We had Terry remodel our 1940s bathroom - electrical, plumbing, tile, tub, painting, toilet, sink,…read morelighting, cabinet, exhaust fan, grab bars, counter, plaster repair - the works! It's now been about 4 months since he finished the work and each day I look at our new bathroom and think "wow!' He did a great job! He was patient and always responsive to any questions or issues, and cleaned up each day. Great workmanship too. He started out by measuring and answering any questions we had, offering ideas here and there but letting us make our own decisions. Unlike some other contractors, he did not give fancy 3D architectural renderings, nor did he accompany us to each supplier to pick out products. Here's what his process was, which was perfect for us. We received a proposal contract which listed each item or task, along with a cost allowance for each item. If we chose something more expensive than its allowance, the final price would reflect the increase. If what we chose cost less than the allowance, the final cost would go down by that much. So we had a bottom line price from the start and would have the final decision on expenses. He then also gave us a list of his suggested suppliers from which to pick out all of the products. We worked with those suppliers to make selections at their respective showrooms (they work with TLC regularly), and they forwarded our selections to Terry. A few selections we made were from suppliers not on his list, which was fine, but the places he suggested were where most of the items came from. When all selections were made, he provided us with a revised proposal contract reflecting our selections and revised costs. Then he - not us - did the ordering from each vendor to insure that all of the parts and pieces fit together and would work, plus that way his contractor discount was applied. His final contract to us was transparent and showed all prices. No additional markups, no change order fees, no nonsense. If someone wants computer-generated architectural renderings, having him present at each supplier meeting, one central showroom where every needed product and samples are all in one place, then this type of contractor isn't likely for you. If however, you want a remodeling contractor that not only provides the quote but also does the actual work himself, with reliable suppliers that work with him, with a fair price and a minimal amount of stress (if that's possible lol), then TLC's a good choice. Would we recommend TLC Contracting? If you haven't it already guessed: the answer is absolutely!

The weather created challenges that caused the job to take longer than expected. If it wasn't raining or snowing the great crew were here working, even in the cold. All rotten wood was replaced and not just removed. I had requested them to remove one of my chimneys and you can't even tell there used to be one there. Everyday the crew cleaned up before they left and even picked up all the loose nails from the driveway and yard. The new roof looks great, I couldn't have asked for more.

Bill Mal, owner of Emally's Construction, reached out to me via another platform after I showed…read moresome interest in having my kitchen remodeled. I paid him a deposit of $5,820 in February 2022. He reached out that fall, and we agreed he'd start the job in January of 2023. He told me that he'd give me a call when he was ready to start. The problem is that after said phone call, Bill decided to take my deposit and disappear. He never called me to start the job in January 2023. He even ignored a letter I sent to him in spring 2023. In January 2025 I requested that my deposit be returned. This guy signed a contract, took my money, and disappeared. This is highly concerning and (sounds like) criminal conduct and I highly recommend avoiding his business and any future businesses he starts. It's wild to me that someone chooses to steal rather than to do honest work, especially when I had 60k sitting here waiting on him to start the job. Finally, Bill seems to be doing something shady with his positive reviews on other platforms. I suspect they're fake. I reported a few here on Yelp, and customer support reached out to confirm that they had removed them. Update: Well that's a wild concoction of a story from the owner. I've been here at my house waiting for this guy to show up to do the job he agreed to. $60k was just sitting in my bank account waiting for him. Financing was never a route I was interested in going, and no financing ever "fell through." If somebody is honest, it sure isn't Bill Mal. He never called, never sent a letter, never showed up, never showed up to measure anything or order anything, and simply stole my deposit. Highly dishonest behavior from someone who you shouldn't let in your house.

Bill was extremely unprofessional, often talking poorly about his own workers and sub-contractors as well as talking down to me. The tile work was done so poorly that the grout was coming out in chunks just months after the job finished. The sliding barn door was not installed into the header and was pulled out of the wall. His crew were not experienced at installing frameless shower doors, and we subsequently had to have another company fix their poor work. Our hardwood floors in the adjacent room were ruined because he failed to properly protect them. When we asked for things to be made right, there were threats of litigation and things became very ugly. The only positive, was getting connected with a couple of his sub-contractors at have continued to work for us and recommended other great people.
