I hope that this review helps others who are considering using Prestige Car Rental and will help to convince to take your business elsewhere. The business is truly unethical, unprofessional and not worth the risk of dealing with. I'll include my experience below but for those not interested in reading the details, please just know that you business should be taken elsewhere. Full disclosure: I do not receive any commission from recommending the following company. I am only doing it to hopefully dissuade others from using the garbage Prestige Car Rental Company. Please note that a manager never returned any of my phone calls or attempted to discuss this experience. I was completely ignored and no contact was ever made. Dear Prestige Car Rental Management, I am writing regarding a recent experience I had at Prestige Car Rental; I have been a customer multiple times now and I am writing to hopefully give an opportunity to right this wrong regarding my most recent rental experience. I made an online reservation on June 20th for a compact car on June 29th. I immediately called the office after placing the reservation that same day to inquire if I needed to put down a deposit in order to confirm the reservation.  I was told by a young man in the office that I did not need to supply a deposit and that the reservation was good. I received a confirmation e-mail on June 27th, two days before, to confirm the reservation.  Then, the night before on June 28th at 4:30pm I received an e-mail saying the reservation had been cancelled.  I called off the office and spoke to Cindy that same night who told me that I should have put down a deposit and that all the vehicles had been booked; there were no other cars except for a cargo van.  Having no other option, I was forced to rent a work cargo van for the day which ended up being more expensive than the compact car I originally reserved.  Further, I had to drive to CT with my 7 month pregnant wife to our own baby shower -- my wife and I were incredibly uncomfortable the entire way.  When I arrived in the morning to pick up the vehicle, I noted that there was a customer in front of me who picked up the compact car that I initially had a reservation to rent. I believe it was unacceptable that my reservation was cancelled with less than 16 hours notice the night before I was to pick it up just to hand off the same reservation to a customer who likely had a longer trip booked. Furthermore, I see on the Prestige website that customers incur a $100 charge if they no-show for a reservation.  It seems very unfair to me that customers are expected to pay this fee for a no-show; however Prestige Car Rental is seemingly under no obligation to offer the same courtesy when they behave the same way.  I believe that I should be entitled this same $100 credit for my next booking with Prestige. If a deposit is required to secure a rental then it should be asked for up-front; I would have been very happy to pay this and, in truth, it would have saved my wife and I a huge inconvenience if it had been asked for up front. read more

The worst experience ever!!! Do not rent cars from them, I will tell you why. If I had checked the reviews bellow, I wouldn't have to be going thru what I am right now. I rented a car June 4th and they have hold it $1,000 out of my husband's account. We have called many times and they haven't returned its June 18th Now! And nothing has changed. I paid $450 to rent a car and got a flat sitting in a parking lot. I didn't notice the tread was COMPLETELY WORN OFF when I took it out of the garage, but obviously saw when I put the donut on. I called to express my frustration that they would have rented out unsafe equipment (the auto mechanic's words, not mine) -- then they told me I had to pay for the repairs. This place does not maintain they're vehicles, then tries to get their customers to do so for them. Will NEVER rent from here again. Would give 0 stars if possible. Cindy is rude and unhelpful. UPDATE - they lived up to my low expectations by calling me 2 days after I returned it to pay for a new tire (after I had to pay out of pocket to plug it) because it was worn out... as if my week of driving would have worn the tire that low... this place is a joke. I wish there was a lower rating we can give, as this place is HORRIBLE. In short, DO NOT RENT FROM HERE! PERIOD. They will draw you in with the low prices, but you get what you pay for. The first time we rented from them it was for a cargo van to move items. The truck was falling apart, the wheel wobbled, the inside of the van was torn apart, and overall we were scared for our safety. We complained when we returned the truck and they just brushed it off. We attempted to rent an SUV from them this week. We booked a reservation in advance for an 8 am pickup. We were running late, they called us at 9 am and told us they released our SUV, and now we have to rent a full size car for more than DOUBLE the price. We needed the car, so we went to rent the car. We arrived and there was a line. As we were waiting the Manager came out of the office and started berating the worker that handles the car. Screaming at him that he was dumb and not listening, and dropping F bombs at him left and right. It was uncomfortable and not professional! When we finally get to the front, we explained the situation to the Manager and he said pretty much it is what it is, that it was not his fault we were late. We said that this is not acceptable, and that this will be the last time we book with them. His response was "well in that case we don't have any cars for you to rent today". We walked away and went to AVIS, which was a MUCH better experience. DO NOT rent from here and that manager needs to be fired for how he treats his employees and customers. read more

