He then charged me for the extra miles, even though he had driven over a 1/2 mile out of the way in the wrong direction to get dinner (and blocked a bunch of cars who got upset while he ate). Ricardo was dispatched by AAA to retrieve a Land Rover. He was extremely communicative before and post tow. He wowed both auto enthusiasts at both ends of the trip with his professionalism and care in loading, securing and unloading the vehicle. While this tow was unexpected due to a breakdown, we would absolutely use them to transport the rotation of aged/antique cars that said car enthusiasts cycle through. I tried to get a battery at my local auto parts store, and the price was $80 more than having AAA come out and replace it for me. AAA dispatched Pro-Tech Towing and Recovery with a driver who insisted on replacing the battery with the engine running on my Volvo S80. I asked him to shut off the engine as he was disconnecting the battery and he said he always did it with the car running. I asked again for him to not do that since it can be devastating to the car to disconnect the battery when the car is running as the alternator often spikes when the battery load is removed causing damage. The driver said point blank, "DO YOU WANT THE BATTERY OR NOT", I said yes, and he said "THEN LET ME DO IT MY WAY, THE RIGHT WAY". He then disconnected the battery causing an arc. The car did run off the alternator for about 2 minutes while he got the new battery and hooked it up running, again arcing the terminals to reconnect it. After he left I drove the car to work and the windows would not drop. Also, the cooling fan motor that stays on for 30 seconds to 1 minute after driving would not shut off. AAA said because it was Friday afternoon I would need to wait until Monday to call customer service. I had to keep disconnecting the battery when I reached my destination to shut off the fan or it would run continuously and was not only loud, but it drained the new battery. On Monday AAA took a claim and said no problem, have the car fixed and they would require PRO TECH to pay the repairs. I had the repairs done at the Volvo dealer next to my office and the bill was $1,775.89 to fix the relay module that was cooked with a voltage spike and fix the power window module. After making payment, AAA denied my claim and said PRO TECH was not responsible and if I didn't have a video of the driver replacing the battery with the car running, I would need to file a claim with my auto insurance. PRO TECH should be removed from AAA's list of authorized service providers. I have been a AAA member since 1988 and was very disappointed they didn't hold PRO TECH responsible. Luckily, GEICO processed it as a comprehensive auto claim and paid in full and they are in the process of suing PRO-TECH for the bill. If PRO TECH shows up for your battery, remember their motto: "beware - we don't give a care." read more

I just want to leave a note for the amazing kindness of your AAA service driver Aziz. I had a flat tire on my own driveway and called AAA. They dispatched your service and Aziz is the tech who came to change the tire. It's at night, and in the process of trying to use my cell phone to light for him, the magnetic wallet on my phone - along with my license, credit cards, ID fell off - and because it's magnetic, it got stuck on his jacket. Anyway, I had no idea and went about my business and went to a meeting. My phone rang three times - and I didn't answer. Turns out, Aziz found it and tried to call me. And when he couldn't reach me, he drove ALL THE WAY BACK to our house and gave it to my wife 20 minutes later. That is so amazing and I am truly grateful. Can't thank Aziz enough. read more

No one likes a dead battery, but Pro Tech Towing made the experience the best one I've had. I used my AAA card to request service and had a Pro Tech mechanic out to my address within 20 minutes. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of time that it took him to arrive. I was pretty positive the issue was my battery, but the mechanics tested the battery to make sure it was dead, was up front about the cost of the battery replacement, and had a new battery installed in 15 minutes. The entire experience took ~45 minutes from start to finish. The mechanic was kind and knowledgeable. I really couldn't have asked for anything more. The guy who came and towed my little car today *REALLY* knew what he was doing and was super fast. Plus the truck was great - one of those ones with a platform, not the kind that drags your car behind it. It went amazing despite crazy challenges. My poor little car was in parallel parking on a side street in Cambridge (with cars parked on both sides of a narrow street) in a busy area, and wouldn't start despite trying to jump it. My insurance sent them and he arrived with his truck surprisingly fast. He had cleverly pulled over out of the way until I got there too. When he saw where my car was and that it wouldn't start, and was like oh I can't tow it from here, I was thinking "oh nooooo" but then he got a battery out, got my car running (!), quickly put his truck in front of it, drove my car onto the truck *with* the hood up with his battery keeping my car running, then tied it on and closed up, extremely quickly. Lots of cars, including a garbage truck, were building up behind us but it happened so fast (plus I waved and apologized) that no one was even mad. He took off super fast once the car was on and let the other cars pass. I wanted to cry I was so relieved. Guy is amazing. Give him a raise. read more

