This is my go-to neighborhood salon. Good for a basic mani-pedi or a chrome gel mani. Recommended!

I have no idea why this nail salon doesn't have a better rating! They have such a wide variety of nail polish (even designer ones if you're someone that prefers a dior color). I personally go for the gel manicures and they offer at least 5 different brands of gel polish. I typically go with the shellac brand and after a week all of my nails are still intact and look great (I'm a nurse so I have to continuously wash my hands vigorously so they've been through a lot the past week). The pedicures are done in spa chairs and they are very thorough. The manicures are done as if you're sitting at a bar and the chairs are leather and very comfortable. I will definitely be making this my regular go to nail spot! read more

I'm really surprised to see negative reviews about this place. I absolutely love Primp & Polish! 9 times out of 10 I go to Michelle (unless she is off when I need to go), and she always does a fantastic job. She is highly detail-oriented and meticulous, which I appreciate, especially because this isn't a $20 mani/pedi like a lot of places in the city. I will admit that I did have a negative experience with one of the technicians. I was the last client of the day and you could tell that she didn't want to take me. She tried rushing through my mani/pedi. When I asked her to see some of the light pinks/nudes on my fingers (because we all know that you can't tell how light colors will go on your fingers from the bottle), basically rolled her eyes at me and said no. Awkward. I told the manager about my experience right after I was done, and she was very apologetic and said she would discuss it with the technician. Message to management: communicate changes in policies to your staff so that they may give correct information to customers! I was told told that I would be able to purchase a gift card online for any increment I wanted. I went to do just that, only to find out hat gift cards are only sold in increments of $25. This place looks nice from the outside and has a great nail polish selection. But I am consistently without fail disappointed in the service here. I literally live upstairs and still would not go to this place. First off they do not easily welcome walk ins which really ruins the whole convenience factor. There have been plenty of times when I haven't been able to go because they are booked for the day. Who knows why because it is never that busy with people. The manicures and pedicures are sub par. They rush through and every time my polish chips within a day. Decided to at least give the waxing a try which was also a big fail. First the waxer did not have anything ready, which is annoying since they make you book an appointment hours in advance! Then it is not until I am getting undressed that I learn that they don't even offer the waxing service that I came in for! What a waste of my time, not to mention an embarrassing interaction. It's nice looking place but the staff is just not good and the service a disappointment. Would personally much rather go to a place that maybe didn't have the fancy nail polish selection, but had real professionals working there. At the end of the day I am paying for SERVICE. read more

I've been coming to this spot & their sister spot Nail Essence since I moved to Brooklyn two years ago. They do such an excellent job on gel manicures & nail art. Peep their Instagram (primpNpolish) for inspiration. Stella, Annie & Maggie are fantastic. This location is clean & chic & has excellent natural light. Their nail polish selection is extensive & their prices are fair. I always look forward to having some time to myself here. Never again. Today was my first time here. My mother and I called ahead to make an appointment for two pedicures, which went fine. When we got there a few minutes early, we waited, which was also fine. However, the actual pedicure was so blah I had to write to warn others. It barely lasted 20 minutes, included no foot massage (every other pedicure I've ever gotten includes at least 5 minutes of relaxing food massaging), and the salon technician was perceptibly unenthusiastic. I thought maybe we had accidentally gotten the "Express Pedicure" which is also a service they offer, but when the salon tech handed us the check, the price was $32 per person. I even asked the lady working the computer/phones at the front, if this was a typical experience, to which she replied yes. If you want a 20 minute, no fills pedicure at $35 a pop, this is the place for you. I recommend looking elsewhere. read more

Beware. The pedicure I received was done hastily and the technician basically scratched my entire toenail. I don't see how she didn't notice what she was doing, and didn't even mention what she did or ways to fix it. It's REALLY scratched. I'd be careful, no attention to detail here. read more

It's not cheap, but it is totally worth it. I've never felt rushed and the technicians always have gone out of their way to make sure I felt happy and comfortable. This is the only place I've gone in 15 years in NYC whose manicure lasted a week or more on me without a chip. Pedicures are thorough without involving bloodshed. read more

