Anyone that knows anything about birds knows that birds and strong janitorial chemicals can be a deadly mix. Birds frequently die from strong smelling cleaners. They have very sensitive respiratory systems. I went to Pratt's to look at bird cages and one of the staff was mopping the floor with a very strongly scented floor cleaner. I spoke to the gal doing the mopping and she said to me "You mean it's not OK to mop the floor with PineSol around birds?" I informed her that, no, it is not OK. To which she replied "I'm just using what THEY told me to use." I can't believe the owners don't know better. It would certainly be acceptable to buy pet food here, but think twice about buying a bird. read more

I cannot fathom how this place is still in business. The place is filthy, animals are in dirty cages cramped and smashed all together. One of the ducklings looked like it had a broken wing as was still being stepped on. I dislike that anyone can touch the animals, and grab rabbits and chicks with rough hands when they're obviously trying to get away. So many people can just walk in and grab these animals with uncaring hands and not a clue how to handle them. There were children grabbing rabbits by the ears, pulling on them and poking baby chicks, the employees didn't seem to care at all. There were also two pigeons in a super small cage to where they couldn't even turn around or spread their wings. Clearly this business is just about profit; and they don't care about the animals since they're in these conditions and selling to people who definitely can't take care of them. I literally saw some a-hole put a LIVE RABBIT , in the trunk of his car in the 115 degree heat and walk back inside. How can they sell animals to these incompetent people??? And I don't understand how this place is still in business with how little they care about the animals. And clearly I'm not the only person who has witnessed this as there are multiple reviews in the "not recommended" section all about cruelty and employees. read more

TERRIBLE!!!!!! Little cages for large quantities of animals!!!! And watching them handle their animals is heart wrenching! DO NOT contribute to them! THIS PLACE IS HORID!!!!!!!! How is it still in business???? Iv'e never written a bad review for anything, but this place is worth complaining about. First, their cages are WAYYY too small. They have adult bunnies, baby bunnies (not retaliated to adult bunnies) and guinea pigs all horribly cramped in the same cage. I've gone there twice because I couldn't believe what I saw the first time.Their water is always filthy and I've never seen a strand of hay once in any of the rodents enclosures. My friend and I personally refilled most of the animal's water bowls because it was so filthy. Even the ducks there are only given water three times a day because they, "waste water." They're ducks people! All of the rodents nails were over grown and I held four bunnies and I could feel all of their bones. I even bought a baby chicken from that store just to save it's life, because he was lying on it's back being stepped on by all the other baby chickens. I hated to give them money they definitely don't deserve but I couldn't watch that animal die. Later that day I discovered he had hemorrhoids, this chick was only a week old. There is only one employee that isn't a complete jerk; the woman that gave me the chicken told me he had no chance of living and that birds are stupid anyways. I love this place. I bought 3 chickens here; Baby Girl, Caramel and AnnaBelle. Happy, healthy and living in a full size chicken coop in my backyard (ps, don't tell the city) I actually got one of the guys over at Pratt's to build me the coop and deliver it for an insanely low price. E and I go there on weekends just to wander around and play with the baby chicks, the bunnies, the pigs, the puppies, whatever they have at the time. It's like a mini farm in the downtown Glendale area...I love it! read more

I only frequent this store because they carry my brand of food for both dogs and cats: Taste of the Wild (a high protein- no filler food). When I first arrived here my dog was in desperate need of a nail trim and did not have a current rabies vaccination. The person working the register recommended I contact the other Pratt's location and they were able to take my dog that afternoon. read more

Love this place. Always have experienced good customer service, and been happy with all of my purchases. This place is just awesome to walk around also, they have baby chicks, rabbits, ducks, turkeys, other exotic birds, reptiles... i also find the prices to be fair. I am the owner of 1 cat, 2 dogs, 2 rabbits, 2 chickens. Both of my rabbits and chickens were purchased at Pratt's. Also why would you go to Petsmart or Petco when you could be supporting your local economy and shopping local! read more

We went to Pratt's as I had heard it was a good place to go buy chickens from. I have to say, it was fun bringing my 4 year old daughter with me as they had quite a few other types of animals to see and she had a blast in the store. Since this was my first chicken purchase, I was a bit confused on what kind of chickens to buy, but I have to say, that the sales guy was awesome. I wish I could remember his name as he was very helpful and informative. I read some of the other reviews on here before posting and noticed a mixture of bad and good. I didn't experience any of the bad but I know sometimes that comes with the person you work with in the stores.. I will be using them again. read more

I love it there!!!! I get to pet all the little bunnies and guinea pigs! They have very cute lizards, cats, rodents etc. the animals seem happy but there is a scary chicken there, he walks around like he is the boss...the parking is awful they didn't let me pet the ferrets because they were teething but otherwise this place is great! read more

