepared to pay that amount and told Lowell we were not quoted that price & he said "we had 5 guys on your move because of the heat." I felt "TRICKED & DUPED" for lack of better wording. When the movers left, I called the company & spoke to "Bob" & explained that my check was NOT going to clear, as we'd not budgeted for the 5 guy moving experience. Further, I would have appreciated it, if we were told up front of the extra Guy cost, so WE could have made the decision wether or not to use them. Bob said he would have Tom Powers Call me to discuss my pay day & cashing my check. TOM NEVER CALLED, CASHED THE CHECK & didn't look back. TOTAL SHADY BUSINESS PRACTICE. BTW, We only move 8 miles away & our fuel charge was $220!!!! I Regret tipping these guys our last $200 CASH!!!!!!!!! Oh & they chipped our TV Cabinet, scratched the top of it, scratched other pieces of furniture, lost a metal vice arm for my bird feeder & my dog ended up with a sematoma (A bruise from being knocked into). Vet =$75.00. Unfreaking Believable. We will Never recommended this Company again, due to its shady business practices.
