Our neighbor has high standards, so when he was pleased, we knew Preferred Turf was the company we would choose to install turf in our back yard. Michael came out to draw up our plans. His work is very precise and detailed. No question on what we were having done & how it would look in the end. We had prepped the ground by tearing out our existing lawn, and we outlined our design on the dirt with paint. Not a straight forward design...it had lots of turns and curves. Ivar, the owner, came out the day before to go over the project and felt they should be able to complete the job in one day. The following day a crew of 7 workers showed up at 7am and jumped right in. They had to do a lot of work breaking through our hard ground, and roots, but they ALL worked very hard and cleared the dirt. Other than their lunch break, they didn't stop once. Preferred Turf was very responsive during the quoting process and came in much lower than other companies I spoke to, mainly because they didn't charge me for wastage and only for the exact square footage of the area we were doing. I'm very pleased with how the turf came out for my daughters play area. It was done quickly and so far is holding up well. I have however contacted them three times for my warranty information- I was told it was in the mail but nothing yet and my turf was done almost three months ago. I'm a bit worried that if anything does happen with the turf that I have zero documentation to get it fixed. I would also suggest having employees look a little more professional-perhaps a company t-shirt since they tended to take over the street during the work and was spread out down the block during lunch time. Overall Ivar and his team did a quality install of the turf in my yard and would recommend him to others. We replaced about 2100 sq feet of grass altogether, his price was fair compared to the other turf installers in the area. We got the Diamond Pro Spring turf for about $7/sq ft. Ivar was not a high-pressure sales guy type with me. Pretty laid back and is straight to the point. He has been installing turf for a few years now so he knows what it takes to get the job done. He is an owner/operator as well, so he is saving on his overhead cost which is reflected in his pricing. Our project took 3 days. We had some changes to the project on day 1, thanks to my spouse, and Ivar was able to flex his crew and planning to meet those changes. Some tips: 1) Make sure everything you want to be accomplished is written on the invoice sent by Ivar. We had a slight misunderstanding over the rocks to be used around the trees and near the fence. In the end, Ivar took care of us to make sure everything was the way we wanted it, he earned a star back for this. 2) Have a plan of what exactly you want to be replaced and how you want your yard to look after it is complete. He isn't a mind reader, draw up a basic sketch of your yard so you aren't walking around the backyard while trying to remember what you wanted. 3) Stay engaged while his team is there. I'm not telling you to be outside every minute, but it is your backyard and walking around every couple hours to check placement and location of items is important. We didn't have any issues with this, just a general pointer for anyone having work done on their house. It is way easier to adjust midstream than correcting issues at the end of the job. read more

Well, my original review could not remain as posted. After the first rain post installation, my backyard flooded all the way up to my back door! Although during the quote phase of the project, Nataly assured me that our drainage holes would be kept, they were not! In fact, they were covered by dirt, leading to non-existent drainage. When we attempted to solve this issue, our phone calls and messages were left unanswered for weeks upon weeks. Finally, the only thing to get their attention was a poor review on yelp. They immediately called and set up a time to come out. They pulled up our turf and had the audacity to tell us that the drainage issue was due to animal bones found in the dirt... How does that even make sense? If my backyard drained, perfectly fine prior to the turf being installed, then that shouldn't have been an issue after turf installation. At the point of "fixing" they still did not find the original drainage holes, but ensured that they created their own drainage solution. After the second visit, we were bullied into removing our Yelp post, so we did as we beloved the job was finally done and we could move on. Cut to current day and the turf reinstallation looks horrendous as you can now see the seams, and our backyard is massively flooded anytime the slightest rain rolls in. read more

We shopped around and called 3 other businesses but we were very impressed with PT's product knowledge and fair pricing. Some of the other businesses started with high quotes and then ended up calling us back with lower prices when we didn't bite. Ivar was very patient with all our questions and in the end was very grateful for the opportunity to work together. After viewing many homes that had artificial turf installed when I take my dog for walks, and talking to home owners about their experiences, I had a pretty good idea what I wanted and what to look out for. I also searched U Tube on how to's and what to look for on substandard installations. I searched Yelp for reviews and one company stood out above all the rest, Preferred Turf. They had the most 5 star reviews and not one poor review for installation and or quality of job done. No one complained of being unsatisfied with the installation job that was done. So I called Mike Miller the sales rep for the company. He arrived right on time and proceeded to show me samples of the turfs he installs, all of good quality but I chose the heaviest and densest turf available at 90oz density. Normal is 1 1/4"- 1 1/2" but I chose the Preferred 805 Turf at 90 oz and 2.125" high and 100% water permeable that is 10-15% cooler than other turfs. Yes it was more expensive but looked amazing. Mike wrote a contract detailing everything that they do to prep and install the turf, exactly like what is recommended on CA Contractor website on how to hire a contractor. They pretty much went by the book. The contract was very extensive leaving nothing out, even warranty, payment, dates, and installation process lists of materials and costs. I learned Preferred Turf is rated no. 1 in Ventura Co by Yelp reviews. Mike told me 2-3 weeks to start as they were pretty busy and that is when I got a call from Nataly who scheduled a start date for the job. Even though my front yard area is only less than 400 sq ft, they allowed two days at most to finish the job. They finished in one day but no machinery was used except the powered brush to churn the sand into the turf at the end. All turf removal was done by hand, using pick and shovel. I have two large palm trees that leave surface roots every square inch and this really toughened the work dealing with the roots exposed. They prepared the surface exactly like laying down pavers which this company also installs so the prep is very labor intensive, laying aggregate and sand down to 4.5" then leveling and tamping using a machine, ok the only other machine used. The crew of 8 or so finally laid the turf down using carpet stretchers and 5"nails every 4" of seams and borders. They used anti microbial silica sand spread at 2 lbs per square ft then power brushed sand into turf. The biggest complaint I heard from some homeowners were the seams of their instal were too visible. When I tried to find the seams on my turf I could only guess because I couldn't find them. By researching I found the best company and got the best turf and got the best job. I'm very satisfied and happy at the job done and Ivar the Forman kept me up on all aspects of the job. I can only vouch for the job done on my place but I did the research and the proof is in the pudding. Preferred Turf is a very good company I highly recommend.
