First time visiting Prep's and it happened to be 4th of July weekend. It was hot out and there were large crowds on the beach and boardwalk, along with a wait to get into many eateries on the boardwalk. Staff did a great job pumping out pies and turning tables over quickly, so there was virtually no wait. We ordered two large plain pies and I had an unsweetened iced tea, which was huge. Our pizza came out not long after our order was placed. It was hot and not undercooked. Prep's has very good, classic boardwalk pies. I've had plenty of pizza not nearly as good as this was. I thought the prices, for being on the boardwalk, were fair. Our server was kind and did a very good job considering the circumstances with the crowds on a holiday weekend. At no point did we feel rushed. While it's not my favorite pizza, I would definitely visit again if I happen to be on the OC boardwalk. read more

Ordered a whole pizza to go. Paid and my husband gave a tip. 30 minutes go by as we stand there waiting when we asked one girl if it was almost ready. She said any minute. Another 15 minutes go by and about 6 people working there are looking at us and quickly looking away. Nobody coming to say what was taking so long, just ignoring us. So we ask again and the old lady that took our order said with a nasty tone, "they gave your pizza away to a table so they are making a new one" She didn't even look at us as she spoke and no apology or anything. Like she was disgusted with US! So we waited almost an hour for our pizza and it wasn't worth the hype after all. They need to be given some customer service training or something. Still the G.O.A.T. Pizza on the boardwalk with their working man's two slice and small soda special. These slices coming out of the oven reheated are super crispy with the pounded thin just like a chicken cutlet. The flour crust hits nicely and counters the boardwalk style of a swirl of sauce on top. Line moves quick and they are really on top of everything. A must go to! read more

Damn! This pizza is good. I watch how they make the pizza, which starts with the cheese and then the sauce. A little different than how we do it in New York. The pizza is on point which is kinda different because New York has the best water. I really enjoyed the pizza here. The turn around is so fast, there is never old pizza sitting in the window. At $3.25 a slice is worth the price. There is plenty of staff to take your order and serve up the pizza. I wonder how many pizza pies are made in one day of business. Preps is an Ocean City staple and a must-stop on every trip to the Jersey Shore! Trying to hit all the pizza joints on the OC boardwalk this year. This isn't the best but it's decent. Sat at the counter for two quick well done slices. Wait staff is very nice but kind of a young squad. Like 14-16 young so I was very skeptical on their skills. The dough is pretty basic with no wow factor. Sauce is a savory tasting gravy with decent tanginess. Very crispy from the oven which is how we like it. Price wasn't horrible at all for slices but wasn't the best we've had so far. Preps only has one location on the Ocean City boardwalk, but it is well lit, clean, and beautifully decorated with Ocean City pictures and Preps memorabilia. There are booths, tables, and plenty of counter space, plus a few tv's if you want to watch a Phillies game. I stopped in twice this past weekend with my 8-year-old son. The pizza I had was was divine - some of the best pizza slices I've ever had. Perfect crust that was soft with just the right amount of crunch, and the perfect ratio of cheese/sauce/pepperoni. Any review of Preps (or any pizza place in Ocean City for that matter) is going to draw inevitable comparisons to Manco and Manco, which some would call the king of boardwalk pizza. While I do love me some M&M, Preps comes out on top in so many categories. The crowds at M&M are enormous; the vibe at Preps on the other hand is so much more laid back and what I picture a shore town pizza joint should be. The staff at M&M always feel frazzled due to the crowds as they run around trying to keep up; the staff at Preps greeted me both times within seconds with a friendly smile. M&M charges pretty outrageous prices for a slice while Preps is much more reasonable for equal quality, in my opinion. I highly recommend giving this place a try! read more

Classic boardwalk pizza joint. Probably one of the more popular ones we walked by along the boardwalk. We sat at one of the booths as a party of 5 and were served quickly and efficiently. Ordered french fries, meatball pizza pie, and steak and cheese stromboli. French fries never came so we ended up cancelling that order. The steak and cheese stromboli is more of a calzone than a stromboli. The pizza was fine. The toppings were tasty but the bottom crust was a bit overdone and wasn't conducive to being folded and eaten and more conducive to cut up the roof of your mouth. read more