Drivers who came out to charge a battery are incompetent! First one brought out a faulty jump start charger and told me I needed a diagnostic evaluation to see why my "new" battery wouldn't charge. Told me to have my car towed for repair! The second driver for same problem came with a functioning jump start charger. My battery turned over immediately. Driver no. 2 also told me my battery was "new" and to see what was draining my battery. I took my car to a Toyota dealer who told me my battery was 4 years old and replaced it. This company was dispatched to retrieve my 2015 Ram Truck at my home, and when the driver arrived the encounter began okay, but the driver quickly took my frustration over the situation of the truck being disabled "personally" when it certainly wasn't and had the audacity to tell me to my face that I had a bad attitude. I explained multiple times I wasn't upset with him, but this evidently wasn't satisfactory. The driver attempted to get my truck into neutral several times, but was unsuccessful according to him. He also had a few other issues with this call as he made excuses about having to park the tow truck in the roadway and having to block traffic etc., etc. His parting words were he would call his dispatcher and send a truck that could tow the truck without putting it in neutral and Poof! he was gone. Two and a half hours later I call the service provider [roadside assistance] to find out the status of the second trucks arrival. I am told by the service provider that Pro Tech never sent a truck, and wasn't going to send a truck, that their driver didn't tell me anything about sending a second truck. A complete bald faced lie! I guess I imagined that entire exchange in my driveway. Oh wait, I have a bad attitude...because disabled trucks in my driveway are supposed to make me happy. Maybe I should have tapped danced and clapped when he arrived. If I could give this company a negative star rating I would. If the in person exchange wasn't bad enough, the out right lies to my roadside assistance company is at the very least completely unethical. Any company that would do this to a paying client should rethink their business model. And now I really do have a bad attitude. read more

I own an 11,000 lb. truck. The engine wouldn't crank and thus needed a tow. Pro-Tech sent a heavy duty tow...exactly what was needed. Rudy was amazing in both his speed and quality. I didn't have to do a thing, but hand him my credit card...which was a relief with such a large and older vehicle. They should leave a place on the receipt for tips. That's how much you'll appreciate their service. I took off one star because I called at 10 and they said they'd be there at 11...and they didn't arrive until 12:15. I'd rather an accurate time over speed. I also can't say that I loved the idea that it took almost exactly an hour for the tow...including driving the 10 miles to the service center...however, they charge for two hours at $125/hr for the 30 minute drive from and back to where they're located...pretty steep...ouch. Shady place! I dropped my car to get two rims replaced. Guy says it will be over an hour, I said I will be back before 6 and walked home which is only 5 mins away... I then took my other car to run an errand... I see the same car thats supposedly getting work done over a mile away. I was shocked to see it being driven around... anyways I kept going ahead with my plans... 20 mins later this guy calls me to say they dont have the TPMS sensor for this, so they cant replace it... Why would he not tell me that when he took the car? So shady! So he could take my car for a joy ride?? Such low lifes! I will never return here. My roadside assistance assigned Pro Tech to my tow at 10:30pm. I was given a 3 hour wait time. I was surprised but comfortable at a friends place waiting. Five minutes after my assistance call, I received a call from Pro Tech looking for my credit card info for the extra mileage (I have basic assistance). I explained that I was waiting inside nearby because my car was parked on a dead end street in downtown Boston in the middle of the night and that the driver should contact me when he is close. The person I spoke to tried to convince me to leave my car unlocked with keys inside and I told him I didn't feel safe doing that. He told me he wouldn't want to disturb me when they arrive, but I said multiple times that I was waiting up for them and would meet the driver at my car. Three hours goes by and I contact my roadside assistance. They tell me that its going to be another 45 minutes at least because Pro Tech had the job down as unattended so they had no urgency in getting to my car. I get an alert that the truck will arrive in 20 minutes so I go to my car and wait inside. No truck, but I got to see some guys doing drugs in their car and then one of them get out and urinate with dick in full view. And he knew I was there. Awesome. So I go back to my friends apartment and call Pro Tech. The same man I spoke to earlier tells me unapologetically it's going to be hours. HOURS. Plural. Now its 3AM and I have to wake up in less than 5 hours. I told him to cancel the job and he didn't care at all. I told him that while I was waiting I read all of the terrible review on yelp and I would be adding my own. He then hung up on me. I was so sketched out by this company that I canceled my credit card just because I didn't trust them not to charge me. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! These guys are a mess. We had a tow scheduled (via BMW roadside assistance). They were meant to take us from our home in Needham to the dealer in Allston. At the scheduled time, we watched the tow truck roll up to the house, very slowly as it was about to stop - then inexplicably, hit the gas and drive away. We waited about 15 minutes, in the off chance that the driver may have thought they had the wrong house, and maybe they were coming back. After it was clear they weren't, I called Pro Tech, only to be greeted by a gruff voice on the other line, telling me that they had no jobs scheduled in Needham - despite the fact that I had the confirmation, and had literally just seen the truck outside of the house. When I explained this, the person on the phone said "we have a lot of trucks out there" and abruptly hung up. I called BMW roadside assistance back (they had scheduled the tow), to learn that Pro Tech had simply cancelled the job at the last minute, with no explanation, and told no one. Call anyone else. When I say anyone, I mean ANYONE. Another company. Your cousin that you hate because he keeps asking you for money but conveniently owns a truck. Your 97 year old neighbor to keep you company while you push your car/motorcycle. I am a member of AMA (American Motorcyclist Association) who provide free towing up to 35 miles annually. They are fantastic, and so is their customer service, but unfortunately for me they called this sad, sad excuse for a company to tow my bike. I was told it would take 1.5 hours. "What? Really? They are 3 miles away! Fine, I'll wait." ...2 hours later, I called back, and AMA checked with Pro-Tech. "They were stuck in traffic." Now, you want to be lazy and dishonest Pro-Tech that's fine, but please don't take me for a fool. Fine, one more chance. They told me it'd take another 45 minutes. ...1 hour later, I call AMA back because Pro Tech still hasn't showed up. They let me know that Pro Tech would continuously "update" the expected time of arrival, meaning that if I continued to wait I would be sitting here until the cows go home because let's just be perfectly honest, they are ~never~ showing up. read more

