We have been trying to cancel our sons membership for two years. Each time we went there they said a manager had to be there or it had be done via email. Always something different depending who we spoke with. Our son has not lived it the state for years. Finally we had to get our son to sign the cancelation because he is now over 18 and it will take 45 days to cancel. That just means another month of paying. My husband Joe died last month and I've called and spoke with two employees (owner Jason was never there). They want certified/registered mail and his death certificate. This gym is horrible! I wish I had listened to the reviews before joining. I joined November 2018. In June of 2019 I had a back injury and could not go to the gym. I brought a doctors note in so I could cancel my membership but they would not allow it. After fighting for weeks and never getting call backs I gave up and continued paying $25.99. Knowing my renewal was coming up in November I went in to cancel my membership in September and was told I could not due so until October 26th. I went back in on October 26th and filled out the paperwork to cancel. I was now told that there is a 45 day grace period so I would be charged $25.99 in November and December. I again fought this because of the information given to me during my September visit. Again, gave up for same reasons as above. Now it is November 11 and I was just changed $49.99! I called the gym and was told sorry your annual fee falls within the 45 day grace so you are responsible to pay it even though you canceled for upcoming year. Again I fought and was told to call there outside billing department. I called outside billing department and was told that Janice from the gym entered the charges and was charging me for a previous years annual fee. I paid that $49.99 annual fee when I signed up in November! I call back the gym and talk to Kim who said I'll have Janice call you but I have never heard of this and she is also going to tell you that you have to pay. So now I wait for Janice to call so I can continue the fight! BUYER BEWARE!! UPDATE: Spoke to Janice who proceeded to say "I just do what I'm told. Billing does this. You will have to pay." I have belonged to this gym for a good portion of my life. I first joined back when it was still at the building where O'Reilly Auto Parts is now. The owner, Paul, has always been friendly towards my mom and me and he still recognizes us after all these years. I appreciated how they took advantage of the Covid closure and made upgrades while none of us could visit the gym, and the Women's Only room is a nice bonus too, for those of you that would rather not work out in front of everyone. I have been a member at Pro Fitness since 2012, and have always found the gym to be as advertised. There is plenty of space to do whatever you need to do, benches are never fully occupied, and with the new workout area you can stretch out and do your custom workouts with the bumper plates. In the summer the basketball court is a good warmup and the track/sled/tire area is a nice addition. Plenty of treadmills, rowers, stairmasters, and the new hitmill (plate loaded cardio, like a farmer's carry but on the machine, never seen it before....) is awesome for cardio to finish your workout. Staff has always been pleasant and professional. Even when i didnt live in Billerica i still traveled to use the gym. Management is pleasant, present, and available, they run some cool stuff during the holidays. My wife loves the exercise room and the classes, and the instructors have always been over welcoming for questions/extra help. I use the 24/7 room when i have to get a workout in before work and there is a full bathroom and individual shower, which is a nice perk. read more

I've been a member at Pro-Fitness Plus for 7 months now. I signed up originally since they had personal training services available through a subcontractor. The training company recently got removed from the gym, and I have had a myriad of issues with them. It makes me question why PFP got involved with the shady company in the first place. Manager Denis tried to work out a deal with me to help me get further training sessions and make up my money, which was nice. However, in the end in chose to discontinue personal training all together. As for the gym itself, I liked it at first because they had more weights and machines than Planet Fitness. Now, I'm starting to notice a few things. The machines don't seem to have been updated in years. The treadmills are old, get really sweaty feeling, and half of the inclines and heart rate monitors don't work. The management is very attentive, however, and they have a lot more features than other gyms in the area: yoga room, daycare, women's only room, and they are very large. You can't go wrong with going to this gym, but they are a bit more pricey than Planet Fitness down the street. I'm cancelling my membership, however, due to their guest policy. I pay $20 a month for membership and would need to upgrade to $30 to be able to bring a guest once my free guest passes run out. I'm going to switch to Planet Fitness afterwards, to save money and because it's really not that much different. TL;DR: Gym isn't terrible, but is in disrepair. It's also more pricey than Planet Fitness down the street. I wouldn't recommend it, but I also won't tell you to stay away. It's an average gym. read more

