I'm from out of state and received a notification that my truck's remaining oil life was at 2% upon arriving at my hotel in Waltham. So I searched for a quick oil change place that was close by. This location came up. After reading reviews, I decided it was worth a shot. I could not have been happier!! It was only 7 mins from my hotel. When I pulled up, they directed me to one of the 3 open bays. When I stopped, the Asst Manager on duty (Jakob) was super nice. He told me I could stay in the vehicle for the entire time of the oil change (which was only 10 minutes!!). He politely asked if he could reach in the open window to reset the oil gauge and made small talk with me for the duration of the change. He explained what his team was doing as they ran through the various aspects of the inspection (tire pressure, headlights, brake lights, wipers, etc.). His team of Reynald, Oscar, Tommy and Michael were efficient, polite and professional. I was super impressed with this location's service and would recommend to anyone who needs an oil change. I had my oil change here for a number of years. I always used a coupon to shave off some of the cost. They consistently upsell and I usually say no. I was offered to have my windshield wiper fluid topped off. I said yes. Big mistake. When I popped my hood a week later, the wiper funnel leading to the reservoir was loose and broken off. They broke the plug from underneath and put a temp stopper on it. All my oil leaked, I thought it was an issue with my car. No it was on them. I brought my Hummer to this Valvoline (557 Main Street, Waltham, MA) at 3:30 PM on Tuesday, January 28th, 2025 for an oil change. The manager (I assume he was the manager since he seemed so professional) was crisp, friendly, and efficient and the atmosphere and mood in the shop seemed to be fairly upbeat and positive. (A few of the mechanics were good-naturedly laughing and singing...) The manager moved me through the process quickly but clearly, explaining what he was doing to the vehicle and giving me options as he went. He made one suggestion about cleaning some corrosion on the battery, but wasn't pushy about it and moved on when I said no thanks. I was in the shop for about 20 - 25 minutes and haven't had any issues with the oil since. I usually go to my regular mechanic a town over, and was skeptical about coming to a chain garage for a quick change, but am very happy with my service. Based on this experience, I'd recommend this place to others and would return if I needed to. (I just wish I'd gotten the manager's name to give him credit.) read more

I just asked for conventional, guy mentioned I got a mix last time and confirmed conventional was fine. I've been going to valvoline for both my vehicles since moving here and not knowing a mechanic, on my car they fouled up putting the skid plate on in November of last year, 2 weeks later it snows my skid plate catches some and it rips off my car. 500$ later I get a new one on. Go to valvoline again for an oil change and when I get home notice it's hanging. Again. Fast forward to last weekend I take my wife's new car in and get an oil change thinking maybe the cant fuck hers up (it's not as intricate as mine) LO AND BEHOLD THE ENTIRE PASSENGER SIDE JUST DOESNT HAVE ANY BOLTS IN IT ANYMORE. I had my car's oil changed at Valvoline. My car died in the middle of the road a mile away. I took it to my mechanic who determined it was missing an integral piece related to the oil filter. This was replaced and the car has been fine since. This cost me $405. I've contacted the store manager Patrick who says that the car showed up without the piece. I explained that the car will not run correctly without it and also asked if it did not have the piece upon arrival, why was I not notified? I've contacted Valvoline corporate who had Patrick call me back to say that they cannot honor any mistake. They would rather forgo future business with my work trucks and two personal cars than honor a simple mistake. Very sad. read more

I was extremely disappointed in my experience at Valvoline. Although the attendants were extremely kind, they are dishonest and LIED to my face. When I pulled my car in, I paid for a SEMI-SYNTHETIC oil change and paid extra for this grade of oil. When the attendant was filling my oil at the end of the change, I watched them take the CONVENTIONAL oil pump and fill my oil tank. At the end of change, I asked the attendant what oil they used to refill my tank and they told me SEMI-SYNTHETIC with a smile. Not only did they refuse to admit their mistake but they straight up STOLE my money, who knows how many people they've CHEATED. This place is solid - fair value and efficient. Brought in the Prius for the 30K mile maintenance. The Valvoline team changed the engine oil/filter (synthetic), air filter (this was pretty filthy), cabin air filter (this was even filthier), rotated the tires. The Valvoline team also checked all the fluids (topped off windshield wiper fluid). All in, the 30K mile maintenance took 45 minutes and cost me $152. Will be back for an oil change in 5K miles. Incidentally, I was quoted by the Lexington Toyota dealership that the 30K mile maintenance would cost me $230 and would take about 2.5 hours. No thanks. read more

