She wants to understand your issues and areas of focus. She checks in during the massage to get your feedback on how her touch is being received and whether you're getting what you need. It's a very comfortable, collaborative process. I recently went to see her because I pulled something in my lower back and, after a week I still had some pain. This is the second time over the years that this has happened and the second time Heather was able to help me. The results were quite miraculous. In the time that remained after my therapeutic hip work, Heather massaged my neck to release tension at my request and it was blissful. Heather really understands muscles and trigger points and has a strong, confident touch. She is equally adept at addressing sport-related issues, injuries, tension relief, restoration, and nurturing as well as being a well-respected reiki expert. I don't get massages very often and after my recent visit I honestly don't know why I usually wait until I have a problem. A massage with Heather should really fall under the category of self-care and doing something incredibly nice for your body. So........right after I finish publishing this review, I'm booking another session with Heather. This time just to make me happy. Heather's large, spare private studio is hidden away on the second floor of a loft-like building on Ravenswood just north of Irving Park. There is lots of free street parking.

Her office is located on the top floor of a building in Rogers Park with free street parking right in front. She asked me questions before the session began, provided me with water, and even had me choose the lotion or oil scent of my preference. She told me that I will be spending most of the time lying on my sides (because of my belly) and that she uses hot stones during the massages. I never experienced them before but it sounded good to me! Overall the massage was great & I left feeling relaxed. So relaxed I came back another 2 times during weeks 34 and 36! Woke up this AM with a terrible neck pain and found Sarah on Yelp. I normally wouldn't look for a massage therapist in Evanston because I live in the city. But I was going to be headed that way for a meeting today and I have never found a great massage therapist in the city so I figured give Evanston a try. Luckily she had a slot in her schedule and fit me in same day. She is easy to talk to. Not too woo-woo. Down to earth, understands basic health and medicine that other massage therapists are sometimes clueless to. She is strong and goes deep without being a bull in a china shop - she is very smooth in her movements. Her office is clean, organized, and had a relaxed vibe. It was quiet too, which I really appreciate as many places I've gone to lately are really loud with thin walls. Plus, I love that it does not have smelly candles or potpourri. It was one of the best massages I've had in Chicago. I think she will be my go-to gal from now on when I'm needing to de-stress or have pain. I live near Andersonville and have tried many massage therapists in my neighborhood, but from now on, I'll be trekking to Evanston to see Sarah.
