We have been here quite a few times over the years, and each visit has been very different. Sometimes it has been a 2-star experience and other times a 5-star, so I am going to settle on 4 stars because our last experience this past weekend was great and had us wanting to go back. The food, beer, and service was all really good. We came in on a Friday evening about 4:30 and were able to be seated right away. As we left it definitely started to pick up and there was probably a bit of a wait then. Our server was attentive, our beers came out quickly, but our food took a bit longer than we would have liked. Our kids got pretty restless while waiting. They did have a kids menu and crayons, so that definitely helped some. For food we got The Verdict sandwich, which was delicious. For the side I got the cooked vegetables for my 8 month old. He loved them and so did I, best side of vegetables I've had at a restaurant in a very long time. I highly recommend them. They were also perfectly cooked for a young child to enjoy. My husband enjoyed his sandwich and fries as well. Both of ours had a nice kick. Our kids each got the chicken tenders, one with fries and the other with fruit. The fruit was a disappointment as it was only some orange slices, but they shared the fries so it all worked out. With the beers we unfortunately enjoyed their guest taps more than the brewery's selections. We had the Full Moon hazy ipa, the grand theft hefe (their best in our opinion), and the Insurrection Amber. All just okay. After a long hot day of sweating & working I wanted a quick meal in downtown Yuma. Many choices on Main Street but I went with Prison Hill Brewing. To hot for outside. They had the tables spaced and the seats at the bar spaced. I sat at the bar. I'm not a beer drinker, so no review on their offerings. I had a cider and a nice ice water. Enjoyed the Flew the Coop chicken sandwich with their potato salad and a pickle. Hit the spot. Service was good. Yuma really embraces the Prison theme since the Prison is 2 miles away. First time at Prison Hill Brewing. We arrived at 2:20 on a Sunday afternoon and it was 1/4 full. Impressive for a Sunday between lunch and dinner. There were six of us, with two being under 6 years old. We were seated in about ten mins and our server greeted us ten minutes later. Our server was quite slow with our service during the whole visit. The menu was quite creative, with prison-inspired items, such as the Jailbird for the chicken sandwich. I ordered the Snitch: a pulled pork sandwich with BBQ sauce, spicy Cole Slaw on a brioche bun. It came with chips and a side (I got macaroni salad). The sandwich was excellent. Tender pork, plenty of sauce, soft, buttery bun and spicy slaw that had a nice tang to offset the savory pork. It was very well thought out and executed meal. read more

Went on a Saturday night, so obviously it was pretty busy. So much so that I wasn't able to put in an order for about 5 minutes. And I was sitting at the bar! Eventually ended up with a flight of their dark brews. The Solitary stout was smooth but lackluster; no depth. The Son of a Baptist coffee stout was very coffee forward. I miss the coffee stouts from the PNW that usually have good balance. The Chango Malo was a coconut stout that initially smelled like a coconut sunscreen but it did get better. Lastly the 89 ale tasted darker than its color; it was probably my fave out of the bunch. Didn't have any food, so nothing to report there. Cool names for their brews. Historic brewery located in the heart of downtown Yuma. The owner is the grandson of a famous Yuma prisoner. The brewery plays up the prison puns in its name and menu. We had the jail bait blonde and oatmeal pale ale. Both were delicious. We sat outside since we had our Great Dane with us. The patio was covered, spacious, and great for people watching. This is a really cool little spot in old town Yuma. They have the typical brewery food you expect like fish and chips and burgers, but with a little twist. They have a prison theme and even serve the food on metal trays like you might expect to get in old time jail. Don't worry though, the staff treat you way better than they would an inmate and there is no Cool Hand Luke style boiled egg eating contest. You also needn't fret about how you can fashion a weapon out of a toothbrush... it's all rather civilized when you get down to it! They brew their own beers and also have other beers on offer. I really like their IPAs which both pack a punch but also have a citrus yummy that keeps it all very drinkable... almost too drinkable actually. I usually order the fish and chips here which means it's my spot to visit when I am taking a break from Keto. The potatoes are delish and the fish is usually very crispy. Just the way you want it! I add whatever sauces at an extra cost on the side and then go to town! Or... jail if you will... The coleslaw is where I minus a star. It's just tired looking and not great. I wish they would do away with it but maybe it is added to give the plate it's prison like authenticity? I don't know, but I don't even touch it anymore. I always find a place to sit even when it's a lively night. Service is usually pretty good and I haven't ever had to wait too long for my meal to arrive... wouldn't want a prison riot I bet! If you got a big appetite and love burgers this is the place you want to stop at. We arrived midweek for lunch and it was already pretty busy. We were seated fairly quickly and scanned over the decor of the unique restaurant. The menu was a fun read as well. I ordered a very good burger that had a fried avocado in it and melty gooey cheese...very good and very filling. It came with a side of fries of which I dipped into ranch instead of ketchup. I did not have any of the unique beers they had to offer but if thats your thing then I am pretty sure you will love this place as well. All the staff was super friendly and prices were good. So glad we decided to stop in an try this spot before a visit to the Yuma territorial grounds. read more

Their beer is beyond awful. I've lived here for over 3 years and every 6 months or so I will stop in to see if they've learned how to brew better. That hasn't happened yet. Food is decent and there is always of guest beers that are way better. Service is always garbage also. I don't know if the business is too cheap to staff it properly but it always seems the bartended is serving the bar and table area. Or just off talking to other staff instead of taking orders. For god sake Yuma, get another brewery in the town ASAP. This place isn't it. read more

