Precision sewer did a excellent job of installing a brand new sewer at our 1906 property and abandoning the old sewer line. They navigated our hard scape to avoid major destruction while giving us an efficient sewer. The only negative I would say Is that the owner is not good at keeping the customer updated on timing of construction or inspection. However, if you can breathe deeply and trust Patrick, things go very well. My compliments to the crew and Patrick. These men came out when I first moved into my home five years ago and completed the required sewer lateral work that needed to be done after you purchase a home in Oakland. They were fast easy to work with and reliable, and Patrick stuck to his word with what was on the invoice. There were no change orders and no surprises. This weekend, some workers that are replacing some windows on the back of my house noticed a leak from the pipe running through the back of the house. I called up Patrick and he sent the same employees from five years ago! These guys noticed the problem, quickly fixed it and it was under the warranty! We called Precision Sewers after receiving a called from our tenant that there was raw sewage outside his unit. Patrick, the owner, has worked for us in years past and we had a very positive experience with him. The current experience was just as positive. Patrick responded immediately and said he or one of his staff would check it out within an hour and call us back. He got back to us within the hour and told us the blockage was on the city side of the sewer line. He had already called the city and said he would be happy to talk to our tenant. Got estimate for a sewer lateral. Took several attempts to get them to send it. The owner, Patrick sounds like he thinks he's doing you a favor by talking to you. I sent the signed contract back and asked him to call me the next day to set a date. Almost a month later he emails me that he's ready to start in a couple of days. I immediately responded that I was not ready as I wanted to coordinate his work with our contractor for a project we started while waiting for him. Days later PGE shows up to mark the gas lines for our work which he said the sewer company is starting right away. I mentioned to the PGE guy that we don't have a final date yet, so he said he's not going to mark anything yet and would tell the sewer company. Patrick then sent me a rude email about what I told PGE and that I should find someone else. Would definitely take a hard pass for hiring him for anything. read more

Arranged for Precision Sewers to come out on a Monday to test my sewer lateral. Someone showed up to do the test but he couldn't find the clean-out. I told him where it was but it must have gotten buried by erosion. He told me he would have to come back on Tuesday with a partner to do the test. On Tuesday, nobody showed up. At the end of the day I called Precision and got Patrick on the line. He promised me that someone would come by on Wednesday to do the inspection but nobody ever showed up. This level of unreliability is very unprofessional. Don't waste your time calling them. read more

I recently bought a home that was 1 year into a 10 year warranty from Precision Sewers who had replaced the sewer lateral. When a plumbing issue came up 3 weeks after our move-in and it looked like it may be sewer related I called Patrick. I was unsure how he would respond given I was not the owner of the home at the time the work was done. My caution was completely unwarranted as he immediately had workers sent to our home. They were extremely professional, polite, and efficient. It turned out the issue wasn't related to the sewer, but there were some issues with the older pipes that may need attention in the future. I appreciate how Patrick explained to me what the issue was and how we should keep an eye on it moving forward. Instead of trying to upsell me on an immediate project using scare tactics he advised that we see if we can make some adjustments and find alternatives to an expensive pipe replacement. Only if it becomes a recurring issue that we can't deal with did he think we should then seriously consider a more intense solution. I hope that day never comes, but if it does I will definitely be giving Patrick a call. He's earned my trust and respect with his great customer service, efficient work, and integrity in doing business. read more

