My Air Conditioning on my 1997 GMC pickup would not work on a hot Friday afternoon. I called four other repair shop and none of them could help me today, all said next week. Pro Tek said they could help me if I got there within 30 mins. I got there in 15 mins. They analyzed the reason it was not working, pumped in the freon. Found a crack in a hose washer and identified the sensor was malfunctioning, got parts and me out of there within 2 hours. Gave me a great price considering the high cost of freon and their team all pitched in to make my service was top notch. Pro-Tek absolutely saved us! Our air conditioning on our Nissan Pathfinder went out about 30 miles before we arrived at our hotel in Palm Desert - in 120 degree heat, no less! Arrived back in the valley to find one of our cars with a totally dead battery; I jump started it and drove it -- but it wouldn't hold a charge and had to be jumped every time I turned it off (and was exhibiting strange electrical behavior while I drove). Luckily, we found Pro-Tek through this Yelp listing, and gave them a call. Pro-Tek is a small, one-bay shop in an industrial park in Palm Desert, tucked in behind a big window tinting shop. It's run by a savvy young man, Paulino, who is pleasant and a clear communicator. He 'trouble-shot' our issue -- it really was just the battery, but he tested the entire electrical system, and cleaned/tightened a bunch of connections. He charged us for the replacement battery (and gave good advice there, too) and an hour of their time total -- a huge relief. Glad we found Pro-Tek, and we will be using them for all our repair needs in the future. read more

While visiting my mother in Palm Desert the master warning light came on in her 2007 Toyota Prius. In addition, her air conditioning in the car failed to blow cold air. After reading many negative reviews on Yelp of the Toyota Dealer there I elected to look around for a local automotive repair shop. After reviewing shops on Yelp, I called around and Paul the owner of Pro-Tek Automotive answered the phone. I explained the issue and he recommended bringing the car in for a diagnostic check to see what the problem was. I dropped the car off at 9:30 AM and picked it up at about 4:30 PM the same day. Seems the problem was since the car is a hybrid the converter pump alternating between gas and electric went out and needed to be replaced. Fortunately, there were no leaks in the air conditioning system, and was recharged with freon. The bill was fair, repairs were efficient and effective, and Paul is an ASE-certified mechanic with several years of experience, which sold me on his abilities. My car was over heating and I called on a Friday. They said I could bring it in that day. They figured out what was wrong, told me they could have the part in and have it ready for me that day. When I picked it up they showed me the broken part. Haven't had any trouble since. When I picked up my car I left my other car that needed a new water pump and brakes. It took them a little longer because they wanted to make sure everything was done right. Everything came out great and for a fair price. Definitely going back when I need a fix. read more

I seldom write negative views, most new businesses are picked based on Yelp and/or other ratings. On 12/5/21 contacted Pro-Tek Automotive re: loose bumper hitch that I wanted looked at and tightened up. An appointment was set for 12/8 at 3:00. Arrived at 2:45 and was told no one was available to complete repair. Received follow up apology and set second appointment for 12/10 at 1:00. Young man jacked rear of car but could not make necessary adjustments w/o car on hoist. Another vehicle occupied the hoist. No repair today. Left name and phone number and third appointment was scheduled for Saturday, 10 AM. While driving to Saturday's appointment received phone call while in transit saying owner would be there a little late. Arrived at 9:45 and waited until 10:35 before giving up and leaving. Received a call about 10:45 saying owner just arrived at shop. Told him no thanks, three times was enough. While waiting, another customer drove up, stating she also had a 10 AM appointment. In baseball, three strikes and you are out! You form your own opinion. read more