I've been here twice and each time the service has been fast and excellent. The most recent time I went, they found that my serpentine belt was pretty much shredded. I had them swap it out, and these guys are the coolest. While I know NOTHING about cars, but AM interested in them, they showed me everything they were doing and showed me the new belt versus the old, so even **I** could see that it needed to be changed. This is probably the first place I've been that didn't try to overcharge me or get me to do things I didn't need because ya know, I have boobs. They also have a shop next door where they can do other services and the manager - who is a fully licensed mechanic - gave me a complete tune up. I've gone here 3 times now and I really like the quick service. It's important to me with 2 small children to be able to get an oil change done during my lunch break at work, very convenient. The folks are all very nice and friendly. A basic oil change might run you approx. $45.00 (my bill anyway for a 2004 impala V6 4.5 liters), not the cheapest but I'd gladly pay the extra for the convince. I'm also glad to have the air filters checked and I've had them replaced on occasion at Valvoline. At times I've been asked if I wanted them replaced, and they appeared perfectly fine (in my mind anyway, I guess everyone has a diff standard) but if you use common sense and speak up, the place is great. read more

Went there just over a month ago for a routine oil change and it might have possibly been the best experience I've had at a Valvoline and also the quickest. The staff was very friendly, efficient and very well organized. Courteous as well. No complaints. They were thorough and did their job well although I could have done without them trying to upsell me on stuff but I can't blame them for trying... It took under 9 minutes and I also saved a bunch of money by using Google to find a coupon, something that's available year-round for places such as this one. I don't really know what else to say about the oil change. They topped off my fluids? That's pretty standard from most places... I guess one thing about this place is that it's centrally and very conveniently located near the center of Waltham - right off the common. Was my service fast? - yes; and I didn't even need to get out of my car! No appointment needed and right on Main Street. Did I achieve my goal of oil change? - yes... BUT! - they also attempted to persuade me to change out my windshield whippers, air filter, radiator fluid, and transmission fluid! The first thing I said when I rolled up was "I just need an oil change, ONLY an oil change, please." The price tag was too high and I really don't appreciate getting the "used car salesman" act when I clearly stated that ALL I WANTED WAS AN OIL CHANGE ("please!"). This was a last resort for me and next time I will be going elsewhere (even if I DO have to make an appointment on a weekend to do it). If you're in a rush and don't care about the nearly $40 price-tag of a BASIC oil change, this is the place for you. I hate to fall in to the stereotype but alas, I am a woman who knows very little about cars. Like the other ladies reviewing Valvoline, I have had nothing but great experiences at this location. Not only are the guys (and gal!!!) incredibly friendly but that don't even make me feel bad for being car retarded. It takes less than 15 minutes for an oil change and beyond. And I agree with Lesley, the people that work here seem to be just loving their job. I appreciate that. I went there again today for an oil change and was beyond pleased. They changed my oil, replaced my air filter, replaced a break light, topped off all the fluids and checked everything. It cost me $75, which I am sure some car man would tell me is over priced, but to me it was well worth it. So convenient! read more

Wow! After Jiffy Lube caused my car to catch on fire a couple years ago in Worcester, I've been scared of oil changes ever since. Vowing never to give the 'Lube my business again, I asked my coworkers for a recommendation for a fast (and safe!) oil change and they told me to go here. It was awesome!! Everybody looked like they were having such a great time, joking together, smiling, making small talk with the customers. It was perfect. They changed my oil in minutes, put on some new wiper blades, even told me when my other services were due for a tune up and sent me on my merry way. They seriously made my day better during my lunch hour, and for that alone I'm grateful. They clearly knew what they were doing and made me feel totally at ease. If I'm still working in the area by the next time I need another oil change, I'm going back for sure. Seeing how much fun they were having made me want to quit my job and work there haha. read more

I like to go to Valvoline to get my oil change in the winter because it's freezing and I don't want to get out of my comfy, warm car. I started going to various locations about three years ago, and had no complaints. Yeah, they try to sell you air filters or windshield wipers, but I politely say no and that's the end of that. I recently got my oil change at the Valvoline in Waltham and I'm not sure what was wrong with one of the mechanics that worked there. I was led in, the first mechanic scanned my car, checked my lights, and then asked me what type of oil I wanted. I always use conventional. The mechanic informs me that my manufacturer recommends a synthetic, but it's up to me what I want to do. I told her I'd stick to conventional. She was fine with my decision. As was the other mechanic who was checking under the hood of my car. But another guy with hair that was almost to his shoulder, was not accepting of my decision, and proceeded to give me a lecture. I hate being lectured. He sounds astounded at first that I decided to go with the conventional oil. Then he starts sounding angry with me, like how dare I go against what is recommended. He starts saying how I'm going to "blow-up" my engine. Then he goes to talk about how I would be violating the terms of my lease if I don't go with the manufacture's recommendations. I told him that I own my car, so he went back to half yelling about how I'm going to "blow-up my engine." And he goes on about how Valvoline would not be responsible if anything happened to the car, which he assured me would be destroyed. Meanwhile the other mechanic, who had been checking under the hood of my car, is trying to be extra polite, as a way to counter his crazy co-worker's behavior. He silently assures me my car will not "blow-up" and it'll be fine. Mind you the raving lunatic is still going on about how I'm destroying my car. He is so wrapped up in telling me how stupid I basically am that he's messed up the transaction and keeps having to refill information on the computer. He finally gets the receipt printed and again tells me that Valvoline will not be responsible for whatever happens to the car. I've had my current car for a little over three years--it's my second car (same maker and model, just newer). I get my oil changed regularly and take it to my mechanic at the first sign of a problem. This is the first time since I've ever owned this type of car that some mechanic has behaved this way regarding the oil that I chose to put in MY car. I understand what the manufacturer recommended--despite what the guy might have thought, I am not a idiot. Ultimately, however, it it my decision and he needed to respect that. The other two people I dealt with (one was a woman and the other a man of Latin descent) were wonderful. The girl was funny and the guy was super chill and polite. The skinny, long-ish haired guy needs to take it easy before he gives himself an aneurysm. And telling people that their car is basically a ticking time bomb is not necessarily a good way of pushing them toward spending an extra $20 to $40 for synthetic oil. read more

