Nicky has been cutting my hair and trimming my beard for almost 10 years or more, He started cutting my hair when they were in Rockaway. I have never gotten a bad haircut and almost always get complements on the cuts. I always make an appointment and never kept waiting. The guy who owns the place is older and he appears to be old school and appreciates his customers. I have seen Nicky many times cutting childrens hair and he seems pretty good at that too, Im hoping my daughter will one day let me bring my 5 year old grandson there for a cut one day. Okhwa cuts my 88-year-old mother-in-law's hair and treats her with respect and patience and she always looks great. There are many great hairstylists here. Had an appointment with Fortunado for 11:00 on Sunday March 7. Got there at 10:50. They did the speaker announcement that Fortunado your 11:00 appointment is here. At 11:05 front desk made another announcement, Fortunado your 11:15 appointment is here. I knew right then there would be a problem, and of course it was. At 11:07 Fortunado came around the corner and I told him, I am your 11:00 appointment. He looks at the front desk and they send the 11:15 person in. I told Fortunado that I guess I wasn't getting a haircut today and got up and left. As the door was closing he yelled sorry. Really, I am sitting there waiting 15 minutes in the waiting area and tell him that I am his appointment and this happens. Did anyone call me afterwards to apologize, of course not. Then after posting my the same original review on their Fb page that is posted on here, they sponded that it was a "fake" review, I made it all up and I came back 5 weeks later and wanted a touch up for free. Then proceeded to block me on fb. I wasn't aware I wasn't allowed to be honest and tell my experience to others so they could save themselves the trouble I've dealt with. Most unprofessional people and salon I've ever been too. If you look at the picture I shared on here, you can clearly see there's no touch up needed since there's no low lights to even touch up. I have been coming here for many years for the convenience and hours. As with any chain place, unless you find the right person, the results and attitude of employees varies greatly. I am writing this review regarding the price increase to $19 for a basic buzz cut for men. A long time employee expressed an attitude to me, as if they were undercharging ...? Excuse me with a regular tip that is almost $25 for a buzz cut, which often takes at the most 10 minutes. Since I get my hair cut every two or three weeks, I will have to find another place. For that kind of money, I expect much more consistent service and a better attitude from ALL their employees. Fortunately, there are many other options in the area. I have been coming here for about a year and still really enjoy the experience. I have used a few stylists but the best is Mary. I explained what i wanted and she told me what was going to look best and what worked for me. I really appreciated that she did that instead of just accepting what i asked for even if she knew it wasn't going to turn out right..after all I'm not the hair dresser! She mixed a color that i absolutely love and every time i get my hair done by her ladies in the salon are complimenting me and the other hair stylists ask her what she used to make that color. I have been bring my mother here since September 2017. My mom is in a wheelchair and everyone has always been very helpful. Today they went above and beyond. There is some kind of construction happening so there is no access to the ramps. One of the women up front came out and moved fencing so we could get into the store. When I was growing up, I used to get my hair cut here all the time, and they did pretty well by it. Last few times I visited? Not so much. I'm not sure whether its the skill of the stylists they hire that's decreased or they were always this mediocre and I just never noticed, having spent most of my youth with long, unlayered hair with straight untextured bangs. Maybe it's a combination of the two. The last time I was in here, about a year ago, I was getting a haircut a couple weeks before an important interview. I asked the girl who was cutting my hair to keep it short, very layered, with longer slanted layered bangs. She refused to bust out the clippers, would absolutely not go shorter no matter how many times I asked her, there was scarcely a layer in sight, and my bangs were straight across. It looked like I was an incompetent flapper or a middle aged politician's wife. The haircut she gave me might have looked okay on someone my mother's age, maybe, or a refugee from the 1920s. After she ignored my first five requests to go shorter and in heaven's name please not style it like *that* and no I don't use hairspray please don't use it on me, I just gave up, meekly thanked her, paid, and left, as I'm not big on causing scenes and this appointment had eaten up enough of my life as it was. The day before my interview, I ended up getting my hair recut elsewhere. They didn't do a very good job there either, but at least it didn't look as terrible. (If you're female, have short hair, and don't want to look like Hillary Clinton or your grandma, it seems like you're out of luck unless you find the fairy godmother of hairstylists.) Though I have to say, in it's defense, this Prohaircutters is A LOT better than the one in Rockaway. I left that place with a few noticeable chunks of hair missing after the woman (who spent the whole appointment trying to upsell me into getting highlights that would not match my hair color or skin tone in the slightest) mishandled the clippers cleaning up my neck line. She also obviously did not understand the meaning of "layered" and "longer in the front, shorter in the bacK" or "bangs," but some of that I ended up fixing with a pair of scissors over my sink, because, honestly, it wasn't gonna get any worse no matter what I did to it at that point. He went to Tina and it was awful I went to fortunado and it was not good. I went again today with my brother and he went to Tina and it couldn't get much worse. My brother complained to me that he kept saying I would like it long on the and a little shorter on the sides. They ended up like cutting the front of his hair to his hair line as if he was a 70 year man. He is 17. This was the worst hair cut he ever got. Mine wasn't much better. I had a friend who was displeased with Tina as well. Tina should be fired and never be aloud to go near anyone's hair. Same thing with fortunado. I got bullied cause of how bad he did. I LEFT CRYING! MEAN UNCARING WOMAN! .......A week prio to my mom's birthday i made 2 appointments. When we arrived the day of the appt. we were a few minutes late, but its obvious that we didnt do it on purpose. My mother is fighting for her life with stage 4 cancer so we walk slower than normal. When we were greeted they called the two woman up to take us and the one woman said "well they are late so to bad, I have to wash out my color i cant help, see if someone else can take them". The receptionist looked around and then at me and shrugged her shoulders. I said my mother can go and i will forgo a haircut. They kept harping on the fact that we were late, I apologized and they kept going and going, they said to me "Well we squeezed you in so". At this point i am mad, and i said well "i made appts a week ago, so if you were squeezing me in i dont want to be sqeezed in, i want my own appt". IF you didnt have the day i asked for, then dont "sqeeze" me tell me no and i will pick another day. And then something floated back to me they were quiet rude while taking my appt, last week.. and in April my first time there they told me to come at 1, i arrived on time and they swear my appt was 130, ok who knows i could have misunderstood, but i waited and waited and waited, the stylist was running late so i waited, finally getting my hair cute and leaving, i wonder now why they didnt send the person away that was late to begin with. ANYWAY, today was suppose to be a treat for my mother and I, something to do together and have a nice time, it was HORRIBLE i sat there waiting for her cut to be done so i could go outside and cry my eyes out.