On July 27 Weekend we rented a Chevy for the Weekend. Car was midsize and ran just fine. Returned it without incidents and we continue to be very satisfied with the condition of the cars- The service we get from Cindy and the Convenience of renting a car in our building- we live in this building. I don't understand the low rating! I use Prestige, Zipcar, and Hertz interchangeably, depending on how long I need a car for. No complaints with Prestige. Sure, the web interface isn't super slick, and the garage office needs a makeover, but otherwise the cars are clean and functional and service fast and professional (unlike Hertz). The cargo van rental is also a great deal if you ever need one, they are super clean and fun to drive. read more

It's cheaper than most places in Manhattan. The customer service people at the desk are as nice as they can be with how busy they are. The guy that checks out the car in the garage with you is borderline rude. He does and says the most minimal amount to you. So between those two things I would only come back out of necessity if other places were booked out. Take that as you may. I rented that comfortable mustang, which was great because of the warm weather but the car itself was pretty scratched up and an older model. read more

The only reason I rented here rather than my usual business travel companies was that I needed a van, and they had one. Customer service is horrible, while I was picking up my vehicle, another customer came in, was not acknowledged in any way (two people in the office, but texting is much more important) and after 20 minutes - yes it took a good 20 minutes to find and complete my reservation - he walked away - no one had even acknowledged his existence other than me. The staff are slow, indifferent and borderline rude. On top of it all, the vehicle they rented me had an expired registration which resulted in a ticket, which means a whole new series of calls and poor service I'm just now undertaking without much hope. Spend the money on a more professional brand - it isn't worth the $30 - $50 price difference. Hell, it isn't worth a $100 price difference. WORST. Rental. Service. Ever. I rented a car here because the rate quote was the cheapest. "Prestige" actually charged a much higher rate than I received online in my reservation, even though I brought a print out of my reservation with me. The next higher quote (Enterprise) was only a few dollars a day more and would have come out cheaper in the end. As other users have mentioned, false advertising and horrible customer service. They tried to pass off a car with less than an 8th of a tank of gas in it after the weekend of Hurricane Sandy (think massive gas lines all in and around the city). Got a different car and had to redo all the papers. Get in the car and drive a few hours - the thing shook like a leaf the entire way and sounded like it needed service. After we return it, they charge an additional 110.00 bucks to my credit card. Call and ask why, they say we turned it in late. I say I am 100% confident that I turned it in on time (I am). They say they have to "check the tapes" and only the manager can do that and to call back tomorrow. Follow up: Have called back 4 times over 4 days and each time met with a different excuse as to why they have not reimbursed me. read more

Pros: 1. cheaper than any of the "brand names" 2. decent pick-up location 3. reasonable turnaround time Cons: 1. as others have mentioned, the gas level is a real issue. My tank was 2/5 full when I picked it up. Try replicating that at a gas station on your way to return the car. If you're like me and would prefer to spend extra at the gas station than risk paying $7.50/gallon when you return the car, this results in a vicious cycle whereby Prestige gets free gas from its renters. 2. the car was dirty - sticky drink holders, one of the radio station buttons was so sticky it became hard to change to another station. You get what you pay for. An SUV weekend rental for $300 is depressingly a bargain in NY, so I would rent from here again. read more

Didn't have major problems but the rates are deceptive. If you return the car after 5pm on Sunday they will charge you a full extra day. There is no hourly rate and the cutoff is strategically placed to charge an extra day for weekend rentals. Before handing over the keys they make you sign a credit card slip with no amount specified. This is the next thing to signing a blank check. I remember signing these slips in the past but that was 10 years ago or more. This is not how business is done today. The cars I rented were fine, no worse than Enterprise or other major rental companies. read more

This place is very shady, you book an intermediate car and they tell you when you get there that they only have van or a huge tank like jeep!!! ....I called in the morning before going there and they didn't say anything about not having the car, and my friends got there like 39 min before I did and they still didn't say nothing about not honoring our reservation!!! We ended up with a very uncomfortable car to drive. Additionally it was half tank !!! Everyone knows how hard its to fill half tank. Also watch out, their parking is very dark so u really can't inspect the car there ! I give one star just because the lady did give us 5% discount but still very very shady ! I read a lot of bad review but I have to say I have rented from this spot around 6 to 8 cars and all have been in good shape. The people in the office are very nice and I always joke with. I rented a car from them this Sat and Lily was the one that took good car of me and I was in and out with my car in 15 min.. And the guys that give me the car always give me the car outside In the sun so it is very easy to see the whole car and look for damage. I would rent from them all the time. read more