I went there to look for chickens and supplies as we are getting started on our own back yard flock. I found the animals outside in great distress from the heat. In one of the chicken pens, there was one dying in the food container. One of the young employees was carrying two doves or pigeons out to a pen and was holding them in a manner that seemed very stressful for the birds. When he got to the cage, he just threw them in. I was not comfortable buying anything from this store. The parking is challenging as well. read more

I have never written a review for a place, but I felt so strongly, I had to for this place. I made a call to the store asking how much a bag of Innova Evo Turkey and Chicken cost. In which the girl replied, "Chicken feed?" This tells me they have no real knowledge of products. So, I give her more information about what the product is, she puts me on hold, and when she answers again, she lists me all the prices of all the bag sizes. I thank her for her help and decline buying the bag I needed from the pet feed store I was at in that moment, since the prices she gave me fit my budget better. I go to the Pratts store and the whole dog food section is due for cleaning. I understand Tuesday afternoon may be a slow time, but they made no accommodations in moving or offering to get what I was looking for. After awkwardly sidestepping the two individuals in the front, I moved back and tried to Eagle scan from a distance. Not seeing what I was there for, I went to the check out station to wait with another guest. The young man washing the floor, finally took notice of the two of us at the front. The man before me, was also trying to purchase a bag of dog food and the young man treated him, in my opinion, rudely. The man asked what size bags there were, and the young man behind the counter, rattled them off with an air of annoyance. When it was finally my turn to ask about the dog food, he replied with, "What is that?! I've never even heard of it." He walkies over and someone on the other side, whom I assume was the girl of my next encounter, told him that they don't carry it, that there were too many recalls. I annoyed, asked to speak with a manager. A girl came out of the isle of dog food they were spraying down, she did not look much older than the young man behind the counter. I simply told her how unhelpful the customer service was, and I, working in the customer service industry, suggested to her, that when guests call asking for prices, they should be informed on whether or not it is carried in the store. She proceeded to tell me, "Well, if you had just asked if it was in stock, we could have told you." Her demeanor was that of, well, it's your fault you didn't ask the right question. I tried to explain my position and that was all she held to, "You should have just asked if we carried it." She kept repeating that it was recalled several times, and that I may be able to find it at Petsmart. I know for a fact that Petsmart doesn't carry it, so she again was willing to send me on a trip without proper verification. I knew where to find it, as several premium pet shops carry the brand, but I went out on a limb and thought I could purchase it from her store at a better price. This may be a rant, but it was completely out of line, in my opinion, to respond the way she did. Instead of apologizing and taking advice, she fueled my annoyance, and escalated the situation. One that could have been quelled and put to rest with ease. When someone calls asking about a price, *I* would assume the person is going to come purchase it. When you put someone on hold to find the prices, if you had to look them up on the computer because they weren't on the shelf, that is helpful information-- which being helpful is her job. And being the assistant manager, it was extremely disappointing that her conduct was what I could have expected from the young man who looked like he was still in high school. Time and time again, Pratts seems to hire employees that have no basic customer service skills. This is not my first run in with rude employees, but this experience took the cake. The place seemed alright considering the overall nature of pet stores; small cages and "habitats" that were semi-clean. A care free work place with employees who didn't know much about a ferret I purchased. I've owned many ferrets and this one pulled my heartstrings. In the cage by itself waiting for a home, unclean cage that was 3 times taller than it was wider, it was a rat's cage...I continue to ask questions as I try to see the little guy move around. Yes, ferrets drag their feet and crawl more than walk it seems. This one was boney, and probably slightly underweight for the supposed age that I assumed. They told me about 1 year old. I decide to give the little guy a home now and just pay for him. Later, after further inspections from me and a small pet vet; he was more likely 2-3 years old, if not much much older (I just watched my ferret die of old age, and he seems like that one). He doesn't have ANY spunkiness that a normal healthy ferret would have ( hence the suspician of age). After a good cleaning, I see that he also has a corneal ulcer (long ago healed up naturally most likely) on his eye. The bottom line is, when a customer starts asking questions about the ferret and you can not provide proof of ANYTHING, you should probably tell the customer... I don't know, the truth... I later called and questioned more dissatisfied and pissed off. Turns out, they accept adoptions from other people; as in this was not a ferret from the breeder direct as I originally thought and was well... led to believe this through a chain of ignorant employees. Only the managers know this I guess, who also later told me that she couldn't inspect each and every animal that comes in... with the 5 plus employees they probably have at all times, and the "few" pets they do have. So we have: Ignorant employees that may lie, whether they know it or not. Crummy conditions for THIS ferret in particular, prob waiting for him to die, and further inspections would probably say the same about the other pets at times. People who drop off their pets and are sold full price as if from breeder Overall, there are WAY better pet stores out there and I think we need to look a little harder so ones like these actually shape up their operation or shut down. read more

