Jack intently LISTENED (also a rarity with contractors today) to everything we wanted, patiently answered all our questions, gave us valuable tips and suggestions, and was extremely honest about everything. And he didn't try to up-sell us on anything, which I very much appreciate. He made it clear that he wanted to provide us with exactly what we wanted. Jack came back one more time (promptly) to ensure our measurements and our satisfaction with the proposed deck plan. Then he sent the contract, which broke down everything (labor, materials, etc.) in great detail, giving me peace of mind that there would be no "surprises" along the way. The team started working within a week, and they worked for the entire day! Most contractors, from what I've seen, have several projects going on at once, which means that each project takes longer because they're traveling between different jobs. Not this team. The deck was finished quicker than quoted, and it is beautiful! They left no mess at all, and the workmanship is stellar. The quote was competitively priced. To make myself comfortable, I wrote down the detail of the quote and texted him for confirmation. He confirmed my detail plus stating a 5-year labor warranty, which really closed the deal for me. Because of the impending rain (and cement set for the post), I iterated with him via texts about job date several times. He was patient and gave me confidence that he won't do the work when it rains... I thought we both cared about quality and wanted to minimize re-work. On the job date, his team arrived at 8a with the fence material and completed the work with efficiency. He answered my questions on the completed fence with patience and gave me confidence. I ended up asking him to quote for driveway concrete & breaking down bricks of a flower bed (crack greater than 1/4 inch). Again, he measured and gave me estimates on the spot. (I later texted him with detail to confirm his quote.) He could also do other exterior jobs, which I will definitely keep in mind for future. Overall, great guy and team to work with. He started out doing wonderful work and then everything came to a standstill. Six months have gone by and we have 85% of our deck complete. Phone calls, emails, letters, and text have been ignored, promises broken, and in the end we were forced to hire someone else to finish the project. I have filed complaints with both the Better Business Bureau and the Contractors' State License Board. I am beyond disappointed with my service.

Estimated Time: 3.5-4.5 months. Wise met this timeline. Positives: Demo: Quick and efficient. They had the place cleared out in 2 days. Prior to demo, their team helped us move our large pieces of furniture into our storage pod. I consider this above and beyond helpful. Flexible: As they started the prep for electrical and plumbing, we made changes and add-on's. For any unforeseen issues, they were responsive. Media niche: The team built out the area exactly to my husband's design. The owner dropped by to view the project and gave us an idea on how to build out the space for our TV mount. We are happy with the result. Fire place: The stone ledger was installed by Oliver per the design. The final product is gorgeous. Kudos to Oliver! Bathroom: Although small, the demo process was challenging as we have a concrete subfloor. It felt like they were grinding for days to prep for the shower. Once we selected our tile, their installer (Jesus) helped us with the layout and it came out beautifully. Kitchen: The prep work for the cabinet install, plumbing and electrical was completed in a timely manner. Wise's cabinet installer, David guided the team through the install process. David is meticulous and skillful at his craft. Allen: This was my first large remodel project and I wanted to have a designer to help guide me through the process. Allen came out to meet us and learn about our style choices and helped us with the challenging process of picking a lot of materials. He kept a spreadsheet which we could update ourselves. I had inspiration photos and he collaborated with us to bring it all together. Allen's design drawings gave us true picture of the final product. So much so that we ended up changing our bathroom tile because we didn't like how it looked in the drawings. Allen was patient, helpful, responsive and has a keen eye for design. Areas for Improvement: Communication, Attention to detail, Slowing down. These things came up throughout the project and mostly corrected to our satisfaction. I will list a couple of examples: Flooring installation: We were considering having our floor vendor do the installation but the savings in our Wise bid was not that much and Aaron assured us that his team was experienced with installing engineered hardwood. We asked the team to pick the planks with the least blemishes and lay them in the open areas while the others could be installed under the cabinets or closets. I don't know if there was a language barrier during communication but my husband ended closely watching the team and picking out the planks himself. This took a fair amount of his time and shouldn't have. We also noticed in the front entryway that some of the planks squeaked and flexed. We could not accept this because it was in a high traffic area. The solution they came up with was to drill small holes and inject enough glue so that the planks would not flex. We were nervous about this but figured it would be better than tearing up a portion of the floor and reinstall them. Thankfully, it worked and there is only a tiny hole which is not noticeable. The ovens needed to be wired for 240V but was wired to 120V. This was clear in the oven's instruction manual. It was corrected. We purchased very expensive outlets for our kitchen island and requested that they be installed flush to the panels. My husband even sent a PDF with instructions in WhatsApp to be communicated to the team. Either it never made it to the team, or they didn't follow instructions. We couldn't redo them because the damage to the panels was not acceptable to us. A couple of cabinet doors had the wrong size hole drilled for the handles. I did map out each door with specific handle size. They corrected this at no cost to us. I created a final TODO/correction list after final inspection and they completed everything to our satisfaction. Overall I am excited with the final results, especially with my kitchen. The Wise team were cooperative, courteous and professional. See my before/after pics.

We brought a sample of our siding to match it and the person helping us assured us it was the same and so we purchased the 30 pieces we needed. We loaded and brought home the wood only to find it was not the same exact size. We called back to try to rectify the issue but the person we spoke with was not very helpful and told us that was the only size they had and we have to pay a restocking fee if we requested to return the materials purchased. Needless to say our hands were tied and our contractor had to spend extra time to modify the sidings.

