We ordered the salmon with shrimp, Steak in Garlic Sauce & Portuguese chorizo for appetizer. The steak medium--it came out well done, dry, hard, and completely lacking flavor. Although we didn't complain, he ate as much as he could. The salmon wasn't terrible, it was OK the chorizo was delicious! For the price, we expected much more. There are plenty of great places with amazing steak in the area--sadly, this isn't one of them. I won't be returning. For the price. Service was fine, he was pleasant.

I have been coming here for years and watched it slowly--but unmistakably--decline. What I experienced on December 18, 2025, however, crossed every possible line of decency, safety, and responsibility. What I personally witnessed that night was repulsive and deeply alarming. There was open drug use and apparent drug selling happening in plain sight, treated as if it were completely normal. Even more disturbing, two men were openly engaging in sexual activity directly in front of other guests. People around me were visibly shocked and uncomfortable, myself included. This behavior continued in the presence of minors, who were dining with their parents. No establishment that claims to be a restaurant--or a place of community--should ever allow something like this to occur. I immediately brought this to the attention of the manager, expecting swift action. Instead, I was met with complete indifference. The manager did absolutely nothing. No intervention. No concern. No attempt to protect guests, families, or the basic standards of public decency. That lack of response was as disturbing as the behavior itself. What was once a fun and social karaoke environment has also been completely destroyed. The manager now allows anyone to access and interfere with the karaoke laptop. As a result, songs are routinely cut off mid-verse or mid-sentence simply because someone doesn't like what's being sung. It has turned what was once entertainment into chaos and hostility. To make matters worse, dangerous confrontations and fights appear to be common. The atmosphere feels volatile and unsafe. Frankly, this place feels one or two drinks away from a serious tragedy. The absence of oversight, accountability, and basic crowd control creates an environment where someone could easily be seriously hurt--or worse. This review is written as a warning. What Sagres Bar and Grill has become is not just disappointing--it is unsafe. Until ownership and management take immediate and serious action, I cannot recommend this establishment to anyone, especially families or longtime patrons who remember what it used to be. What once felt like a neighborhood gathering place now feels like a place to avoid at all costs.

Came here for karaoke on a Thursday night. The guy at the front desk was very nice and even gave us…read moreextra minutes, which we appreciated. There's also a large parking lot out front, so parking was easy and convenient. The rooms themselves were decent, but the karaoke setup definitely felt outdated and was harder to use than expected. There were two ways to select songs: using the Korean karaoke system or a Samsung tablet connected to YouTube. We ended up using YouTube, but the system was frustrating to navigate. The tablet had a thick film over the screen that made clicking difficult, and searching songs had to be extremely specific for karaoke vibes (for example, typing "Love Story KTV" instead of just the song name). It was also inconvenient trying to queue songs while someone else was singing because you had to minimize the current video to search the next one, making it hard for the person singing to follow the lyrics. On top of that, every time we tried adding songs to the queue, it would accidentally click into another video and cut off the current song mid performance. A lot of time was wasted just trying to search and add songs. It would be better if they allowed Bluetooth connection to personal devices instead, so adding songs would be more efficient, just a thought...

Volume Up is a place of LEGEND in Edgewater. It's been around for years - it's a cult favorite to…read morethe locals, and yet I've never experienced it until a few weeks ago. I suppose I am in the minority but...this is the most basic, bare-bones karaoke experience you can have! I'm saying this after going to luxury karaoke establishments (see my review for Tokyo Kitty in Cincinnati) and doing karaoke at bars for years. This establishment provides you with a room (a different size depending on your party), a mic, and a tablet with Youtube. The place has no ambience whatsoever. It is not just BYOB, it's BYOE - as it, BRING YOUR OWN EVERYTHING! You literally bring everything yourself - both food and drinks! To me, that is where Volume Up is really missing out, not just on the experience of the people, but also revenue. I can understand it being a BYOB to cut down on costs, but to offer no food at all? They have some canned / bottled drinks and snacks, and that's it. You can get delivery to this place but that adds an extra to your evening, and if you come here hungry you're SOL! (I would even take the reverse and order drinks here and bring snacks.) We were here with a party of about 12 people. The room was a little tight for us, but it suited us just fine - the next room up would have been a little more money. They have one AC unit for the room and TBH it got incredibly hot after drunk singing for two hours. Also, as I mentioned, the karaoke was literally a tablet connected to Youtube - and if you moved the table off of its holder, the cast disconnected and you had to get the desk worker. It's a cheap night out with friends! We had fun, the prices were fair, but if I were to go somewhere to get my karaoke fix, this wouldn't be the first place I would pick.

