About two months ago I brought two jackets in to be dry cleaned and zippers replaced. On my jacket the lady said I bet your jacket zipper just needs some lubricants on it. So she tried that and the zipper seemed to work but I asked her to please let the professional check the zipper first to ensure it's going to be okay as winter is coming. I pick up the jackets about two weeks later. My husband's jacket was fixed - great! I go to wear mine and the zipper is completely broken. So this is disappointing. For one the lubricants did not work and two, the seamstress clearly did not check the jacket. Probably no fault to the seamstress. So I take the jacket back. I told them "hey the jacket needs a new gold colored zipper". I write down gold colored zipper, the lady makes a note of this ( the jacket has gold colored hardware). She says it's going to be about six weeks. Okay great. They call saying the jacket is ready. I go to pick it up, six weeks later, and they put a black zipper on the jacket. If they did not have a gold colored zipper than you call and ask me first if it's okay to put on a black zipper. You don't just proceed to do something that ruins the aesthetic of the jacket. I asked why this happened and a very kind lady explained that zippers are hard to come by since Covid. That's understandable. However after a quick search on Google, I noticed quickly you can buy gold zippers for $8 bucks. So I am very disappointed. I will call back Monday to see if they can fix this or give me my money back. Based on how they handle this... I'll update the review. For now I have been disappointed twice in a row and likely won't ever be back. Also, there is one young lady who works there who is anything but friendly and welcoming. I was extremely impressed with my wedding dress cleaning and preservation at Pratt Abbott Forest Ave.! This location was recommended to me by a friend, who lives out of state but drove nearly 3 hours to this location to get her wedding dress cleaned and preserved last year. After my wedding, I took her recommendation and used them to take care of my dress (I'm local!) It took about two months for my dress to be complete, but I was very impressed with the process from start to finish (and the staff I worked with!)  A couple weeks after I picked up my dress, I received a card from Angela, the Garment Care Coordinator, with a thank-you note congratulating me on my wedding and a $30 gift card for any future service. I felt confident knowing my dress was in good hands and am so happy that my dress is finally home safe! I highly recommend this location for any of your wedding dress cleaning and preservation needs. read more

This is a toxic company. I had an issue that was brought to attention of the driver, they were defensive and took no responsibility for the problem. Contacted a manager and they were very aggressive and also provided no solutions. Contact the President/Owner with no response. Please do not give them your business. For a customer service organization they do not understand that concept. Vote with your wallet. read more

I have used Pratt Abbot to launder and press my dress shirts twice now and it's been a major mistake each time. Ruined collars, terrible creases, wrinkled sleeves, you name it, my shirts come back looking worse than they did when I dropped them off. I will not entrust this company to handle any of my clothing again. I recommend that the owners review the individuals operating their presses and begin reviewing the quality of their output. read more

I have taken my dresses to be dry cleaned by them several times and each time they have done a fabulous job on them. The stains are removed, the quality isn't compromised, and it all complete in good time. I am happy with their services and will continue to use them in the future too. Appalling services: They have ruined two garments in the past year. The first was last holiday season when an employee ripped a hole in slacks of a lambs wool suit and did not report it. This was not a tear, it was a quarter-sized hole in which the material was removed from the pants. After a getting to the root of it and them finally acknowledging their mistake, Pratt Abbott replaced the suit and made good on the incident. Because of this, I returned to their company for the dry-cleaning of more garments. This most recent time is truly the most upsetting. I brought in two silk dresses, both of the same make and manufacturer. When I picked them up, one was perfect, the other dress had streaks all over it. I had it redone and upon pick up the streaks were still there. After a third time, I spoke with a manager who claimed it was to be sent out for analysis to see whether the dress was damaged by them. They NEVER sent the dress out for analysis and returned my calls telling me they were not at fault for the damage on the silk dress. This dress was in perfect condition when it came in to them and was DAMAGED when it came back. Pratt Abbott claims that the dry-cleaning process cannot damage the dress, but it did. Instead of resolving the issue, they have passed the blame on the manufacturer and only will reimburse me for the $17.00 dry-clean that ruined $225 silk dress. Pratt Abbott is a terrible company for your delicate or expensive clothing in need of dry-cleaning. They will not take ownership of their mistakes easily, let alone stand by their work. They consistently want to blame the customer for misuse of the garment so that they do not have to pay for replacements. If these two incidents are a fluke, thenI just so happened to be struck by lightening twice... IN A ROW. I do not recommend this company for any dry-cleaning needs. read more

The other reviewer must be smoking crack or is living under a rock. Pratt Abbott is basically a monopoly in the Portland area and it shows. Their prices are way out of whack with the rest of the industry and their alterations are terrible. I had to bring my suit back three times to have them pin the sleeves properly, I have never had so many problems with a tailor before. I have since found Kim's alterations in south portland, they do a fantastic job at a lower price. Having lived in the NY area for many years I got used to the pricing there, where a shirt costs $1-1.50 to get dry cleaned. The prices at Pratt Abbott are around $3 for a shirt and the cost to clean a suit is outrageous. I am still looking for a better dry cleaner thankfully I have found a better tailor. This is why we need competition in the marketplace. If I had some extra cash I would open a Zoots franchise in Portland. read more

I had them clean my wedding dress before my wedding. I live five hours away and asked for it to be ready by a certain date, which they said they could manage. I arranged a day trip into Portland and went to pick it up. When I got there, they first said they couldn't find it! Eventually it was found but wasn't ready. They then asked if I could come back on Monday, even knowing that I lived 5 hours away. Eventually, I had to take my wedding dress, even though there was still a spot on it. They still had me pay full pop. I won't be going back there. read more

This is an update to my 6/26 review. I never got my promised call telling me tgat my irder was ready. I called this location on July 3 to check. Was told it would be ready today, so my husband went to pick it up. The missing item? They destroyed it by leaving a pen in tbe pocket of another item cleaned in the same batch. Pratt Abbott ruined my husband's Brooks Brothers suit. They claimed the damage was my fault because the suit was too old (10 years), and then gave me nothing but a store credit on the cleaning charge as a remedy. They refused to refund the cleaning charge to my credit card bill. I will never bring another garment to Pratt Abbott, and I suggest that everyone find somewhere else to get their dry cleaning done. read more

no! Dropped prom dress off to be altered and there it sat for over a week! They could not do it and did not even have the smarts to call me so I would have time to find another place to have it done. These guys are the absolute worst. Brought in a floor-length bridesmaid dress for a simple hem, had it fitted and pinned while there, and when I got the dress back the hem was 3 inches too short and crooked. The seamstress did not leave any fabric to take the hem back down, so Pratt Abbott ruined a brand-new garment. There is no way to repair the damage to the dress, so any reasonable business would offer a refund at that point. Not these guys. When I called to complain, I was told that I would have to relinquish the dress to them before they would consider giving me a refund which was 1. inconvenient, as I do not live close by, 2. impossible, as I would not be able to get a new bridesmaid dress in time for the wedding, and 3. unnecessary, when I emailed a manager plenty of photographic evidence for them to process a claim. They refused to even agree to a partial refund, so there's $75 down the drain. Stay far, far away from these crooks. read more
