This review is directed primarily to the makers of LiftMaster, the commercial garage-door opener brand and manufacturer, although I encourage anyone considering a LiftMaster product or installer to read it. I have owned the original LiftMaster garage-door opener in my home since 1998. For nearly 30 years, that opener was an outstanding product--reliable, durable, and virtually flawless. It reminded me of the old AT&T telephones: built like a tank, simple, dependable, and seemingly impossible to destroy. You could drop one repeatedly and it would keep working. That kind of reliability is exactly why, when it finally came time to replace it, I wanted another LiftMaster. Unfortunately, my experience with the company that installs LiftMaster products in my area has been extremely disappointing. The pricing is excessive, and the business model appears to be heavily focused on maximizing profit rather than providing customers with fair value. Before hiring any installer, I strongly recommend doing your homework, reading the reviews, and--most importantly--getting multiple quotes. I made the mistake of assuming that staying with the same manufacturer would also mean receiving the same level of quality and integrity in the installation process. That assumption cost me. The service experience was mechanical, impersonal, and, in my opinion, far too focused on what could be charged rather than what was actually reasonable for the customer. There are undoubtedly local companies capable of providing the same service for far less money, so do not make the mistake I made of assuming that the first company representing the brand is necessarily your best option. To be fair, this review is not directed at the technicians who come to the home. My criticism is directed at the company itself, its pricing practices, its business model, and the way it chooses to treat its customers. LiftMaster built a reputation over decades by producing dependable products. My original opener is proof of that. What concerns me is that a company representing that brand can deliver such a disappointing customer experience and potentially damage the reputation that LiftMaster worked so hard to establish. LiftMaster: you have a great product. Be much more careful about who represents your brand. And to anyone considering an installation: get several quotes, read the reviews, and do not assume that the company associated with the LiftMaster name is automatically the best or most reasonably priced choice. I would give the installation company zero stars if that were an option. I purchased from Precision Garage Doors two openers for our home in November 2025. Yesterday one of the remotes failed to open one of our doors. After replacing the battery, it continued to fail. The doors were not what we expected. They did not offer any option the rectify the concer. The weatherstrip was cut to long and is buckling on 2 of the doors. 1 door leaks water between the panels and the 3rd door is binding and won't shut. They also installed the switches in reverse. A high-quality new one that is more powerful than required for our door costs $189 plus $37 for an extension kit (say $250 including tax). Their installation-only quote of $250 plus $60 service ($310 total) is a little high but within the reasonable range. Brett, the store manager, made me feel like a villain when I was trying to get my deposit refunded ($456) for a cancelled order. Brett told me I was taking food out from his employee's mouths for getting this refund and was shaming me for "being this kind of person," It literally left me in tears. I never signed anything saying that I couldn't be refunded. The lady I was talking to before Brett couldn't even find the fine print that said no refunds, which Brett and the company claimed. They said the door was a special order, which I was never informed of, so they couldn't cancel it and refund me. I was getting a door repaired for a house I was renting and my now ex-landlord (I no longer live there) said we didn't have enough time to repair it before I moved out. I originally ordered the door on February 12th and was quoted a 4-6 week part delivery, I followed up 2 weeks later and the company said they couldn't pick it up until April 15th; my landlord said to not worry about it and just cancel it. I called to cancel on February 29th. Brett told me I should eat the cost, which I cannot afford as a 21 year old living on her own, and ultimately made me feel horrible. I was stuck in the middle as I do not own the house and do not have control over what my ex-landlord does with it. He did end up issuing me a refund but shamed me the entire time.
