I had a procedure done at Chesapeake Regional Surgery Center with Dr. Babbington on Friday, and my…read moreexperience was excellent from start to finish. I arrived at 7:20 AM for a 7:30 check in, and was checked in immediately. They gave me a number so my dad could track my progress while I was inside. I loved this little addition since he could not come beyond the lobby with me! After checking in, I was taken back for prep. The nurses were friendly and thorough, taking about half an hour to get me ready and set up my IVs. The anesthesiologist and Dr. Babbington came in beforehand to review the procedure with me and answer any last minute questions that I had. Right around 9:30 they took me into the operating room. The surgery itself went smoothly, I believe it was a little over 2 hours. When I woke up in recovery, a nurse was there to greet me and make sure I was comfortable, followed by Dr. Babbington stopping by again to explain how everything went, then they let my dad come back. I spent about an hour in recovery before being discharged. They made sure I was super comfortable before sending me home. When it was time to go, they wheeled me out to the car and helped me get in. I appreciated how organized, compassionate, and professional everyone was. I'm so thankful for such a great experience.

Over the years my doctors have come and gone and even returned years later. It never seems to matter which doctor I see. I am well aware that this is a teaching environment and, as an educator myself, I find that encouraging. I went for a MRI at the heart hospital. It's a pretty big area. We found a parking garage and it…read morewas pretty easy to get inside. Sometimes the gates are raised and you won't have to pay for parking. Otherwise they can validate it if you have an appointment. You have to go through security and then check in at the desk. The imaging center was towards the front by Subway. They have a separate waiting area for your family to wait. It's pretty open in there with a TV to watch and lots of seating. It's nice that they have the Subway inside, but they do close early. The staff were all friendly. They took me to a room to change and gave me a locker with a key. The MRI room can feel a little intimidating. I'm claustrophobic so I'd recommend taking an anxiety med before going. Your doctor can prescribe one prior to your appointment. The process took about an hour, so be prepared to be inside the MRI machine for a bit. You will hear strange sounds and it's tight in there. But it's really not that bad. Ask for the mirrored glasses so you can see outside of the machine, so you don't freak out. Also you have to be still, but expect everything you never expected to itch, to start as soon as they strap you in. Lol. But the procedure went well, the staff was accommodating and friendly, and I recommend them for your MRI needs!!

However, the week of her first appointment, I received a text stating there wouldn't be a provider in that day. I called to reschedule, which pushed the appointment out an extra month. The day of her appointment, the assistant couldn't read the doctor's writing of what lab work needed done. Dr. Saffold was currently with another patient, so she told us she'd send an email after speaking with him. That afterward we can go to any Sentara location to have it completed. This added additional driving, paperwork, and time for us. Later that day, I picked up her RX and didn't understand the directions on the label because they were worded wrong. It took several days for someone to get back with us. The week of her follow-up appointment, we received another text stating a provider wouldn't be in and her appointment would need to be rescheduled AGAIN. No one EVER answers the phone. Every single time I have called, I have had to leave a message and play phone-tag with them to speak to an actual person. It has been well over 3 weeks and I have still yet to get my daughter's follow-up scheduled. She is out of the medication that was prescribed. Our pharmacy has reached out to the office and the refill has been ignored. Grateful I never canceled the CHKD appointment because we will not be going back. My daughter is autistic and the experiences we've had with this office have been added stress that is unnecessary. I have worked for doctors and am experienced in healthcare. The lack of follow-through and carelessness from this office is embarrassing.
