I just can't think of anything they could have done better....Derrick responded to my Sunday request within 20 minutes and gave me a quote after looking at photos. Miguel and Tiso started THE NEXT DAY at 8am Monday and finished at 10:30 am Tuesday - all one color/2 coats/no ceilings- 9 rooms. Did a couple of walkthroughs and they got everything I asked them to do. They were on time, very personable, really good guys - Derrick checked in at least 3 times every day to see how it was going. My experience with Preferred started off great. Very responsive. I was getting a quote for exterior painting of my entire house, interior painting of majority of the house, and whitewashing a large wall. I was ready to go through with the entire project which was in the $10k range. I let them know I wanted to start with the white wash of the large wall and took their advice to test an area to rip out some wainscoting before painting the rest of the interior. I tried 3 times to get on the schedule and was unable. Each time I was the one who had to ask again. If they decided they just didn't want my business that's fine but at least they could let me know. I have zero idea why they didn't want to do the job. Everything was great up until trying to get the work schedule and then they ghosted me. read more

I used Preferred Painting for an exterior job. I was specific in what was needed. There was some wood rot with my wooden window sills and frames that needed to be repaired and there was to be the usual exterior work: caulking and painting. First the wood rot was never fixed, it was painted over. I had them come back and repair the three places I knew to look but I have since found several other places. There was no caulking or preparation of the window frames or the sills. Currently the paint is flaking off. The painters also painted the inside track of my windows. I did not ask them to do that. When it came time to open my windows I could not do so. They were painted shut. Even though I had allowed a day and a half for the paint to dry. I contacted Preferred about this, sent my address to them and explained the problem. I knew that I needed them to come out and open them from the outside, which I could not do unless I was on a painters ladder. He assured me he would have someone out in a day or two. I followed up two days later to remind and ask about it and was put off. I have not heard from him again and had to get the windows open myself. It was something that would have been very simple for one painter to do with a ladder to reach upper windows. As a customer with an issue due to the work of his employees he should have taken care of that for me and in fact assured me he would but it was just lip service. The service was deplorable. I would not recommend them to anyone.. read more

I have used Derrick's crew 3 times now for interior paint jobs. All three were done very well and affordable. Most recent was painting our whole interior when we moved to a new home last month. They worked through most of the polar vortex and finished just a day late. They even offered to touch up some ceiling and trim areas that I hadn't asked them to paint. I used preferred painting for the exterior and interior of my home. Their initial price is good. Any alterations are going to be expensive (because they knew you need those changes). Tehy do a reasonably good job on painting. They do a less than reasonable job of cleaning the area they worked on. When they left, there were paint cans and empty water bottles around my home. Derrick is a nice guy. The issue I had was one of the worker was walking back and forth on my side walk and talking abusive language on phone. It was so loud and clear that I was able to record it from my bedroom and show to other painters. When I asked other guys to tell him to leave my property. Overall, I believe the experience could have been better. read more

After having written this review I received a very prompt follow up. Turns out we have a faulty down spout that is causing some issue. Once repaired Preferred said they'd come out and tend to the bubbling paint. I'm sure they'll touch up the other areas at that time too... Just had Preferred Painting finish up painting the entire exterior of our home and couldn't be happier. We had originally chosen another company (though Yelp), but after talking further to them we realized they wouldn't be doing as much for the money - including taking down our downspouts and completely removing our 6 brand new exterior light fixtures before painting. So we went back to Preferred which had been our second choice. Derrick is the owner and the person you speak (and mostly text) with to get started. He is good. Don't be put off by their less than impressive written estimates and contracts. We signed up in early May and hoped it would be done by the end of June, but the terrible rains delayed it til mid July. Derrick kept us up to date via text throughout that time, and it was worth the wait. These guys are really real pros. Luis is the foreman and makes sure things get done right. He is terrific at communicating, asking questions and explaining exactly what they will do. We liked his sense of humor too. He brought in 6 guys the first day and 4 the next. They worked their butts off and finished off our big house in just 2 days in 90 degree heat. They were polite, clean, quiet and efficient. They power washed, scraped, removed caulk, re-caulked, replaced some damaged boards, took down our downspouts and light fixtures. Luis made suggesting for painting and repair that we'd not have thought of before. Even though we had moved our patio furniture before they came, they still went to the trouble of carefully covering it. We have a lot of plants and had just put down new mulch. They did a great job keeping everything clean and had minimal plant damage. They sprayed where they could and brushed the rest. Two coats everywhere including the window frames and front door. Then they put everything back in place including our light fixtures and downspouts. It looks great. I've painted some houses myself before and was amazed at their efficiency and work ethic. Big 5 stars from us and we are VERY picky about things like this. We understand Preferred does great interior work too so we are thinking we will use them for some big interior projects we have planned for the future. Thank you Derrick, Luis and crew. Great job. ** Also, we used JC Lichts color consulting service to help us select the colors and were very happy we did. We just bought a new house and I reached out to Derrick at Preferred. Pricing was very reasonable and they took on my project that same week and completed it in two days. Quality and service were both great. At the last minute we decided to have our kitchen cabinets painted white based on several of the reviews we saw on Yelp. It was clear that this is something this firm specializes in. They had a crew walk in and know exactly what they were doing and had the entire kitchen completed by the time we moved in. My mom found Preferred Painting from advertising. Derrick was a nice enough guy, gave a written quote with what they would be doing. Power wash, scrape, prime (what needed to be) and paint. 5 yr warranty. Apparently a sub contractor was used, as he was only there 2 days. It was October I believe. You can't power wash, scrape, prime expect to dry sufficiently and paint the next day? Areas started to peel in less than a year. We were told it was because of the stain underneath, which had been latex stained at least twice over a 20 year period. If scraped and primed properly this should not happen. Not in less than 1 yrs time. Derrick has been contacted at least 10 times, possibly twice he returned the call and promised to be their the next week. No show, no call. This has been going on for several years. This may all have been because a sub-contractor didn't do his job correctly, but the payment checks were made out to Preferred Painting. The warranty end date is coming up and we have had absolutely no resolution. I hope that because my mom is elderly he would not try to rip her off. I would never find a contractor through advertising again. Unfortunately time to take other action read more