Pro Fitness has been one of the best gym decisions myself and my fiancé have made in all our years of working out. From the minute we walked in to get information about deals, we were welcomed by staff. They gave us a tour, talked through options, and made us feel confident in our decision to join there. My fiancé and I have different interests in gym equipment and space and there wasn't anything missing for either of us in this location. They had all the machines, space, weights, and times that we wanted. It never felt crowded and was always spotless. They take pride in their location and it shows. Having two floors was our favorite part to utilize machines, have space for floor mats and stretching, or to have our own space on a treadmill. Smoothie bar is an extra plus and staff were always willing to help or answer any questions. Since COVID-19 started, we moved out of state and had to leave the gym. Management worked with us and our contract to find an option that worked for both of us. They went above and beyond during a difficult time. We will greatly miss this gym and appreciate the business they provide. read more

Everyone here giving this place bad reviews had a bad experience with billing. Like signing up for any gym, I would highly recommend you ask a ton of questions and make sure every single thing is crystal clear before agreeing to sign up. The person that helped me sign up was upfront and honest about everything. Now moving on. The equipment is definitely dated, but at the end of the day, they're maintained and work. So therefore no complaints there. They have something for everything, unlike Planet Fitness which I really don't like! What's also nice is this place also has a boxing area. Love it. Personally I think this is a solid gym for the price. I could see it not being for everyone. If you just want a place to go & get a good workout in, it's got everything you need. I like to just show up, lift on my own, and get out. However, if you're looking for extra frills, are particular about certain amenities, or want a flashier gym, you may not love it. Basically, a grittier type gym for more serious lifters, not a high-end sports club. Staff is friendly with simple questions, I haven't had any billing mishaps so far, so I can't speak to that. Been a member of different gyms over the years (LA Fitness, meathead gyms, university fitness centers) in different parts of the country. PFP has huge variety of equipment and classes, and overall, I'm happy I joined up. GREAT classes with instructors that can help you KICK your butt into the shape you want, just have to be willing to put in the sweat. There is a woman's only workout area, which is surprisingly well stocked, if you choose to use it. The main floor is mostly people their to focus on their own workout and it never feels like a meat market. I feel completely comfortable using the free weights, unlike other places I've been before. Gym membership deals always seem shady and try to keep you locked in, so as some other poster mentioned, ask questions and be prepared. I didn't think their deal was any worse than LA Fitness was. My only complaint is management doesn't communicate their aerobics class schedule changes consistently to front line staff or members. Management has recruited some fantastic instructors, I just wish they'd figure out and consistently use a system to let us know when classes are cancelled or instructors change BEFORE we have to show up to the front desk. I was looking for a gym that offers babysitting and after visiting a couple of places I decided to go with PFP because: 1. Proximity/convenience (I drive by it on my way home after I pick up my kid from school. I knew I won't go if the gym is in a different town and I have to fight the traffic, especially when the weather is bad), 2. Babysitting option (great hours that include weekends, wonderful babysitters, colorful room with many toys not just a TV like some other gyms), 3. Group classes (good variety and timing; Miki's hip hop class is worth the membership on its own), 4. Size of the gym (never feels crowded and you don't have to wait for equipment). Few weeks after I joined I decided to work out with a trainer and couldn't be happier. Vince is super professional (never had an issue with no show/cancellation/no communication), comes up with challenging workouts, offers a ton of nutrition info and overall encouragement. He's also very flexible and always works around my availability to make sure we work out every week. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because their locker rooms need to be updated. read more

With the overwhelming majority of "gyms" being more interested in getting people to sign up rather than actually creating a motivating and open environment, pro fitness plus has, at least for me, proven to be a real gym. A myriad of different age groups are seemingly regulars here, I've seen everyone from middle school aged kids to seniors hitting the weights hard and relishing in the general "get to lifting" atmosphere here. Sure the gym is worn, the dumbbells need to be tightened from time to time, and the locker rooms are a far cry from a day spa (although there is a dry sauna which rules, ) if you are looking to get a serious lift in this is the best place in the area. There are plenty of flat benches, two full runs of (poorly labeled) dumbbells from 10-110+ lbs, a few squat racks, a bunch of cardio machines , a boxing room, a 24 hour access room with minimal weights and machines (akin to that of a medium size hotel gym), and an upstairs area that has more cardio machines, a stretching and abs area, tanning booths, and some adjustable weights machines. Personally I have no experience with the following but worth mentioning, there is a day care center, a physical therapy center and a smoothie bar area. Also the cardio classes are constantly packed and seem to be a very popular attraction at the gym. Overall, if you want to lift without a lunk alarm going off and don't want to have to have to shell out 60$+ a month at a BSC this is a solid option. read more

