the team at Primary Eyecare are AWESOME. The wait time for your appointment is normally short.They explain everything every step they go. Even if you are a long time patient. Being a diabetic they make sure that I know what I need to do and are there if I have any questions. The frames range from $99.00 up to $300.00 (name brand of course). You will find the same pricing everywhere else. It does help if you have the VSP Insurance to keep the costs down and allows you to get the expensive frames you want. I have been seeing Marc for the past 7 years and I have never felt more comfortable with a doctor. They even helped me adjust my sunglasses that I got from another company! Dr. Osias was excellent as usual, customizing my contact prescriptions for both eyes to allow for both distance and relatively good close up vision. Dr. Osias has always been willing to do the extra work necessary to go beyond the basic routine examination and prescriptions. The only problem with my first visit after the COVID-19 restrictions was that Tara walked up to me and took my forehead temperature before she put on a mask, which was a violation of guidelines and not appreciated. read more

I've gone here for a couple of years and it has been pretty good with the eye exam itself. The actual glasses themselves, lenses and frames, have been less than desirable. There is low selection and high pricing. On top of when I went to pick up my glasses the transitional they suggested caused me sea sickness and nausea. The distant and reading together is not a good idea. when I explained my discomfort it is like they did not believe me. I had to tell them over and over. I stated I didn't not want the reading part at all, that it is not the problem, the distance is. They still decided that a lower prescription for the reading might help, instead of doing away with it all together. I haven't picked up the new ones but when I do, I hope there is not a problem if I am not satisfied. read more

Ever since Primary Eyecare changed locations, I have seen this business go down the drain in a few ways. First of all, the staff. Wow. I can no longer honestly say it's the best customer service I've experienced in a long time. While I was greeted in a friendly manner, no one seems to know what's going on or how to do their job. The technician who took all my tests before the doctor saw me was clearly lacking in the IQ department. She came off as ditsy and clueless. She would ask me the same question twice. As for Dr. Chaiken, I am no longer impressed. Every time I see her (once a year), she greets me as if she has never met me before. I brought my daughter in for an eye exam 6 months ago and reminded her of this to jog her memory. I figured she would remember seeing as how they don't exam infants too often. At the end of the appointment, she told me the office does eye exams on children and to bring my daughter in. I had to kindly remind her, again, that I had already brought my daughter in and was told she wouldn't need another exam until she was 2. It just felt so disconnected and impersonal. This office ALWAYS pushes you to get glasses. It's definite pressure and seems to come first in priority over eye care. I'm thinking of taking my eyes elsewhere. I think I can do a lot better. read more

I've been coming to this place since when it was called Wild Iris. They used to have excellent customer service, but when the owner sold her practice to Primary EyeCare and retired, things changed. My family has experienced a wide variety of problems with the support staff. We've been called in multiple times to pick up glasses that hadn't arrived from the manufacturer. Once they actually arrive, some of technicians who adjust glasses frames seem to have no idea how to make your glasses comfortable. Occasionally, they will also make math errors while calculating how much your insurance covers, which is still done by hand for some strange reason. The front desk entered my email wrong and almost sent my prescription to another person named Kevin. I don't get to make these decisions in my family, but if I had to guess, I'd say that Dr. Dea is the only reason we haven't switched providers. He's friendly and kind, and explains his recommendations so that I have a better understanding of my treatment. However, if you aren't already coming here, I wouldn't bother. Trying to catch / work around their mistakes is too much of a hassle. read more

Dr. Osias.... was an awesome dr. He saw my father in law who had cataract surgery thru another place and didn't get any explanation. Decided to bring him to see dr. Osias and he was great. Patient and worked a little longer with my father and took the time to explain everything going on. Found out that he could better the prescription eyeglasses for him. My dad dont like doctors at all and he liked dr. Osias. Rachel the optician was awesome in helping him pick out glasses and gave him a discount for it all. I was disappointed because the staff would not let me look at the frames without an appointment with an expert. I would have made an appointment with an expert after seeing their selection. I like to see the selection before committing my time with someone who's job it is to sell the glasses and lenses and does not likely have my specific needs in mind. Save yourself the hassle and don't come here. My husband and I had an appointment. We got there 20 minutes before the appointment and they did not call me into the room until half an hour AFTER my appointment. BUT even after I was called into the room, I waited ANOTHER 30 minutes. That's 1 hour after my scheduled appointment! Our time is important too, but they obviously don't care about their patients. They also take a photo of your eye and mention nothing about it costing money. After the appointment the problems got worse. They have the worst staff here, they really have NO idea what they are doing and zero organization. They did not give us our prescription until after they got the old prescription. Wtf?? They had me call my previous optometrist to get my prescription. They told me they never received it, so I had to call again. What did I pay for??? This was the first time any optometrist had to get my old prescription. I also ordered contacts and they forgot to actually order them and I had to wait weeks. When they finally did get them, they never notified me, so I had to call again to check on the status. Furthermore, they refused to give us our PD value since we are not purchasing glasses through them. Also keep in mind, the receptionist is extremely rude and hangs up on you. But she seems nice when you are trying to schedule an appointment. TLDR: they suck in every way possible. read more