Let me start from the beginning when Derrick first came out to bid he was quick to get a bid and was supper confident and we thought from the way he carried him self that the company would do a great job after looking at reviews and feeling him out . Days before painting I had to reach out to him to give him colors never once did he reach out and when I sent the colors he said "WOW that's a lot of colors that's going to be more money . He saw the house and there was no talk from the being that the amount of colors were changing . We pressed on and then called stating that they were going to start early !!! I said great We meet Louis and crew and they worked the first day which was a Saturday not getting much done but hey its a Saturday . Monday rolls around and they start the outside and keep going in the insides . Note new Foreman Abraham starts on the outside . Day 3 rolls on and the foreman on outside leaves the job and was fighting with Lewis No idea why . Day 4 Derrick shows up and takes look around and says guys should be done today I was like wow they have almost half the house left but okay . Went and got pizzas and when I was out Derrick called again and said that it would be more money since the amount of paint we used . Thats were I get upset this is now the second time more money is asked and I feel like this is shady and he says don't worry I will just file it as a loss on my taxes . Then tells me if I pay the whole amount he will take money off if I paint my cabinets in winter (which we talked about doing ) . This all to me is strange then he blames that the reason he was short was cause of health issues in his family all and all very strange and very off pudding asking for more money twice and if we knew this from the shake we would never have gone with him . That was all in the end of August . I was having wood flooring as well as carpet installed so both Derrick and Louis New there would be some touch ups . So I fast forward to mid September I reach out to both Derrick and Louis about touch ups Derrick say he's not in the area and will let me know next week . Louis say he will check with derrick . Weeks and weeks go by and I reach out to derrick and he says oh I thought Louis was out there I say NO ..... Then he say they will be here last week nothing then I get a text they will be here at 8 am today(11/16) on Sunday the 15th. I say perfect . 8 AM ON Monday no one then 10 am rolls on after reaching out to derrick and the Gentlemen shows up . 2 hours go by and I get a text from Derrick once again asking for more money say that the trim wasn't in the bid from the being. This is straight up a joke the guy lies and doesn't remember what he tells people . I call him and tell him that I told him there was no more money being paid . He also stated that the reason it took so long is that some one in organization had covid . If you look at the last couple of reviews this gives you a real snap shot of who they are . Been painting for 32 years Derrick will tell you . The guys that work for him are nothing but amazing but he isn't a good business owner and will nickel and dime you to death . After spending 11k I would assume the job would be perfect . I work very hard for my money and had a lot done in the house and this was by far the worst company to deal with . read more

The address he is using is a UPS store that has occupied the space for about 15 years. He promised me he could strip our fireplace of paint and could not. Derrick's employee did a nice, neat, fast job of painting our house, I was very pleased until I realized the chimney wasn't painted. I called and asked him to come back. After trying all summer to get him to complete the job, I noticed areas where the paint was peeling already. His employee stopped by and briefly touched up 3 spots and left. I immediately called Derrick to have him return to fix the other spots and to finish the remainder of the job, he has not returned. I cannot recommend this company. read more

A fraction of one star would be more appropriate. I hired Derrick to remove popcorn ceilings throughout my home and subsequently refinish/paint the ceilings. Let's just say the popcorn looked much better than what they call a finished product. Not only was Derrick quick to cash my check before ensuring the quality of his guys' work, but when informed of the terrible workmanship he was vulgar, insulting, and could care less because the money was already in the bank. Not sure what kind of business this guy is trying to run, but being rude & disrespectful towards clients when his own guys made amateur mistakes - ie. not waiting to paint over wet mud - is utterly unacceptable and frustrating beyond belief. No accountability whatsoever. The lack of professionalism and skill was appalling. Hire professionals - even College Pro would have yielded semblance of a job well done.
