Instead of speculating, Jim sent James out to evaluate our system personally. James spent two hours inspecting everything and discovered the previous company had recommended a massive amount of unnecessary equipment and failed to mention that the actual issues were caused by their own poor installation. Rafael with Mountain States Plumbing came recommended through a Realtor representing the Buyer. I…read morewas selling the home but an inspection revealed a very small leak in a non-pressurized tub drain iron pipe. This was a matter of cutting out approx 18 inches of pipe and replace with a 2" abs pipe and 2 rubber boots. In addition the Buyer requested the sewer be "scoped" to ensure it was in good shape. The repair was very straight forward and I would've done myself but the Buyer requested a licensed plumber. Ching! Ching! I asked Rafael to make the repair and scope. Rafael stated he did not have a camera in his plumbing snake but would take pics with his phone camera to show the condition of plumbing and sewer stack. I was very specific with this request. He acknowledged and agreed. After completed, he only took a few pics but not of the main sewer stack that we requested. He "did" clarify with Buyer that it was an great condition but he did not follow instructions as we requested. He had verbally quoted me between $300-400 total. I agreed. When he completed work after approx 2 hours, I asked what I owed expecting no more than $400. He did not tell me a price until I got an invoice for $700 a week later! He also told the Buyer/Realtor it required a $250-350 hydro cleaning in the kitchen area. This created an expectation with the buyer I was not aware of. When I questioned Rafael over the phone, he said that what it is and if I keep questioning him the price would go up. Really? This did not sit well with us so we did not contract him for anymore services. We also did not like being told overall plumbing was in great shape ALL the way to the street and then told later it required another expense for something he called hydro-jetting in the kitchen which we did not see a need for in our opinion. Bottomline, he may be a competent plumber but we did not like to be quoted one thing($300-400) and then have the final price jump so much to $700 along with a quote for hydro-jetting ($250 to ?) which he did not give us a written quote. If you use MSP, make sure you have your quote in writing along what you're expecting him to do.
