I am still in shock, in the best way possible. My garage door wouldn't close on sunny days and I assumed my sensors were old and needed replacing. I replaced the sender side myself, but the receiver side had a bolt that was completely stuck. I got a quote from a handyman for $400 and a second quote from a garage repair service for $350. I was hesitant to commit to either. Then Guy told me it was an easy fix, a five minute job, and he would do it free of charge. Just for the positive brand awareness. I honestly could not believe it. He said he would be at my house within an hour. Every word was true. He arrived in less than an hour, ready to work. What I have to share is that the job was far from simple. The nut was corroded and fused to the bolt. We tried impact drivers. We etched grooves for flathead and Phillips screwdrivers to get more torque. Nothing worked. Guy ended up removing the entire railing and used a Dremel to cut the bolt out. Sparks were literally flying as we cut through metal together. After getting everything cleared, Guy had a brilliant idea. He reversed the position of the sender and receiver so the signal unit would no longer sit at the angle of the sun and distort the signal. He swapped the units, reinstalled every component, and tested everything until it all worked perfectly. What was supposed to be a five minute job turned into over an hour of dedicated, problem solving work. Through all of it, Guy never once mentioned payment. He would not accept a single dollar from me. In a world where it is easy to feel skeptical, Guy reminded me that honest, sincere, and genuinely skilled people still exist. I used the Yelp quote request feature that automatically sent my request to multiple garage door companies, one of them was E.S Garage Doors Inc. Many years ago, when our garage door got a broken spring, I used a contractor who was highly recommended by my neighbors, but I felt being taken advantages as the bill was ridiculously high. Normally garage door repair is a very time sensitive project, so it's hard to take time to negotiate or select a good contractor. For that reason, I used Yelp request feature to get a quote upfront from different contractors. E.S Garage Doors responded quickly and gave me a formula how they calculated their price so that I could have an idea how much it would be. The price they provided seemed reasonable, so I decided to go forward. Within an hour, Daniel of Advanced Garage Door showed up at our door. I am still not sure how E.S. and Advanced are connected, but it looks like other reviewers also mentioned that they had used Advanced or AGD on the page of E.S. Garage Doors, so I guess maybe they are in the same group. As soon as Daniel arrived, he checked the garage door springs and gave me a final price. Upon my approval, Daniel started to work. He was very polite and careful. We still had our car in the garage at that time, and he was very careful when he worked close to our car to make sure that he wouldn't cause any damage on it. It took him near an hour to complete the job. Daniel also found other non-urgent issues on my garage door and the opener. He explained the potential issues and recommended some repairs, but he didn't push me to do right away as he also admitted those issues were not urgent. I will keep those issues in mind to include in my future projects. For the pricing, Daniel was willing to work with me to come up with a good price. The craftsmanship and the materials all came with warranties, so if I later have any issues, I could just call them to fix it for me. E.s (apparently Advanced Garage Doors) replace my 2x garage door torsion springs after one of them broke. Zach was great and answered all of my questions with grace and patience. To be aware of: there are 3 levels of springs w/different duty cycle / durability ratings and, as a result, different warranties. I went for the lowest price, which was rated for 25,000 cycles with a warranty of 1 year parts and 90 days labor. Given the warranty, I'm not sure I trust the 25,000 cycle rating -- which is ~ 16 years udner a 2x per day opening/closing situation -- but I also expect the current 5-star avg. rating for this company speaks to the quality of springs they use. Time will tell, and I was OK with the gamble. The process: I chatted w/David from E.s via Yelp chat, had a free onsite consultation with Zach, and ended up having the work done during the consultation.
