Mario deceitfully and unfairly held onto my $500 deposit and refused to return it, demanding that I wait 2 -3 months before starting my exterior house paint project. Be cautious when dealing with Mario and Preferred Choice Painting. I selected Mario to paint the exterior of my house and paid him a $500 deposit in good faith, so he would prioritize my project. I had informed him all along that I was finalizing a separate landscape project that may impact the paint project start date. He provided me with an initial tentative start date that I subsequently had to delay in order to finalize details with the landscape contractor, to which Mario said was no problem. A few weeks later when I contacted Mario to arrange a new start date, he told me I would have to wait 2 - 3 months at minimum before he could paint my house. I told him waiting 2-3 months to start any project is unreasonable and kindly asked for my deposit back so I could find someone else to do my project in a timely manner. Mario immediately refused to return my deposit even as a courtesy and insisted that I wait around for 2 - 3 months. To make things worse, he never provided an explanation for the 2-3 month delay. He initially blamed me, then ultimately said he wouldn't have enough workers (mind you - my house is a very small single story and would only require a single worker, not a crew). Dealing with Mario and Preferred Choice Painting was a very negative and unpleasant experience. I didn't appreciate the way he strung me along in order to pocket my deposit and not return it. Mario painted our house in 2021 and did a great job. About a year later, we noticed that our skylight was cracked. I did not immediately look into the issues because I had no leaks inside the house since the inner piece was still intact. When I went to claim skylight warranty replacement, the first question I was asked was if I had had the house painted. To make a long story short, overspay from painting the chimney landed on the skylight and the petroleum content in the paint caused the acrylic dome to crack. I took care of the replacement, but then, I also found out that paint had gotten on the solar panels which makes them less efficient. My wife and I tried to contact Mario several times, but he never responded. I even offered to pay for the cleanup. I don't know why he's not responding because he was very responsive before and I hate to give him a low rating, but he's giving me no option. So, if you use Mario, make sure that they cover your skylights and solar panels. read more

Mario and company (3-person crew) painted the exterior of my house at the end of year 2024. It took 6-7 work days to finish the job from power wash, stucco repair, tapping to actual painting. The job also included the painting of the garage door, exterior doors and the yard gate. The job quality was excellent, and Mario was pleasant to work with. Mario purchased sample colors for us and painted small patches to help us decide on the colors. The crew was also careful with the plants and items near the house, and ensured that there was minimal impact on the ground and all surface was clean after the work. This was a large job that required all hands on deck, as they carefully and thoroughly washed and sanded my home's 70 yr old wood siding, reglazed and restored the original multipane windows and painted in all the different ways (spray, roll and brush), with multiple colors. The guys were happy every day and detail oriented, politely tolerant of my attention to detail. Happily walking around the entire house with me as I pointed out touch ups and changes. I ultimately went with Preferred Choice because Mario provided a written quote detailing everything that I requested and for a reasonable price, while being a fully licensed bonded and insured painter (several I quoted were apparently not). Mario and his team have done a wonderful job for us. We love the energy and high work ethic they have! You can find painters everywhere but you can't find many who does care. They even wrap the top of the vacuum hose with a soft cloth when vacuuming our newly stained wood floor! We used to have a dog door in the dining room and we have to wait for the door to be closed in order for Mario to finish the job, it took us two weeks to finally have the door closed, he brought his team back as promised and did a great touch up. There are no words to describe our extreme and utter happiness as we can't stop admiring our newly painted house. The last time we had our house painted was a decade ago, and I still remember that experience being a complete nightmare. The job was so subpar and they colored "outside" the lines (they got paint onto our neighbor's house!). Our experience with Preferred Choice Painting has been the exact opposite. From the get-go, Mario has been nothing but an absolute joy to work and communicate with. He listened to all of our concerns, needs and wants.