They handled the entire project from demo including a small wall, custom vanity, plumbing, addition of pony wall, steam unit installation, and marble fabrication. We purchased our material in Santa Clara and Felix picked everything up for us, and kept our calacatta viola slab in his shop until it was time to fabricate. They did an excellent job with our marble, making sure to use every inch of the slab. I am so impressed w the fabrication of our integrated sinks. They implemented everything I asked for and had great suggestions for design ideas. Fernando also provided a rendering of the space and I added a pic in comparison to the actual space and they look identical! I am so happy that the project came out exactly like we designed. We have had a difficult time getting anyone to redo our stairs based on the curved steps at the bottom. Everyone else wanted to square them off which I thought would change the whole look of the house. Stuart from Precision Stairs was the only one who saw our vision, and had the skills to make it happen. We were told that the job would be a weeks and could get very dusty. We prepared appropriately. Stuart created custom hand crafted stair treads and facing that only a skilled craftsman could do. If you are unaware of difficulty of the work you would never understand. Since my father and Grandfather worked as carpenters I do recognize and respect this level of craftsman ship. Stuart Delivered as promised and we have some dynamite stairs and railing which totally changed the look of our house. read more

I have nothing but great reviews on Stuart's work. I consistently get compliments for the work he did for us. I even contacted 3 people prior to using this company who he did work for and they gave nothing but excellent reviews about Stuart's work. He completed the job timely and was very meticulous about his work. My stairs are on his web page. People who don't understand Stuart's craftsmanship may not understand old world carpentry. A lot of carpenters do not do craftsmanship like that anymore. These days 90% of stairs are fabricated and ours were made customized specifically for our stairs. I have also recommended him to my brother and sister. read more

I got quotes which were as high as 30K!! After deciding I did not want to spend the cost of a kitchen remodel on replacing my modest railing, I had given for for almost an year when I decided to give it a try again on Yelp. Steve was an absolute pleasure to work with. From the very beginning, he was patient in explaining the options available, and sharing different pictures. When I look back on the emails I have exchanged with him, its almost a 100 emails!! Mostly we had no idea what design to choose and he would patiently send pictures of his previous work. Before we even decided to meet, he asked me to send some measurements which was quite easy for me to do and also send a couple of pictures. Within a day or two, he gave me a quote. The quote felt reasonable and we decided to have him come over. When he came over, he brought some samples and we liked what he showed. after a few back and forth on the design, we decided to move forward. He was able to finish the install in a couple of days. He was neat and ensured all the stuff was cleaned up and left the home the way it was before he started work. We are very pleased with his work as the pictures will show. We went with clear glass. The glass was installed by a couple of folks from the glass company. It took 3 weeks for the glass to arrive. The whole project took about 4 weeks. So, plan accordingly. Steve was so nice that he even smoothened some wood around the rails that our puppy had chewed. he cut up long pieces of wood to cover up some slots the flooring guys had improperly finished near the railings. All in all, I would highly recommend Steve and his company.

His foreman, Jorge, also deserves special acknowledgement. He goes above and beyond, addressing any concern or request. Admittedly, what I appreciate most is that they are willing to modify contracts so homeowners to feel at ease. I can't tell you how many times companies have tried to put sketchy lines in these documents. I rejected them all. Unlike their competitors, Sam and Urban Builders are serious about their work and willing to work with homeowners to make sure there is a shared sense of accountability between their business and clientele.

He is always on time, crews are very professional and you can tell they are masters in their craft. Management and all the administrative espect of the project was managed by Erick and Jocelyn the interior designer did tremendous work on the design side. Permit was handled by them and all inspections passed first on the very first time. Our new ADU is amazing Urban Builders & Remodeling is your ADU builder in the San Jose area. My husband had made a big mistake when he tried to assemble the desk and damaged it badly. Eric understood the situation immediately. He was friendly and kind, and even funny, saying he would get my husband out of the hot water. And, man, did he do that and so beautifully!! He had one of his employees, Minh Tran, come the very next day, which was yesterday as I write this, and he was fabulous, as Eric told me he would be. Minh is everything you would ever want in assembling and repairing a damaged new desk. He was not only kind, friendly and smart, he was extremely competent and knowledgeable about what was needed (which was a LOT), but he was also a real perfectionist, earnest about doing the best job he could. He even provided an extra bracket to strengthen a section that, ideally, the seller should have included in the purchase. I would choose them again in a heartbeat!

The next day the office called me called me to work out a schedule for a start date. The team arrived on the scheduled day and time with all the components to start the repairs. Projects included: Exterior painting, bad wood replacement, two garage to house / yard door replacements, new exterior lights and shutters. Excellent communication from start to finish. Steve, the office manager, is on top of everything. Stephen Bass came to our house for the initial meeting. Quotes are clear and easy to understand. Fast response times. We appreciated that Stephen gave us suggestions for paint. We actually gave him a few addresses in our neighborhood where we liked the paint color. Stephen then went to those houses and with a tool, he was able to match similar paint color. Once we narrowed colors (body, trim), Stephen ordered samples and painted swatches on our house. Everyone on his team who came worked well. Caulking the windows, power washing, painting. After painting, the head of the paint team noticed some wood rotting during his inspection. Stephen and his construction team replaced the wood and repainted as needed. Stephen's team also ordered exterior doors for us including the locks needed. We purchased the exterior lighting and shutters which his team installed. We also enjoyed chatting with his team members while they were here. It was a good experience overall for us!