I had a reservation at the 33rd street location for pickup on August 9th at 8am. I arrive to find out from the garage attendant that the prestige location was shut down a few weeks ago. I called the office at 8am and left a message with their answering service and never received a call back. This is all despite receiving a reservation confirmation email the day before. Only I can say DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY EVER!!! Real scammers...If you choose them because of the price you should try to go for other bigger companies! Their car conditions are beyond bad I've ever experienced. The cars are all damaged very badly around, suspicious noise coming from engine. Just return it right away! If you get a newer car by any chance (first you are lucky but not for long) be very very careful their tires are not blown up by reason - before take the car back expect that "tire low pressure "will appear on the dashboard so they will try to blame you there is a nail in the tire so it will cost lot of money to repair...Also watch out for E-ZPasses during Covid. You can't pay at the cash booth during this time! Company will get the emails (we all know ezpass is $25) so they try to make you pay penalties $3-5/day plus additional charges when you are taking the car back!!! Please be careful and do not use this company if you don't want to end up argue with an unhelpful aggressive, bad attitude unprofessional guy behind the counter. Prestige car rental Aka Eurocar in St. Maarten is nothing but a scam company. Rented a car for a week in day two lost the keys they made us swap out the car for another even though there was a spare key available. Upon getting home our credit card was charged $1,000 for a lost key. Our credit card company was not helpful as a rental car company can charge for incidentals. They got away with this absorbanent fee cause "they can" no proof needed that they incurred such cost. They are in the business to rob people not to rent cars. I might add that all their cars wee damaged and not repaired. So I can now assume they charge their customers fees for "incidentals" and not even spend the money on the up keep of their cars. Where to start... my husband and I went to rent a car to take our son to college. I thought I was lucky because I had gotten a rental car at such short notice on a weekend. The whole transaction went on smoothly. The trouble begins after the car is returned. We were informed that the $500 hold would be released in 3-5 business days. I actually called my bank and they informed me that the hold was on the $500 until SEPTEMBER 20TH!!!! I called prestige and spoke with "Cindy" she told me if the money didn't go back into the account she would fax my bank. The 5th business day I called to inform her that it wasn't back in my account. To cut it short there is no reason for a merchant to have a 4 week hold on funds for no reason. read more

They canceled my reservation after I called to ask a question arguing the car won't be ready.

I will never rent from them again. The pricing was not cheaper than alternates as others have said. I'm not sure I have ever had to put a large deposit down on day one from any other major rental car companies. The car I received appears to have been in a severe accident (several dents one large dent almost as if the car had been rolled). I called customer service to extend the trip for a day and they never got back to me, we had to chase them down to benefit their own business. At the end they mentioned "severe" dog hair in the car and charged me $100. This is a nickel and diming technique, clearly they must not be doing great in order to get $100 extra dollars out of a small amount of dog hair. Would never recommend this place to anyone. Not one to give any bad reviews, but this is the worst car rental service I've ever had to deal with. We rented a car from them and the car they originally gave us was awful so we had to go back and get a new car. While driving this new car, there was a flat tire. We called Prestige to see what we can do/if they had road side assistance- they were not able or willing to help and said we had to get it fixed ourselves. On the phone, the men said we wouldn't have to pay for the day and we wouldn't have to pay for the flat tire. While stranded on the side of a road, we had to flag someone down and pay them to fix our tire. The man from Prestige then told us he never said that he would cover anything and completely lied and denied AND wanted to charge US for the tire that was completely bald and never should've been on the car, but if they had technicians who checked their cars they would know that. Then, we ended up not only getting a charge for the day, but we got additional charges. I still had to pay for a day of the worst experience with a terrible company. Cheapest place I was able to find online. I had requested they reserve one of the two models they carry (Focus and Sentra), and when I first arrived they told me that they only had Focus available. I reminded them that I had asked for a Sentra in writing when I made the reservation and again on the phone the day before I picked the car up, but at first it looked like I was SOL. In the end I was able to get a Sentra, supposedly because one was being returned at that moment. Other than that, I don't have any complaints. They were fairly professional and the car itself was clean and in good condition. I'd use them again. read more