Patrick is a solid and honest plumber. If you want four seasons warm face towel crystals on your chakras then go find a sycophant to massage your ego and be willing to pay for it. He's not that. He's a plumber. He and his crew showed up, banged out a really complicated job at a very reasonable rate and did it on time. His crew is "jolly" as one other reviewer put it. They sang and joked the whole time. It was fun having them around. They also are some of the hardest working dudes I've ever seen and I was a roofer back in the day. I appreciate the direct and minimal communication because I'm worn out with emails, updates, etc....blah blah blah you get from corporate hell. He said yes, they showed up and did the job. Our agent got a quote for sewer lateral replacement from Precision Sewer during the purchase of our home, and the quote was reasonable, so we went ahead with Precision Sewer for the work. The work itself was completed satisfactorily by the team, but I have to give this company 1 star because of the owner's less than satisfactory communication and customer service. The owner - Patrick - was very rude on the phone. After confirming the dates for the work by text, I asked him around what time the work would be completed (since, you know, we couldn't use the toilet until the work was done). He then called me and started to berate me (raising his voice, huffing and puffing on the phone etc) about why I thought the work was going to be completed on day X. Anyway, a simple and pleasant clarification on date and time would have worked, but instead the owner of this company started shouting at a customer - this is the worst customer service I have ever experienced! Patrick's communication was also erratic and not dependable. When I asked him to confirm where I can send the check after the work was done, he responded immediately. But when we came home after day1 of the work and saw mounds of dirt in the yard and on the street and asked for a simple clarification on when the dirt would be removed - no response! We eventually had to call the city of Oakland to get more details on the work and timeline. If your hands are tied and you cannot choose anyone else for your sewer lateral replacement, I would suggest you keep all communication with Patrick to a minimum and use text only, and get details on the project by calling Oakland directly. read more

I did a sewer lateral with this company and they were on time and get the job done no problem. However, the owner sent me an invoice and the next day and demanded a check by end of the week, and when I told him I will mail him a check as most people do. He tried to charge me a $75.00 late fee for not getting the check to him in 48 hours. I work for a property management company and deal with vendors all the time, this is the only time I've seen such ridiculous requests from a vendor about payments. read more

Patrick disconnected my sewer line, then called to say he was going to charge me another $900. I understand that it took his workers longer than expected remove the concrete to get to the sewer and I would have been flexible about paying for extra labor. But, it was super swarmy and dishonest to wait till the sewer was disconnected to raise the price. I pushed back and he threatened to tell his guys to pack up and leave. He was rude, aggressive and belittling. We settled on a slightly less outrageous amount. He continued the job, and disconnected the exterior drainage pipes from the sewer, which I believe is city policy. Then he simply left drainage pipes disconnected and with no outlet so they would back up and seep into my garage. Ha, ha, Patrick. I get it. Joke's on me. read more

I'm giving Patrick and his team two stars because I can only assume that they did a good job on their actual work. Patrick's professionalism, however, was awful and I would warn anyone against using him. As part of the closing terms on our new house, we agreed to have the sewer lateral replaced by the closing date to avoid having to put up a bond with the city. Our realtor recommended Patrick and he told us he could do it by that Thursday (closing was on Friday). Thursday night he called my husband and apologized saying they hadn't been able to get to our house that day. He assured us it would be completed the next day. Friday evening we met with our realtor to get our keys and we all commented on how it didn't look like anything had been done. We called Patrick and he had apparently gotten our job mixed up with another one and had not started on ours. He assured us he would do it Saturday morning. They did not get there until the afternoon. The following Thursday I got an email from him saying he had the paperwork from the city and would like to give that to us and collect payment. I let him know we would be available that weekend at the house, but he said he was going out of town and was only available during the day on Friday. Since we work during the day, we weren't able to meet with him before he went out of town. I didn't hear from him about an alternate time to meet. A week passed without hearing from him again and then I got the following email, "Just found out from my worker that the check was not there on Saturday. He says he went there at 11 and again at 11:30." I apologized saying we were not aware that anyone would be coming by and that we weren't living there yet, but that we would be sure to be there and have a check ready for him if he let us know when someone would be by. He then claimed we had spoken on the phone the previous week to set up a time (this never happened) and then went on to write the following: "I am sorry that the communication between us appears to have gone in the wrong direction. We did this work without receiving a deposit as is our custom. When it comes time to get paid, we have a clause that indicates payment is to be rendered within three days of completion. I don't know why at this point you would find it peculiar if we were to ask for payment as our work was completed a week ago. Missed appointments aside, I have done everything that we promised in our contract and ask that you simply do the same." Whuuh?? His contract specifically listed a deposit of $0.00. And I was fully ready to pay him within the 3-day time period after he completed the job (had the paperwork from the city), but he went out of town and I didn't hear from him until a week later. I don't appreciate the accusation that I was trying to avoid payment when I gave every indication that I intended to pay him - we just needed to find a time to meet up. This whole thing just felt crazy. If he can't keep track of his jobs or who he has or hasn't spoken to, perhaps Patrick shouldn't be the one interacting with customers. read more