This is absolutely the WORST business I've even dealt with. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM! After multiple questions, the employees were not competent nor did they answer specific questions about city ordinances. They lied about specific information which caused us to have to return 5 chickens (one disease ridden and dead just days after purchase - my guess is because they have hundreds of birds crammed into a very tight and non-livable space) and multiple items such as pine shavings, food, cages, etc. After returning them to the store because of a mandated city ordinance (the ordinance they lied about to begin with), they made us aware that they would not accept the return, even with a receipt and after only 4 days. When I spoke with the assistant manager (Daniel) of the store about the issues over the phone, he proceeded to just hand back the phone while I was in the middle of our conversation. He has been extremely RUDE and refused to talk with me or my wife about these issues. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, do business with this incompetent and unethical business. read more

If you care about animals, people, please DO NOT support Pratt's! If you ever go there look at how they treat their baby chicks! I was there two months ago and it was pathetic. Countless chicks had pasty butt, which will kill them if it is not removed. I brought this to the attention of an employee there who curtly responded "oh we take care of it." That was a blatant lie. The chicks I saw could not possibly of been recently cleaned with as much poop that was stuck to them. There is NO excuse for that. If those chicks were being regularly cleaned, there would not be large balls of poop on them. I also noticed many of the chicks did not look well and some appeared to be dying. I again brought this to the same employees attention and she took her hand and bumped one of the chicks that was ill looking startling it to open it's eyes, to which she said "oh he was fine a little while ago." It was obvious that was another lie. There were many chicks in the same sickly looking condition. In was to find out that the disease they had was coccidosis, which is a highly contagious and deadly chick disease. For them to be selling the public sick animals should be illegal! It is apparent they do not have a conscience or care about their animals as they claim. As if that was not bad enough, walk out to the outside area behind their store in the summer and see all the suffering poultry in the heat. I observed a pathetic sight of sprawled out chickens in a circle around a bowl of water. All Pratt's has for those birds and the other animals they keep out there are misters. The misters are too high for the chickens and from what I observed, the wind blew the mist elsewhere but on them. Chickens are very heat sensitive and cannot tolerate it and will die from it. How Pratt's can year after year subject those poor birds to our extreme heat in Phoenix, allowing them to suffer, is beyond me! How they get away with it is beyond me! But if you continue to support these people by patronizing their stores, you are only contributing to the problem and nothing will be done about it. If you see something there that does not look right, report it to someone, the ASPCA or Humane Society. That is the only way we are going to make Pratt's listen and end their cruel practices. By the way, this is not just something new, I have observed these same things going on, over the past years. If we don't speak up and make complaints to the ASPCA or Humane Society or whoever else can help, Nothing will change and animals will continue to suffer year after year. Please help! I feel I should review this "pet store" as only one other person has. I went to pratts looking for a variety of things as I have a variety of animals. I just moved to the area and wanted to give a family owned business a shot before the inevitable Petsmart/Petco. First if all, the staff was all too busy trying to not help me that I actually had to track employees down 3 times to ask questions. They ran away so fast when I was done with one question I couldn't even get out all my questions. I was looking for aquarium rock and they had nothing. No baby chicks to speak of, and only one sad lonely goat. I couldn't believe how terrible the service was and the selection was just as bad. I will be driving into wickenburg for my feed store needs. read more

I live very near to Pratt's, and I've been going there since I was a kid. Sadly, over the last few years I've watched this place go downhill. Are they doing worse, or am I just learning more about PROPER care of animals? Dunno. Many other people like this place. I have no use for it. There are many better places with healthier animals and better prices. Their birds and livestock appear to be in okay condition. Their "small animals" (rodents) are hit-or-miss. Last summer, they had a bunch of guinea pigs with weird crust on their ears. Just two weeks ago they had a bunch of hamsters together in one cage of both sexes, which means a bunch of kids probably paid for one hamster and a few weeks later had nine or so... They sometimes have really expensive puppies. Woo... go to a shelter. I was shocked by their reptiles. Selection was small, and their tortoises seemed to be the only healthy reptiles. Every other reptile showed signs of dehydration and shedding problems due to inappropriate humidity (read: not taken care of by someone who knows how). Their ball pythons seemed particularly skinny, and I couldn't tell if all the leopard geckos were alive. Don't even get me started on the corn snakes of different ages and sizes shoved into one small tank together... And then there was the smell. It was awful, and I'd never experienced that there in years past. Smelled like they hadn't cleaned poopy cages in weeks. The reptile room was a nightmare! Granted, animals don't always smell great, but no legitimate pet retailer should smell that bad. Parking also sucks. I wouldn't recommend this place any more. Not when the other options are so much better. read more

My first time at Pratts today as it is far from my home. I came in to look at possibly buying Chickens or Peafowl. The animals where kept in large roomy cages, clean well kept, the ones outside had shade covers. All animals looked healthy and happy. I bought feed today and want to thank the staff and the manager, don't remember his name! They where very nice and did not rush me out even after closing time. They helped me find what I came for, carried out the heavy loads and loaded in my car. THANK YOU for the excellent service, I will be back!