On a blustery 5 degree morning, I hit a legendary pothole and knew my tire was toast. I pulled into a Shell gas station, called roadside assistance, and was given the usual 60 minute window. I settled in to waste my data watching Netflix on my mobile. However, not five minutes into an episode of FNL, the truck pulled in. The driver was kind and an extremely fast worker. Although I was trying to look tough standing next to him as he readied the jack, he saw that I was freezing and allowed me to sit in my car with the heat cranking as he put the spare on. The whole ordeal took 20 minutes. Stellar work from a kind technician. I wish my brain hadn't been frozen so I could've remembered to get his name! read more

I've recently had a stretch of bad luck with my car. My brake system was completely depleted, and unless I cut a hole in the floor and decided to peddle Flinstone style, I needed to have it fixed. I had the car towed to Glenville Terrace Auto Body, which had came highly recommended through Yelp. Long story short, the brakes were fixed, but they severed my hood latch trying to get the hood open and left me with 4 large dents on my hood that I will now need to have fixed and repainted. Just my luck. $1500 out of my bank account, and I was left having to wipe my chin as I walked away saying thank you. It's not over. After they severed my hood latch, I could no longer open my hood. My battery had an issue one day, could not start, and I couldn't get the hood open to check the batteries charge and terminal connection. I was forced to have the car towed to my home, and during the tow the AAA rep popped my front passenger tire. So now I needed to fix my battery, get a new tire, and fix my hood latch. I dared not contact Glenville Terrace again, for fear they might smash my window this time, but I needed to get a charge on my battery. I called AAA again, and they sent over a rep from Pro-Tech. I told him the issue, and within seconds he had my hood popped open and was working on charging my battery. The car quickly got a charge, and resulting from his prompt service I tipped him and asked him to tow the car to his auto body to fix the tire and the latch. All was completed promptly, and inexpensively. A great end to a horrible stretch of bad luck with my car. There is hope to be had amidst vehicular tragedy. Radiator got damaged on the road, causing the fluid to leak out. Contacted Amex roadside service. And was notified that Pro Tech would be at my location in 45 mins. I immediately Yelped them, and got really concerned by the reviews here. However before I could contact Amex about a diff tow company, I got a call that they were 5 mins out. Not nearly 15 mins of the 45min expected wait. I decided to give them a shot. As the guy on the phone sounded really polite and courteous. Either way Andy arrived shortly, and went about prepping my car to be loaded on the flat bed. As my car is quite low with a front lip, I was a little worried this wouldn't work out. Andy took more ramps out of his truck (talk about prepared) and went ahead to guide me up the ramp. Car cleared perfectly. We drove together to the workshop of my choice, and he didn't speed, followed all traffic signs, and gave himself a huge following distance behind traffic. Unloading went as smoothly as loading. No issues whatsoever. I would definitely go with these guys if I ever needed another tow. Thanks guys! read more

