Stuart is truly a master of his craft and easily the most skilled contractor I have every worked with and would not hesitate to recommend him. We contracted him to install a new handrail to finish off a full home/floor remodel at my moms house and it is without a doubt the most beautiful piece in the entire home. I did not know a hand rail could be so great! I contacted several contractors to work on the hand rail and Stuart gave me the best quote. He did several visits to help me decide on the design, wood type, and direction that I wanted to go with. He even pointed out several issues/flaws in my stair case that neither I nor my flooring contractor had noticed which I appreciate immensely. Within 10s he noticed that two of my floors were almost an inch in height difference, something I had not realized and I lived in that house my whole life! We exchanged some email with pictures of what I had and examples of what I was looking for. Stuart at Precision Stair and Rail was the first person I contacted to get a quote for stair railings installation and he ended up being the only person that suggested stopping by to take a look at the existing stairs. The other companies I contacted would just email a quote without even asking what kind of railings I would like to have installed or what materials I would like to use. Stuart stopped by the house, took the measurements, gave his professional advice on what was going to work and look best, let us browse through a portfolio of his projects and select the style we liked, and provided a very reasonable and competitive quote. We signed the contract the same night and had our installation scheduled for the following week. Stuart did his best to accommodate our needs and work schedules. We were planning to have some family over the weekend and he suggested stopping by during the week to at least install the railing on the wall so that the older family members have something to grab onto as they walk upstairs. And he did not charge extra for the extra effort and time. Stuart was always on time and was always polite and professional. Being a little OCD myself, I really appreciated his attention to detail and his efforts to keep the place clean by laying a few blankets on the floor around the work area. I called him, he asked me about the details (an additional two-piece oak handrail for our stairs) and then asked me if I could email or text him some pictures of the existing stairs and rail. "Sure." We hung up, I pointed my iPhone, snapped and texted him pictures. Done! In 5 minutes! All communication including price was via text until he showed up to measure the job. Very cool! And efficient, no questions about what was "said." Stuart is with it! He showed on our scheduled day and time for measurement/finalization, measured the job, asked us what kind of mounting hardware we wanted (he had samples), consulted about the height and look of the job with us and said, "I will pick up the materials and be here at noon tomorrow." He showed up on time, consulted with my wife about the exact height of the rail for her need, laid out the location on the wall, and constructed and finish sanded the rail end pieces. He hung it temporarily, and asked my wife to try it. No assumption on his part, extremely considerate. Perfect! He finished the long rail, consulted with her on the short rail, hung it and the job was done. This may sound like a long time. Stuart was on site and finished in 2 hours. DO NOT USE Precision Stair!!! I communicated back and forth with Staurt the owner for a month regarding pricing and sent him detailed photos of exactly what i want. I met him at my home today to show him the staircase. He was rude from the moment I met him. I was asking him questions to get his ideas and he was very short (seemed annoyed). When my contractor and I asked him what type of railing he can install since we want to stain it ourselfs, he grabbed his stuff and said "You know what, I won't do your job"! And literally walked out of my home. I was frustrated at first but now thankful that I am not giving my hard earned money to such an arrogant person. My experience was similar to Stacey's earlier review, very different from the other glowing reviews. I had described the job to Stuart in email, and sent him several photos, so he knew what we wanted before he arrived at our house, and could have declined to quote the job. But he interacted perfectly normally on email. However, from the moment he entered he was condescending and rude. He seemed to think it beneath his dignity to discuss what we wanted and was short and cryptic in many of his responses, and often downright rude. Discussing the different segments of the staircase and what we wanted was like pulling teeth. At the end he told us it was a big project, and he didn't like to do big projects but "preferred to just be in and out," and that I was "fussy" because I wanted specific design elements and a high quality level, and that he didn't want to do a big project and would therefore bid very high. We have had extensive renovations to our house in the past, and have never encountered a contractor who behaved like this. My husband was present as well, and we discussed the matter and then sent him an email declining to proceed. We didn't even want his quote - he was so offensive and rude, we wanted nothing at all from him. I would prefer to leave my staircase un-remodeled rather than have it done by Stuart. read more

Stuart was amazing. I would highly recommend him. We hired him to fix a staircase that was put in incorrectly 30 years ago when we did a house remodel. I had been living with a 1st stair that was 9" too high and a top stair that was 5" too low. Every time I used the stairs or a guest tripped on the top stair or stumbled on the bottom stair I cursed the original contractor. Stuart was able to even out the elevation without having to replace the stringers. He extended the tread width without having to replace the whole tread step. It's not easy to find someone to install a new railing. Its a very niche profession. I emailed Stuart a photo of our staircase. He was busy at the that time but kept in contact with me via email and we set up a day to get an estimate approximately 10 days later. He came on a Thursday and our new railing was up on Tuesday. We did a major remodel eight years ago. We got several bids for staircases, and immediately, knew that Stuart was the best one for the job. So glad we went with him. He was the only one who was able to find the iron balusters we spotted in a picture. In fact, he put a lot of effort in locating them, while everyone else pretty much brushed us off and didn't even try to look. Our handrail had a special twist to it at the top, and everyone else wanted split the handrail, but Stuart figured out a way to make it continuous.
