When this opened last year I thought this looks like Jumanji inside. It is spectacular with the most amazing reptiles and the most elaborate chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. You have got to come see this place. The staff are super into reptiles of ALL kinds and they are very knowledgeable. Also friendly when your just excited to walk around and look like I do. It is the largest reptiles for sale in the whole area. I'm telling you YOU have got to come see this place. It's great. They sell everything you could possibly dream of for your reptile needs from the structures to house your new reptile to all the decorations inside. All of their habitats they have in the store are gorgeous. There is always a helpful staff member there to answer any questions. My favorite are all the turtles but they also have really cool squirrels on display. I don't think they are for sale but oh my goodness they are so cute. I went to see what plants they had for sale and nearly half of them were melting in their tanks. No way I'm spending $15+ on a plant that's just going to die within the week. Also disgusted that they would sell 0.7gal "Betta Tanks" . Just setting up future fish owners for failure and the fish for terrible lives. I'm also confused about the dogs? Do what you want in your business I guess, but I don't want to shop while a child kicks a ball off the tanks for a collie to chase into my legs. I will not be returning to this location. There are other stores who care more about their animals and have better quality product. read more

Some of the snakes they have are not healthy. One was covered in mites. They also had one ball python had respiratory issues. I was interested in one snake then they told me that's not the price it's actually a different price then what's on the tag. The staff are not very helpful or knowledgeable about the reptiles. They allow the store owners dogs to run around and poop and pee on the floor. When we told the staff there was dog poop on the floor she handed us a paper towel to pick it up. Sorry, but I won't be coming back here. Very poop customer services. read more

Bought guppies a few months back and they had columaris. All passed away after spending a bunch of money on meds and different treatments. Also I have 4 guppie tanks running for years now so I'm not a beginner. First time getting guppies here and the last time. read more

Love, love, love. My son loves the shark cruising around the tank in the middle and girly loves trying to make me buy $200 rare saltwater fish. Every time I've been here I have received above average service and I feel comfortable talking to any employee about anything. They got a lot of X-Gen working here so a lot of the employees are young bucks.. but knowledgeable. All the fishes live here, salt, fresh, and an abundance of plants and coral. I appreciate that they also have 5 plus show tanks for our viewing pleasure. The "dream tanks" as I like to call them. The fish and such are well priced and they run great deals all the time, but I wouldn't buy "gear" for my tank here. Sadly, Amazon gets all my business in that department. They had 20% off all fishy's this past weekend though! I think that deal even applied to coral and plants. I also seen some raffle type situation, but I didn't investigate that too close. I am very new to this hobby and did not to my research before buying from this store. And unfortunately I have gotten taken advantage of twice from this place. I will not support them again. First time I went for a lawnmower Benny. I honestly had no idea what they looked like, after getting it home, did some research and they sold me a orange spotted goby instead. I let that one slide because I didn't mind the fish. Then last week for their thanksgiving weekend sale, I bought a trachy, on sale for $180. Again, didn't do my research. Come to find out the trachy is bleached. Won't eat and stays closed. Would be nice if they had honest people working their. I called to see if I could return it for store credit or refund. The answer was no. So now I am just out my $180. Shame on me for not doing the research, shame on them for being dishonest. I hope no one else has this problem with them. read more

I was initially really irritated because the hours on yelp and Google are wrong. I even called before I came in and was not informed that the hours have changed due to Covid. The staff there was so amazing and accepting, they let me make a final sale because I knew exactly what I wanted and I had called earlier. 10 thumbs up for customer service. Also told to say Jo was the man of the hour! Pro tip: call and specifically confirm the hours!! Lol. From what I can tell it's an hour early on weekdays. read more

Horrible place, dead fish everywhere towards the end of the day. Employees don't tend to customers and ignore them as they chat amongst themselves. I bought a 20.00 fish that their employee stressed out chasing it with a net which lasted 3 days. They say they have a 7 day warranty to which they tested our water it was great then the employee tries to add a couple more drops of Nitrite test solution, then he says he's not giving a warranty. Stay away from this place as they'll just steal your money and find a way out of covering a warranty on their poor quality fish. read more

Very bummed by the customer service here as the selection of animals they have is pretty cool. First time purchasing from here and it went about as bad as it could. I purchased 3 Yellow Head Dwarf Geckos on Saturday November 4th at 6 pm. By November 5th at 5pm one of them was dead. I discovered it as I was leaving for work so I had to wait until Monday to bring it in. The receipt does very clearly state that there are no refunds and they will NOT help you out if something happens to your animal, but I figured I would bring it in just in case as every other pet store in the area (Even Petsmart and Petco) gives a 1 week warranty. After standing at the counter for a while we were greeted with 2 very friendly dogs but there were no employees anywhere so we decided to cut our loses and leave. If you plan on purchasing an exotic pet in the Hampton roads area I highly recommend Pet Paradise or Simply Pets. I have had hundreds of interactions with both and they never fail to ensure their customers leave satisfied. read more

My new go to spot for fish needs! Animal Jungle closing left a huge void for aquarium owners in the area... so glad to see this place pop up! They have only been open for a few months, and I'll bet they become HUGE once the word gets out. Good selection of aquarium supplies, they also have many LARGE aquariums with stands for sale in store. There are many large stocked display tanks at eye level for the kiddies that will make this store a fun destination before you even start shopping. As you can see from the pictures, they have walls of tanks with both freshwater & seawater fish and plants. Odds are if they don't have what you need they will be able to procure it for you. Frozen food also available. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Can't wait to go back! read more

