My brother has been going to Winston for a least the last year, so he recommended that I try PR at Partners... I went for the first time yesterday and I was really pleasantly surprised. I never plan ahead for a hair cut, but I really needed one, so I called yesterday morning and Carmen was available. I never go into these things with high expectations because in the past, people with same day availability aren't usually that great (hence the reason why I never go to the same person twice), but Carmen was AWESOME! I have super curly hair and Carmen gave me a great cut and flat ironed it for me on a whim. I didn't really have time yesterday to do a complete transformation, but Carmen made some great suggestions about color and highlights that I've already scheduled for August. Carmen's next appointment arrived, so Blossom finished up my straitening and she did a great job as well. She was really sweet and she has super curly hair like mine as well, so she was able to recommend some really great products that I really couldn't be happier with. The Monacan Oil line for curly hair not only smells fabulous, but my hair isn't crunchy anymore, which is awesome and it held and didn't frizz in this warm weather! Amalia washed my hair and was great too! It was a nice relaxing head massage just as I requested. The water temperature was perfect and she made sure I was comfortable. Not sure why the receptionists have such a bad wrap on here, but they were really great with me. They greeted me in a friendly manor, offered me a drink and at check-out were willing to find a time that worked for me. When I decided I wanted my hair straitened at the last minute, they were even willing to call the next client and let them know that Carmen was running late. I am finding that this is usually how it is everywhere...but cash tips only, so be sure you have enough for your hair dresser, an assistant and the shampoo person. Thank goodness for Aja and her hair sorcery! I had originally planned on seeing Aja when I first moved to Virginia. Unfortunately, the weather was awful the day I was supposed to see her so I had to cancel. She didn't have any openings for a long time after my cancellation so I went to Bubbles in Herndon by the Harris Teeter to get my blue hair color redyed. The woman I saw at Bubbles didn't even bleach my hair and somehow managed to DESTROY the hair I worked so hard to keep healthy. It was literally breaking off! How somebody can destroy hair with blue Pravana dye, I do not know... But my hair was awful after that. After the Bubbles fiasco, I decided to wait to see Aja no matter how long the wait. Thank goodness I did. It's been a process trying to get my hair healthy again, but she has done wonders to make it better. She's great at working with delicate hair AND fun colors. I'm a fan of wild colors and my hair is very delicate, so somebody like Aja is a godsend. If you're looking for a bad ass hair colorist and stylist, Aja is your gal. The only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is that it can be pricey for those if us who aren't wealthy. I'd rather pay more for a great stylist and keep my hair healthy though! read more

I started coming to PR at Partners because my mom is a fan of the place and loved the way they did her hair. I've seen Eileen for my hair cuts and Shaina for my color for the past few years and I love what they do to my hair! They'll give you tips on how to style your hair and help with with any DRASTIC hair decisions. They both have great personalities! The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because you will have to wait about (usually) 20-25 minutes to sit in a chair - but the service is worth it! read more

I have been seeing Aja at this location for approx 1 year. Prior to her, I had not found anyone in this area who I was particularly attached to. When she initially cut my hair I felt like I got a whole new look. Aja definitely did some things with my hair that I had not expected, and which took me a few days to get used to, but I have never been happier. She has always given me a great cut and color. I always get compliments and she has helped me embrace new looks, without going overboard. I was referred by a friend and I have referred two people to Aja. I love the staff. Winston started cutting my teenage son's hair last year and we are THRILLED with him. He listens and takes his time. Both Aja and Winston are funny, smart, and listen to our needs. I find the receptionists to be a bit curt whenever I call. I imagine that job is tough and low paying, but that is no excuse for poor service. It sets the tone for the entire experience. I think they could invest a little in training and goals for front desk staff but it's worth it because of my fantastic hair!! read more

Jen Renee did an awesome job on my new cut! I was stuck in a rut and needed to freshen up my look while keeping a more professional look. Jen Renee understood what i wanted and gave me a more updated look that is still easy to maintain myself. As for the salon itself, i was in there on a sunday afternoon and they were pretty busy. This was a welcomed change for me; if you are one of 2 or 3 customers in a salon, you know somethings not quite right... Even though they were pretty busy, i didnt have to wait at all and the staff were all professional and attentive. Today was the day when I needed to make an appointment at Haircuttery as a back-up plan because of PR Partners lack of customer service training. I had an appointment with a PR Partners hairdresser at 10:30am. I got a phone call at around 9:30am from PR Partners letting me know that my hairdresser was sick. I get it, things happen. But here's the thing- if folks are making appointments in advance for a service, you'd better do your damndest to make sure your customers come away happy. I was offered a 6:00pm appointment with another hairdresser which I couldn't do. I asked if I could be squeezed in with anyone for a cut- no dice. I will not be returning to PR Partners and won't be recommending them to friends. PR Partners: if you inconvenience a customer, make it right. I walked away unhappy and won't be back. read more

