I was delightfully surprised when I just casually dropped in around 3:30 pm on a Tuesday. I had NO idea what or why I needed an alignment. It was explained to me in detail and I was NOT talked down to for being a female. They also caught the fact that when I had just purchased tires 1 of my tires was actually a smaller size!! I called them on the phone, asking how long it would take to have the oil changed RIGHT NOW. I got an answer "25 minutes". 10 minutes later, in the shop, the wait is 1.5 hours. While the oil-change price is more reasonable here than at most other places in town, this "phone miscommunication" is awful. Even if the person thought I might have a purely "academic" or "theoretical" interest about the length of oil change, he should've told about the current wait. In the end, the person at the front desk felt apologetic, and they completed the job within less than an hour. Hence, 3 stars instead of 1 that I was going to give upon hearing about 1.5 hours. On the positive side, - they have a working wi-fi, so that my wife can work while waiting. read more

These guys have often been far cheaper, quicker and provided accurate. They are quick to take care of you and provide of exactly what is wrong with the vehicle. They also use common sense when diagnosing a vehicle and offer different options when evaluating your vehicle's repairs. I have used them for my vehicles that no longer have warranties and I have been satisfied the three times I've been here in the last two. I went there to ask if they fixed tires because my tire had just gotten a flat when I was going to the gas station, this place just happened to be right next to it. I was looking how anyone looks when they're just going to the gas station. When the guy finally acknowledged me he looked me up and down like I was some sort of bum off the street, I asked him if they fixed tires and he said yeah but we're booked up until the afternoon, it's only 10:21 so I said okay thank you! This dude couldn't even say you're welcome or sorry we couldn't help. This guy was dark haired man middle of the picture with all of them jumping with the beard. This place is horrible, I don't know if they are sexist or just super rude to everyone equally but they really shouldn't be treating customers like garbage. I had been getting service from pro-tec last 3 years. Their service looks good. However, Sometimes, one guy made me very angry with some words like "your car is mother's car". I could not understand why he mentioned the entirely useless words to me, even I am a customer. Also, I changed break system but it was not working well within 6 months. I met some very dangerous situation when I had a trip on some mountains. I visited other body shop and the guys said this part is too much cheap. I am not sure this situation is only for me or not. Have a student at A&M & found herself with car issues. Being 2 hours from home, we had to find a auto repair in College Station. We stumbled upon this auto repair shop. Their pricing was perfectly in line with our mechanic in our area. The service & communication exceeded our expectations. Came in because of some coolant problem/engine overheating. After about an hour of diagnosing they tell me what's wrong and that it's gonna cost about $400. I had no choice since I had to go out of town that day so I paid for that and waited ALL day to get it fixed. A day later the same thing started happening. I brought it back as soon as I got back and they told me the real problem was something totally different and that it would cost me another $500. Just a bunch of liars. read more

You better wear an asbestos suit, because if you let them work on your vehicle you're gonna get burned...... I recently purchased a new set of tires and wanted to get the front end aligned. After making several calls and reading reviews of the available options in B/CS, I decided on Pro-Tec. I was told that they would do a "diagnostic" to make sure everything was in order to perform the alignment and the price of the "diagnostic" ($29.95) would be deducted from the cost of any repair (should there be anything found) if I decided to have them to do it. After having my vehicle in their shop for about 15 minutes they determined that I needed a pair of items repaired and another replaced for a total of almost $700.00! What they didn't realize, is that I just had my entire front end worked on (including those self-same items) the week before by my own mechanic! I declined their offer to "repair" my vehicle, and even went back to consult my own mechanic (which I have been doing business with for over 30 years) to either confirm or deny Pro-Tec's diagnosis. I already knew the answer, I just like to cover my bases (even though I know the work in question had already been done by my mechanic). When you take in their price, plus their so-called "diagnostic" fee, you aren't really saving anything over their competition, unless of course they "find" something wrong; then you can save money by going elsewhere - and who knows, you may find that you didn't need that "repair" anyway. read more

So I wrote a two (and a half) star review in November and yesterday the owner (who I thought was the office manager), Donna, reached out to me out of the blue after reading the previous review and offered to give me my money back. We had a great talk and once again she went kind of over and beyond in the customer service department and I hung up feeling a lot better about the situation, which I had pretty much just written off and forgotten about. I have been a student in College Station for a few years but only recently purchased a car and with that came the obvious need to find an honest, affordable, friendly, and knowledgeable mechanic. To anyone, including myself, those sound like impossible standards to meet but Pro-tec has pulled it off. Before I even took my car in I had called them a few times to ask questions and get a few quotes for diagnostics and repairs. Each time, the person answering the phone was polite and helpful and answered my questions without being condescending. The first thing I took my car in for was a brake system flush. The price was reasonable and they made sure to check for leaks at no extra cost. They also informed me that I had a very small oil leak but they didn't think it was severe enough to warrant repair. Most mechanics would have tried to sell that unnecessary repair until they were blue in the face. They also were happy to take a look at another issue I was having and give me helpful advice, also without trying to sell me a repair or charging me extra. I later took my car in for an oil change. The place is perpetually packed, most likely for similar reasons to the ones mentioned above, but they still bent over backwards to get me in that day. This shop has an amazingly friendly small town atmosphere. Everyone is on a first name basis with each other and every other customer I talked to was just as impressed with this place. I had my car's oil changed here this morning and they were quick, professional, and informative with all my questions and concerns. I came back a few hours later because I noticed a small oil pool underneath my car and they were happy to check if there was something wrong. Everything turned out fine and they said that the oil I saw was the old oil that they drained which fell into a catch pan and poured out when I parked on an incline. Reasonable prices and great service. I first found Pro-Tec on Yelp when I was looking for a place to change my oil a year ago. Ever since then, this is the only mechanic I take my car to. The owner is very friendly, doesn't BS you and gets your car fixed in the same day. What hooked me was when I was concerned about my brakes. The mechanic checked them and said, "don't worry about it. If you were my daughter, I wouldn't worry about it." He was still willing to change them to ease my worry, but he seemed sincere, and so I trusted him.
