If you do the ship, you will need more than 2 hours but the hourly rate at the garage is reasonable

Now the worst part. EVERY. SINGLE. TANK. HAD. DISEASE. There was even a catfish covered in some biofilm standing on its back fin STILL ALIVE. I will attach the photo. Bettas are also in horrid conditions. They used to clean their little jars often, but most definitely not anymore. Half have a swim bladder problem. Why charge so much for fish that are treated like crap? The Pride in the fish here is definitely gone. I ended up getting no fish that day and a bad taste in my mouth for my (used to be) favorite fish store. If I wanted diseased fish and garbage customer service, I would have went to petsmart.

It is also my birthday month and have had my eye on this tour for awhile. It was fate! Not knowing what to expect, I jumped the gun and paid immediately. When Rex, the owner, sent the itinerary, I saw 3 local restaurants, Catch 31, Rockefeller's, & Tautogs. My first thoughts were, "I hope this isn't lame...", "I could go to these places myself..." The group met at Virginia Aquarium for an optional tour inside for the first 30mins. I arrived late. Now, I wish I made it on time to hear more about oysters. Rex tried finding the group for me & we walked all around the museum. It was way too crowded, I was late, & didn't mind waiting. Perhaps walkie talkies as a communication tool for the husband & wife team. Not just for late arrivals. :) Could be distracting too but, just a suggestion. The aquarium attendants had no idea who or where the group was. I did appreciate the effort. Not many would help me catch up with group especially, since I was late. Our first stop was Catch 31. Table was set and ready to go. We had three chefs(one including one of our guides, Chef Patrick Evans-Hylton) and the sommelier at our table. They educated us about the oysters & wine. They walked us through the various types of oysters & wine, regions, how to eat, & how to taste. We were served 4 oysters each from one of the 7 regions & two wine tastings. There were condiments and crackers on the table. I thought this was definitely the most informative restaurant out of the three. Next stop was Rockefeller's. Again, tables were set & wine was poured! No menu w/ descriptions. We had 2 raw oysters and 2 oysters rockefeller. Then, we were served hush puppies w/ pimento cheese which were amazing. Last, was coconut cake! This restaurant had more food offerings which was good because after several glasses of wine, I was hungry & others were too!! Last stop was Tautog's. They sat us outside & setup was more buffet style. Glasses of wine were on a table for us to pick up as we walked in. The presentation was beautifully prepared. They had 3 of their house sauces which were delicious! I thought the sauces were needed with these oysters. Others agreed. Didn't taste as fresh as the previous restaurants. I believe they were Lynnhaven and I've had Lynnhaven oysters before. So, not a reflection on the tour. There was also fresh cut fruit on the oyster platters. Only because TT asked, my recommendations would be: * Posting sample itineraries on social media * Clearer description of what to expect with regards to food so people know whether or not they should eat prior to the tour or pack a snack/sandwich. * Website shows they would be "happy to provide water and light snacks." None were offered. * Market/advertise the 10% off Yelp Check-in offer * Advise up front the 10% off Yelp Check-in is NOT valid for the Oyster & Wine tour. A portion of proceeds go towards non-profit which I totally understand & appreciate, just set the expectation. Overall, this was a lovely experience that one can comfortably do solo! I did and I truly enjoyed! Hands down. I am so happy to see a company like this on the East Coast and executing with such class. Please don't think this is a drunken wild party bus. Everything is alive and meant for people who have a fish hobby or looking to explore their reptile section. The smell of pets in the air is bearable consider they carry many little animals like guinea pig, hamsters, snakes and lizards. But perhaps their carpet can get some shampooing. But I get it, they have free roaming turtoises on the loose, leaving gifts for the pet store associates to clean without a doubt. They have the a lot of fresh water fish selections, I'd advise people looking for salt water, swimming friends ...to go else where.

HUGE MISTAKE! Within days of purchasing crickets from this place, both of my crested geckos are dead. They lived in separate terrariums next to each other, and were very different ages (9 y/o and around 1 y/o). All conditions were EXACTLY the same besides where I purchased the crickets from, and within 3-4 days, both of my healthy geckos were dead! Following this incident, my mother and I called the store and the initial woman who picked up directed me to the owner, Jeff, who immediately gave extreme attitude and disregarded our concerns. I wouldn't advise anyone to buy insects for their beloved reptiles from this establishment. With heavy hearts, RIP Shawn and Shawna. P.S. that tank is NOT big enough for that alligator snapping turtle. No wonder the damn thing doesn't move, IT CAN'T!

(Review based on the bird department)…read more This place was absolutely FANTASTIC! I'm not a bird owner, just a person who likes to hang out with feathered friends every once in a while. The staff for the bird section was absolutely wonderful and answered all the questions we had. It's very important to consider that THESE ARE LIVING BEINGS. Treat them with respect, handle with care, etc. If you choose to handle the birds, there IS a possibility of you getting bit, clawed, pooped on, etc. and it's NOT anywhere close to zero. I advise being especially careful with the macaws, who bite HARD. They have very strong beaks, muscles, and claws that can easily punch holes in skin and scratch. Even the smaller birds are quite nippy, but aren't as likely to break skin (though they certainly do sometimes). Most of the nipping and biting can be attributed to affection, but is just as likely to cause infection (a fun play on words, but still true!). If you don't know how to handle birds, do not go in expecting to come out a professional, or go in with the expectation of all of the birds immediately loving you. These birds see upwards of hundreds of people a day and likely have no idea what to expect from you. I recommend talking with the employees, who I can't guarantee are all as nice as the people we talked to, but likely know the birds at least a little bit, and can help children and people wanting to interact in a safer way than just involving without caution.

I've done plenty of research online, but this was my first time going to look at birds in person. Seeing this was a family run business, I decided to bring my business here rather than a big box store. Big mistake. Almost everyone working seemed to be stuck up teenagers and young adults. My family was in the store for about 30 min and not a single employee offered any assistance. Not even a simple hello. The bird section was absolute chaos. There's TONS of birds jammed into a small corner of the store which seems to be, by far, their most popular animal. The aisles are cramped and it's hard to hear anything with all the birds chirping away. There were 2 employees feeding/ tending to birds. They were pretty much ignoring everyone. I tried to ask a few questions about different species, yet I felt like an annoyance to them.. then I simply got told, if you're new to birds, just get a cockatiel. The guy wouldn't really give any information on any of the other species. I'm trying to make sure I have everything I need in my home before buying a bird, but it seems like they'd rather you just pay $$ now and quit bothering them. There's a bunch of signs up saying NO PICTURES everywhere. It felt like a prison with the wide variety of threatening signs all over the place. I did notice the cages seemed very over priced. An A&E cage I saw on Chewy for $300 was marked up to like $700 in there. The cockatiels were a couple hundred dollars more than Pet Smart. I wanted to avoid going to somewhere like Pet Smart or Petco to get a pet bird, but after this experience, I'll just take my business there. At least they have employees that seem like they care about helping customers. It's a shame to see a local business that can't provide better service than corporate big box stores. If it wasn't for your exorbitant prices, I suspect you'd be out of business by now.