We hired Patrick's company to perform sewer lateral work on our home in the Oakland Hills. We had interviewed two other companies for the job and, of the three, Patrick's bid was the lowest. He was also recommended to us. We were very disappointed in the work as the job was not done on time. The work area was left extremely dirty. Damage was done to our newly painted support columns. The ceiling of our breezeway also had significant dirt left on it which stood out against the new paint job. The dirt was a minor issue compared to his upping the bill midway through the job. He stated that his bid was for sewer work from the sidewalk to the city's connection in the street. The other two companies' bids covered sewer work from the house to the city's street connection. He saw the others bids. The code requires that the work be done from the house to the street. How could Patrick think that a bid from the sidewalk to the street would work? Was this his first sewer lateral job? When his new costs were factored in, he came in at par with the other bids, His work crew broke one of our outside light fixtures. He could not find a proper replacement for the fixture and because the fixture had a matching pair on the opposite wall, Patrick bought two new light fixtures. His replacement fixtures were significantly cheaper than the original ones. When I spoke with Patrick at the end of the job, he stated that the only thing left at the jobsite was a metal covering plate in the street. When I visited my home, imagine my surprise to find two wooden boards and an orange cone in my driveway! That does not make a good impression on potential buyers. To leave a place in that condition and think that it was acceptable showed how sloppy he is and how low his standards are. To add insult to injury, we got his email stating that everything was clean at my home. All of this was brought to his attention and he stated he would adjust the bill. He took a long time in doing this and then never sent us a revised bill. When he finally did, he sent an email to our agent selling our home and stated that "the balance was overdue." It was overdue because of the length of time it took him to revise the bill and because he did not deal directly with us. This company is a joke and I am out $6,390. Do NOT use Precision Sewers. The name does not reflect the quality of the work. read more

Before we closed on our house the previous owners had Patrick upgrade the sewer lateral which was supposed to be backed by a 10 year warranty. Eight years later it started leaking through cracks in foundation into our basement. Immediately Patrick warned that he would charge us for anything unrelated to the work he had done several years ago if he started digging and found new problems. I repeatedly asked for a quote to understand what he would charge so I could compare with other recommended plumbers before letting him do more work. Luckily he never gave me an estimate and I got tired of hassling him while sewer water continued to leak into our home. I had to hire someone else to fix it and they found small and poorly installed couplers that are no longer allowed at the sewer connection. Precision Sewers replaced our sewer lateral when we moved into our new home in July. We made an appointment with Patrick to perform a camera inspection and estimate for the work that needed to be done. He called the day of the appointment to let us know that he'd be a half hour late, but arrived punctually to that new time. Within a couple days, he sent us paperwork for his bid to replace the lateral, and we decided to go with him. Booking his crew to replace the lateral proved to be more difficult. I e-mailed him to let him know we'd like to work with him, waited four days for a response, and wrote to him again. He wrote back the next day to say he'd contact me on Monday (two days later) to set up an appointment. I waited over a week, and he never contacted me, so I wrote to him again. He said he'd like to come perform the repair that Wednesday, and I confirmed that that would be fine. I asked him how long the repair would take, when he expected to arrive, and whether we should plan to be home, but he didn't respond. On Wednesday, we weren't sure what to expect, or if Patrick was even coming, so we moved stuff around to free up that day, with only a brief errand to run in the afternoon. I had been disappointed with our communication so far, but I'd already paid him $75 for that initial inspection, and I'd signed a contract and returned it with my first e-mail, so I was committed. Patrick's crew arrived in the morning (Patrick himself wasn't present). We were happy with the crew; they were friendly, efficient, and clear. We were especially pleased that they installed an access point for the sewer outside the house, so nobody will have to get into our tiny crawl space in the future. We hadn't discussed that before that day, and weren't charged extra for it, but it will make work on the sewer a lot more convenient in the future. As far as we know, the work was done quickly and well. Patrick called to tell us that he would handle the inspection with the city the next day and pick up the traffic cones the crew had left behind while he was there. It's been five months and we still have the cones. Hopefully, he just forgot them, but I should probably double-check and make sure the inspection happened. I suspect that Patrick and his crew are good at their work and know that they're doing, but communication was slow and incomplete, which made the experience a somewhat frustrating/nervewracking one. It may have just been a particularly busy time, or maybe all Precision needs is an additional staff person to handle appointments and follow-ups, etc. read more

