The kiosk to print online tickets was broken, which meant everyone had to wait in line at the concession stand just to get tickets. Then, since we had not visited in a while, we were not familiar with the layout anymore. Our movie was in Theater 1, but the numbering/signage was unclear. We saw Theater 2, but there was no visible number for Theater 1 nearby, leaving us second guessing whether we were in the right place. Once inside, the theater itself felt very worn down. The seats were so worn they looked dirty, and there were no food trays. I did like how far back the recliners went, but the farther you reclined, the more a barrier in front blocked the bottom portion of the screen. We also paid for the Dolby sound experience because my husband appreciates good audio quality, and he immediately noticed that not all of the surround speakers were being used, particularly the rear speakers. That noticeably took away from the movie experience. Overall, this theater feels neglected and run down. It is disappointing to see what was once a thriving theater decline so much. Unfortunately, we will not be back.

And I wonder if attendance will be sufficient, it feels like people want a local movie theater but not enough of them actually want to visit it. And I was a bit surprised at the condition of the theater. Most significantly, when I watched Project Hail Mary yesterday, the image was very misaligned with the screen. At the top and bottom, it spilled beyond the screen by a good foot. And the sides, it fell short of the edges of the screen by a half foot. On the right hand side, masking material was simply missing from the screen setup. In a charming local theater like this, I'm not expecting big theater video and audio quality (and neither are, and both are adequate). But the setup last night seemed janky, so much so that it makes me less likely to visit again.

Even been here for late afternoon showings as well. Some people may think movie theatres are a risky business these days, screw 'em! I am a movie buff and love seeing movies on a BIG SCREEN. Buying tickets through their app is convenient and standard. It was very handy to just bypass the line and scan my own ticket right at the start time. Seats here are very comfortable and spacious, screen and sound were great too. Now for the movie; I must say, The Fantastic 4 is genuinely what Marvel needed, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is back! It was one of the BEST MCU movies I have seen since Spider-Man No Way Home. The story is perfect, the character building, the soundtrack, score, it set the tone for the ENTIRE film, it tied together the visuals and everything else. The playhouse, located in bucolic San Juan Bautista, was sold out. The play lasts about 80 minutes with no intermission. The physical layout was as a theater in the round with 4 tiers of seating surrounding the raised center stage. However much of the action was all throughout the theater. While primarily in Spanish, there was a sprinkling of English to assist the non-Spanish-speakers in understanding the plot. The leading actors were female with Luzbel being striking in her costume, acting and singing. As was San Michael the Archangel. Speaking of singing, there was a lot of it and it sounded good. The symbolism was well scripted and enjoyable to behold. One part of the play that brought a smile to my face with memories was the use of a Pachuco and zooters from Luis's "Zoot Suit". A live trio provided great accompaniment to the play, never being too loud. This is a Christmas play that has seen many adaptations here, as well as around the Latino community, It is a biannual production for ETC, alternating with "La Virgen del Tepeyac", so you'll want to catch it before it closes on 21DEC25.