With Aja, I can just relax and not even have to direct her. she knows I am low maintenance hair wise so gives me the appropriate hair cut that suits my super thin, fine and curly hair. I've been getting my hair done with Aja for the last 5 years. Before I started seeing Aja, I didn't have a go-to hair stylist and was longing for one because I had multiple bad experiences in the past. My friend recommended me to her and it's been a match made in heaven! I started out with your typical long Asian black hair cut with layers ranging in from short to long with texture to add depth and volume to my hair. Over time as Aja and I have gotten to know each other, she's made suggestions and helped me define my personal image. Aja has a magical way of taking the image you explain to her and turn you hair up to the next level to compliment your facial features, hair type and individual style. I've had my hair trimmed, cut and styled in diverse ways from long, layered hair like Maggie Q to medium length, edgy, shag like Hayley Williams from Paramore to the angled bob and very short pixie cut like Rihanna. Plus I've had my hair colored and highlighted in a variety of colors ranging from red, blonde, honey brown, blue and purple. And I've LOVED and adapted to each new, special style she's given me. I ONLY TRUST AJA with my hair whether it's coloring or cutting it. Plus she cuts and does wonders to my younger sister's long, thick, wavy hair which is opposite to my very straight, medium-fine, shaggy, pixie cut hair. Salon rating: 4 stars. I've never had a bad experience with any of the other staff at the salon. Overall the staff has always been polite and given me good customer service. Great place to get a haircut from! Since there are a range of stylists, you can choose someone according to your budget! I was really disappointed when they cancelled my appointment twice..once because there was an emergency which the stylist had to attend to and second when I had reached the salon for my appointment (at the time informed) and they said the stylist had left because I was supposed to come an hour earlier! Since they had messed up in giving me the correct time and the earlier cancellation, they offered to accommodate me on the next day for a FREE haircut and a FREE $25 hair treatment! Eva did a great job! I wanted to get bangs but she suggested what would better suit my face and ultimately gave me an awesome look! They do make a lot of effort in knowing your hair and the challenges you face on an everyday basis while styling them and only then suggest a haircut! Overall a good experience! read more