My roadside assistance (Better World Club) called them for me twice in the past 2 months. In both instances, they arrived almost 1.5 hours past the estimated time that initially quoted. The guys did a good job once they got to my car. Quick and resourceful. But the false time estimates were really upsetting. When my roadside assistance company or I would call, they each of us the run around by saying it would be just another 20 minutes...then another 30. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! If I could give them 0 stars I would. My road side assistance called this company to tow me and my four other passengers. So when I received the number I called immediately to confirm and to check if they had a tow with a big cab, but if not it was no problem to arrange a ride. They told us to figure rides out and leave the keys under the mat with our car unlocked. (Start time:7:00pm) FIRST OF ALL. we were in an unfamiliar part of Newton and we were fortunate enough for the dunkin donuts and liquor store we got dropped off at let us keep the car in the spot near their dumpster in the first place. I explained to the man on the other end of the line that we simply didn't feel comfortable and we would wait until they picked up the car and he said that was okay. He then told me it would be about 15-20 mins. 45 MINUTES LATER (time: 7:45) no sign of the tow company. I called them back and asked where they were and he proceeded to tell me that he "thought we were gonna get rides home and leave the car" I said "no, I SPECIFICALLY said we were not comfortable leaving the car in an unfamiliar area" he then told me to not raise my voice, which I didn't but I'm sure he sensed the hostility in my voice. He told us they would be there in 25 minutes. TIME: 8:15 NO TOW COMPANY. Not feeling like dealing with the company, we called our road side assistance back and they had us wait on the line while they contacted the tow company. The tow company gave them a wait time of 25 MORE MINUTES!! So now it's 8:25pm and we have to wait another 25 more minutes in a dark place in a random dunkin donuts. TIME: 9:00pm no sign of towing company, so while I'm calling back the road side assistance, my mom is calling another towing company who can make it there soon. Finally we get in touch with Mobile Auto Clinic Towing (so great and affordable) and they give us a 25 min wait. No problem. We have just been there for already 2 hours. TIME: 9:25pm FINALLY THEY SHOW UP! CONGRATS AND THANKS FOR COMING BUT GO KICK ROCKS!!! He tells me that our road side assistance just called them, and I said yeah to file a complaint. You guys can leave now. And just like that at 9:27pm our new tow truck driver shows up. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY. SO UNPROFESSIONAL AND SO MUCH TIME WASTED ON THEM! Save yourself the headache!! My car was dead so I called AAA to have someone come and replace the battery, and unfortunately for me and my car's engine, Pro Tech arrived. First, the man spent about 15 minutes driving aimlessly around my apt complex until I had to walk him to my car. He popped the hood, charged up the battery. I asked him if the battery was ok or not, and he was unable to put a coherent sentence together. Then he got a wrench from his truck and proceeded to drop said wrench into my engine. I was idly standing by and didn't notice this was why he was frantically searching around my engine for 5 minutes. Once I realized what happened, I asked if he had a back up wrench, and he said he only had one wrench. I had to go retrieve a wrench of my own at this point. My wrench was too big and didn't work either. At this point, I asked him if he could go back to the shop and bring back a new wrench. he said its his own wrench, and he angrily told me the wrench cost $20 (not true), and he'd have to buy one on Monday in Natick. Then I told him that he was liable for damages due to the wrench stuck in my engine, and asked if he was affiliated with AAA (his truck had AAA decals on it), and he didn't understand what the word "affiliated" meant and said he didn't care, and that all engines have "lots of things" in them. They do - it's called an engine, not foreign objects. He then stated that he was losing money and that he didn't care if my car's battery could get fixed tonight or being held liable for any engine damage he caused. I asked for his name and number, at which point he ran back into his truck and drove away. Now not only is my car's battery still dead but I also have a wrench in my engine, potentially damaging it. As I was standing by the side of the road, I read some of the Yelp reviews so I thought I would add another view. I realize that every interaction is real and the disappointment or satisfaction is largely dependent on which location/driver responds. On Saturday afternoon, my vehicle suddenly and inexplicably decided not to run anymore. I called the dealer and they suggested some fixes. None worked. So -with their help - I called the roadside assistance. Roadside assistance contacted Pro Tech which texted me that it would be an hour to respond. Much to my surprise, about 30 minutes later, the flatbed truck arrived. The service attendant/driver, Mark, was friendly, courteous and worked expeditiously to assess the issue (which was beyond the capacity of mortal men) and loaded the car. I rode with him to the dealer and watched him expertly drop the vehicle into a parking space between two vehicles. He was great. The service was great. It may not always be so but this guy was terrific. read more

