The optometrist was excellent and the staff was nice. Unfortunately, in my case, I waited two weeks before I received my glasses. When I received the glasses there was no tint in them. From looking at my online status, it appears that my glasses were ordered a week after my eye exam. MyEyeDr re-ordered my tinted lenses, which also kept being delayed. As of today, I have still not received them. I also received no updates from MyEyeDr. I had to either call or go into the store for updates. In the meantime, I ordered another pair of glasses and lenses online, and received numerous updates from the online store. The glasses from the online store arrived in 10 days and were much less expensive and of equal or better quality. I would not buy glasses from MyEyeDr again, but I would see their optometrist. read more

So this was interesting. The receptionist behind the desk was shockingly dressed, definitely not office attire. Her black extremely low-cut t shirt was unprofessional, to say the least. She kept bending over the counter and I was sure a couple of things might fall out. The next lady that did the first exam and retinal exam was thorough and professional. The Dr. Did a quick exam and said no change to rx and just needed glasses for computer use...ok, so off to the sales pitch. So exam frames and scan total $49. Then she says a pair of the cheapest glasses is $218! No break down, no information we're like, what, wait! How did we suddenly jump over $150 bucks? She's like oh I added this...that..warranty etc Wait no! That's not what we expected to pay! So we insisted we only pay the $49 and leave with the RX. Communication severely lacking. We left thinking wtf was that? 2 stars because of second lady professionalism. read more

I'm new to the scene of eye care but as a 45 yo it was time. I had already dipped into over-the-counter reading glasses for about 2 years before I decided to haul myself in to see what all the fuss was about (because from my personal experience knowing those with prescription glasses...something is always going on about and I don't wanna join that club, however seeing clearly means more. I was put into the expert care of Optometrist Harpin (end of March 2024) and felt that my eyes were in good healing hands with him, that he understood my struggles and could relate to them as well. II pick up bifocals in a couple of weeks and happy I got that 1st appointment over with. read more

They were really nice and patient with me as I was frantic and scattered with my toddler in tow for my appointment. I hadnt understood the specifics of my insurance policy and ended up paying way more than I was expecting. When I called them after my appointment they were able to help me get a different contact brand on my prescription that met the insurance specifications and revise the bill to my insurance so that I wouldn't have to pay so much out of pocket, and they were working on that 45 min after closing which I so appreciate. It took such a load off of my shoulders to have that resolved so quickly. read more

Just moved here and had a great experience with the doc and employees and love my new glasses.

On 02/13/19 @ 2:45 I stopped by they primary eye care in holly mead area to get my glasses adjusted and the lens looked at that had developed scratches . I was advised by the eye care specialist that my year warranty had just ran out on the lenses. I advised the eye care specialist that the scratch proof coating that I paid for had started to come off prematurely. The protective coating should have lasted longer than a year . I would like to think that the owners of primary eye care would want their scratch treatment that we the customers pay a premium for to last longer than one year. I guess not. I was advised that they were not going to cover my lens under the warranty. Very very disappointing. I will not be back to get my yearly pairs of glasses at primary eye care. I should have never wavered from Keller and George jewelers in Charlottesville. They would have honored the warranty due to defective coating . read more