Their stylist Raquel messed up my hair, did not give me what I asked for and charged me for things we did not even talk about. In total I payed $300 for my hair to look extremely ugly. I had called earlier to get an estimate and the price went from $100 to $300?!! That is insane! I understand that the price is never set and it can change but that was a HUGE jump. I usually go get my haircut from Khuong at PR Tysons, but since I live next door to Reston Town Center, Rita is my go to girl when I need something quick and she has never failed to deliver. Sweet lady, very professional and will listen but recommend what she thinks will work better if your idea is something that you saw on a celebrity. Custom tailors it to you face shape, hair type, everything and its that honesty that I respect and keeps me coming back. Agree with the overwhelming consensus of front desk snottiness. Thought this was only at the Tysons locale but it seems like its just about all salons nowadays. Really a shame. I have a friend hairstylist who has her clients book her appointments through her and text her then my stylist calls the front desk to avoid her clients having to have a bad experience with the front desk. Well I've been coming here for years, I've seen quite a few of the stylist Aja has done my color and has killed it!! The last time I had my color done was almost a year ago and people STILL ask where I get my color done! I've never had such a great grow out! I see Shaina for my haircuts ( I've seen her for like 10 years) she always does an amazing job! She is so knowledgeable and really precise! When I want to grow out my hair she makes sure to take off enough to get rid of the yuck but not get all scissor happy like I have had before her. When I want to chop off my hair she does it and it's AMAZING!! I've gone from a bob to hair to my waist with Shaina and everywhere in between! I absolutely love this place!! I used to be the type of person who would jump around from hair stylist to hair stylist every year or so because at some point they'd piss me off and I'd end up not liking my hair cut/color. However, I've been with Jen Renee for the past 5 years now. She is INCREDIBLE. I followed her from the PR at Partners in Chantilly to the one in Reston, because I couldn't imagine anyone else touching my hair. She really takes pride in her work and clearly cares about her customers. She's done everything from dye/highlight to cut off 8 1/2 inches of my hair. After we cut off all of my hair she even helped teach me how to blow dry and style it so it wouldn't look flat. She listens to exactly what I want and is a miracle worker with my fine hair! The salon clean, the staff is friendly and the service is timely. I can only speak for one stylist, Winston, who provided all four services for me. He is professional, enthusiastic and passionate. His love for hair and styling and beauty is evident in his technique and more importantly in the way he treats his clients. I have called 3 times to schedule with Courtney for highlights and bang trim. I walked in 1 time ( ironically they don't know that ) I was Referred by their Wella rep. On Friday April 19, 2019 I finally am able to secure an appointment for Sunday at 10:30 with 3 different people knowing I'm a new client. I was put into their system , told I had an appointment, told my blow out would be with an assistant and I was totally fine with that. On Sunday at 10:10 am I get a call by a receptionist cancelling my appointment because there isn't enough time. I ask to speak to stylist Courtney and she proceeds to tell me that there was a sticky note stating that if she didn't have time to do the bang trim then I wanted to cancel all together!!!! So , I'm beyond angry as I'm going on vacation but the fact that I was referred by a Wella sales professional to this location and I'm telling you that I never would say such things and that I was fine with an assistant blow drying my hair, infuriated me. When does it become the customer that is wrong if they ask for something and pay 250 for it but they don't receive the color they were asking for? I didn't want to make anyone angry and I said I felt bad even sending an email. The manager calls me and says I'm not welcome back anymore. Wow! I had to hang up because she put me in tears. The stylist does such a nice job but I just wanted to understand how to be on the same page as her so that when she finishes I am not left wondering when she was going to cut my hair or when she was going to add the low lights to make the roots blend in better when the blonde grows out like we had discussed. Over 4 hours later I didn't want to make the stylist feel bad or cause a problem but it bothered me enough that I had to send an email. I did not realize that I was causing a problem by wanting to leave a salon with my hair the way I was paying for the outcome to be. What a disgusting manager and I am going to litter this place with bad reviews. I feel sorry for the stylist that works for this woman that felt the need to cause a customer to cry. read more

I'm a simple person that usually does not like to blow dry, curl or style my hair. I'm pretty much a ponytail/bun type of person. I'm usually indecisive about my hair and have had the best stylist. Inhye!! She is so creative with color and hairstyles ....very detail oriented. I decided 2017 was going to be a year of change for me...I found a picture and bowed her. She was very honest on the cut and color and if it would suite my face. She also let me know the steps it would take and the time and # of sessions. I had 2 sessions with her..step 1 highlights and color mount...melting the colors; step 2 the finishing touches are a shade lighter. I've received so many compliments and it has made me curl my hair and care how my looks before leaving the door. (If you make an appt. make sure you take cash for tips. They don't accept tips on credit card and when you make the appt. they don't even tell you this. I had to run out to an ATM to get cash to tip.) I've been at this location with 2 different hair stylists. The first for a haircut was good. Second time I tried a different stylist recommended by a friend who gets haircuts with her. I wanted to get a perm and we first had a consultation. I showed her pictures of my previous big soft curls, we looked at some magazine photos and she knew exactly what I was looking for. I felt comfortable with her. Then the day of my perm. Voilá. I have super tight small curls from the top of my head all the way down. This was NOTHING close to what we discussed and saw in the photos we both looked at. I don't know how she could have gotten this sooooo wrong when she's been a stylist for over 20 years. My hair was Diana Ross style, I am not exaggerating. I was horrified when I first saw it. She kept telling me it would soften and loosen up. Also the haircut was not good. My hair was not cut in layers, it looked choppy and it got very dry from the perm even though I was told it was a more expensive chemical and not so harsh, and it wouldn't dry it. I had to wait at least a month to undo it at another salon and fix the bad haircut as well. After spending over $500 for the bad perm and then to fix it, my hair is much shorter than I wanted and I have to wait a while now to get rid of the still visible tight curls I got at this salon. If a stylist doesn't know how to do a perm, they shouldn't do it then!!! read more

One thing about this place is how they start you off. You first get a form t fill out before your hair appointment. It covers how you usually wear your hair, what you like, what you don't like, would you like a scalp massage, rejuvenation or relaxation, etc. Then your stylist goes through your answers with you. A clever and quick way for your hair stylist to get it right. I've only been twice since I don't live in the area, but I would definitely recommend giving it a shot. I forget what my stylist name was, but will update later with that info. The con of my experience, was that I did not leave the salon with ready-to-go hair, since she did not have time to blow dry or style my hair. read more