This gym never fix their equipment. I tried to cancel my membership because I moved out of Billerica and their manager said there was a 45 day period to cancel it. When I initially signed up, I was told the cancelation was 30 days. The manager (Kim Wheeler) said she would be there and that she leaves at 4:30 and she would pull my contract up, i told her I would be there shortly before 4:30. When I got there at 4:25pm, she had already left and did not inform the front desk about me. So I had to wait 20 mins for the front desk to get in contact with her just to have him give me a cancelation form that he could have given me to begin with. This was unprofessional and unethical. They did not provide me with my contract that I signed, probably because it did not say 45 day period to cancel my membership. I would not suggest to go here. My friends and I are canceling our memberships as I asked them for more cancelation forms before I left. Lost some good customers. Good riddance! read more

While the gym itself is fine, the ownership is unprofessional. I tried canceling my plan in person, and through certified mail. They claimed that they did not have either on record. They also reported me to collections, claiming that had repeatedly tried to contact me. I never received a single phone call from them and brought in my entire phone records for 4 months to show them. They still didn't listen. Without proper notice, it cannot be rectified. The woman who answered was also incredibly rude. Bathrooms are also disgusting. I will say, the younger men behind the counter have been very friendly and professional. To start, they have a Better Business Bureau rating of "F" for a reason... I've had a membership here for a couple of years. Due to injuries, I haven't been able to continue training, so I decided to cancel my membership. Apparently, they require a 45 day written notice of cancellation! 45 days? WTF! So I just got billed two days ago, and will get billed again next month, even though I have zero intention of returning. They use a 3rd party contractor to handle billing and the gym staff will not answer any billing questions. The facility is ripe nowadays as well. Old machines, stinky disgusting locker rooms, plus all the reasons why a place like Planet Fitness is succeeding. The gym head mentality has infected the place and makes working out there more of a hassle unless you're already in shape and can mix in with that crowd that polutes the place. I'd give this place no-stars if I could. This place is poorly managed and ridiculously hard to cancel from. After moving away from Billerica during COVID 19 to Clinton MA, I tried to cancel from them to no avail. After reopening in July, I went in person and signed a form to cancel they said after one month of charge I'd be done. They then call me in August and threatened me to pay a balance in my account or itll be sent to collections. After paying them 105$, they said I'd be cancelled after one more month of gym payment. So, I gave them my card info for the next months payment. Today, in September, I get an email from collections that I owed 40$. What!!!! I thought this was all taken care of as they said. They threaten me with collections and after paying them, they still send it to collections. Frustrated to the max, I call these pro fitness a**holes. This kid DJ picks up, he explains that he dosent know a damn thing about this situation. I ask to speak to his manager so he takes my info down and says they'll be back from wherever the hell they are very shortly. I ended calling him back 3 hours later and he says he dosent know when they are coming back. WTF!? Now I'm pissed. I have been going to Pro-Fitness for about 8 years now and have utilized this facility to its fullest potential. There is a machine for most every different muscle group allowing for constant exercise rotation. I enjoy the atmosphere and both the people who work and go there. This was one of my favorite gyms. Huge, never crazy busy, plus a sauna. I recommended it to everybody! I chose the month to month option, not knowing how long I would be close by. I ended up using the gym for almost 2 years. When it came time to cancel the membership, I was less than impressed with the billing company. I had called weeks prior to now to cancel and was told I couldn't do so because their computer systems were down- it happens. I was told someone would call the following day to assist me. Never got a call. I called yesterday and was told that I needed 45 days WRITTEN NOTICE to cancel my membership... what happened to month to month? I was told if I wrote an email yesterday to the company I would only have to pay for the month of March and my membership would be terminated. I agreed, and wrote the email. I then received an email stating $19.99 was all that I owed to cancel, which is what I was told. Then along cane another email stating I owed the fee for 2018 which is $59.99 ALONG with the $19.99 for March. Moral of the story is the company was not willing to work with me what so ever and now I'm out almost $100 to cancel a membership that was NO COMMITMENT and MONTH TO MONTH! My membership is STILL ACTIVE for another 45 days for no reason while I am on the west coast unable to use it. I was a happy customer of Pro-Fitness Plus for over 5 years. But their business practices are very poor when it comes to cancellations. As a diabetic who is also solo caregiver to an octogenarian, I am at high risk from COVID-19. I attempted to cancel my gym membership online during the period when gyms were closed, in April; I could not get my username to log into the site, not even from customer service. (I emailed them and never received a reply). I waited until the gym opened in July, and called Pro-Fitness Plus; they said I would have to come in "to sign a form" in order to process my cancellation; because I'm high risk, I am unable to visit a gym. (I told them this). They claimed they would "mail me the paperwork." (They never did). I sent them a letter to cancel, which they apparently ignored. Now, they are attempting to charge late fees because I changed my credit card number. I would very much recommend staying away from this business, which lacks ethics. read more