Driver refused to tow my car because our driveway hasn't been plowed yet. (We got a little more than 3-inches last night. This was not a blizzard. Also: He was in a tow truck, not a Smart Car.) I'm a AAA member, and the last two times I have called for roadside assistance while in Waltham, they have sent over someone from ProTech. The first time I dealt with ProTech was about a year ago. The tow driver was so mean and so rude, he actually made me cry--and it takes a LOT to make me cry. I was already really upset about getting the front wheels of my car stuck in a ditch, and his horrible attitude just piled on to my stress. He would not listen to a single word I said, and then began accusing me of lying about the price AAA had given me for the tow (I was over my limit that year, and AAA told the how much the tow would cost). I think he realized how much of a d*** he was being when I actually started crying, and he just did his job and left without saying another word. The second time was last weekend. It was really dark, and I hit a pothole. One of my tires was totally flat. I called AAA to have someone come install the spare, and about an hour later comes Pro Tech. The Pro Tech employee this time around was super nice. He was joking around, and we chatted for a bit. I went today to have my spare replaced, and the mechanic tells me that whoever installed the spare broke a lug nut stud, and damaged another. They did not have the studs and lug nuts in stock, so they could not replace them for me. So now I'm driving around with a tire in my trunk and need to go to another mechanic tomorrow to have the lug nuts and studs replaced and new tire installed. People make mistakes, but I cannot stand it when they do not own up to to them. If the employee had just told me that night "hey, i'm really sorry but I broke one of the studs," I would have been fine. Instead I am now beyond pissed that I have to take yet more time away from my work to bring my car to another mechanic tomorrow. If you have a choice, DO NOT call Pro Tech for help. read more

Had a pretty terrible experience with this towing company. Some of the worst customer service I have ever received. Called for a tow to a shop because my shifter cable snapped and I couldn't shift my car. When the tow truck driver arrived, I had mentioned that it was possible to manually shift it from under the hood so that he could put it into neutral, which he completely ignored. He dragged my car onto the truck in park and drove me to the shop. When we arrived at the shop, they instructed him to place my car in a parking area on the street. Instead of putting it into the LARGE AND EASILY ACCESSIBLE parking spot, he very quickly unloaded my car so it was sticking out into the street, threw my keys into my car and left before anyone could stop him and ask him to move my car out of the street. I called Pro Tech to see if they could have him come back out to fix his error, and they told me no, it's not their fault and there was nothing they could do. So, my car was sticking out into a very small street and at a high risk of being hit by another car. Since they refused to take any blame for their driver doing an incredibly poor job, I had to call another towing company to move it (and, by the way, this tow truck driver managed to shift my car into neutral. This is probaby my WORST experience with towing. RUDE customer service. He HUNG UP on me without any reason while I was talking. Also, they told me they would arrive within 90 minutes. Took them 2 HRS instead to arrive and with attitude, too... It is depressing enough to have your car stop in the middle of the road with people honking at you. It is NOT OK to NOT come within the promised time frame. It is unprofessional, rude, and just inaccurate. My Porsche Cayenne got towed. I was heading to work and stopped by to check the car.It had deep scretches on it!!!!! I called the office to ask about those schratches,a guy names Joshua or what told me they have pictures. When I asked him to send them to me he started yelling that I should call the police station instead and hang up the phone! Well... Honey that's a $17.000 car you either have a good reason,a sorry or whatever.... Please don't use this compny!!!!!!!! There are plenty more!!!!!! read more

Had an awful experience with this company. In early Monday morning (Oct 07), I was commuting to work in Cambrige, MA. It was about 6:15 am and dark outside. Something sharp pierced my back right side tire. I pulled over and stranded on high way, route 2. It was still dark outside and I couldn't see clearly the exit number outside. I called AAA and requested emergency road assistant service. This company had collaboration with AAA, so they dispatched through this company. About 1 hour later, the driver from this towing company called in at exit 53 and asked where I was. I told him I found I was actually at exit 55 only 2 exits further east. I asked him keep going and I am only about ~ 2 miles away. He said he is just a driver and his job is done, mission completed. I pleaded and told him I was stranded on HIGHWAY, it was DANGEROUS there. But this guy was SO heartless. He refused to continue for another 2- 3 minutes and asked me to request another service. Again he told me he is just a driver. Helpless and treated inhumanely I had to start over the phone request process again. Waited for nearly 1 more hour. Another driver from AAA came to me finally. It was an awful experience which I won't forget in my life. read more