The day before I was suppose to pickup the van, I was called and told that they won't have one available (after receiving a confirmation that there was one available), completely messing up my move that was scheduled. I just wanted to write this review as a warning to anyone thinking that Prestige is comparable to any of the other rental chains. It is not. If you examine the website, buried way down at the bottom in their FAQ, you'll see that they only rent cars for use in New York and the surrounding areas. This is made clear nowhere else on their site, which is designed to look like a regular car rental chain. I had to reserve a vehicle at the last minute to go to a funeral out of town, and since Prestige came up on Kayak along with the other usual suspects (Enterprise, Hertz, etc.), I decided to reserve with them because it was the lowest rate I could get without traveling to the airport. But surprise, I woke up the next morning with an email saying that my rental for that day would not be honored because of the distance. This was a complete surprise and shock to me, and I had to scramble to make a new reservation in order to go to the funeral. Talk about added stress. Prestige needs to make it very clear on their website that they are NOT comparable with other national car rental chains and that they do not rent outside of a small area. So absurd. read more

This place has one of the lowest rate for rental, mon-thurs, for a compact car, the daily rate is around 47bux and the hourly rate from mon-thurs is $7 and $9 on the weekend (fri-sun). The hourly rate is great as you don't have to sign on membership unlike zipcar, mintcar or connect by hertz. But prestige only has 2 locations in manhattan, so i guess they can't really charge too much. I gave them a call an hour before heading over, and the lady who answered the phone, she was very helpful and gave me all the information, such as advising me that if i am charging the rental to major credit cards, i really don't need to buy the extra insurance since major credit cards will have the coverage. For hourly rental they will also hold a deposit of $500 on your credit card or $1000 if it is on debit card, and they will refund that back to you once you returned the car. I have returned my car yesterday but yet to see the deposit back on my car yet.. For compact, I got a nissan matrix, pretty decent i think. Their cars don't come with EZ pass as well. Getting the rental paper work done was fast, i was in and out of that place in less than 10mins! I would rent again since they are nearest to me comparing to other carshare locations. read more

Stay clear of this company!!! Their cars are dirty and in dis repair. Spend the extra couple of bucks to rent elsewhere. After receiving a car, which was dirty...started to drive it to our destination..didn't feel like a smooth ride and felt there might be something wrong. after checking tires at gas station nothing seemed to be wrong. On the trip back the tire blew out on a VERY busy expressway, nope we didn't hit anything and I know this because where we were had shoulders not curbs (they claim we hit something). It was a worn tire! I changed it on the highway, because we couldn't get anyone at Prestige or a garage to come help. Not only did they charge us full price, they are charging us for the tire. A while ago I rented a car here and return as it was. A few weeks later I saw a charge on my credit card of $350 from prestige. I called and was told that the gps unit had not been returned. However I did return it as it was in the screen when I left the car. Either an employee stole it or the company is plain crooked and stealing from customers. Prestige had cheapest option on the net. Had some questions before picked up the car - they promptly answered the phone. At the office there was a small line - but the girl at the desk - Amy - is super efficient and had everything moving fast. She also gave me a discount on the car as a first time customer (!) and advised not to get insurance - since I have AMEX coverage (i totally forgot about that one). Really nice, right? At first this place was ok, lower rental price than other rental spots and the service was fine, nothing special. Six months after my car rental, I received a phone call from Prestige asking me how I'd like to pay for my $80 bill from apparently running a toll. I kept asking for proof because I remember stopping at each toll passed, but they refused to email or snail mail me any paperwork. Instead they offered for me to pick it up in person or they could fax it (who faxes?!) or I was to call EZ Pass on my own. I told them I wanted to speak to a manager and they said they'd have him call me back, he never did. Fast forward two weeks later and they charged my card WITHOUT my permission. I filed a complaint with my credit card company and thankfully they took care of it. Could't believe they charged me without authorization or prove of any charges. I had a reservation for December 27th, and on November 27th I received an email from them saying that they CANCELLED my reservation (!) because they could not honor it. When I called, they said that they cannot be sure that they will have a car because people keep cars they have rented over Christmas. That's BS. I just think they did not like the rate I got through Kayak.com. Now I'm up the creek without a car for an event that I need to get to, unless I pay 4 times the price. read more

FRAUD ALERT!!!!!!! Worst and fraudulent car rental!!! I made my reservation two months ahead to lock in an SUV for long weekend. They emailed me told me that the reservation is cancelled because they don't have the car. I immediately email back asking them if I get just get a different car. They told me to call back at the office. When I called back, they told me that I can get a full size car but the price is twice of what I booked. So they cancelled because of their fault, without consulting with me, and now telling me that to get a downgraded car I need to pay twice the price??!!!!!! This is FRAUD!!!!! I'm not the only one having this experience with this company, judging by the review. This looks like a common practice for this rental company to scam your money. I've filed consumer complaint to the government as this is dishonest, fraudulent business practices. STAY AWAY from them. read more