These guys are fun. I've only worked with Dr. Osias but I'm sure they're all great to work with. I actually found Primary EYEcare through my company benefits page. They had good reviews there and the office is just down the street from my house at a very convenient location. I was able to call and get an appointment set within the week which was very helpful. Wait time was less than 5 minutes when I arrived and the staff was very welcoming and friendly. They ran me through all of the standard tests and then I was situated in one of the rooms. Dr. Osias is very knowledgable and I am always fascinated to chat with doctor's and pick their brains. He was honest (both positively and negatively) and kept it real. He mentioned that my current prescription of contact lenses would probably be ok but he did mention that a new prescription may improve my vision slightly. He noted that a new prescription would mean higher costs but he didn't force that on me at all. We both agreed to stick with the same prescription that I've had for the last couple years. The receptionist, Lindsey (spelling?) was super friendly and put an order in for me. In 6 days I had 4 new boxes of lenses waiting for me in their office. Thanks guys! Pros: Convenient hours. They open early and stay open pretty late which is awesome if you work a typical 9-5. I believe they are open til 9 on select weeknights. -Beautiful office. Reception area has a nice aquarium and relaxing ambience. Free Nerds and Laffy Taffy at the counter doesn't hurt either -Knowledgeable staff and expert optometrist in Dr. Osias Cons: Can be expensive. I was looking for a new optometrist and came across Primary Eyecare. I saw Lindsay first. She was really nice and made you comfortable. She did a few tests and explained what each test was. Then I saw Dr Dea who was really cool. He checked my eyes thoroughly and made sure I was comfortable with my new prescription. They also have a variety of glasses to choose from. Lindsay was very helpful choosing glasses. She was very informative with the different types of glasses they carry and gave great recommendations. I love my new Gucci glasses she helped me pick out. Primary EYEcare is second to none! From start to finish and well beyond, my experience has been awesome! Visited the establishment for an exam and a new pair of glasses. Once I opened the doors of Primary EYEcare, I was immediately greeted by the receptionist. I told them about my appointment and they told me to sign in and have a seat in the waiting area. The waiting room decor is modern and very spacious. They have plenty of brochures and reading material for you to look at until you are to be seen. First....where my vision stood. My eye exam was very precise and thorough. I really appreciate the vast knowledge that was shared to me during my exam as it gave me a better understanding about vision health and eye wellness. Now....what frames to get. The sales representatives at Primary EYEcare were very nice. They took the time to listen and see what I was looking for as far as style, and price. They offer a wide variety of brand that will fit anyone's budget and they also offer additional options to maximize your overall vision correction. And finally....the pickup of my glasses. When I came back to pick up my prescription, the visit was just like my first, very welcoming and the service was great. The first couple of times I went here I loved it! The staff, Dr Gary, everything. I had an appointment the other day at the new place, I sat for 30 minutes and no one said a word until I was on my way out of the front door. I really hate people that waste my time. When clients or patients are waiting, they appreciate being acknowledged and kept informed of what their chances are of actually seeing the doctor that day. I liked the more relaxed atmosphere of the old place. Now it's just like every other place, too many people, no eye contact, they acted like they didn't really care when I walked out! I can't express enough how wonderful Dr. Oasis is. Dr. Oasis is very patient and through. He was great with my 7, and 8 year old. Made them both very comfortable by asking them about their interest and likes etc. Dr. Oasis also went over and beyond with my 14 year old, I was impressed with the care received. The office is very clean and updated which is nice. As wonderful as Dr. Oasis is, I sadly had to take a star away simply because of the receptionist. Both appointments, I noticed when calling and upon entering the building the receptionist isnt as welcoming or friendly as you would expect from such an establishment. read more