Patrick helped me to replace a private sewer lateral at my rental property a few years ago. It was job well done. This time, I need it done in my own house. He provided a very reasonable price. The other quote I got was twice as expensive. His crew came, finished the job and arranged for inspection on the same day. It was job well done again. Patrick knows his stuff. I am a happy customer once again. For PSL replacement, I won't go to anybody else. I saw some review complaining job not completed on time. I just want to say, things are not always in contractor's control. If the inspector does not show up as promised, not much a contractor can do. If the concrete does not cure as expected due to wet weather, the orange cone has to be left for a longer time or people will step all over the wet concrete. Always build in some time buffer for surprises in life. Both homeowner and contractor will be happier that way. read more

We had a bad experience working with Patrick, he tested our sewer lateral then didn't follow up with an estimate for replacement when it didn't pass. We had a misunderstanding about the billing for the testing and he sent us an email months after the fact to collect money. We missed the email and a few days after it was sent he shows up at our house unannounced on a Saturday morning. He was angrily trying to collect his money and it was alarming and hostile. There had been a simple misunderstanding that we were quite willing to fix, things did not need to be so unpleasant. Did a good job in terms of job quality and timing. Think they have improved on that since other reviews were written. However, Patrick himself is a bit shady in terms of communicating pricing. There was a problem with our drain being clogged right after they came out and his crew returned to fix and determine if it was a problem with the original work of replacing sewer lateral. They determined it was a separate clog not related to their work but implied they'd fix it regardless. I mentioned how that was great as above and beyond. Next day came out and fixed it and were taking off. Then Patrick called to say it was another $190. Okay with that if he had communicated ahead of time, but not good business to let me think it was gratis given the large ticket lateral replacement and then nickel and dime me after the fact. read more

With a recommendation from our neighbors, we called Patrick at Precision Sewers for a sewer lateral job. We had a couple other places come out for an estimate, but they were all spooked because it was an apparently difficult job...old pipe underneath the entirety of our manicured landscaping back to the junction. He assessed the situation, smiled and said he understood why the other companies walked away, but gave us a very reasonable estimate for a trenchless pipe replacement. He was in no rush to explain the whole situation with me...how they worked, why EBMUD requires the certificate, etc...We were under some time constraints with EBMUD, and he did everything he could to get us in asap. I went on a 5 day work trip and by the time I got back, the work was done and we had a certificate for the lateral job. They apparently dug a few huge holes and broke up concrete to get to the pipe, but by the time I got home it looked like nothing had been done...amazing. Patrick is straight - forward and fast. Very clear about what he won't do and what he will do. So, nobody else would come out --- and the pilot light (I thought) was out on my water heater. Saturday. Many phone calls. Many referrals. Nada. (Why I wanted a plumber to come for what I thought was a pilot light, is another story. ) Then I called Patrick and he showed up in less than 45 minutes. If you are reading this review, it's likely because the city of Berkeley sent you a letter to redo the sewer lateral of your property. The letter also likely had the stiff warning that you'd be charged a fine of $500 a day if you delayed doing the work. Through a personal reference, we called Patrick at Precision Sewers. We also called Pipe Spy. Patrick went to the property the day after I called, promptly emailed me a quote and by end of week the work was complete. Pipe Spy was still trying to figure out the quote. Before doing the work, Patrick needed to run a camera through the system. His charge for this was 1/2 the price quoted by a third plumber I contacted. We have a tenant in our house and she wrote me an email that Patrick took extra care to not get in her way while he was doing the work. I highly recommend this service. read more