I stopped into this store today while in town on business and I really wish I could have purchased something at this awesome store but couldn't because I cant bring the bag of water on the plane. I have to say this is absolutely the cleanest and most organized fish store I've personally ever been in and I am blown away by the amount of care given to these animals. If this store was in Ohio it would absolutely be my go to fish store. The fish selection and coral selection is kind of unbelieveable until you see it. Different employees checked in on us during our visit, which was very notable seeing as they were all working on normal shop upkeep/feedings/etc. while we were in. My first time there was recently. When I first walked in I was super excited! Then 95.00 later (which included 6 fish (that died within an hr after getting them home) and supplies, not so much. We explained that we had just set up a 75 gal, that we were interested in convict cichlids and that out ph was high. We inquired about ph down for our tank. We were talked out of that and into about $50.00 worth of fish. Long story short, we brought back dead fish, the receipt and a sample of our tank water. We had tested, tested and retested at home. We were told (after our water was tested out of our sight), that our ammonia was high and that other factors played into the death of our fish, etc, etc. I feel like we should've at least received half the amount that we had spent on the fish, but we received no refund at all. At home, my test(s) showed a very low ammonia problem (it was a new fishless tank set up). We are just returning to the aquarium hobby and I feel that we are intermediate hobbyists. We probably would have spent alot of money in that store on future visits, but they lost us as a customer. read more

Dom was very helpful and very knowledgeable. Great place for aquarium help. I went to Pet Smart and had my water tested. Pet Smart said my water was fine, but my first beta fish I bought from Pet Smart died. They said it was shock and gave me a new fish, which died the next day. Dom tested the water and gave me chemicals to treat the water for heavy metals, and told me to let the tank run another week. I came back and bought another beta fish, and he is alive and well three weeks later! Thank you Dominic! read more

I've been to the store several times for plants others don't have readily in stock. They are a bit more expensive, but I like the idea of supporting local shops rather than chains where possible. The staff has always been friendly and, up until recently, very knowledgeable. One a previous visit, I wanted a substrate that would not cause a mess and be reliable for a planted tank that might undergo design changes periodically. I was soled a substrate on a staff member's recommendation that did exactly what I did not want it to do. Based on the other very positive experiences, I ignored this one mistake. What happened today will caused me to not use Aquariums Unlimited any more. I went looking for plants to put into a new and fully cycled aquarium that contained only a moss ball and a few micro sword cuttings just starting to grow. My first problem was that some of the plants I was looking for the person I was talking to didn't know about and never heard of. As it turns out, they actually carried them, but they were out of stock. The plants I did purchase were packaged by the employee without water. They did fix this after I asked them to. The snail I purchased was only singled bagged so when it bit through the single layer, all the water in the bag emptied out into my vehicle. Not much of a spill mind you, but still not really desirable to have a few cups of tank water on your floorboards. I point this out since many other shops will double bag some snails due to this possibility. I know that every time you but plants, you run the risk of getting hitch-hikers like pest snails. On this purchase, I found what appear to be two pond snails. What has never happened to me when buying from other local stores like PetSmart or Care-A-Lot or even on-line retainers is to be given a plant or plants infected with planaria. Considering these plants are for a shrimp tank, and the fact planria can kill shrimp, this is a major problem. Even if this tank were not meant for shrimp, planaria would still be a problem. If planaria are on these plants, then they were most likely grown in a pond rather than a more desirable environment like an aquarium or the aquariums in question were infected. The plants will also likely have hydra on them as well. read more

I stumbled upon Aquariums Unlimited from a tip from another local pet store and was blown away upon entering. Their selection of freshwater and saltwater fish is unmatched in the are. I've had freshwater fish tanks for a long time, but marveled at their saltwater fish and corals...and walked away with a new tank, saltwater, live rock and other supplies for my first saltwater tank. I picked up my boys from their summer camp and went straight back with them. The owners and staff spent a lot of time with us and we're great with my kids. I've been back several times and was there for their 1 year anniversary party today. Even though it was packed, they were very attentive and several staff helped us with different things we needed from water for our tank to a new anemone. We also walked away with free frozen food, a shirt, and entered their raffle with all proceeds benefitting the Ronald McDonald House. We even one one of them. Recently returned to the hobby after scoring a 45 gal for really cheap. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a staff member (turned out to be one of the owners) who gave me a brief description of their layout, the employees and the inventory. He asked if I was looking for something in particular, stopped what he was doing to check, and they had it in stock! That's something that the other 5 stores I went to didn't accomplish. Lucky shot? Maybe not. They have beautiful fish, and a very nice set-up. They have a couple of "staff" dogs who were friendly, and it was nice to see them greeting other frequent customers dogs. I got a good vibe from this place. I was treated well, and not pressured at all. I felt welcomed and respected. I'll spend lots of money here. If you just want to see their super nice 900 gallon saltwater setup, and possibly even learn some things, I'm sure they won't consider you a waste of time. read more

This is a great store and I would recommend it to anyone in the hobby New or old. This store has a great selection of fish fresh water and saltwater. I recently bought a bio cube fish tank (saltwater) from them and along with all the ro water, live rock, fish, and coral. The reason I'm giving them a 5 star is because I really like their selection of corals. They have and amazing setup and even a $10 frag section with I great because I don't want to buy a $300 coral.
