Most people only think about filing taxes one month out of the year, but there are things you can and should be doing the other 11 months to better position yourself to pay less in personal and business taxes when they're due. Michael can definitely help you with this! Michael is security conscious, which you don't typically see among tax professionals. I really appreciated this about him. He uses a client portal that allows you to enable two-factor authentication to help keep your documents private and secure and WILL NOT send sensitive documents via email, which is a major security risk. Michael helped me work through a really annoying, unique business tax issue that required manual work. He dusted off his payroll software and ran the numbers for me by hand, which is incredible. He provided me with everything needed to submit to local, state, and federal agencies. When it looked like we weren't going to make the tax deadlines due to my unique business tax issue, he proactively filed an extension. This sounds basic, but with previous people, if I didn't specifically make the request they wouldn't file an extension. Crazy, right? If you're not yet convinced that Michael is the person to handle your taxes, then there's no hope for you. Just kidding. You should schedule some time to chat with him. Any concerns or fears you have will be put to rest. And when Michael has finished tidying up your taxes and that heavy weight lifts from your life, you'll totally get why this review was so long.

While Bruce Chan originally handled the file, it was handed off to Joann (who is not a licensed CPA) without a proper transition. This led to staggering negligence and hostility. Joann was incredibly unprofessional, repeatedly yelling at my fiancé over the phone. Most appallingly, when I called to provide information regarding my own taxes, she was extremely rude and hung up the phone on me before I could even ask a follow-up question. No "professional" should ever treat a paying client with such blatant disrespect. The lack of accountability here is stunning. On March 19th, after my fiancé waited over 10 hours for a callback, Bruce finally called at 7:15 PM and was extremely hostile. He actually claimed he was "losing money" on our case--after already accepting our $800 plus payment! He also admitted that Joann is not a CPA, yet she is the one handling sensitive IRS matters and being verbally abusive to clients. Furthermore, they were completely unhelpful in resolving document discrepancies. Rather than professionally guiding us through the IRS requirements, they were dismissive and "dragged their feet," forcing us to handle the IRS response ourselves to meet the March 27th deadline. I signed the corrected return; however, they submitted the original, incorrect version. This resulted in thousands of dollars being erroneously withdrawn from my account. They subsequently filed an amendment, but I was unable to recover the full amount from the IRS and state tax authority. Additionally, they assured me that no automatic payments had been set up. This proved to be false--a quarter later, my account was overdrawn due to automatic withdrawals they had failed to disclose. Throughout this process, they have continued to send emails soliciting further engagement and payment reminders, and their communication has been notably unprofessional. If you choose to work with this firm, I strongly advise reviewing all documents and filings thoroughly before and after submission to ensure accuracy.