I was lucky to get Ismail to do my hair on my first and only visit to this salon. You see, I live in the boonies of Japan where finding a stylist who knows how to deal with fine, thin caucasian hair is pretty much impossible. Therefore I've had my hair cut in ways that would suit the thick, strong hair of the Japanese, but not suitable for my fine hair. I asked for a cut that would be easy to maintain with a minimum of care, as having lived in Asia all my adult life, and being an avid exerciser/swimmer, my hair care knowledge is next to nil. I got a beautiful cut - I venture to say the best haircut of my life! - and Ismail kindly took photos from various angles, per my request, so I could have an example to show the next person who cuts my hair. I asked for instruction on how to care for my hair, surely something anyone else my age (57) would have mastered by now, and I was patiently and uncondescendingly given simple instructions on how to best style and blow dry my hair. I appreciated this kindness and feel very happy to finally have a hair style that I like. In contrast to the generous care I received from Ismail, the lady who gently washed my hair, and the lady who blow dried my hair with tutorial, the receptionist wasn't quite up to the same standard of customer service. Unfortunately, she gave my brother an unrealistic idea of how long it would be until I was finished, which resulted in him having to wait for me for 45 minutes when he could have been doing other things. I went to PR at Partners for the first time today. The appointment started with hot tea and an amazing head massage during the shampoo. Hannah gave me a cut that I love, while totally working within my constraints (namely, that I spend zero time styling my hair). Most stylists would've taken one look at my streaks of gray and pressured me to do color, but she didn't, which I appreciated. I also genuinely had fun talking with her. So I must downgrade my review and I hate to do it because I have been going to Winston Thompson for about 6 months now and he's awesome! Great stylist and great colorist and very affordable AND ADORABLE! Also, the assistants are great as well. So 5 stars all the way. BUT...the bad news about PR is that the receptionists SUCK! I have not dealt with a good one yet. They are disengaged, unconcerned and just flat out rude. EVERY time I have to deal with a receptionist about anything, it's a disappointment. On the phone, they are unprofessional and sound like they are being bothered. Then, trying to get an appointment is like pulling teeth. It's like I have to beg to find something that works for me as the customer. The last one made me feel bad because I wanted an appointment and practically hung up on me when I didn't take the first available appointment she offered. (Yes, Winston is always booked I am finding out). Oh such trouble she had to look it up and schedule me a month out! She wasn't helpful or concerned - just very blah and lame. THIS REVIEW IS STRICTLY ON A RECEPTIONIST/INTERN. I think it's because some of the receptionist are more interns for the hair stylists instead of receptionists, but their customer service is horrendous. One of the girls in particular was pretty bad. I wish I knew her name so it doesn't seem like I'm bashing on all of the receptionists, but unfortunately the service she gave me was so bad that I have to write about it and warn others. First I came in and she let me know that my stylist was running late (no surprise here). She didn't offer a seat or anything. I was just kinda standing there. One of the other receptionist noticed and she sat me down in their limited space and offered me a magazine, which I appreciated. My stylist got to me as soon as she could and started working on my hair. She had great advice and I ended up liking the job she did for me and I wanted to schedule my next appointment for her. I went back to the receptionist to pay and schedule the appointment. She just kinda looked at the computer and glanced my way and just kinda ignored me for a bit and started talking with the other receptionist/intern and then looked at me again. Then she asked if she could help me. I was a little stunned by the lack of customer service. I told her that I needed to pay and schedule a new appointment. She typed away on her computer and then told me the amount. I didn't realize you couldn't place tip on my credit card, so asked where the nearest ATM was. She just pointed in a direction and said it's over there. I waited for her to schedule my appointment, but she kept talking with the girl next to her. When she noticed I was still there, she looked up at me and said, "You're done." Again, completely taken aback, I went to the bank and used the ATM. When I walked back into the Salon, a different receptionist was there, who was very friendly and customer oriented. I think she's the true receptionist. I asked how to tip and she told me how. (They have a system I wasn't familiar with). The previous girl showed up again and then told the receptionist that I needed an appointment and then sheepishly smiled at me. No verbal apology. I'm going back because I like my stylist, but I can pretty much do with the rude, incompetent receptionist/interns. I've been seeing Kristina for several years and have been very happy with my haircuts, plus she is a joy to chat with! I appreciate that she never pressures me to get my hair colored or other services. I don't ever feel rushed even when I can tell they are busy or running behind.
