I went to see Yong at the end of July to have my engagement ring re-done. There was nothing wrong with it but I thought I was ready for a change. I picked out a new semi-mount and, two weeks later, I had a brand new ring which was completely different from the ring I had been wearing for 17 years. It was beautiful and I thought it was exactly what I wanted. Not to mention the pricing was very good. Days passed and something wasn't right. When I looked at the ring, I didn't love it. Was it the prongs on top? Hmmm, maybe. But I wore the ring for three weeks just to see if it was just a matter of getting used to it. After that time, I still wasn't crazy about the ring design that I had selected. I wasn't even sure I could even do anything about it because, after all, I was the one who had made the choice after going through Princess Jewelry's large selection of antique settings. But I contacted Yong anyway and he gave me a few options that might soften the look of the prongs. I went back and he worked his magic by splitting the prongs and making them more subtle. It looked better and I was pleased. However, a few days later, I realized that this piece, although lovely in its own right, was just not...me. What did I do? I went back to Princess Jewelry, yet again, and talked with Yong. I told him I REALLY wanted to love my ring but I just wasn't loving it. He gave me a few more suggestions but then said if I still wasn't satisfied, we could just start over. He and his wife showed so much patience. They never tried to push anything on me and showed me more styles and gave me the time I needed to really, really find something I liked. Yong had made my engagement and wedding rings and my husband's wedding band 17 and 15 years ago. He showed me an updated version of my old ring but I was hesitant because it was too similar. I couldn't help but gravitate toward that setting anyway. I loved my old ring. So after much deliberation and some advice from a friend, I finally made the decision and picked the new evolution of my old setting. One week later, my ring was finished and I absolutely LOVE it!! It just feels right and it looks right and it truly reflects me and my style. I imagine this is how Cinderella felt when she tried on that glass slipper. I know I didn't have to write this long winded review but I'm not sure I could have gotten this customer care and service from any other jeweler. They really wanted me to be happy and gave me the time and space I needed to come to a thoughtful decision. I will continue going to Princess Jewelry for all of my fine jewelry needs and will recommend them to anyone who is looking for a jeweler they can trust. The Jewelry District in Downtown LA can be overwhelming but Princess Jewelry is THE best, hands down. P.S. The cost for the changes I made were not what you'd think they'd be. I chipped my side diamond and needed it to get it fixed. Plus I was in the market for a new setting. I went to Yong & Tomy from a family friend recommendation. I kid you not, I am not a fan of going to a jeweler that has a booth instead of an office. Something about jewelers in a booth just turns me off. However, after meeting them and discussing what I wanted, doing business with them put me at ease. Yong told me what my options were for my chipped diamond and then hand drew a pic of a setting I envisioned/wanted. He listened and was able to come up with something. His hand dawn pic of the setting was pretty precise & impressive. He later sent me a CAD drawing of the ring and it was exactly what he hand drew. It took a month for the ring to be ready but it was worth the wait. Yong and Tomy are not pushy or aggressive jewelers. They are calm & easy going. They don't spring on all the trays if rings to try and get you to buy something . Unlike the neighboring booths, who were the exact opposite. The workmanship is very good, proportioned and precise. Yong did an excellent job. He knows what he is doing and will be able to help create something for you. Was he pricey? I can't say bc I had a budget in mind and when he told me how much my new ring would be with 6 additional 2mm diamonds, it was within my price point. Definitely meet Yong and Tomy. I haven't written a yelp in a long time, but have gotten some custom pieces made by Yong and had my wedding ring recently repaired when my center stone fell out. I have a vast jewelry collection and have used plenty of jewelers over the years and discovered Yong about 5 years ago and wish it was sooner. Yong and his wife are by far the most honest and trustworthy jewelers I've ever worked with. Their prices are unreal and the craftsmanship is amazing. I spent dozens of hours browsing hundreds of shops and looking at thousands of rings in the jewelry district. It was a great learning experience, but I really wish someone had sent me to Tommy and the Princess gang first. Through a referral, my husband designed my engagement ring here. After falling in love with my ring, we naturally came back months later to get matching wedding bands. Fast forward to the present- I was on Yelp when I randomly came across another jeweler's Yelp page. After reading raved reviews, I started second guessing myself and pondered if I irrationally purchased my ring/band here without taking a look at what other jewelers had to offer. As much as I loved my ring/band, a lot of "what if's" started scanning through my head. Coincidentally, a week later, my husband told me that he would like to buy me a new band to match my engagement ring (since my wedding band does not) as his wedding anniversary present. Moreover, they are great teachers and love to share their knowledge as well as work their hardest to find you what you are looking for as well as give excellent advice. Most importantly, they are real jewelers and what I mean by that is they actually make, craft, and design jewelry in house, which is very rare these days as most people hire designers/creators/crafters or most often source the work out while the actual owners/jewelers themselves are usually just salespeople. Not at this awesome place!! Young and his family work with their very hands and take pride in their work. If you have a sample or design, they will work to get it done. If they do have to source something out, they let you know upfront and give the best rates. Oh my...the cost saving alone with working with them is more than worth it!!! Like I said, they really stand behind their quality of service and experience. Each time I visited to discuss the rings, I saw tons of jewelers visiting them to see if they could work on something and one salesperson working for another told me that they are the best hands down. That told me how much they are respected in the community and that many jewelers source to them to make rings and jewelry. Not to mention the repeat customers I saw while I was there who were buying jewelry for family or have been going there for decades. of all the things i've done for my wedding, buying my husband's wedding band was the least painful task. i did my homework. i looked up a few jewelry stores located in the downtown jewelry district on yelp, got a couple referrals from family and friends, and drove ourselves up. the first jewelry shop we stopped by was the one that has garnered highest ratings and received great reviews from yelpers. it was a nice store with good inventory, but i didn't particularly feel welcomed by them. even though we were the only ones in the store, the sales person showed lukewarm excitement the moment we said we were only interested in men's wedding bands. it almost didn't seem like she wanted our teeny tiny small business. the next stop was a store reviewed by a trusted yelper. although the price was about 5% higher than the first one, i definitely felt more connected to the sales person here. she was very knowledgeable and never tried to say certain metals were better purely based on price. had the price been within our budgeted range, i might've had bought a ring from this store. our third stop was princess jewelry tucked in a corner of big room. a friend of mine just got her husband's ring from here a month before so i knew what price range to negotiate within (at least 20% cheaper than the first 2 stores). after browsing different designs (men can be extremely picky with their rings!), we chose one we both liked upon the owner's suggestion. when i asked for some discount on the price, thomas was brutally honest and told me that that was not possible since the price of gold has gone up. he did, however, offer to refund the difference if the gold price had dropped on the day the ring was getting molded. i requested the ring to be mailed to me (mere $6) since i couldn't bear to drive to l.a. downtown and pay an arm and a leg for parking. in less than a week, i got a package with the ring AND $30 cash!!! i couldn't believe my eyes...seriously, money back? he really refunded the difference? talk about integrity and customer service!!! the best part is that i love my husband's ring so much that i might get one for myself. a woman can never have too much jewelry!!! read more
