This is one of those very mediocre places that is too popular due to lack of better options in the city. I went to Canada three weeks ago and tried this place on a co workers recommendation. We are a big family so we bought a lot of stuff including food and sweets. Sweets were the major attraction as we do not have a proper mithai shop in seattle. We got rasmalai, Chena barfi, rasmalai, jalebis, and an assorted box. Yes. We have a sweet tooth. All the mithai is made in oil and not in ghee which is a put off. It did not taste that great. Chena barfi was not good. Kaju barfi felt like some other ingredient mixed in it along with cashews. Among everything we had, rasmalai was the only one I liked. Their food was better than the sweets. We had pyaaz kachoris, paneer pakora and chola bhatoora. The pyaaz kachori was my absolute fav and if I go to this restaurant again, it would only be for that :). A decent place to shop for sweets, especially during holiday but there is definitely a lot of room for them to improve. For a shop that operates at this scale, I was very disappointed by their sweets. read more

So happy to finally visit this place. Had heard so much about it, especially for their sweets. Everything we ordered was mouth watering, and the flavors brought back our childhood memories. On the savory side we had the samosa chaat plate. It had two huge, perfectly stuffed and fried samosas, and the Chanas were so delicious as well. Super filling and absolutely lip smacking. For sweets, we had the rasmalai, malai chap and badam kali. Excellent. Mind blowing. What we get in India is even better, but this is as close to the real stuff as it can get in North America. The textures were perfect, rasmalai was soft, spongy and fresh. The milk in the rasmalai was thick and creamy, perfect amount of sweetness. The flavor could be slightly improved by putting a little less elaichi and a little more saffron and pistachios. However, that could be personal preference and is also something I was easily able to fix at home, so it's still the perfect rasmalai for me. The malai chap was so good I would eat it every day if not for the calories. Loved it. Will be taking lots of this food back home in Seattle every time I cross the border. read more

Stopped by here to pick up some sweets while we were visiting Surrey. This must be a really popular place since there was a long line and wait even on a weekday. Got the khoa barfi, jilebi, motichoor laddu and milk badam. The badam milk was sublime! So tasty and refreshing with generous nuts in it. It was so good that we finished it all up on the drive back home to Seattle. The Jilebis were really good, specially when warmed up a little. The khoa barfi was good too, could say with certainty that it was freshly made. We dint care much for the motichoor though, it was lacking flavor. I have been a loyal Prabhu customer ever since it started. From my home in Coquitlam the return trip is more than 40km which I do not mind because it is worth their sweets. Every Holi I look forward to their Gujiyas. However, this year the Gujiyas are a huge disappointment. It did not taste or look anything like the previous years. The stuffing is awful with the added food perfume. I brought three boxes of ten. I called them and I wanted to return at least one box which was not open, and the staff said to call back in the evening when the owner comes. Tuesdays they are closed. This was inconvenient for me. There is a price hike as well. Now it costs $2.50 per piece for a substandard product. Sorry Prabhu, I did not expect that from your store. read more

This sweet shop is really popular not just locally but around the lower mainland and even the states. There is almost always a line up to the door but I feel line ups are inevitable given the small space. They started mass producing so you can get Prabu ras malai at the local grocery store now. I find that ever since then the quality of sweets has also gone down. I used to love their ras malai, but it's just the not same anymore. Regardless, whenever we visit relatives we bring a box of Prabu sweets. Cause the name is more important than the quality now. read more

I used to think it was just another case of racial rudeness a caucasian may receive from time to time in this particular area of Surrey, but no, I have witnessed the rudeness directed to their Indian customers as well. Even when there's no rudeness there is an overall demeanor from the employees that gives you this feeling that you shouldn't want to buy anything in their shop. I normally would give this place a great rating. Drove all the way from Vancouver to get items from here. however after spending over $50 on sweets from here I came home to find the box stacked the wrong way the the wet items not separated from the dry. I called to speak to the owner and the lady who served me actually picked up the phone. She was rude and took no responsibility for-the way she placed the box in the bag and argued that I never asked for the items to be separated (which I did). Last time I checked it's normally their job to do this especially at the rate they are charging . Really disappointing at the way a loyal customer has been treated, won't be going back ....... they need to train their staff better or get new ones #frustrated read more