I've been following this company since Laurie Chaiken was in the Lucky shopping center. 25 years maybe. I really liked Dr. Levin but I don't think she's there anymore. I've heard that Dr. Dea is very good but never met him. Osias pressured me into paying an additional $30 for the retina exam, but the next time I went I didn't want it. He was not very happy with me and visibly changed his demeanor. Well, screw you. This was about 2 years ago. So, stupid me, I kept going there, even with their high pressure sales, appointment screw-ups, making me wait to get a copy of my prescription. What finally pushed me over the edge was yesterday I show up for my eye exam appointment 10 minutes early and the dear old lady at the front desk tells me that I'm here to pick up my glasses and "that's funny" my appt. has a different name. Huh?? Then she tells me I don't have an appt. but they have an opening next Tuesday. WHAT!! They've done this "You don't have an appt." thing to me before. Ok, I won't be back. I go home. I hate going to the Dr. (in general) but I truly love coming to see Dr. Osias! My entire family comes to Primary EyeCare and takes excellent care of all of us. My work life is crazy, so I really appreciate the text alerts to help remind me of my appointments. Unfortunately, when we have a negative experience in any business - we're quick to run and tell someone about it. We should rush to yell from the mountain tops how wonderful something or someone is - what a great experience we had TOO, but sadly, it doesn't seem to be in our nature. I woke up on Monday with the MOST severe pain in my eye. I went to work and tried to tough it out but there was nothing making it any better. I called Dr. Osias' office and, even though he was at lunch, they had me come in IMMEDIATELY. Dr. Osias not only came back from lunch early to help me, but he took the pain away right there and took care of me. By that night, I was feeling 99% better! --- He was GREAT. I have had glasses my entire life, so I am very familiar with eye care/ eye doctors, and glasses places. I have gone to high end doctor's places, low end doctor's places, lens crafters, 1800-contacts, and even costco. What I like about Primary EYEcare and Dr. Osias, is that I get the one-on-one professional service of a high end doctor's office, but at a reasonable price. They also have a good selection of frames, including some of the high end names (Gucci, etc.). I'm a broke college student so I got a basic frame (some name I don't remember). They did try and upsell me all the extras, but mostly I just got the extra thinning on the lenses because I have such a high prescription. Since I am used to this at other places, I know what I need and what to say no to. Dr. Osias was very knowledgeable and told me things about my eye that I had never known before (which was pretty amazing because I have been going to eye doctors for a long time!). Overall I had a great experience (if a bit lengthy) and my new glasses look great. They only took a week to get in, and they fit really nice. The lab tech who fit me (I forget her name but she is an older asian lady), really knew what she was talking about and fit my glasses to my head really well. read more

I just moved into the area from N.Y area . I found the staff that i meet was rude lazy and money grubbing I will tell my new neighbors not to go there and avoid them. I saw facitly is across the street from me . I asked if they could check my prescription that any shop optometrist does for free or a couple of bucks and I explained to the staff I am new in town and i don't need my eyes check and full service. After enrolling in a new vision insurance program at work for my self and family I made appointment for the three of us. Gave them then insurance name and they were able to pull all the information regarding the insurance. The appointment were within a few days and very covineant. Upon arrival we recieved prompt and courtiouse attention. The doctor was great and the overall experiance was awsom. We walked away very happy and satisfied with our service. The glasses were ready within a week. The technician who fitted the glasses were excellent and took his time with each of us. We felt as if we were the only patiants that they had. Looking forward to returning next year. I should mention that this was at the San Lorenzo location, which has since moved into the new office in Castro Valley. I did have an occations to visit the Castro Valley office for a quick repair on the nose "thing". This has been one of the best optometric experience I ever had!! Our company finally gave us vision benefits so I thought I would seek someone local to support. When I first called to set the appointment, the receptionist answered the phone with delight. She was very courteous and answered all my questions. She even pulled up my insurance plan and went over with me so there are no suprises. On the day of my appointment, I walked in and was immediately greeted by all the staff with SMILES!! Dr. Boe is absolutely fantastic. She took her time, explained everything to me. She also did some other test that I have never had before.
