The starter in my 2015 Honda CRV was functioning intermittently. It made the car completely unreliable. Mileage: 80k On Monday, August 28th, I took it to Precision Tune. Very honest, knowledgeable, and kind. After looking at my brakes recently, they said the clunking I felt was just my anti-lock brake system, and that the amount of wear on the front & rear brake pads did not justify replacement yet. They charged me nothing & filled up my tires. Another time I rolled in with poor tire inflation & missing caps. PSA: if you own a Toyota Prius model years 2001-2015, your car is at high risk of its catalytic converter being sawed off by thieves (it takes but minutes and the thieves gets hundreds of bucks a pop for them; roughly 2 per day are getting stolen in Minneapolis as of late 2019/early 2020). My beloved Prius was brutalized in this fashion. Precision Tune Auto Care repaired mine with quick turnaround for just under $2,000 (took a couple days because of a shortage of parts). Other shops and dealerships all quoted well above that. The folks here care and are honest. You can tell that immediately just by talking to them on the phone, especially Rob, the manager. Rob listened intently, offered suggestions and gave me great insight about the insurance process. He walked me through the whole thing and genuinely sympathized. Other places I called were more mercenary, and either unwilling to give me an estimate over the phone, or gave me a wildly inflated estimate. Also, I bought a piece of protective hardware (basically a metal shield called Cat Security by Cap City Muffler) to protect my catalytic converter from future theft. Most other repair shops refused to even consider installing this for me (I'm not sure why), but Precision Tune happily did so, putting my mind at ease. Throughout the process, everyone I spoke with at the shop was great (Bill comes to mind, but there was one other gentleman, in addition to Rob the manager). They all knew the status of my car immediately, and were just decent, reliable people in a really tough time (all this happened during the COVID-19 pandemic, no less). Helped me out greatly over the holiday! My car shut down and luckily I could park on a side street. I called Rob at Precision - my first time calling though I knew for years that they were an excellent and trustworthy place to go. I just kept their info for backup when not in need of the dealership. My car has not ever needed anything other than dealership routine maintenance. Rob treated me like family - discussed with me the likely issues. Answered all of my questions. Explained how to contact my towing service and what would happen once it got there. These guys are really great. They've been working on my cars for 4 years and they've only come close to disappointing me one time. I keep track of disappointments because car people only get 2 chances to screw it up! For you lady-folks out there - I have referred a number of women to this shop and all of them have been treated fairly with zero complaints. These days, that's saying something. For you guys with beater cars - I drive and old Dodge truck and a beater Audi with 200k and 120k on each respectively. I'm not afraid to milk my money's worth out of a city car and I work with these guys to keep my daily drivers on the road. These guys take my beaters and they fix them up for me. Whatever the issue, they give me an estimate and tell me what needs to be fixed (versus what should be addressed down the road). I'm a customer-service stickler and generally have mixed feelings about the propsect of taking my car to a mechanic. But I can tell you that Precision Tune Edina is terrific. I've been taking my vehicle to them for basic maintenance for a couple years now. I have never felt overcharged. I have never felt that they recommdended services to pad the bill. In fact... They exercise integrity. If I'm the one who proposes a service, they will make sure that it is neccessary. They were kind enough to put the wheel covers on my car and when one cracked during installation, they replaced it. Mind you, they didn't pretend it didn't happen, or leave it for me to discover after I had driven off the lot (wondering where along my commute it happened), or tried to shift responsiblity. Nope. They put in the order. I spend my money wisely and aspire to do so within what can be a very specific budget. With coupons and their competitive pricing overall, I can make the upkeep of my vehicle a regular habit rather than a once-off affair, depending on my account balance. Although a national franchise, Edina Precision is locally owned. I've even met the owner on a day he was working. It's easy to see why customer service, value, and straight dealing is a priority here. I have to give huge kudos to the manager, Rob, who does a fantastic job. Courteous, engaged, knowledgable. I've brought my car here twice and so far I'm really impressed with the service. I had been going to go to the place across the street for the 14 years that I've lived in the neighborhood, but in the past year or so I've been less confident in their advice and service. So I thought I'd try Precision Tune, and I'm really glad I did. I'll echo the prior reviewers that these guys are awesome when it comes to maintaining an older car. My car with some-150k miles on it has some issues, and the manager (Rob?) was great in prioritizing what was critical and what repairs could wait. I've never felt talked down to and I really felt like I could trust the advice he was giving me. Like the other reviewers have commented, he also turned away some business from me when something DIDN'T need fixing. Wow! The manager takes a lot of pride in the business, and as someone who lives in the neighborhood that means a lot to me. He showed me some of his other reviews, and clearly I'm not the only one impressed with the place. I'm stingy with my 5-star reviews and I've only been to this Precision Tune twice so far, but will happily update my review to 5 stars when I've come back another time or two and can be confident that this level of service isn't a fluke. I can't help but give these guys the coveted 5 stars. They met & exceeded all expectations! Fast, super-friendly, affordable, and above all, they were honest & went to every effort to explain the problems with my car, what they were going to do to fix it, and offered options. They HAVE my business going forward, and they should have yours, too! I called around & got prices & estimates on my brakes, brake lines & new tires, and Tim at Precision got me new brakes, rotors & brand new tires for under what everyone was charging for just the brakes. Not only that, but I dropped my car off on Monday afternoon, and it was done Monday evening. I took my 2001 Acura for the repair which involved, replacing brake pads and rotors and regular oil change, and good part is that I had the replacement parts which I brought online, and they just only charged for the labor. At the same time they suggested to do the transmission flush as the transmission oil needs the replacement, and the Rob the manager of the shop took me inside to show me the how bad the transmission oil has gone bad... here he took the oil from the car engine and then compared with new transmission oil which was cherry red in color to show me that the transmission oil needs a replacement and that time I did not realize that he is comparing the new transmission oil with my car engine oil and agreed to do the job and gave me a quote for $90 as it requires some flush machine to drain the oil from transmission (for Honda and Acura cars should never use the flush machine to change transmission oil) I went this shop reading all the reviews and honesty in the service, but I had a different experience. I had the halogen light bulb go out on my passenger side headlight on a Prius and needed it replaced. I called a few different places and was given quotes at minimum of $60 and more. Some places said that they couldn't even give me an exact quote because it may be up to 2 hours of labor. I had done some research and knew it was not an HID lightbulb that is expenses and labor intensive and tried to explain this to other places and they still insistent crazy prices to replace the Halogen on a Prius. I called this place up based on the reviews and that they were open so early. The friendly guy quoted me at about $25. I braved the fresh snow and headed over. Front desk guy was friendly and honest. He ran out, took a look at the car parked in the parking lot, and literally minutes later came back in and said it was done and final total was $21. Awesome place. Will definitely return here or they suggested their sister store in St. Paul on Snelling since I live in St. Paul and they said this was a great store too and run by the same owner. I will not take my car anywhere else. I have been a customer for several years. Once upon a time, the transmission went out in one of my cars. I took it to a place that was close to my work to get fixed. When I got it back ($1500 later) there was a strange sound. I told the place about this and even went with on a test drive when the tech pretended to not hear it. It was a busted wheel bearing. Not long after this incident, I took my car in to Precision Tune for an oil change and they happened to notice that my car's frame was missing a bolt! They fixed it and they didn't charge me! Who forgets to bolt the frame back together!? I have been a loyal customer of theirs ever since. They are honest, straightforward and will not try to sell you something that you don't really need just to turn a buck. I went to Precision for the first time because my hood was not latching properly and the weather-stripping around my door was coming off. I know very little about cars, so they could have charged me anything for the fixes.