Shoulder rubbing, pokes the stomach's, F bombs flying, cups fell onto flooded floors server picked up off the ground and put every cup back into the new box. So I decided to stop in here on my way to Harrah's Resort in Funner CA. The place is kind of small but quaint. Service was ok, but there were some issues I'll discuss as we go along. But the BT was friendly enough. They had four of their own beers on tap which seemed a bit low after looking at how many beers they brew, but ok let's give them a try. To say the beers were underwhelming would be an understatement, the stout was ok flavor wise but such a thin watery body, and zero mouth feel. There was also a coconut stout that again was very thin in body, and super sweet, tasted like an almond joy candy bar. The sour hazy IPA was just not for me either. The best of the bunch was the West Coast IPA which was quite good. I also tried 4 guest beers as well. The star of this show however was the burger I ordered, this was maybe one of the best burgers I have ever had, most certainly one of the best from a brewery! Man this thing was cooked perfectly, it was juicy and moist, and it had great flavor. The fries were pretty tasty too. Several of the service issues, had to ask for water twice, wasn't asked if I needed any condiments for my food, and took forever to cash out. Don't waste your time. The food was mediocre and the beer ok. Now about the service. It was terrible after we were seated it took 15 minutes for her to come back and take our drink order. She acted like she could care less if we were there. I can understand if they were busy but there were only three other tables with people at them and they had food. Decent small town pub Ambiance: Very lively. Lots of trays and trays of shots being served all night. Very appealing atmosphere for both indoor and outdoor seating. Food: We had blackened salmon, which was well cooked though I would've liked it more if the skin was crispy. Seasonal vegetables was cafeteria grade. Spicy coleslaw had barely any coleslaw dressing and definitely was not spicy. We also turkey sandwich with potato salad, which was delicious!! The chips was a great addition too. Service: We sat at the bar so this is based off of service from our bartenders. Given how busy they were, they took good care of us. No complaints there. read more

The. Spot. In. Yuma. They had 3 of their beers on tap, but a bunch of others as well when I visited. Both nights I went, I was super satisfied with the meat plate. The meat plate is filling and pairs well with a variety of their beers. I also highly recommend you get a flight of 4 beers. The brisket and pulled pork were my favorite meat choices. The spicy coleslaw and beans were also great sides. They have a decent amount of space inside and outside. If you can't find parking, there's a parking area down the street. They have a lot of great looking stuff on the menu, but I don't regret the meat plate, at all. read more

If you're looking for an ice cold beer, this is not the place. We told the server the beer was warm and he informed us the owner wants the beer poured in warm glasses. the food was average. We had a burger and the lettuce was wilty the tomatoes were orange and even the pickle spear was gross. Definitely had higher hopes for this place. I am 100% not the complaining type. It's just not me. But I'm about to complain about this meal, so buckle up. I ordered dinner from Prison Hill brewing for pick up and the meal was ready on time and the staff was friendly when I arrived. The server that handed me the bag also handed my receipt separately and I checked to make sure the bag and receipt were my order. I opened the top container in the bag and sure enough, it was my customized salad. Off to a good start! Carried the food back to my car, baby on my hip and receipt crumpling in my hand, to head back to the house with our dinner. Got home, 30 minutes later, to realize the container below my box of salad was not in fact my husband's burger with fries but instead salmon (he doesn't eat fish) with cole slaw. So. Incredibly. Frustrating. Especially when we payed extra to add bacon to the burger. I'm thinking we payed upwards of $35 or more for our meal when really all that was consumed was my salad (I got the southwest bandito salad and I customized it with no corn or tortilla strips, added grilled chicken). The poblano peppers were soggy, the salad was 90% mixed greens, there was barely any cheese, the grilled chicken and avocado were good but there didn't seem like much on there. And this salad was like $15. Truly, I could have gotten a better salad for half the price from most places. Since my husband wasn't going to enjoy his meal at all, I tried the salmon and cole slaw for kicks and giggles. The salmon was ok. It was on the bland side. And the cole slaw was way too sweet. So there you have it. I hate leaving negative reviews but this entire meal was a disappointment. I will say, eating at the restaurant could have been a much better experience (it's impossible to get home 30 minutes later and have the wrong meal if you're eating there)...but even then I think the taste of the food that we had would have only constituted a 3-star review. I've been looking forward to visiting here for a few years, but Covid-19 restrictions got in the way. Finally, I had landed in Yuma and was looking forward to finally visiting. Shortly after sitting down before ordering, there was a guy with a booming voice dropping the "F-Bomb" with a child seated nearby. I regret not leaving then, but my nice server took my order and I had a chance to sample the beers. The obnoxious F-Bomb guy had left and the atmosphere was quite nice. Phoenicians wanting more than what I8 has to offer from the freeway decided to venture into town. The Prison Hill sounded appealing and the reviews for the most part good. The vibe inside was great. Loved seeing all the kegs lining the brewery. I had a coconut stout which was excellent! Just enough coconut to not overpower the flavor of the beer. Service was really good. I'm not sure about others experience, but our server was really nice and attentive! The food was good. Some things were better than others. We had the meat plate, burger and yard bird with the pretzel app to start. Pretzel app was great and all the entrees were great. The sides, uh, they could get an upgrade. I'd pass on the Mac n Cheese, the fries and the fried avocado. Not much flavor, real bland. All-in-All a high 3, but giving it a 4 to round up. read more

The Prison Hill Brewing Company is a must visit if you're in the area of the southwest as a whole. Believe me a 3-hour detour would be worth it. The rich history and artistry on the walls of this eatery are worth the visit. But, the food and custom spirits are incredible to say the least. The owner and operator of the popular brewery is Chris Wheeler, a charismatic and friendly gentleman. Wheeler is a local and pursued his dream of opening a brewery in his hometowns historic downtown district. I for one love its Elote (corn) it's a Mexican treat with Wheeler's own twist and I'm a huge fan. read more