We had the best experience with the entire staff at My Eye Dr. Dr Harpin was able to make accommodations for our unique needs in such a timely manner. The entire staff went above and beyond to make sure our son was taken care of! He left with a huge smile on his face and I left with confidence knowing he was genuinely cared for. I selected Primary Eyecare because of their excellent reviews on Yelp. (We recently relocated here from California.) Due to poor eyesight since childhood; I have been seeing various eyecare providers practically my entire life. This was, by far, the most well-organized office, the most professional employees, the most thorough examination, and the most help in selection of eyewear I have ever received. One of the things that stood out to me was that NOONE did not spend as much time as was required answering my questions, or explaining what they were doing, or why they were doing it, or what the results were. A truly remarkable experience. Brittany handled all the pre-testing, Dr. Hanning did the examination, and Victoria helped me find the perfect frames for my new prescription. I regret that I do not know the name of the receptionist who was so helpful so that I can not give her the proper shout out. Making an appointment was easy and their confirmation email was extremely user friendly. The storefront is clean, well lit, and the displays make trying on frames very accessible. The doctor offices in the back are also well kept and relaxed feeling. The tech that I worked with upon intake was thorough and explained the purpose of the different components of the intake exams. I really enjoy understanding the "why" behind the process and the tech did a great job clarifying things. After that I met with my doctor and she was fabulous. I really appreciated how extremely thorough she was and how she paid attention to the minute nuances of my prescription. Even more, she then included a complimentary follow up to check that my new contacts were the right fit. I really appreciate how professional and nice the staff are! Primary Eyecare is great. The staff is friendly, prompt and helpful. I'm fairly new to the whole eye care scene, and I have always felt comfortable with them during my two years as a patient. The appointment is thorough and explained. Plus, they are happy to answer any questions. As far as picking out glasses, they have lots of options. They only thing that slows me down there is I was pretty particular about the color. But, I found some and they have been great. Plus, getting new lenses put in the a year later was easy. I'm currently on the search for new glasses, and they were happy to show me tons of options even though I opted to see what other options they had at the Barracks location. And, I know they will be super friendly there as well. All around, it's a great place. read more

The provider was wonderful but during my exam, a young lady walked in to hurry the provider up. I was quite taken back to the fact this company runs you through like a cattle heard to ensure they meet whatever productivity they have set. Then when I said we would be taking our scripts with us, she was rude. Not coming back here and I hope this sweet provider moves on to a more caring company. read more

Primary Eye Care came highly recommended to me by two friends, so I went there for my annual eye checkup and to get a new prescription for contacts. When I called to make an appointment, the receptionist was very helpful and even checked to make sure that my insurance plan included vision and that it would be accepted there. I was happy that their Hollymead location, near Target, was open on Saturdays and late on Wednesdays, so I wouldn't have to take off work for appointments. On my first visit, I had to wait about forty-five minutes from my scheduled time to be called for my appointment. The technician was extremely thorough and pleasant, and it was a great start to my visit. Once I was taken back to the exam room, I had to wait again for the doctor. She was extremely apologetic, and I figured this was a one time thing. She wanted me to try out some contacts that were maybe better for my lifestyle, so she gave me two different trial pairs. They seemed pretty short staffed in the contact department, so again, I ended up waiting about ten to fifteen minutes for someone to help me out. The billing process was taking so long, the doctor herself ended up getting the contacts for me. I scheduled a followup appointment for about three weeks later to check in about the contacts. I ended up having problems with both of the pairs of contacts over the trial time period, so I had to resort to wearing my old contacts. When they called to confirm my followup appointment, I asked how long it would take and let them know that I would like to reschedule if it would take longer than 30 minutes because I had another engagement later that evening. They assured me that followups were normally really quick with the doctor checking in and then writing the prescription. So, I kept my appointment. I arrived ten minutes early to ensure that I would be out of there on time, so I would be able to get to the next place I had to be. I waited and waited and waited. I even asked the receptionist about 15 minutes before I had to leave if I should reschedule. They ended up taking me back to the exam room 35 minutes after I arrived, so 5 minutes before I had to leave. They walked me back to an exam room, and I waited hoping the doctor would show up quickly. She didn't, so I ended up going back up to the front and letting them know that I needed to reschedule. They were apologetic and said I didn't need to and that the doctor could write the prescription and then email it to me. They then called me about 30 minutes after I left, which was frustrating because I had told them I wouldn't be available and that's why I left in the first place. I ended up having to call back daily for almost two weeks before a technician was finally in the contacts department and able to write the prescription for me. I only received a call back once during that entire time. I was on my last pair of contacts when I made my appointment, and then it took me five weeks to get a prescription from start to finish, which is totally unacceptable to me. Primary Eye Care seemed very promising and came highly recommended, but after everything, I wish I had gone somewhere else. Maybe the issue with timing is because it was on Saturday and later on Wednesday, but if they are offering those hours, they should be able to accommodate appointments in a reasonable time frame. read more

