My boyfriend and I have had film developed here three times, and unfortunately each experience was disappointing. Every visit felt like we were inconveniencing them just by being there. Customer service wasn't friendly or welcoming, and we didn't really feel acknowledged as customers. We wanted to support a small business, which makes this even more disappointing. The reason this is a 2 star instead of a 1 star review is because the employee at the camera store who walked me to the curb to point out the printing lab was a gem. However, the employee in the photo lab was rude and dismissing. I had a print I needed for Christmas. For context, the print is a drawing my finance made for my mom commemorating my brother who died 2 weeks ago. I showed him the picture and he dismissively told me it couldn't be done by Christmas. When I said I would have to look elsewhere, given how important this gift is to me, he stared at me blankly and with a sarcastic tone told me "Good luck..." just a reminder to people to be kind, especially during the holidays...you don't know what other people, including potential customers, are going through. The self service ordering of prints has been up graded and no one working there knows how to use, I asked 3 clerks. I asked how will you stay in business, and was told most of their business is online. I was told to go home and order online, so I asked for help to order online with my phone while there to get my photos downloaded from my phone. I was told to go to FedEx. So don't bother using Pro Photo Supply for prints. Just go to FedEx and save yourself a trip. read more

Great welcoming place, even for beginners like myself. Purchased a Nikon ZF at another retailer and was without a lens with reach, so I came here to see some options. An employee kindly talked over the pros and cons of their lineup, allowing me to try as many as I'd like on my camera to get a feel for them. After about an hour, and much deliberation, I decided to pick up this 24-120 s lens and am absolutely thrilled with it. I recently bought a used camera lens from Pro Photo Supply in Portland. I over the weekend to use it and it out and there is a dust spot inside the lens. Every photo I take has a black spot in the center of I have to fix on my computer. I took the linens back to Pro Photo the next day and they refused to take the lens back. their policy is if you buy something used, absolutely no returns even if They sell you something faulty. I would not shop here. Beware. I have spent thousands of dollars at the store and there was no consideration for my longtime loyalty. read more

The worst experience ever. I purchased a len for my son with the money he has saved up from all his chores. I went online and saw the lens listed for $157. I checked it out and paid with my credit card. The following day, I received an email from the supervisor stating that there was an error in the online pricing and my order has been canceled and refunded. I kindly emailed back asking if he was able to do something to help us. His response was there was nothing he can do. It was truly a mistake on THEIR end with the price that was listed and they should HONOR it. Most retail stores will honor because it's a mistake on them. Apparently this place wouldn't. You might have your own terms where you can cancel and change the price whenever you want. However, I strongly believe in Consumer Rights. I'm going to file a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Instead of trying to make things work, he said I can go buy it at the original listed price of $349.99. read more

One where I didn't know the name of the camera my Partner wanted and they helped me figure it out and surprise him! They pointed in the best direction since they didn't carry the camera themselves but first they made sure I knew exactly what I was looking for. And more recently I got to work with Nick (who was amazing) to get the perfect matte box for our lenses! He even did a little research and called us back before we went down to the store! Great guy!! So I've been a customer of this place a few times and previously had a wonderful experience! To the point when I came into town I wanted to have my photos developed and shipped by them because I love how they've handled my orders in the past. However this time I went in asked for my photos to be printed 5x7 and a digital copy of them on a drive to be sent to me in Chicago. Now what I got was an email with the photos and a month later got the negatives in the mail. While that's all fine it's not what I pained extra for. I called them about 2 times and never heard back..... so I'm out $40 and don't have my photos.... Also not sure what happened because if you look at the envelope it clearly says what I paid for?? In over 40 years of doing personal and professional photography I seen huge changes in the way people chronicle their lives through photography. Many things have come and gone in those years, you never see a Fotomat in a parking lot anymore. Try to find 35mm film in a big box store anymore. Long waits for film processing. Old film sizes have gone extinct, goodbye 135, 120, 110 and 126 camera film. Throughout all the changes since 1983 there has been Pro Photo Supply to help guide us. Knowledgeable staff in both the sales and photo processing ends of the business. Conveniently located near downtown Portland. Quick service and reasonable prices. The hallmark of any good business that has been around as long as they have. Recently, I project of mine required me to revisit my 35mm archives and get hundreds of photos reprinted, some switched to digital, and some blown up. Pro Photo Supply helped me through all of that, made some great suggestions to save money, and even arranged some things I did not to more properly catalog them. And, they did it all without breaking the bank! In an era were all our precious memories need to be digitized because even photo paper can degrade over time, it is good to know there are some people that remember how to work with the old ways and bring them into the new. And new photo equipment? The very latest and greatest in digital cameras, every accessory you can think of and I am willing to bet, more than you can imagine. Great service, knowledgeable staff and parking in Portland. Having staff that know the products and specifications and how they are commonly applied is very valuable to photographers from entry level to seasoned expert. Pro Photo Supply has that in spades! Very great place. I had a camera and an afternoon to kill before my flight the next day and needed advice. They were helpful and had great recommendations. When I got rained out a while later, I decided to bring back the filters I had purchased since I never opened them and they took them back no problem. I'm a older female photographer who has purchased much of my camera equipment here over the years. I was ready to make a substantial purchase today and wanted to use a gift card to apply to purchase. Seems they changed their system and had a great deal of trouble finding how much was on the card. The manager just wasn't terribly interested in selling to me. He did go to a great deal of effort trying to find out the balance on the card though. The store looks gutted of inventory. So sad. I hadn't been here since Covid started. read more