I had the WORST experience at Primp & Polish nail salon on 205 N9th St. Bk, NY. I had an 4pm appointment on 7/22/2017. I walked in the nail salon at 3: 30pm to await my appointment. As I waited for my appointment I was approached by the front desk check in staff stating "we have an opening slot for 3:45pm would you like to start your pedicure & manicure". I stated sure! Thank you. I was then approached by the manicurist whom was an Asian women name Polly with an angry and annoyed look on her face! I said hello she just stared at me, I was puzzled. I then showed her the gel polish I wanted to use for my pedicure. She (Polly) again just look angrily at me and said okay follow me, aggressively!! I was completely shock at her demeanor and behavior I've NEVER met this person before and this was in fact my first time at this nail salon! I followed Polly to the pedicure area sat in the chair and waited for Polly to return with her nail kit. During the process she said nothing to me didn't ask what water temperature I required to soak my feet in or anything she was extremely rough with me! She rushed though the process total skipping steps no massage or anything!! She polished my toe nails then began to take me to the manicure area to polish my finger nails. I walked directly to the front of the salon to pay for my horrific pedicure informed the front desk I will not continue with the manicure due to the POOR service!! Made my payment and left that freak show of a nail salon Polly was JUST A TOTAL ANGRY BITTER WEAK BITCH! She had no personality, POOR customer service skills, didn't seem as though she wanted to be at work! THIS IS ALL WRONG FOR BUSINESS WHEN YOUR BUSINESS IS CUSTOMER BASED! This place is beautiful. The staff is so kind and professional. I got my first Brazilian wax here. They lady who attended me knew that I was a little nervous. She was gentle and fast. The women that did my nails cut my finger with the cuticle cutter so hard. My finger was gushing blood and I had to go to the pharmacy to get it cleaned. The women who cut me and other people at the salon couldn't care less. I called and they still didn't seem to care. Awful service. I will never be back. read more

This place is awful. My husband purchased a $60 gift card for me for Christmas of which I used $45 in January. I returned yesterday and had a manicure and eyebrow waxing only to be told that the remaining $15 had been redeemed on the day of the blizzard. I did not go to get my nails, toes, or any services on that day. I explained that the card had never been out of my possession and that must be an error in their software. The receptionist informed me that it could not be a mistake as they must physically scan the card. I reiterated that I have had possession the card the entire time. She stared at me blankly. She made a couple of calls but there was no manager on premises to address the issue. They refused to budge and gave me some bullshit email address to send a complaint. Sub-par pedicure and terrible customer service, and not to mention they stole $15. There are plenty of great salons in this neighborhood, this is not one of them. read more

I have been to this business one time. Service: Spa Manicure Pros: Atmosphere Cons: - I got the spa manicure yesterday. The service included scrub and masque, but only on my lower arms. NOT ON MY HANDS. Lotion was applied on my hands, that's it. The service was a typical manicure with some scrub on my arms. Very strange and pointless. I am paying for experts to care for my hands when I get a manicure, and I did not feel I received this service. - Four Nails have chipped LESS than one day later. (I wear gloves when doing dishes) - Technician nipped me in three locations when trimming cuticles. - No details were given on the spa menu so I did not know what to expect. read more

I used to live around the corner from Primp N Polish and got lots of mani/pedis. I moved a few months ago and tried to find a new nail salon close to me with no luck. Five different salons and five different sub par manicures. Maybe I've just been spoiled but none of the manicures came close to the ones I've gotten here. Decided to head into Williamsburg today for a quality mani/pedi and couldn't be happier that I did! Did the mani/pedi morning special, splurged for the Milk And Honey special and my nails look great and my skin feels amazing! This place is clean and has a lot of color options, but my manicurist Ivy was really aggressive when removing my cuticles to the point I started bleeding. Her reaction to my pain was to tell me that it was because my cuticles were dry. I've had many manicures where I'm not bleeding by the end of it... On top of that she seemed upset that I only tipped her 20%. I paid $57 for a gel mani and regular pedicure. I will not be coming back here. read more

