This place has been around for decades. 20 years ago, I was working at an optical office and we always send repair orders to Pro-mec or told the patient to go directly here. Fast forward, 20 years later, I finally was able to step foot in this place. Unfortunately my temples broke and I needed a replacement. There wasn't much option because I wanted plastic material for the temple on a metal frame. They were able to put new temples on but they were not spring hinges so now it's caused an indentation on my head. The price was also in the $50s. Still cheaper than getting a new pair. The wait time was about 30 minutes. Plenty of bakeries and shops nearby to walk around. read more

He tried to help me with my estimate over the phone even but I really needed to come in so he could see my glasses and the specific work required to be done. Pro-Mec repairs eyeglasses that other outfits can't or won't even touch. I've brought several pairs here to have repaired or altered over the years and I've always been pleased with their service and talent. This most recent time, I brought a new pair of glasses that didn't have nose pads to have Pro-Mec install entire new nose pads on them so that these new glasses sit properly on my nose. He will install entire new nose pads by drilling a tiny hole and then using a dot of glue to hold them in place. Who knew? But he does that too!! Although the nose pads are bigger than I would've preferred, at least I can wear these glasses comfortably! They did a professional job and I would highly recommend them! read more

Based on the reviews, this is the place, they've been serviced people since 1974, so I can trust their expertise. So I brought in my pair of glasses with chipped lenses, the employee at the front told me I needed to replace the lenses, so I asked if he could do it for me, unfortunately he said no. I've been meaning to go to this place for over five years. I had quite a collection of broken glasses. I brought in six pairs of glasses to be repaired. My favorite thing to do is to buy expensive eyewear, fall asleep with it on and break it. The service here was really great and fast. The quality of the repair to my frames and what was broken was exceptional. I really enjoy Alain Mikli and Cutler and Gross frames. He replaced the temples on my Cutler and Gross frames with Italian temples Tom Ford, and I love it because it makes me laugh. It also compliments the frame it makes it even more stylish. I dropped off all these pairs of glasses around 9:30 and all of them were fixed and done around 130. Really friendly helpful and I enjoyed being able to get the glasses. I have not been able to wear in years back again. I am really happy this place exist and I will continue to go back. read more

I've arrived here at about 4:32 pm, which was 28 minutes before their closing time; however, the gentleman at the counter was still appreciative for my business. Best of all, he was able to fix the bridge of my prescription eyeglasses as well as replaced the nose pads all within 25 minutes. My eyeglasses are as good as new, and paying $65 is far less than having to get a new pair that would cost about $450. With this excellent experience, I highly recommend getting your eyeglasses repaired here! Yes, there are closer locations from my residence that can repair my eyeglasses, but I wasnt convinced by the Yelp reviews that they can match the level of service that I've received here. read more

I broke my acetate frames and they were able to fix them for me. $45 to fix the frame was way better for my budget than spending $290 for new frames. I went to Pro-Mec to have a single temple piece changed on my prescription eye glasses. Simple fix. They wanted to overhaul everything. Change out both eye pads. Replace both temple pieces for $65. Kind of pricey so I said no thanks. Brought the glasses home and used a temple piece from a pair of readers. The glasses now work perfectly. Easy peasy. read more

The store is small but has such a charming interior. It feels like a little nook from the 80s away from the bustling North Park streets. I had two pairs of glasses that had been sitting and collecting dust. They were both mine and my boyfriend's favorite pairs of glasses so I knew I had to get them repaired. My glasses had a broken off nose bridge attachment which needed soldering. My boyfriend's glasses were sat on- the right hinge was completely loose. I had taken his pair to another eyeglass shop where they tried to tighten the screw on the side holding the hinge but it was much too loose and required a new screw entirely. They recommended I visit promec because they are the only glasses repair store in San Diego that can completely fix both pairs. I went in on a Thursday around 3pm and walked around the North Park farmer's market. I got a call that the glasses were ready in under 30 minutes! It was very affordable as well- both pairs combined came out to be less than $100 which was a relief because it was much cheaper than getting new pairs and we weren't able to find replacements for our favorites! This is the place for quality repairs. Have been here twice now. First time I had some Gucci glasses for myself from LensCrafters that had a broken hinge and was told could not be repaired. Reverted back to my old Tiffany pair and those were barely holding on. Finally Tiffany frame broke so I brought My Gucci glasses in. Over the phone was told repairs run anywhere from $17-$62 and I would need to bring them to have them seen and get a proper quote on repair. My first visit was a young man who was very proper and polite but not so much friendly. I had read other reviews so I knew they did quality work and moved forward with repair. Was quoted $50 because hinge needed soldering. Agreed and glasses were good as new. I was so happy, kicking myself for not getting them immediately repaired. Then the following month my kids got their glasses and my daughter's hinge came apart after being pulled on. I was upset but not worried because I knew this place could repair. This time a slightly older gentleman helped us and he was so friendly. Was quoted $40 and told he would repair immediately. He gifted my daughter a coloring book from their waiting room table. I left her water bottle behind and ran back to get it and it was on the counter waiting and he said "I was trying to find a way to get ahold of you". I brought my glasses in to be fixed because the arm broke off, and the day that I got them back they shattered and fell apart while on my face (i wasn't even touching them). i had no problems with the frames or lenses aside from the arm before, so i brought them back in with the warranty slip. they refused to take responsibility for breaking them and tried to charge me again to fix what they broke. very rude and unhelpful. edit response: glasses don't just randomly crack and fall apart while on your face. whatever stress or strain you applied while "fixing" them the first time caused them to break less than 24 hours later. that should be covered by the warranty. read more