The "0 months" or month to month agreement requires 45 days notice which in turns means you are forced to pay 2 months even if you don't want to use the gym. What a nice way to steal people's money! Choose another gym!! My daughter and I signed up for the $9.99 membership to use the 24-hour gym. No problems for 9-months. Then in March I received a Welcome Letter and they will begin to auto-withdraw $19.99. In March they actually auto-withdrew $9.99, $9.99 and $19.99. I called the Billing Company. Nothing they can do, have to call Pro Fitness. I go to the gym to talk about it. They have no idea why this happened. They wrote everything down and needed to talk to the manager. In April then again withdrew $19.99 twice from my account and $39.99 twice for an annual fee. I tried to talk to Pro Fitness several times with no answers or resolution. I tried to talk to the Manager several times and when I call he is always with someone and will call me back. I have never received a call back. I am now in the process of trying to cancel both memberships. If you've read any of the other review you know what a nightmare that is. In short, they increased both my memberships from $9.99 to $19.99 and began withdrawing that from account without my consent. They will do nothing, absolutely nothing to help you with an issue. I have been here plenty of times but as a guest of my boyfriend's since he is a gym member. He is been going here over 12 years and never has he have had an issue before. As a guest I can tell you I love it here. The gym is practically always empty and I love that. They have every single machine you can think of, everything and anything. You would never leave out of here dissatisfied with your workout. The parking lot is always a huge ++, mean there's tons of parking all around the establishment. It's always clean, they have a rehabilitation center, a child care center and they even have a juice bar. There's a big room for classes and even boxing is offered. I honestly love it here and I look forward to every time I get to stay in Lowell just so I can come here!!! read more

Pro fitness plus is a decent gym with the standard downsides. The good: 1. They have the free weights, squat racks, barbells, etc that anyone doing any sort of serious training needs. 2. There is a boxing room, large number of machines, sauna, and all the gym extras you'd want. 3. People are friendly, staff are nice, and the gym isn't too crowded. The bad: 1. The music sucks 2. They will lock you into a contract 3. The price is misleading. They have a sign outside offering membership for 9.99 a month, however once you pay for all the add ons it will be closer to 30. 4. The hours could be better. They close early on weekends. The complaints I have are pretty standard to all gyms. If you lift seriously and live nearby pfp is great. Just don't let them convince you to pay extra for bells and whistles. read more

Good luck cancelling your membership. There's a $149 fee. Even if you move out of town, you can't cancel unless it's more than 30 miles. Who drives 30 miles to go to the gym? All gym contracts are notoriously bad, but this is one of the worst. Also, you can not cancel in any manner other than in person - high pressure tactic?? Unless you KNOW you will be at this gym for the long run, negotiate a better deal (unlikely) or look elsewhere. read more

This is by far the worst gym experience I've ever had. The locker rooms are filthy, the sauna doesn't get nearly warm enough and is filthy as well, and the showers are often cold. I tried several times to cancel my month to month membership both in person and on the phone and was continually told I needed to speak to other managers. Months after I moved out of state, several unreturned phone calls, and two hand written letters stating that I wanted to cancel later, Rochelle, a very rude, unsympathetic, and unapologetic manager bullied me into paying a $53 fee to cancel. I've worked in customer service my whole life and have never been treated so unfairly. The only nice thing I have to say about this place is that the desk staff was courteous. read more

I agree with the previous post - they make it impossible to end your membership - you need to send them a registered letter (this is the only method of cancelling) even though I live 10 minutes from the place. I sent them a registered letter and requested an acknowledgement, which they never did. Now I am being told that I need to cancel 45 days prior to my contarct end date! NO customer service here at all - too bad as there are many other descent clubs now in the immediate area with better facilites! read more