Its so exciting to get an oil change! Said no one ever. Valvoline makes it pretty painless to get it over with though. Sometimes if you go on lunch break or right after work between 5-6 there is a bit of a line. I went on a Sunday morning recently and was in an out of there within 15 minutes. They do try to up-sell you a bit much but, I've just learned to say no unless it is something I really need to do. I went for a oil change on November 15th just to get a regular oils change for my truck. Please note that I have been going to Valvoline for years and this was the first time ever they did my oil change super fast which I found completely weird but i went with it. Unfortunately the starter in my truck broken down next day so I took my truck to the mechanic. My mechanic changed my oil because he found an old filter ( from Valvoline) and dirty mixed together with what it was suppose to be my new oil. I know my mechanic for years and he didn't even charge for my oil change. When I called Valvoline, they told me they will review the cameras and call me back. They called me back and said everything was perfect and didn't see any problem. They put the old filter in front of the camera that is how they are being trained to do and he can see how the old filter was being replace but when I asked for the serial number on it. He said he didn't see it. ( I had with me the old oil filter) when I asked him why my service was so fast he said I was there for a long time and it wasn't fast. In conclusion, I can see this station did my oil change without replacing filter and empty completely my oil tank. The access to my filter is a bit complicated so it shouldn't take that long but not that fast to replace for a new one. I do believe my mechanic of years and every single evidence goes again this Valvoline station. Didn't have the time of going back to fight it. But I can say I will never go back there and if I ever go to another Valvoline, I will be sure my oil change performances is correctly done. Keep an eye on people when they will do your oil change but they are taking short cuts read more

I went here a few weeks ago and had a horrible experience, although not as bad as some other people have had, since my car had no issues after i left. I am guessing Valvoline is paying Yelp to hide the bad reviews. if you look at the not recommended reviews down the page, you will see many 1 star reviews, and people who shared my bad experience. anyways, when i drove in i was met by a nice girl, and I told her i wanted a conventional oil change. easy enough, they started working. about 5 minutes later, some ratty looking guy with long hair came up to me and said i needed to get the 79.99 oil change. i think his name was Mike, but I'm not sure. I tell him no, i am getting the conventional. He then goes on to try and scare me into getting the 79.99 change by saying the engine is going to explode and it's not their fault. I tell him I'll take my chances. the man could not have been ruder, and i could hear one of the workers trying to tell him something about my car, and him saying "I don't care." anyways, don't be fooled by these good reviews, please make sure you check the non recommened ones as well. obviously, Valvoline upsells on the air filters and everything else they try to offer, but this was a little much. read more

I go here in cases where I really need an oil change, but don't want the hassle of going to my dealer. It gets a bonus star for one basic thing: they are consistently fast and convenient. However, the rest is why I won't come back (I've gone 3 times). First, they are expensive. Realllllly expensive. As in, about twice the price my dealership charges. Second, they don't just try to upsell you, they very very obviously just upsell you based on some checklist they have. I change my own airfilter since it's so easy and cheap to do. They had the gall to show me a brand new airfilter while saying "we strongly recommend you replace this". They do not easily take no for an answer, so you'll have to say no 3 or 4 times. I eventually had to be a bit rude back to get him to stop ("but you really need your steering fluid flushed or you could lose control of your car!" um, I've checked my owners manual and I do not need this for another 20k miles). Actually, even when I declined to give my email address or other personal details they argued. My car has an automatic oil light that goes on based on mileage, not actual need. They had no idea how to reset it. I figured it out on my own and this is a pretty ubiquitous thing it turns out. I think they just felt like being lazy. They do not top off any fluids. Not sure if they promise to, but most places will, and again, at half the cost. Also, small pet peeve, but even after getting the synthetic oil my car requires, they put the mileage of 3k miles as my next scheduled change (again, according to my user manual it's every 7500). read more

I really know nothing about my car and have been hesitant in the past to take my car to be worked on without having someone with me who knows what they are talking about as a second opinion. I don't want to be taken advantage of! The people at Valvoline however are so up front, and extremely helpful! AMAZING service, and they won't do any unnecessary service to your car you don't need. Last time I thought I needed an oil change I stopped in and turns out my oil was fine, they recommended I get another thousand miles out of my current oil instead of just going ahead with the service I asked for.
