It was constructed as a "lifesaver" after the Johnstown Flood of May 31, 1889, the Incline has more than lived up to its original lifesaving purpose. I read that flood waters again swept through the Conemaugh and Stonycreek Valleys on March 17, 1936 and July 20, 1977. During both floods, the Incline carried men, women, children and vehicles to safety and help. It is one of the longest and steepest hoists in the world and one of the few transportation systems of its kind still in existence and has its place in the Guinness Book of Records as "The steepest vehicular inclined plane in the world." The incline is closed for refurbishments set to be completed in Spring 2023. We were thrilled to see a large American flag flying above the incline. The flagpole is 125 feet tall and is on the highest point above the valley. I am sure that this flag can be seen for miles.

I want to also tell u how much I enjoyed listening to Sydney Petro as the song leader this Sunday and a couple weeks ago. She has a very beautiful voice. I also want to say I enjoyed listening to Anastazia Hall playing trumpet. She is very good at it. I also still have the January Catholic Register with a write up about her in that devastating fire, but I'm glad she still has her cat Lucy, I have a boxer named Lucy in my family. Anyway I'm glad to enjoy your TV masses each Sunday during these difficult times. I hope to tune in for a few more weeks before I go back to my church for public masses. This one is near the hospitals in the area and you would assume that would mean a better experience, but it was anything but. Inside is a mess. I am not sure what this was prior to it being a Dollar General, but I am fairly sure it had to of been some type of grocery store. If it was indeed that they do not do much to update this place as it looks very rundown and not taken care of in the least. Finding my item and paying was the least of my worries here. I found what I needed, had a minimal wait at the registers, and was on my way. What I did not like was the fact that I felt like I was being watched the whole time I was here. Like I was being evaluated to see if I was worth robbing. I should have parked on the street, but I choose the small parking lot next to the building. I never wanted out of a place faster in my life.
