According to the Expedia description, you're supposed to call them for pickup. Sounds simple enough, right? I called their number ten times in a row -- no answer. After getting nowhere, I gave up and paid for an Uber to their location, which is about 4 miles from the airport. When I walked into the office, it was a complete ghost town. I waited about five minutes before someone finally came to the front -- and they had a smug, unprofessional attitude from the start. My rental was already prepaid through Expedia, but then I was told I needed to pay nearly $700 just for insurance for four days. I have Progressive insurance, I'm in my 40s with a clean driving record, a valid driver's license, and major credit cards -- and somehow that still wasn't enough. Between the lack of shuttle service, no one answering the phone, the surprise insurance charges, and the terrible customer service, this was hands down one of the worst experiences I've had with any company -- especially in Florida. When I arrived, I discovered the rental was actually being handled by APM Rentals. Instead of paying the remaining balance I was expecting, I was presented with numerous additional fees that were never disclosed during booking. I also paid for the unlimited toll package and a $500 security deposit. We returned the vehicle exactly as required, on time, with a full tank of gas, clean, and without any damage. We even took photos of the vehicle before returning it. A few days later, our $500 security deposit was released, confirming there were no issues with the vehicle. Then, six days after returning the car, APM Rentals charged my credit card an additional $467.15 without any explanation. I immediately contacted the company and was told no one could explain the charge over the phone. I was instructed to communicate by email instead. Despite multiple written requests, I have not received an explanation, an itemized invoice, or any documentation showing why I was charged. The most concerning part of this experience was not just the unexpected fees at pickup. It was being charged hundreds of dollars after the rental was complete with no explanation and no response from the company. If you choose to rent here, read every document carefully, take photos of everything, monitor your credit card after you return the vehicle, and keep copies of all your paperwork. Based on my experience, I would not rent from this location again.

To simply just charge someone's card with ZERO proof that the damage occurred while I had the vehicle. The employees who excepted the car have a responsibility of notifying you of damage. Budget rental excepted the vehicle from me without any cracked windshield. Some time after I returned the vehicle the windshield cracked. So they charge me which is extremely classless and shady. My friend from Europe was visiting for the week and wanted her own car to be able to get around. She originally tried to get a rental at the Tampa Airport, but they tried to make her pay an extra $300 for being international which was a hidden fee. Super shady. So, we decided to come to Avis and make sure they could help with a rental car for an international. The gal who helped us was super sweet and even called her manager to make sure it would be okay. We came back 2 days later and got my friend a rental car, no issues. Another gal helped us that day and was also really helpful. Then, once it was time for my friend to leave she was able to just take the car back to the Tampa Airport and drop it off there with no hitches. Trying to get services in the U.S. as a non-American can be overly complicated at times, but Avis made it very low stress. Since they are such a small lot it can be a little slow to get service if there's even a short line of people. But I do think it's worth it.