I had to get my lenses replaced and it was one error after another. First two were the fault of the lab, including holes that were drilled incorrectly. I was in last Friday hoping that the third time was the charm. Nope. The lenses were still off and the guy tried to adjust them and overstressed the bridge. The frames broke the next day. I went in today and after much back and forth, it was discovered that they had my pupillary distance wrong for my right eye. It was off by a full millimeter. So, they had bad information, tried to adjust the frames to fit bad lenses and wound up causing the frames to fail. The guy offered to cobble together some mismatched parts, but seeing how this was entirely their fault, I asked that they replace the frames which they wound up destroying. They refused. I've been a customer for about 15 years. At least they didn't argue about refunding the money I spent on the lenses. I made it clear (politely) that I was never returning. read more

I have been a patient at Primary Eyecare for many years now. Every time I go in, I am wowed by the staff. Everyone is pleasant, friendly, attentive and polite. They are extremely sensitive to your time needs while providing thorough care. They also are very receptive to questions...while many doctors of any type are not. We heard good things about this two-site eyecare provider - one on Barracks Road, and one in the Hollymead Town Center - and we selected the one on Connor Drive because it is near our Earlysville home. My husband had a perfect experience when he went. I had a slight problem with one lens, but when I returned to set up an appointment, they sat me down and cheerfully began a solution that same day. The staff were exceptionally professional and friendly, with attention paid to all questions and comments. They all seem to like each other and to enjoy working together to serve the public. It is difficult to diagnose a good Rx for my eyes. I've had a detached retina that left me with only partial vision in one eye, cataract surgery in both, and RK surgery in one. In spite of all of thse problems the doctors at Primary Eyecare have done a fantastic job of ensuring I get the best vision possible (actually really good vision in my good eye). I've used them for the past 5 years and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for great eyecare. read more

My recent experience with a new Eye Doctor was not favorable. The glasses made from the initial eye exam were "unusable". A second exam was scheduled. This exam yielded a prescription drastically different from the first exam. The second doctor was very surprised that the initial vision specialist had given such an "unusual" reading. The new glasses corrected the long distance but the readers were unusable making the bifocals unusable. (I just need the equivalent of Walgreens readers because as I get older, I need readers for close reading) I have now spent $150 for frames, $114 for extras, used my vision benefits for the next two years ($300) and spent over $150 for the exam and have ZERO usable glasses. Primary Eye Care will neither make good on the glasses or refund the vision benefit (or exam) so I can have the glasses remade. read more

I moved to Charlottesville in 2011 and have been going to the Barracks Road location, but having moved last May to Earlysville, Hollymead is now our closest option. Both my husband and I, in our early 50's, have been very pleased with the services provided by the techs and docs. All staff is courteous and efficient and we will continue to be loyal customers of this practice. The insurance explanation is very clear, the selections are numerous and the Lindt's chocolates they provide upon delivery of your glasses, is a nice touch and worth a pound or two in all the wrong places ... read more

This is the second time I've been here and I had a great experience. I probably sat in the waiting room for a total of 30 seconds before they called me back. The only somewhat negative feedback I would have is that you have to move around to three different places with different machines in the office before you finally land in the exam room that you will be seen in, which means you have to pick up your coat and purse and move around the office a lot without your contacts which is a little uncomfortable. However, the doctor was very thorough in explaining what we could do to improve my vision and about my eye health. The contact lens people were very good at figuring out how best to use my insurance benefits to get what I needed. They were very friendly and upbeat as well. The person I saw for my glasses was also very helpful and knowledgeable, both in finding fashionable glasses that looked good on me and that I liked, and in making sure that they were going to fit right and be comfortable for everyday wear. I have never been so excited when I left the eye doctor's office because we found a pair of glasses that were just so cute they made me light up every time I tried them on. I wear contacts every day and never thought I would switch to glasses, but I think once these glasses come in, I'm actually going to WANT to wear them, which is a BIG deal. read more

I started going to Primary Eyecare at Forest Lakes soon after they opened and have always received excellent service. It starts with a friendly greeting from the receptionist and I've never been kept waiting for an appointment. The doctors have been great at explaining what they were doing and are patient with the "which is better, this or this?" drill when determining my prescription. They offer a wide variety of frames and the associates in the optical department are also excellent at helping to pick out frames for a style challenged customer. read more
