I'm not thrilled about paying $14 for a very sad, skimpy "Cobb salad" that had wilted iceberg, barely any chicken, barely any egg, and no blue cheese. Grabbed a burger here the other day that was pretty tasty. I got a basic order of a single patty burger with bacon, pickles, tomato, mayo, cheddar. On a whim I also add chips (on the burger not as a side). Everything was good with a couple of nice surprises. The bacon flavor really came through. They use thick cut smokey bacon. And the chips surprisingly added a nice crunch and flavor that I wasn't expecting. I thought it would be more of a novelty thing. The burger was on the small side, but it was ultimately satisfying. After exploring Phillip Johnson's glass house, we wandered the streets of New Canaan center looking fora quick bite to eat. Found Station eats and gave it a try. I had their veggie burger, the hubbie went for his standard: grilled cheese. I liked their house made veggie patty: hearty and not at all like those flimsy hockey pucks from the supermarket freezer case. The grilled cheese was nothing special. This place is awful. The burgers themselves were mediocre because of how overpriced they were--Five Guys near Westport does it better and cheaper. No competition. But the lone star is because of the service. This happened with the guy who has a tattoo on his arm... I've lived in the Deep South for most of my life, so I know racism when I see it (I'm black). The server/cook I had was just awful. I could tell something was "off" when I initially made eye contact with him (he then avoided eye contact until the end). His body language and general demeanor became slightly hostile. When he was giving me back my change, he literally dead locked eyes with me and practically dropped the change on the counter. That has has literally never happened in my life, at least not without some apology or even mild acknowledgement. He watched me pick it up. There was practically no one else in there at that time...except for two brown, clearly "ethnic" looking kids (who he also treated like shit). No excuses. Avoid completely if you don't look as if you stepped out of a Vineyard Vines catalog. read more

But I always get takeout due to smallness of the space. I'd like to sit there and enjoy lunch freshly made rather than takeout, but the seating is limited unless it is warm enough to sit outside. I love the burgers! The fact that they use organic and natural ingredients is a plus. I always indulge in the cheese fries (tip if you're getting takeout: ask for the cheese on the side, or they'll be soggy before you get home.) Decent prices as well and staff is always friendly. Very odd set-up, on a crowded day it's near impossible to view the menu without getting reprimanded by the workers to get back in line. The service was rude and disrespectful. Once we were forced back into line while trying to crane our necks to view the menu, the server sarcastically goes, "So are you gonna order something or not." I have been going to Station Eats since it opened, and the food was pretty good. Unfortunately, the last time I went was so bad I felt I had to write a review about it. As a Senior in high school, it's not unusual to go to town for lunch. My friends and I decided on Station Eats (under MY recommendation), but when we got there the owner was rude to us from the moment we walked in the door. He got mad when we took a second to look at the menu before ordering, was impatient and snippy when we told him our orders, and all around treated us poorly. This came as a huge surprise to me, as the employees have always been extremely friendly, and it made the owner and his business look terrible. After the uncomfortable experience, I paid around $12 for a burger that really isn't anything to write home about. With so many other restaurants and deli's that provide good food in the same price range/cater to the same audience, Station Eats really can't afford to lose customers because of attitude. I for one will definitely not be spending my money there again. read more
