I had several companies give estimates for replacing my lateral sewer line, but Cody stood out right away. I worked with this company for a new sewer lateral. Their estimate was in the middle compared to a few other estimates I got. They brought a large crew with ~7 workers and a very friendly foreman. They put out signs on the street the night before to save the parking spots. It was a well-oiled machine and they finished the job by mid-afternoon. Two wrinkles: first, I asked the foreman to tell me when we had to stop using toilets. But they never notified me. This seemed like a basic thing to nail the timing on. Also, they had to dig in all sorts of different places around the house, and some of the landscaping seems permanently worse as a result of their digging. I know that they had to dig and it wasn't exactly their fault. However, there was never any communication about where they were about to dig. A simple thing I would have liked to do is to take a picture of the area around the holes so that I could try and restore the areas to how it looked originally. I called the office about this and never received a call back about it. So overall professional and efficient, but if you care about how the holes might change things, ask a lot of questions first... read more

Reading reviews it's evident that there aren't many competent, or ethical, companies operating in the area. My circumstances were unique in that there were a couple of high retaining walls to circumvent and a main connector in the street that was around 25 feet below grade. No small task and one company honestly told me they weren't qualified to do the work. This company is punctual, prompt, reliable and highly competent. I was very satisfied with their work. When the owner came out for an estimate, I asked a lot of questions, including how many people work for him and how are they trained. The answer was 40, and he trains them himself. On the appointed day, the owner showed up with several trucks and a dozen workers. They were very friendly, helpful in digging up and replanting my plants, and there was great teamwork. Well trained and competent people, who did not mind that I followed them around and constantly kept asking them what they were doing. I learned a lot in the process about the function of my sewer and watched how to put in a new lateral with wonderfully synchronistic team effort. The work was done within one day. The next day in the early morning a cleanup crew showed up and power washed the sidewalk and street, to eliminate all the marks. In the late morning another team came to put permanent asphalt on the street. I recommend this company highly and will use them in the future if the need arises. Our HOA was required to be compliant with EBMUD and I had quite a few plumbing companies come out to assess and provide estimates to me. over the course of several months, I have dealt with companies who came out and never heard from again, other companies who didn't even assess and just tell me I needed a trench less sewer line, and others who didn't run a camera and just provided an astronomical estimate. After careful consideration, we settled on Streamline. They certainly wasn't the cheapest estimate but at the same token, they were not the highest. However, I liked the fact that they were professional and on time for the estimate. Greg came out and assess the situation carefully with a camera and looked around the property thoroughly. He provided me with two options to either try and run issues as is or provide a brand new sewer lateral line. Considering that we have had the same sewer lateral since they built these units, we opted to be safe and go with a brand new line. They were quick and got the work done within 3 days, waited for the EBMUD person to come and test the lines and sent us a certificate. Then, one and a half months later, we had a backup. So, I called Streamline to see if it was a problem with the sewer lateral and Greg came out the same day to assess the issue. Moving to Castro Valley has a "draw back", as the city has implemented ordinance that any housing transaction resulting in new ownership will require that house to have a new sewer lateral and sewer clean-outs (as of 2019). Overall, it does benefit and protect your investment (your new home), since sewer laterals last about 30 years or so and needs replacing if older than that as you run the risk of the lateral leaking or breaking and all that waste water will go into the ground. The clean-outs will protect your house from any clogs in the lateral or city sewer line backing up waste back into your house. Streamline Plumbing gave us a quick estimate of the costs, and came out to do a quick assessment of what we needed. Since the house we purchased didn't have any clean-outs, it was a given that the lateral was old and needed replacing. With the new sewer lateral and clean-outs, it came out to being $6,800, which was a few hundred less than other places I got quotes from. April whom I was in contact with throughout this whole process handled everything from booking the appointment/time to have the crew come out to do the work to all the required permits and paperwork. Very efficient and the actual work on the lateral and clean-outs took a day (was ~7.5 hours, as the crew was here from 7:30am-3pm including city inspector doing the inspection). The replacement of the cement where the clean-outs were placed was done pretty well, and everything was cleaned (area where they needed to dig up to access the sewer lateral) and replaced properly. I recommend Streamline to anyone in Castro Valley or around neighboring cities that need sewer lateral and clean-out work, as they know what they are doing in an area that many of us new homeowners do not have any experience in. Before this, I didn't even know what sewer laterals and clean-outs were. Streamline was the only one that said that they'd send a rep over right away to send a camera up the line to see what work needs top be done (all others charged for this and said it might take a while). Highly recommended. Streamline did a big sewer lateral replacement job for me in Berkeley (150 feet, including a five foot deep trench across the street to the main). It was done in two days, including pavement replacement. Craig Martin, the