I've updated this review because Pro Photo has obviously made some significant and visible changes to the way they do business in recent months. The past few times I have been there the staff has been very knowledgeable and very helpful. Of course they have always had a huge in-store inventory so the chances of walking out the door with what you want have always been good. This is a major differentiator between Pro Photo and the several online businesses that I often buy from. Since they have demo gear for me to look at and play with I don't feel right about buying something I saw at Pro Photo online so I have been increasing the amount of business I do at Pro Photo over the past couple of years. I don't know if this is a factor but I am a high end amateur photographer and generally purchase professional or close to professional grade gear so perhaps the pros get better treatment? Pro Photo's prices are pretty competitive and their warranty policies are similar to what you get from the online sellers. Biggest complaint about this place is that they are in the Pearl where parking can be difficult. If they continue treating me as a valued customer I will continue buying from them. read more

Pro Photo Supply has always been my "go to" store for photography. I have purchased several Nikon Cameras from them and have always been pleased with the camera and support following the purchase. Recently, I purchased a Nikon Z 7ii and am very happy with the camera. Last weekend I was involved in a photoshoot and had a problem viewing pictures on the display screen. I took the camera in to Pro Photo Supply and explained the problem to Dann Wunderfurn. Within a minute or two he had diagnosed the problem, (a small hair on an eye sensor), and quickly removed the hair and cleaned the eye sensor. The result is that my Nikon Z 7ii is back to working in an excellent manner. I can not say enough good things about Dann. Watched a salesman spend quite a while with a young man and his mom. The young man wanted to get into making videos but didn't have a lot of money saved. You would have thought the young man was buying one of everything in the store the way the salesman treated him. Very nice to see that kind of customer service in this day and age. I love the staff at the store and at the rental department, and their pro desk is there to help anytime. I will keep it simple. If you want something go in, right away. Especially if they say they have it. We have called 3 times, twice asking for the item to be held after learning the first time, and the wanted item (a camera body and 2 lenses) have been sold or "already put on hold" by some else only minutes before us. ****I do want to note when items are sold, they call and have always offered to call back when they get in a replacement. If you don't want or "need" your item right away, the item right away this may work for you. The shop is cool and staff nice and will help when needed. As mentioned in other reviews, they are busy a lot and you do have to assert yourself to get help or in line for help. They often will have what you need, but really need to work on their system for holds and for helping customers in order. read more

Employees (in particular an older gentleman working with the used gear) talked to me with a condescending tone acting like I knew nothing because of my young age. As much as I'd love to support a local store, I'm not going to be visiting or purchasing products from them again. Every time I've visited, the employees have been very rude and do not seem to have any interest in helping. I'm 17 years old and extremely serious about photography. I've been working with a professional for the past 7 months and have been selling prints and working with clients for the past year. However whenever I go here, the employees assume because of my young age that I don't know what I'm talking about. They talk to me like I'm a little kid, and make me feel like whatever I say in incorrect and they have a better answer. No customer should be treated that way and I do not want to support a business like this. I recently visited Pro Photo Supply to pick up a gift card which had been sent to the store as a high school graduation present. When I gave them my last name and asked for the card, they laughed at me and said they didn't know what I was talking about. I explained the situation multiple times, and they didn't seem to believe me. They said they needed to "see" the physical card saying that it was sent there, or in other words saying that they didn't believe me. Am I too young to be trusted? I cannot talk about everyone when I say this, I'm sure there are some great employees that work here, but the people I've worked with, an older gentleman in particular have been very rude and used a condescending tone when "helping" me. I will not be going back here, and instead will stick to online ordering. I've given it multiple visits over the past year and have never had a good experience. I would strongly advise you to go elsewhere when shopping. P.S. Don't ever attempt to trade in gear here, they offered me $65 for an excellent condition (with box) Rokinon 20mm 1.8 lens which I purchased for $550. read more