My parents swear by this place for their Indian sweets needs. They live far from here and in the middle of no where, almost. So whenever they come to visit, they always bring back a whole bunch of boxes of sweets from here to give to all their Indian friends back home, and for my aunts and uncles here in town. My favorites are probably the little log rolls with the orange in the middle made out of cashews (I think). They were also sold out like crazy for Diwali. One of the best places in Vancouver for Indian Sweets and Samosas. A rare place that would start frying Samosas after you order which warrants for freshness and some possible delays. First off, the service is just terrible. Don't expect a "hello" and don't expect a "smile." We stopped by on our way back to Seattle because we'd heard so much about this place. We found their food to be mediocre compared to other places in Surrey. I ordered 20 samosas and they gave me 1 small container of chutney which was enough for 3-5 samosas MAYBE. I have been to numerous Indian sweet shops and Prabhu Sweets, by far, has the worst customer service. The owner is unable to deal with incapable and rude staff. Neetu, in particular, needs to be fired. She is arrogant and has consistently shown her inability to be even remotely pleasant. Customers generally purchase sweets for a happy occasions, and a smile and pleasant demeanor from Prabhu's staff as a sign of appreciation for the business is not too much to ask. read more

Best Indian sweets we have had so far in B.C. People visiting from India have commented that their sweets are better than back home...enuf said. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is because of service. It is an extremely small store and even if their are only 4 customers it results in a line up. The people behind the counter lack customer service skills (as in you should break out a smile once in a while). We understand that the product is amazing but that does not mean that a business should skimp on service. I brought back several boxes to give to my coworkers on the East Coast in the US. Several of them asked if they can mail order these. Ha! Of course not. This is our favorite sweet shop. First it is 100% vegetarian. Second it is very clean. Third the people are very friendly and welcoming. I bring my two granddaughters here when they visit. Their favorite is the jelabie an incredibly sweet orange confection. One day when we arrived after their normal closing time the owner went in the back and got some for the girls and gave it to them for no charge. Yes the place is really busy and you may have to wait for your fresh samosas but they are well worth the wait. We are in the minority in this popular Indian sweet shop but all the patrons and the owners are very friendly to us. There is also a very orderly process to getting served. You don't need a number. Everyone seems to know who's next. Also even if you have no idea what you want they will take the time to explain the various delights. read more

I visit this place often and buy a lot of different sweets whenever I miss my hometown a lot. It's such a cheaper way to re-live my childhood vs getting on the plane and let's not forget the jet leg and swollen feet. everything is super fresh and price is damn decent too instead of a arm and a leg. I have heard from someone that they actually have really good halwai ( Indian sweet' chef) who they literally imported from India. One of my favourite thing I must mention is 99.9% employees front of the store to kitchen are all women, kuddos to the women's power and taste in their hands. And the second fav is that they sell all the special sweets for special festivals and occasions like finni for karwachauth; etc. Do you like khoya doodh hmmmm get that and also the jalebi and when you get home heat up the jalebi in toaster and dunk-dip/sip and eat with the badam doodh(almond-pistachio milk) And make sure you sweat it out too the same day if possible else next day. Also when you get in the car dnt forget to bite at least one of the samosa before you start driving. That piping hot delicious treat in the parking lot is mandatory. Just remember to have tissue/ napkins on lap before the dipping and doings. Enjoy the treats. read more

Sweets are great, but man have the samosay gone down hill lately. Our family has been buying Prabu's samosas and sweets once every 1-2 months since they opened (?10 years ago), and have been loyal customers to them until lately. Not only have samosas become obviously smaller, but the last two times we bought them, the filling was not the proper texture (i.e. diced potato with good seasoning)-- instead, the potatoes were basically mashed. Totally puréed. ANd overseasoned with way way too much turmeric, and not nearly enough masala. None of the five of us even finished one samosa each, and we ended up chucking out the 10 that remained. The second time this happened was enough to make us change things up and go back to other local sweet shops for our samosas and now sweets too. I know they've expanded out into local grocery stores which is awesome for them, but we hate to see the initial quality that brought the business to where it is today, go down hill maybe as a consequence. read more

I go here for the gulab jaman and samosas, both I think are great. Don't care so much for the sweets I've tried, but it could just be Indian sweets in general as opposed to how they make them. I'm not Indian and have never had a problem with the service, though I usually end up there when it is not busy. read more

Prabu Sweets is the best for all of their sweets (Laddoos are the best) and their pakoras. The issue is that they offer other items there that aren't as appetizing. Their samosas are too spicy and lack other flavour, and their Chana Masala used to be good but have morphed into a disgusting dish now. Again, the restaurant doesn't deserve a low grade because of what they do so well, so I'll give them a 4, but fixing a couple of things would make them the best Indian shop in town hands down. read more
