This place is the one place you don't want to skip when in Bozeman or passing through. Don't go to the other stops because they are maybe $2 cheaper. The quality is here at Primal Meat. We ended up going here late in our trip and I completely regret it. Everything we got was delicious! Better than a lot of the over priced restaurants in the area! I unfortunately have had to come update my review. The last couple of times i had gone in for a quick lunch, their prices had risen to above Whole Food's prices for their hot bar! I'm no longer able to come get my lunches here because they have moved so quickly up in price. I'm disappointed. I don't know if the quality of the food has gone down or if i'm just imagining it, but the meatballs have turned grisly and the chicken overcooked. The vegetables are also a little over cooked as well. I'm really bummed. I wish they had decided to keep their prices reasonable. read more

This was our first stop on our vacation. Very impressed with the variety and quality of the fish and meat options. They also offer prepared sides and salads. They also have a few rows of spices, pastas and sauces. We ended up with a couple of bison tenderloin, elk tenderloin, a couple of really big burgers, some coleslaw, roasted vegetables and baked beans with brisket. We also picked up a bottle of local BBQ sauce. Service was friendly. We enjoyed everything. Oddly enough, both their coleslaw and baked beans were unexpectedly spicy. Thankfully the roasted vegetables were not spicy. We enjoyed the meats. The only downside, we found the same BBQ sauce at a different store for $3.00 less than we paid. I'll admit that based on reviews and location (i.e., in a prime area for tourists heading to Yellowstone) I had my doubts, but I wanted to get some hamburger for grilling and my typical spot, Daniels, was closed. The hamburger was the best I've ever had, and I've had a lot of hamburger. Everything you'd want in a burger was there...right amount of fat, high quality meat and the grind was perfect for forming into patties. We smoked them on the grill and they were amazing. As others have noted, prices are high and I was a bit surprised to see a suggestion for a tip on the screen when paying, but I hear that's a trend these days. In some ways, Primal reminds me of the type of grocery story you'd find in the Napa Valley, stocked with all the things you'd want for a weekend trip. It's definitely not my thing, as a Bozeman local, but I was happily surprised at the quality of the burger. read more

We stumbled into Primal last night, tired, hungry, and cranky (we'd tried to get dinner at a trendy Bzn restaurant that doesn't take reservations -- 1.5 hour wait? No thanks!), and we discovered this unassuming little gem in our backyard. Gorgeous meats! Captivating delicacies! And indulgences! But best of all last night were the comfort foods: grilled sweet potatoes, Brussels sprouts, grilled chicken, and take-and-bake macaroni and cheese, pot pie... everything looked amazing and tasted even better. Overpriced meat, delicious fish! Watch out, I've been going here to save myself the drive into Bozeman for Steak because I thought "it's got to be worth it right?" It's not... Last straw was picking one steak out for the wife, and just taking the other the butcher grabbed like a idiot and not realizing until I got home the difference in quality between the two. $33.99lb for prime rib eye. They pulled the whole get the old stuff out on me when I wasn't looking, went back for a quiet return. I thought it would be obvious to them to. That didn't go well... Wouldn't take it back, I don't like to complain but it was a principle thing to go back and show them. Gorgeous gem nestled just off of Hwy 191 sitting adjacent to Bunkhouse Brewery. Maybe you sucked down a few to many at the brewery and wanna drive your motor vehicle (gas or electric) home but don't have any beefy steaks at home? Problem solved with Primal Meats next door. All the delicious cuts you crave are waiting inside. I prefer the bavette it's delightful, but the old lady insisted on the bacon wrapped scallops. That was also a solid choice. For a company BBQ, we somehow completely forgot to get food ordered ahead of time. Went into primal and they made 40 burger patties and got us 20 brats within maybe 20 minutes no questions asked! They told me it would be 30 minutes to an hour before they could get the order done yet still managed to get it done in 20 minutes. Awesome service. read more

Such a fun store! We were able to pick up everything we needed for dinner, from the juicy house-made burgers to the buns to the marinated asparagus and the side salad. Grabbed some stuffed grape leaves and pasta salad for lunch- the stuffed grape leaves were *divine*! They do custom orders as well, so we will definitely be back to order some fun cuts to smoke. Their seafood looks great, too. We are already talking about going back for some of their shrimp skewers and brats next time we bbq. A fantastic addition to the area, and when you're finished shopping, you can hop on over next door for a nice beer, too! read more

Well laid out with a nice variety for those wanting to find more than the usual box store choices or quality. O.M.G. some of best cuts, and presentation of them I have seen. We love Lamb, tried the premade burgers. Grilled to perfection, tasted good, not strong, some of the best I have had. Also, the Ahi was excellent, Sushi grade, went well as Hor-oeuvres The staff was friendly and helpful, offering good advice. This is on my place to go for that extra something when planning a special meal. Only drawback----(and a minor one at that) ---- entry can be a little confusing if coming from the west on Huffine. So, so, good! We got the Sirloin Flap with the house marinade, the Asian salad and Dijon potato salad out of the display case. Usually when we buy pre-marinated meats or salads out of a display we give it a little love. Didn't need to alter anything at all. It was all delicious. I was told to cook the meat to Medium as it is the perfect temperature for the specific cut and it came out beautiful. Perfectly tender. The kids went back for seconds on everything....so that's a definite win. read more

Love at first site? Yes, I have had it once with a man, and another time with Primal in Four Courners. I knew it the moment I walked in. My senses were freaking out- So much to see, the smells, BOARSHEAD-everywhere- More than what the crummy strores have too- And I had to myself a Vowel--OHHH my god-the Customer Serive is to die for- I would have offered one of the assoicates a job, but he was the OWNER! I tasted the lemon tarts-devine-hearing all about the products, I want to go back for more.
