Outstanding place to install a diff, what ever this guys do and sale im sure its the best for your car application. This place was reccomend it by a good friend of mine and im happy I chose this place. Its close by and Justin was happy to take the car right away the next business day of course and gave me other day options if when ever it was convenient for me. I brought the outstanding ProGear team a quaife atb lsd and they where happy to take it, and they could of easily turn me down for bringing my diff with new bushings, seals, redline oils, and gasket maker. Of course I bought everything brand new for who ever was going to install not to struggle with the install and you want at least all that for a quaife and if you are trying to istall a clutch plate you even need more parts to go with it. Justin told me it was going to be completed at the end of the day and surely he was done before they closed. 1000 miles I have now and my diff is smooth like brand new. The things it will allow me to do when I go to the track in the near future and have some fun. I have done small pulls like half throttle in the rain in a very secure place with no traffic or any danger close by. But for me to fully appreciate its true potential track needs to be visited. : ) read more

I have never had a better experience at a Mechanics shop. Period. I was directed to Pro Gear because I first went to the Pit Stop (which I yelped to make sure it had decent reviews. It did.) The boys at the Pit Stop put my 4runner up on the lift, tapped and clinked around the driveshaft and differential to find out what was making my baby hum, and determined that it was something in the differential. Rear ends were not their expertise, so John sent me over to Pro Gear to get a "High-end" estimate on a rebuild. Upon arriving to Pro Gear, Mark was quick to greet me and see what the problem is. He then jumped into the car, found out what I was complaining about, and brought it back to put up on the lift. While the mechanic started to examine everything, I sat down in the front and gave Mark my info. He is SUPER personable. Sit down and talk to him for a few seconds. The man has an infinite amount of stories. Also, he's a former professor at some colleges in Washington. I'm not sure how many auto mechanics are former professors, but I've never run into one. To top everything off, Nick (mechanic) found that it was just a U-Joint, and they swapped it out for a hundred bucks out the door (was quoted 200+ at other mechanics). I found my 2003 BMW 330i started to leak from one of the bolt holes in the differential. Obviously the gasket was no good anymore but what I found was that the 17 year old spring washers were brittle and and two of the lower bolts were loose. One of the washers split in my hand and I replaced it with a hardware store washer temporarily. I had already bought all the dealer supplies to do it myself but got after a friend's recommendation I got a quote from Justin at Pro Gear. The $600 quote seemed very fair and since I had already bought the dealer parts and were OK using them I decided to go that route. I explained to Justin that the spring washers needed replacing and I could go get some at the dealer. He said no worry we have plenty of hardware and can replace them for you. We set up and appointment and everything was awesome. I showed up on time but Justin was out to lunch. I spoke with his backup and again I told him the diff washers were brittle and Justin had said they would replace them. I dropped off the car and got a call to pick them up. I asked about the washers and no they were not replaced. One was not even the right one, it was one I bought at the hardware store as a temporary fix. So now $765 in parts and labor on the diff already back in, I had the same $5 worth of brittle washers back in the diff. So everything else had been great but now I have brittle washers again that will fail soon. I was disappointed and Justin said they looked ok and they will be fine. So I said, OK can you please put it in writing. He said sure an and put a note on the invoice but I was only wearing my regular glasses not my reading glasses and took his word. I get home and put my reading glasses on and read his note on the invoice and he says that if the washers fail during the 12 month warranty they will replace them. So now if those washers fail after 12 months I'm back to square one where the diff has to be pulled off to replace $5 worth of washers. Told two people and still got missed. I was thinking of giving two stars but moved it up to 3 to try to be fair. I was missing one clip and they picked it up at the nearby dealer instead of closing it up with an old one and that deserves mention and a move up to 3 stars. I don't know what else you can do. I asked both the people that took the car in except maybe telling the mechanic myself, please replace the old brittle washers? read more

Great work and good guys at pro gear. The Ford Dealership actually recommended them for my 97 Ford F-150 as it needed the rear dif regeared from a 3:55 to a 4:10 after putting larger wheels on it. Although not their fault, waited for the delivery of parts to arrive, they were ready to install the new diff and spent a lot of meticulous time to get this gear set perfect as the shims have to be right, immediately when the gears arrived. I initially stopped in a few weeks ago after walking by the shop waiting for an oil change to get finished down the road. Took my 2005 Lincoln Town Car to a repair shop and was told that the problem was in the rear of my car, a type of work that they don't do but they recommended I take it to Pro Gear as soon as possible as the problem was very serious and I shouldn't be driving the car. I called Pro Gear and they where very nice on the phone and told me to bring my car in the next day. I did, and, after inspection, was told the problem was two fold in my differentials. They did the work quickly and efficiently and showed me the worn parts when I returned to get my car. Most of all they gave me, what I feel, is a very fair price for the parts and labor. The Pro Gear folks were awesome they received my 2002 Suburban via my phone call and a tow truck. They were able to look at the truck within 2 days and reported to me what they had found... they quoted me a cost and a time frame for the rear end rebuild and over delivered on both. Took my differential and carrier here to have all brand new parts swapped over to a new carrier. They found my ring & pinion to be bad so they sourced me a ring & pinion from Weir Performance which I explained I was hesitant about because of bad reviews I had read online but they told me they haven't had any complaints so I gave the okay to order and install that part. After all the work was finished, I installed everything back into my car only to find my car whines and now has this jet engine-like ringing. I take the car back to Pro Gear for a test drive and they explained this is normal for Weir parts and my car was the quietest Weir install they had ever heard. They did say if I would like, I can pull the part out of the car so they can have a look at it which yes sounds nice of them but is alot of work that I shouldn't have to go through again if everything was handled properly. I give Weir a call and they said their part shouldn't whine and I should take the car back to the shop immediately. Now I have no clue who is lying to me but I wish Pro Gear had told me that Weir parts do typically have a whining sound before I gave the okay for the part order. Now I'm pretty much stuck with a whining differential and out $350 in labor and $350 in a possibly crappy part. read more