Very poor costumer service. I'm usually very unassuming about people's comments and I usually don't leave comments on yelp. This experience has been very traumatizing for me as a novice photographer. I came to this store thinking that I could buy equipment from them and get a few tips about assembly. The sales associate interrupted me after my 2nd question and told me to go read the manual. He said "we are trying to make money here and they can't spend time talking" That is very unacceptable. I ended up returning my item and won't return to this store. P.s. I did report this to other associates and they were apologetic about this incidence. However after reading the other comments, this doesn't seem like the first time this has happened. read more

This is an updated review because my last experience wasn't the best. I went to Pro Photo today to check out some tripods. Haven't been impressed with the customer service in the past. But today was something special. They were pretty crowded for it being early in the morning but the customer service was excellent. I spoke with Erik who actually asked me if I needed anything and he was pretty busy there's a lot of people trying to get his attention. I bought a tripod set up and I love it with wheels as a special attachment . I want to thank Erik for doing such a great job in helping me out with this. I was also asking him about Wacom Cintiq pads and he told me they had an office just down the road. I went down there and messed around with one and loved it and ordered one. Went to Pro Photo Supply my first time about 5 months ago. I was new to photography and didn't know much. I went to buy a specific lens that their website said they had, I called, and got confirmation of them having. When I went there, the lens was apparently never in their system. The guy sold me on another lens, to find out he lied about a few things on it. So, I went back in for them to make it right, even if I end up paying a fee to restock it, and they denied everything, and all the lies. I went back in a few months later, after taking a few classes and better preparing my self, to find out that the staff here is just very uneducated. Anyhow, I gave them a few chances, even a chance to make it good with me, and they fail again and again. I would not shop here as a pro, or as a beginner. I now live in Portland so I decided to try out Pro Photo Supply, and I couldn't be happier. The entire staff is kind, professional, passionate, and most importantly supportive of their community. I recently purchased a professional Epson inkjet printer, which I was going to order through the other store and have shipped to me. Pro Photo Supply was so friendly and easy to work with. They had the printer in stock, for which I was able to pay with ease and security through a direct link online, and was personally delivered to me the next day. Shout out to Eric. First time visiting Portland and my friend recommend Pro photo supply. I was planning to buy a mirrorless camera was debating between Canon and the Sony. I ended up purchase the Canon EOS R, Eric was super patient and knowledgeable to explain the differences between each camera. And the best part I can demo different cameras (EOS R, Sony A7R iii, Sony A7iii) with my own lens. Also, which business doesn't have an easy interface to check availability or inventory of products? It's 2019, guys. I remember having gone in here years before because I left a card reader at home and some guy trying to school me about said card readers. Sure, okay, while you're attempting to be condescending to customers you're also probably bitter that you never made it as a photographer? Ya' know ... as most people who end up "behind the counter of a camera shop." It's too bad the PNW really doesn't have the level of pro-shop that LA and NYC have. Nikon, Canon, Nikon, Canon? What is a girl to do? I reached a state of complete analysis paralysis once I decided I was finally going to upgrade my point-and-shoot with a digital SLR this Christmas. After my usual copious amounts of research including reviewing Consumer Reports, http://www.dpreview.com/ and the endless questioning of friends and family (some professional photographers), I still couldn't decide. Every time I thought the choice was clear, something or someone would start leading me in the other direction. This is when it is essential to visit a camera store with a large selection of products and knowledgeable staff and just start playing with the different models. My list was down to three and I eliminated one within 5 minutes. The sales person then reassured me that both of my remaining picks were great comparable choices and without pushing me one way or another laid out the differences between the cameras. This process took about an hour and I never once got a "Buy it already!" look. We discussed pricing and I decided to think about it for another week. When I returned, I walked up to the busy counter and announced, "I'm ready to buy a camera! I'll take the XXX Model XXX." And he looked really sad as he responded, "I'm so sorry I can't sell that to you." Turns out they are completely sold out and won't get new models until next year. So I go outside and think to myself... I can probably go to Costco and pick up the first model at the same price or slightly less, or I can give a local shop my business and go with the other model that will suit my needs just fine. So I return to the counter. "I'm ready to buy a camera! I'll take the YYY Model YYY." And we laugh. Sometimes I spend way too much time stressing the small stuff and perhaps the universe is saying this is the camera for you. Spreadsheets and analysis are great, but sometimes you've just got to go with the flow. And take only photographs and leave only footprints. read more