This space was/is in a word Amazing. We entered the space and was greeted by some awesome music & the lovely founder, who gave us a quick review of what to expect while walking through the space. The first interactive feature was the cool red carpet plus step & repeat featuring the name of the space(an ode to the 90's colloquialism "word is bond") Upon entering you can tell the founder was very intentional with the placement of each & every nostalgic piece of black art. It's a beautifully brilliant ode & execution of black culture, our layered nuances, our style, fashions, phrases, beauty & brilliance. This space is a content creation haven filled with endless creative possibilities. Naturally you'd think this was a pop up selfie museum, but it's much more. Not only is this space designed to go down memory lane of the 80's & 90's, you can see and touch some relic gems. You can rent the space for special occasions such as Birthdays, art showcase, book signing, just to name a few, the whole space can be transformed to fit your individual need. From the lovely living room set adorned with animal print wall paper, beautiful black art, quotes, a rotary dial telephone, a cozy couch with colorful throw pillows & last but not least a working record player with plenty of old school vinyl to set the mood. Making your way further inside your met with a wall covered with framed still photos of classic black cinema from the 80's & 90's. As your looking over your fav's, the founder ask's how many of the 24 movies can you name(an absolutely fun prompt). To your left a life size magazine perfectly named "Highly Melanated", to live out your fantasy of being on the cover of a magazine. A nostalgic bedroom scene featuring a wall covered in pictures of black stars from movies, music and iconic tv-shows. A wall covered with books from black authors(it's the intentional thoughtfulness for me). A spot dedicated solely to the one & only Queen Bee Lil Kim, with colorful fur coats, wigs & glasses to perfectly imitate our Queen. Since it's too hard to choose a favorite installation, because each & every one is amazing. I'll share that I absolutely loved the walls honoring black cinema and the opportunity to sit at a cute curated desk & write a letter to your younger self (there's that intentional thoughtfulness)you can leave the sealed letter for someone else to read or take it home! In a nutshell, this colorfully curated establishment is a must to experience & create fond memories that'll last for years to come. PS There's a lot more details, perks & installations I didn't mention 20+ to be exact. Word is bond tell a friend to tell a friend to come skip down memory lane & reminisce about back in the day!

A mixture of either old, sketchy, no sex appeal and rough around the edges. The dance floor was packed and the music was on point. There was some people that set up food in the back but it left a trail of an odor that was not appetizing. Drinks were ok at best but when I asked for a cup with ice it seemed to be an issue. Very off putting. Not quite sure what the issue was.... The bartender brought the manager over and I had to specify I wanted it for my beer. Yes, I'm a weirdo if I don't get a frosted glass, I'll take a cup with ice. The manager proceeds to ask me ; "So you want me to pour the beer into the cup with ice?" UMMM yes I don't mind pouring it my damn self but if it makes you more comfortable, knock yourself out. It truly didn't make a difference to me who poured it, I just wanted some damn ice to cool myself off! I'm not sure what type of sketchy and shady people they deal with but I am not the one. My boyfriend and I run a good tab on drinks, give me what I'm asking for and paying for! Meanwhile, I did not see just about any of the 30-40 people on the dance floor buy a drink. I then saw hookah's on a table and the price list. Unfortunately, they were not providing hookah service that night. So why have them out? Whewwww I love my house music community and love the Lincoln Park festival that is close to the bar but this past Sunday this bar and crowd missed the mark. The only redeeming factor was the DJ. I highly doubt I'd return unless it were to vibe out and dance to a DJ I reaaaaallly love.