These guys are great. I decided to try my hand at shortening a 8.8 rear end and rebuilding it. Things didn't go so well. I took it to pro gear where they straitened the axle housings, reassembled the rear end and even re-welded the mounting brackets for me. They went so far as to paint the rear end where the welding took place to match the painting I had already done. All of this at a very fair price and with a ridiculously fast turn around time. About a year and a half ago, I had taken my Jeep to Pro Gear to fix a re-gearing job that had been done at another shop. When I noticed some leakage around the rear pinion seal, I took it back to Pro Gear to inspect. Even though their original repair work was out of warranty, they replaced the rear pinion seal at no charge. The new owner explained to me that I should get a lot more than the 8,000 miles I had on the leaky seal. It's hard to find that kind of honesty in any repair shop. Will definitely be recommending them to the guys (and gals) that I wheel with. read more

My dad has had work done here a few times as have I. There work is always good and they stand by what they do. They are very easy to work with and talk to on the phone. They recently built a Ford Mustang 8.8 for my cobra and it came out great. Unrelated to their work there was a brake bracket mount that was bent and cause brake install issues. These guys are honest and efficient. I recommend them highly. I am a retired ASE certified master auto mechanic. I rebuild automatic transmissions and carburetors for fun, and have even written technical articles on carburetors. I've never been good at rearends...it takes special tools and art to get rearend gears set up so they don't make noise. I lack that skill, so I had to find someone to work on my 1999 Dodge motorhome's noisy rearend. The first place I took it to in El Cajon wanted to charge me an extra $170 because they didn't have a lift large enough for my motorhome, and they'd have to crawl underneath it. Well, their lack of investment in equipment shouldn't be my problem. I decided to shop further. I found Pro Gear in Kearny Mesa, and they have an outdoor lift that will take pretty much any vehicle size. I talked to the owner, and was impressed by his knowledge and kindness. The day of my appointment was a rare windy and rainy San Diego day, and the main technician who worked on my motorhome outside in the weather didn't complain a bit. He took the rearend apart, and the left carrier bearing was wiped out. Luckily, the axle bearings were good, and the ring and pinion looked good. Now, since I'm not a good rearend mechanic myself, they COULD have easily sold me a new gearset, but they cleaned it all up, and were able to re-use my gears, saving me about $300. I put 2000 miles on the motorhome right after that rebuild, and all is well. Job well done! read more

Let me tell you these guys are amazing! I wish I would have found them months ago. And Amazing customer service! I have a 2009 Ford F-150 4x4 with a horrible grinding noise. I had taken it to multiple shops and they had no idea what it was. So i did my own research and learned that the F-150 has crappy IWE set-ups and fail constantly, making the annoying noise I was having. So i went to other shops and told them what exactly to check, and no dice, they acted like I was an idiot. So finally I found Pro Gear, wrote them on yelp about my issue and right away was told to call for an appointment because he could help. Called the front desk an talked to a lady about making an appointment. They were booked 5-days out. I explained I was in the military and leaving out of country for 2 weeks. They worked with me and allowed me to drop my truck off a week in advance while out of country. Long story short, he communicated greatly through email and when i got back early called me immediately saying he found the issue, going to replace the parts and test drive to make sure all was good. Picked my truck up the same day it was worked on, amazing! And he said he's worked on F-150s multiple times with this issue. Dude was smart and communicative and huge help, a life saver. I had the opportunity to speak with the tech who performed the work and he gave details of a job that went as planned. I'd been to two mechanics and already had overpaid for a simple diagnosis before trying ProGear. I have a 1997 Isuzu Rodeo with 200k miles on it but is in really good condition. Anyway, it began making a whirring noise from the rear that got louder over a week or two. I took it to my usual mechanic who, at first, claimed he couldn't hear the noise (impossible!) then charged me almost $300 for an inspection and "diagnosis" that I ought to just junk it and buy something newer. They rear differential had normal wear and there was nothing they could do. I checked out Planetisuzu.com as a last resort and found a good reference to ProGear. I made the 60 mile drive to give Big Red one last chance for resurrection. Mark (the owner) took me for a test drive in the vehicle and new in less than a block that it truly WAS the rear differential and he'd inspect it for free. He warned me it might be an expensive repair but he'd let me know for sure. Mark called the SAME day to let me know the good and the bad: the rear bearings were fried but the rest of the components were fine; cost to repair was going to be $800. I took a shot and had them make the repair. It was ready THE NEXT DAY! Sure, I hated to part with $800 to repair such and old vehicle but, man, it was worth it to keep avoiding car payments!!