owner, and April in his office patiently answered all my questions in the bid phase. Two weeks after I accepted the bid five trucks and twelve men appeared at my door. It looked like the Normandy landing as some worked in the street and others fanned out around the house. The five trucks were carrying a whole array of specialized tools to detect buried pipe, fuse 12 foot lengths of pipe together, open the trench in the street and pressure test the final result. Later in the process dump trucks promptly appeared to remove dirt and fill the street trench with gravel. Everything was marked Streamline - no subcontracting, no scheduling problems. The workmen were clever and adept. The city inspector assured me they had done a good job. When they swept up and left at the end of the second day there was not a single loose end. We were required to get sewer lateral done due to purchase of a new property in Oakland and streamline gave us the lowest quote and were able to get us scheduled within couple weeks. Got the job done in a timely fashion and communicated really well throughout the process. The one feedback I'd recommend is that a day before the scheduled job just let the homeowners know to not use the water so they're prepared ahead of time. They did mention at the time of scheduling but it was my bad that I had forgotten about it by the time the work got started. Here are the things I really like: The owner came out personally and bids the project. They specialize in sewer laterals, and do them every day. Price was very fair and affordable. They had all underground utilities surveyed in advance. They pulled a permit for the work (City of Oakland) and also had EMBUD inspect and certify their work (20 year cert.). They showed up on time, exactly as scheduled, with 2 crews and 3 trucks. They completed the work neatly in one day, including concrete and asphalt patching. the final bill was exactly as quoted, with no add on costs. Streamline replaced part of my sewer line so it would pass the required EBMUD inspection. And it did. But in doing so left me with a exterior waste pipe that now sits off by 15 degrees and looks like crap. I contacted them several times to come fix it and after 3 weeks the owner Greg calls me and leaves a voice mail of pathetic excuses of how and why it's supposed to be like that. It's not, it's just poor workmanship, to lazy to fix their mistake. Yeah my sewer passed inspection but I have to look at their crappy work every time I walk into my house. read more

I contacted 5 companies for bids. The job was about 70 feet of clay pipe, a Y connector at the house's cast iron main line and another Y connection at the back of the property where the main city sewer line ran. There was no sidewalk or street connection to deal with. Pretty straight forward job. Here are the bids: Pelican $6280 Advanced $5950 Pipe Spy $5150 EZ Plumbing Didn't show up for appt. I give Greg and April my highest endorsement of all things I have ever reviewed on Yelp. We knew for some time we would need to replace our sewer later from our cleanout to the middle of the street about 70 feet away. After putting it off for a while, we were finally given no choice when the line started backing up resulting in sewage coming out of the cleanout. I had called a couple of companies long before this, and got a few quotes, but decided to call Streamline after they were recommended by someone I know. Though I did not get a call back on Sunday, April was the first of the companies to call me back on Monday morning. I was anticipating needing to run home from work to meet Greg, but April told me that as long as the work area was accessible, he could go there and generate a quote asap. Within 2 hours I had the quote in my email. I will not announce the exact price as I respect their need to be able to adjust prices for people as circumstances require, but I will say that I paid between $6-$7k. We did have to wait a week for them to commence work as they were pretty tied up at that time, but we were able to utilize our system sparingly while waiting for the work to start. When work did commence, I did not need to be home at all. The crew arrived just after 7am, and wrapped up by 5pm. The only work that had to wait a couple of days was concrete repair as it started to rain late in the day and continued a few days after. The scope of work was pretty straightforward; concrete demo, replacement of two cleanouts, new 4" hdpe pipe between the street main and the cleanout installed via the pipe burst method, and repair of concrete. They also took care of all permits which were included in the original quote. They really made it as stress free on my wife and I who both have regular jobs, and are not able to be home easily whenever things like this happen. What really drives my recommendation up is the fact that they came back recently when we called on them after discovering a leaking drain pipe running from our kitchen to the cleanout that they replaced. I was expecting them to come out to tell me how much it would cost to fix this as it entailed about 30 feet of new pipe with some concrete demo and replacement, and excavation. Greg came out to take a look the next day, and said he would have a crew fix it the next day. It was repaired within 48 hours of us discovering it, and we were not charged for it. Streamline is quick to respond, efficient in their work, help make the situation as stress free as possible, and go the extra mile when it comes to customer relations. Streamline did a great job for us last week. We learned that our 80+ year old sewer line needed to be replaced - all 120 feet of it. After receiving several estimates, we decided to go with Streamline after checking our their Yelp reviews and also contacting some of their reviewers, who confirmed that Streamline is indeed the way to go! They showed up on time, did their work quickly and efficiently, handled the entire permit process with the city of Oakland (yep, you need a permit to do this kind of work) and generally did a terrific job for us. The only part I didn't like - which certainly wasn't Streamline's fault, was having to hand over $843 to the city of Oakland to pay for permits, application fee, inspection fees, etc. WTH is a "technology enhancement fee" and why did it cost me $19?