Primp and Polish was clean and nice. I went early on a Friday to have a gel manicure. They offered tea and water and have a lot of colors and brands to choose from. Koi was very nice to work with. I had a simple gel manicure with a little sparkle on two nails. I'm satisfied with the service it just seems a little pricy. read more

As Suzanne pointed out, the only plus is really the cleanliness and "look and feel". Our mani pedi was very rushed, I could see the layers in the polish and the topcoat was not well applied so the edges started chipping away the next day. Our manicurists barely spoke or understood English so it was impossible to communicate. It's a shame because the concept is great, now if only they could get the execution right. And then to add insult to injury: they demanded, yes demanded a tip! Nope, not coming back. read more

I have had my share of manicures in my life, but today's experience definitely threw me over the edge. While performing her service today, my nail technician, Coco, had to buff my nails with this little square buff. I understand, it's a standard procedure, but this particular buff was very abrasive and she basically stripped the top layers of my nails off. I told her to stop 3 times and it wasn't until I pulled my hands off that she did. The technician's English was so poor that she couldn't understand a word "stop"? I was so upset, that I decided not to do the polish. After speaking with the manager, who offered me to finish my mani with a different person, I am still very disappointed. My nails are still burning an hour later, I didn't get the polish, there was no discount or refund, just an offer to get my nails painted by somebody else. What happened to primp? I used to get the best pedicures here. I just got one today, and it literally lasted 15 minutes (I looked at the timer on the massage chair) from start to finish. In the last minute of the 15 minute timer on my chair, she was applying polish. I'm sorry but are pedicures $2/minute, because that would equal out to the $32 pedicure I received. On top of that, my technician never spoke or acknowledged me. She did not ask how I wanted my nails shaped, she did not ask if I wanted them cut or just filed, and she did not ask if I was ok with my polish color before polishing all of the toes. The lotion massage was half hearted and quickly done, the cuticle cutting was quickly done, and the filing if you want to call it that was a quick brush over my toe. I'm only giving it 1 star because the polish was done decently. read more

Receptionist was nice and welcoming when I walked in. However, this place is overpriced for the quality of service. My nails did not last the full two weeks like they said. I found the manicurist to be rude when she demanded a tip as she handed me the bill. I always tip good service, but it's not something that should be demanded to the customer. I have now been to this Primp and Polish location 4 times over the past 5 months. My first visit was great! I was happy with the nail technician, she was patient, happy and detailed. She took her time and my manicure and pedicure looked great for a couple weeks. I didn't catch her name or is have asked for her again. Unfortunately my second and fourth time-which will most likely be my last-was highly disappointing and both of these were with Joey. (The third time was decent and the nail tech did a design for me which was sub-par). Joey looks like she could be a sweet and detailed nail tech but she is unfriendly, miserable and seems to hate her job and lets you know. She is very very fast and rough. When I decide to treat myself to a manicure and pedicure which isn't often I go with the expectation of having a relaxing, soothing and calm experience. This is not what happened. I was rushed and yanked and unhappily told to put my foot in the water or bring it up. She barely scrubs your feet which is one of the main reasons I pay for a pedicure, sure I could have spoken up but i feared she might growl at me. The only time I had a moment of personality and customer service come out of her was when she filed my finger nail so hard it cut my skin open to which she first replied under breathe a pathetic sorry, then finally realized she should really apologize and only then did she smile and become sympathetic. I can't complain about her nail painting skills because that she actually did a good job on. When the manicure was finished and I had paid she said thank you and left me to dry. I was never again helped by a single person. No one helped me pull my jeans down in order to prevent my nails from smudging or even come over to see if I was completely dry. All the nail techs were in the back room laughing and chatting. I was extremely disappointed in the service by my technician and the salon in general. I almost didn't even get an acknowledgment that I was walking out the door until the moment I pushed the door open and heard a very quiet "have a nice day". read more