Easily the best pizza place on planet earth, the variety is so good with no misses on the perfect menu. Been coming to the shore my whole life and always went to Manco and Manco's but their prices are getting outrageous and I knew there was other good pizza options on the Boardwalk that I just hadn't tried. We always go to Steel's Fudge right before leaving so Prep's is conveniently right next door. Just got a plain pie to go. Price was reasonable and they have birch beer, winnnn! I really like the sauce they use! Crust was nothing to write home about but overall a delicious pizza, and one more affordable than Manco's. We have been going to Preps for years, we have always loved the place and are very loyal customers, so much so that my wife has three Preps t-shirts, we even have a Preps sign on the wall in our kitchen. My question is this, why did they change the way they make pizza? Preps pizza used to have a really soft crust with the sauce on top of the cheese in a swirl pattern, it was perfection. We finally got down there last week, the pizza we had was a big disappointment, it made just like so many pizza places in Jersey makes it these days, no uniqueness. The bottom was way over done, the crust would crack if you folded it over and it was greasy as all get out. Why did they mess with perfection? We waited all year to get down there and were very disappointed with what used to be the best pizza on the boardwalk, hands down. We still love the place, the staff is super friendly and the ambiance is fantastic. I was just curious why they changed the way they make their pizza, I really hope this is something new that they are temporarily trying out and it is not permanent. I decided to try Preps Pizza today. I've been a long time fan of Manco and Manco and 3 Brothers on the OC boardwalk. Been passing Preps by for as long as I remember....thinking would a Dairy Bar really have good pizza? Eh probably not, I'll keep walking. Then last week I saw Dave Portnoy visited Preps during his time on the jersey shore and gave a really competitive review to Manco and Mancos (7.3) Preps (7.1). I had to try it. We got a Plain cheese pizza and a slice of cheesesteak pizza. The people I was with are hardcore M and M fans. Everyone in my party including me thought the plain cheese pizza definitely gives M and M a run for their money. Two people even mentioned they prefer preps crust and sauce over Manco and Manco. HOWEVER, the cheese steak slice was embarrassing. Reference my photo. Plain slice with scattered bits of steak and onion. This is NOT a cheese steak pizza, not by a long shot. The taste was subpar, the steak and onions ruined the simplistic nature of the plain slice. I was super disappointed and hence the reason for 4 stars. Recap : I wouldn't have eaten here if it wasn't for Dave Portnoy, I am glad as their plain pizza was good and I would definitely get it again. Prep's is an old-fashioned pizza parlor on the Ocean City boardwalk. But it is not 'the' pizza place.  That legendary and long-lined pizza establishment on the OC boardwalk is a block away.  So what does this mean?  Well you can usually get a booth or counter seat at Preps and not wait very long for a pizza.  Okay - it's not the best pizza in the world and it's not as awesome as 'the' pizza a block away, but when you are looking for a quick snack on the boardwalk, Prep's is a good bet.  A Pennsylvania birch beer is the perfect accompaniment.  The staff are friendly and the retro atmosphere is cool! read more

They had a sign that they've been open for a realllllllly long time. I had no idea they were ever even there which is crazy because everything is BRIGHT ORANGE...and I mean, BRIGHT! They have one single bathroom with a door that locks (like in a house) so you can imagine how long the line is, how much use it gets and how clean it is. I ordered two Sicilian slices with mushrooms. They weren't worth the calories so I ate the first piece because I was hungry and threw the second one away. The pizza was probably cooked three days ago (I'm exaggerating but my point was it wasn't fresh and it wasn't good). They threw on some uncooked, flavorless mushrooms that were probably from a jar? They didn't even add cheese on top and try to melt everything together. They maybe put it in the oven to heat it for 30 seconds...maybe! It wasn't even remotely warm. It was truly disgusting. This is why I don't ever order pizza by the slice but there wasn't anything else I wanted and I didn't have anyone to split a full pizza with. I'm giving two stars because my friend liked her tuna salad. My other friend got pepperoni bread which was actually hot, fresh and good so that earns the other star. Our friend said she's had it before and there was much more pepperoni. It was basically pepperoni Stromboli. I, personally appreciated that there wasn't much pepperoni on it because I prefer less. It was VERY cheesy...which is always good. The kids split a full pie. It looked really good. Much better than my pizza. I'm not sure how it tasted. I was over mediocre boardwalk pizza when a server at a local eatery recommended this spot to my aunt. As my party of three made our way down the boardwalk, I checked Yelp and found a bunch of positive reviews. Score! We were warmly greeted and told there was no wait for bar stools but a 5-minute wait for a table. We weren't too concerned until we sat at the stools for a little bit and all had backaches, but the servers were totally hospitable letting us switch to a much more comfortable booth after ordering. The three of us decided to split a full pizza. I also ordered a Dr. Pepper for the first time in a LONG while. I missed that stuff! Our pizza came out hot, crispy and covered in a perfect balance of tomato sauce and cheese. It was seriously delicious! I wish I hadn't filled up on a boring hot dog and subpar pizza slice earlier in the day. I would've snagged more than one slice! The atmosphere here is, as you can expect in OC, very family-friendly.
